Yeah I always thought the natural and science ones stood out the most.

It's remnants of a risk/reward system that was tossed into everything.

Quote:Oh. Now I get it - this is a personal defensive reaction on words I've never used.Basically says everyone that does not care for fantasy and dismisses the game is retardedly simple minded.
...
I personally don’t want to go into another fantasy game because I'm sick of the setting and tossing a few trinkets into the game, guns here, traps there, dont change that.
-
No. Why? ...because I don't ignore indie titles.

Quote:THAT game has a great approach to combat. I tried the beta and it kind of opened my eyes to different takes on interaction and fighting. I didn't buy it though.Actually, based on a post by bellastrega i tried TERA, and it is fun, totally different than coh, customization is limited(though not as bad as id expect), and of course still would prefer a martial artist class(went slayer because they have a kick attack) but the art is really good and for a demo, i'm enjoying it.

I completely agree. My comment was for those that saw a tree and slapped a big ol' fantasy tag on it without looking into it, instead of discussing originality.

Quote:I think you forgot the other side of that argument. The point was that I don't consider GW2 a fantasy MMO in the same sense that WoW is, just like I don't consider CoH a sci-fi MMO like EVE is.Just because you add some fantasy-tech into a high fantasy world does not make it sci-fi.
CoH pays attention to many genres, and I am finding the same care when it comes to GW2. -

...sorta unrelated, but any of you remember what Tabula Rasa was originally designed to be like before they trashed the entire game and redesigned it?
-
Quote:Absolutely... which is why I enjoy GW2. Steampunk, technomagic, guns, rifles, traps, turrets, glass pyramids, hover technology, teleportation tunnels, etc...On another note (and not for a minute knocking the OP) aren't people just sick to the back teeth of fantasy genre games?
...some people see a tree with an animal running around and disregard an entire game universe. -
Nope. I haven't had an update in awhile.
-
Maybe he stole it from me - I have admitted to watching every single episode of every Star Trek show except TOS...

Quote:1. I was basing it on a certain scenario and not all scenarios, but I think you know that and are just making sure to point it out.Three things:
1) As pointed out above, NCsoft shutting down CoH permanently and NCsoft reversing their decision is a false dichotomy. A third, very reasonable--and not embarrassing at all--option exists to sell the game to another company, one for which City of Heroes would be in their long term goals. I'm not asking for charity here, real money could be offered for the game.
I've seen a lot of people vehemently insist that that would never happen. With all due respect, unless you're the CEO or on the board of NCsoft, I think it's impossible for you to know that. I have been presenting valid financial, public relations, and marketing reasons why NCsoft would be amenable to letting the game go to someone else. I've been hammering home the point that helping to keep City of Heroes alive is indeed a very smart move for the company with tangible, real benefits.
2) The studio is not yet "permanently gone." Yes, 80+ people are out there pounding the pavement looking for a job. But it's a tough economy, and it's only been a week. I'm certain that some of them will find new jobs fairly quickly; they do, after all, have a proven track record of developing a genre-defining game. But again, don't you think that one week is a little early to be declaring it "permanently gone"? I realize the time constraints we're under, which is why I've been staying up until after 5:00am every morning (6:30am or so this morning because I had some press releases to get out) and getting up at 9:00am.
3) Having said all that, THANK YOU for voting yes in the poll. This just goes to show that although we can disagree about minutiae, at the end of the day, we're all fans of the game. Pulling together and doing that even though you're not hopeful is a much appreciated sign of support. I hope that we'll eventually be able to turn the tide and give you positive reasons to think, "You know, this crazy movement might actually work..." Until then, like I said, thanks for helping us out.
2. True, I only have the history of MMO shutdowns to go by. I also would be shocked if any would come back if given the opportunity, outside of the community team.
3. Any remote chance is something I will always be behind, as I have played many, many MMOs over the years and only stuck with this one. I am mentally preparing myself to move on as a protective precaution. Currently I am playing with Diablo III, Guild Wars 2, and Planetside 2 for the most part - still play Team Fortress 2 and a little Tribes Ascend once in awhile. I also love fighting games a whole lot. -

Lol... the Mot translator made me laugh. Cool stuff.
-
I voted to keep it going, realizing how stupidly impossible that is, now that the studio is permanently gone and NCSoft would never reverse the decision out of embarrassment.
-
I've been messing with GW2 and this but as you can see it's pretty early beta. :P

Yeah I tend to hate doing multi-quotes - such a pain over several pages of replies. I deleted the image to help for now.
