Well, I opened the port, but still get this message from the NCLauncer
SO i guess port 80 isn't my issue? -
Thanks so much for setting this thread up, Morgan. I opened my gui page, and clicked the port forwarding/port triggering button, and this came up:
not sure what to do next, there seem to be no ports listed. -
Quote:Really? I totally don't understand this. Why would only one or certain people in the same city using the same ISP provider be affected like this?I'm in Phoenix and use Cox Internet, never had a problem with the new launcher.
AM I going to have to find a new service provider? Damnit NCsoft. -
Quote:I wouldn't go so far as to say every player in Phoenix (or using CoX Internet) won't be able to play... But it will likely put a damper on some players ability to play.
As the CanYouSeeMe page (below) states, port 80 is a common port for ISPs to block incoming traffic on.
I'm afraid that CanYouSeeMe probably won't see Jawbreaker on port 80 as s/he already listed that CoX blocks incoming port 80 traffic. :-(
EDIT to add: I tried looking for a guide site on how to check router ports (every manufacturer has different ways to go about it), but the one I knew of years ago has turned into a HEAVILY add supported / guerrilla downloader site that I won't link to.
I would suggest trying "open ports <insert name brand/model of your router here>" in your favorite search engine. Or, if you would like to inform me/us of your router we can look into it for you.
Nope, CanYouSeeMe did not in fact, see me. I have a Netgear 300N, though I guess it doesn't matter at this point. -
Quote:I'm in phoenix, using CoX. Does this mean that every player in phoenix, or every player using CoX internet, will no longer be able to play?Huh. Well, I'll be...
I'm not sure that article is a list of requirements as I do not have anything set up as it suggests. I think it is more a list of things to try to resolve issues. Sort of a "well here. Try this and see if it works."
Because all of my ports are stealthed at the router, and nothing from CoX/NCSoft is given specific permission on my PC firewall lists.
But that right there could be the problem if opening port 80 can help all by itself. Of course, good luck trying to get an ISP to change its "security measures" of blocking incoming port 80 packets. -
Quote:How would I check this? I'm not savvy in these thingsFrom How do I resolve issues with the NCsoft Launcher?:
1. If you are connecting through a router, make sure that TCP port 80 is fully opened and unrestricted.
I wonder if this also applies to ISPs. -
Quote:I would continue to work with Alpha Wolf, Avatea, and/or the support team. I assume they had you try downloading the game.xml from this thread?
If you can't get the NCSoft Updater to work you might be able to use Steam instead.
"
according to my ISP, the ports they block are
Port Transport Protocol Direction Reason for Filtering
25 TCP SMTP Both* SMTP Relays
80 TCP HTTP Inbound Web servers, worms
135 UDP NetBios Both Net Send Spam / Pop-ups, Worms
136-139 UDP,TCP NetBios Both Worms, Network Neighborhood
445 TCP MS-DS/ NetBios Both Worms, Network Neighborhood
1433 TCP MS-SQL Inbound Worms, Trojans
1434 UDP MS-SQL Inbound Worms, SQLslammer
1900 UDP MS-DS/NetBios Both Worms, Network Neighborhood
dunno if any of these are Akamai. I just tried re-downloading the installer, but it seems to not wat to instal at all now. I click the link on this page http://www.cityofheroes.com/account/...taller_en.html
and nothing happens. I was going to try the link you posted again, as maybe I didn't do something right the first few times I messed with it, but now i'm just stuck. -
This launcher has never worked for me. I've had extensive help from Alpha Wolf and Avatea, trying to get it to run. I've reinstalled XP, I've bought a new router. Nothing.
I have been playing since launch, with a few weeks here and there of inactive status due to finances. I run two accounts and have purchased every booster pack and expansion twice.
CoH is the only game I play, and I implore you to make this thing optional. If it goes live, i'm donefor. You're about to lose a loyal player who is willing to buy everything offered multiple times. I love this game, this community and this dev team. I'm really filled with dread over this. -

Quote:I will have to say that I will probably wait to see how things are while also acquiring some specific names on the VIP server. I do however hope there will be less of certain elements. It would be nice going a day without having to put one or two people on ignore and having a few moments of conversation with adults who actually behave as adults.
Unfortunately, some VIP's are still quite capable of being "certain elements" -

I've taken two of the least uber stalker sets and combined them. Now I need help with a build. Claws has mediocre damage, and /energy is a mediocre secondary (from all i've heard, anyway.) So what should I do as far as power choices and slotting? Other than re-rolling something else :P
Anyone have a non-purp, non pvp io build? -
I had thought about trying for this on my badger with my sg. We had discussed doing it in increments, doing the missions when possible, logging out, coming back later etc. until the end, and not completing it until everyone was logged in. If that's something that would appeal to you, maybe we can set something up.

Ok, wiseguys. My vid card crapped out and i have an old one substituting until the new one gets here, so i turn down the gfx to keep it running and loading quicker. :P
That being said, I lived through the 80's, and have no desire for an 80's booster.(I've bought all the others)
Awful, awful decade -
Zwillinger showed up on Virtue today to check out a CC. His bio has me thinking....

The Friday time works well for me. ANd hey! That's ME! Monster Mitts!

Wow that looks really swanky, Deacon! Thanks for doing that, I'm gonna mess around with it when I get home tonight

Thanks for the help, Lysar, but I don't know what that stuff means :P

well, I took a scrapper to 18. Rolled all my tickets into recipies, but some of them dropped at 20, not 18. i wonder if i should lock him at a lower level (?)
-
Only problem is I can't figure out how to get it to convert to english. The instructions aren't very clear to my computer-illiterate mind. -
OK, so I'm thinking maybe I should frankenslot the powers i'll have access to ( 20 and below) for max dmg/recharge/acc and the powers that I won't have access to I can slot for global recharge bonuses with as much lvl 18 stuff as I can find.
Or am I missing the way this works? -
[QUOTE=Oedipus_Tex;3651040]Doesn't Posi level lock you at 15? You still get level 20 powers and bonuses, but you are actually level 15 I think.
For an actual level 20 exemped character, it is theoretically possible but very expensive to have very close to perma-Phantom army*. Here's a demo of that. You would need to change out all the IOs (except the purples) to level 25 or less. I don't know whether Luck of the Gambler still works if you slot a lvl 50 and exemp; it is available at lower levels but incredibly expensive. Although one way to get them is to park a character at (actual, not exemped) level 25 and run TFs or hero missions until you can buy it with merits. Since you love Posi so much you may not have an issue with this.
Unfortunately a character at level 15 would not benefit from most of this build. The purples count and (maybe) the LoTGs but most of the rest requires you to be around levels 16-20.
*OK not exactly. I forgot your IOs also degrade to DOs or so. The posted build actually reduces the value too far because everything is slotted to IO level 10, but you would be working with 20s I think. I guess you would have a 10-12 second gap in Armies, sometimes longer depending on the ebb and flow of AM and Hasten.
Cost is not an issue, I have inf, merits, and ae tickets out the wazoo :P.
That looks like a good start, but If I go to 50, i can have all of those powers fully slotted -
Quote:I think optimally, one build that would be great at lvl 20, and 30, and 40 would be what I want. But with multiple build possibilities, I'm not as worried about it, though again, it would be nice. Are you or will you be using one of your builds only for this ... i.e. there could be quite a difference between a level 50 build meant to exemp very well to level 20, but quite playable for a Numina's tf, for example, and one meant only for playing at level 20. Every power selected to level 20, for example, would (should?) have 6 slots dedicated to it if the build will never play above level 20 (21 for Posi part 2?).
