  3. My newest creation, The Quick Red Fox. I'd watch this movie.

She does not play fair. Or care about your family jewels.

  4. If anyone wants my desktop picture, just do an image search on "Bello Nebula." That will pull up a bunch of options.
  5. Good point. Atrocious spelling and grammar, but good point.

I just looked at Super 8's B.O. over the weekend. Worldwide $46 million. I'd be willing to bet that's not even most of the advertising budget. Ouch.

The only kids movies I can really get into are the ones that also have something for adults, as if the filmmakers have thrown in a couple things for the grown-ups who have to watch these things over and over. I like half of what Pixar does for this very reason, and I think the best Disney animated film ever made is The Emperor's New Groove.

But when I go back and try to rewatch stuff I loved in my youth, like Speed Racer or Yamato, I just can't get into that mindset because there's nothing adult there to hang my interest on. Whereas something like the Adam West Batman series, I loved it just as much when I saw it as an adult, because I finally got the jokes.
  8. 24 minutes? It takes less time to read a comic.

  10. I'll tell you the one secret to success at this: perseverance. Keep at it and you'll achieve it.
  11. All kidding aside, here's my real desktop, served up fresh. Ish.

When I had my birthday senior year, my best friend remarked, "You aren't 17 going on 18, you're 17 going on 40." Which was true. I've always felt like I was in my 40s. So by the time I was 20, you can imagine how little tolerance I had for kids' action flicks.
  13. I'm not sure why people are hung up over the X-men continuity. It's not like any movie series has ever paid any attention to that before, or any comics for that matter. It would be cool if artists respected the previous work and built upon it -- that's one of the reasons James Cameron's Aliens is as awesome as it is: he took the events of the original movie and added to it. But then he did an about-face and violated his own universe for Terminator 2. So, yeah, expecting continuity is a fruitless endeavor. You just have to take these as individual stories in and of themselves.

That's one of the reasons why the Marvel Cycle is so cool: no one's ever done an interconnected series of films that take into account each other's stories and characters.

I've been seeing the same thing. People are outraged. I tell them two things: 1) don't read the books and 2) don't get attached to anyone over four-and-a-half feet tall. Who isn't a Lannister.

Wrath of Khan is very good but I believe those two are the superior films.
For certain personal and professional reasons, I'm glad you like Undiscovered. The first draft of the script was better, though. None of that stupid Shakespeare junk Bennet added.

A friend of mine pointed out that Picard never left the glowy barber pole in the first TNG flick. Once you accept that, every other incongruous moment in the rest of the movies makes sense, and all the inconsistency goes away (such as the bizarre addition of a Borg Queen) because all of the TNG films are occurring in Picard's imagination inside that Aurora Galactialis. (What the hell was that thing called? Besides "plot device".)

Exactly. Original Star Wars, the first (and only good) version of CE3K, ST: WoK is the only good one.

I realize The Goonies is a touchstone for a certain generation, but I was too old for it. I tried twice but couldn't watch it. I'm not the target audience.

Gah, Star Trek was so bad, it's hard to even know where to start with that thing. I watched it just because my cousin and Trekkie friends were insisting that it was actually good. My opinion of *their* opinion has subsequently dropped precipitously. Inconsistent characterization, bad writing, over-the-top and dumb "humor" plus lens flares, lens flares, lens flares. Everything that's bad about a JJ Abrams production. Plus a plot and main antagonist stolen from Star Trek Nemesis.

I have enormous fond memories of the films of my youth, especially those of the late 70s and early 80s, and Lucas and Spielberg have done more than enough to destroy those memories without having to endure Abrams' hamfistedly manhandling them into gooey stupid paste.

I really hate that guy's work, apparently.
  19. You thought I was kidding about eating fries. Well ha!

  20. I missed this.

    Happy belated virtual birthday!
  21. I was going to say. I've remembered them saying quite a variety of things since the get-go.

Still, I agree about the coolness factor of it.
  22. Yay! I'll use Monster Child, since his boosty goodness power is all rainbow-tastic.
  23. A couple years ago I actually did a picture of my namesake character's evolution, who I kept rerolling trying to find the right fit for him. Added a picture I just took. (As in five minutes ago!)

Do you mean she looked like that except we should imagine her without the cape and aura? Or did you accidentally add the wrong picture?
