Isn't one of them 8-10 hours long or something? I did the "short" SS TF back in the day (I forget which) and it seemed to last forever. The final boss fight alone lasted longer than any of the TFs we've been on to date.
I have so many characters that I'm fine with parking one for a week, doing part 1 on one Friday and part 2 the following Friday. And if we're talking about level 50 characters, I hardly ever play those anyway, so they're double-parked. Heh. -
It started - for me, it started - last Thursday, in response to an urgent post from my RSS, I hurried home from a superhero convention I'd been attending. At first glance, everything looked the same. It wasn't. Something evil had taken possession of the thread...

See, that's why City of Heroes 15 was so amazing. Jenkins *seemed* like he could never plot anything, yet once you started turning over clues, there his plans were, under everything.

Quote:What's the method of linking your aforementioned lore pages together under their own category? Lore or History or something similar? As it stands, they are sort of scattered randomly around with no obvious connections.Wow, conversation about Paragon Wiki... Must... Weigh... In...
I think that Aggelakis is right. We already host two wikis, and it sounds like there would be a pretty big intersection between the information in this wiki and the information in the Paragon Wiki. For what it's worth, I try to add in lore as I can. There's certainly no rule against adding lore. In fact, the dirty little secret is that keeping track of game lore was one of the primary motivations I had for creating the wiki to begin with. To be honest, it's gotten a lot more nitty-gritty detail as time has gone on than anything I had planned at the outset.
But you can still see some of this legacy in articles such as the Freedom Corps article, Midnight Squad, Maiden Justice, etc. Of course, there's more than only lore in these articles, because the wiki was designed to be useful as well as a good read. But there are pretty heavy lore sections on most major characters (e.g. background sections on Luminary, Baron Zoria, etc.)
My gut suggestion is that you think the Paragon Wiki is a bit light on lore, by gummy, beef it up. I only ask that you provide citations for where you get the information. If you decide to go with a separate wiki just for lore, I'd highly suggest doing this anyway. The sad fact is that if you don't, there's a pretty good likelihood that some people will just make stuff up and put in it.
If you do decide to go it on your own, you'll need a hosting provider. To start off, I'd suggest something like Namecheap or Dreamhost. The Paragon Wiki uses the same software that runs the Wikipedia, which is the open source MediaWiki software. If you want to test drive it and see if you're willing and able to host the wiki, you can configure it to run on your workstation, but you'll also need copies of Apache, MySQL, and PHP (all open source, and all cross-platform), or you might want to look into something like XAMPP, which contains everything you need in one neat self-contained installable package.
For instance, the Longbow entry states it was created as "Ms. Liberty's solution to her disagreement with Statesman's policies regarding Freedom Corps." However, clicking the several links on the Longbow page don't reveal just what that disagreement was. That sort of omission is the type that I find really annoying, and I think it's at the heart of Durakken's issues wit hthe current set-up. -
Bless these highly informative digestible posts in this amazing thread and the posters who typed them. Amen. -
True, as any Mender can tell you, it was the odd numbered CoHs which were best, with the pinnacle widely recognized as being CoH 15.

Quote:The thing I dislike about similar Wikis (like the Star Wars Wookieepedia, Marvel Comics Wiki or Halo Wiki) is that there's no over-arching design that's obvious on the main page. This stream lining allows for quick and concise information gather and input. In stead of looking for a paragraph that says "The rikti are from x" You look in races and that has a thing that has "Origin: Rikti Earth" and that links you to the Rikti earth universe page. You clearly know what one page is talking about and what the other is and even though they are separate page they work as a unit. rather than a garbled mess which is what we sorta have right now for anything other than game stuff in paragonwiki.
In a case like this using the timeline as the over-arching organizing principle might be best, because history seems to be the most logical way to handle the unfolding of the lore. Of course, then you need to decide whether to start with at the beginning of Paragon City or the opening of Pandora's Box or just straight-forward linear time, with the origin being back at the dawn of time.
So far, the closest example of how I'd organize it is the White Wolf wiki, which has a timeline of its universe as one of the things you can look at. -

Quote:Was it legally sanctioned? I didn't know that. Of course, BaB could have lied about his age. Size is often equated with age, and someone as big as he is would have a fairly easy time passing as older. I know I always did. Plus, there are lots of real-world examples of people lying about their ages to do things. Laurence Fishburne (best known as Morpheus in The Matrix and is now on CSI) lied about his age to get cast in Apocalypse Now -- he was 14 at the time. Audie Murphy, the WW II hero soldier, lied about his age to get into the Army.Uh... height/weight/size does not have anything to do with the legalities of letting a TWELVE YEAR OLD found a city-sanctioned supergroup that has almost as much power/autonomy as the Freedom Phalanx, and arguably as much power/autonomy as the military.
I'm just saying that this one is somewhat easier to explain away than other inconsistencies in the canon. -
Just typical Keystone Kops marketing. Although pointing and laughing about this is like shooting fish in barrel, sometimes it's just fun to do. Unfortunately, marketing isn't the best profession for on-the-job training, since missteps are too public, but most of these goofs would be ameliorated with some decent in-house communication. Meetings are a drag, to be sure, but they tend to keep things like this from happening.

Quote:I have missed you so much. My life is complete again. Thank you, thank you... just for being you, and for being here.Hi folks, this might actually be a bit redundent since I would imagine most of the old posse aren't around anymore but if you are then I'll see you again in Paragon City. I saw the devs finally got around to adding some new powersets and that i19 will finally give something for level 50s to do so I'll be brushing off SFX since retiring him over 2 years ago and heading into the frey once more.
Anyway, cya on the streets and around the forum. -
Smart, funny movie that peels back layers of the story and characters like an onion, The Informant! How Matt Damon didn't get nominated for an Oscar for that role I have no idea. It also has an audacious soundtrack that is clever with witty (non-lyrical) musical commentary.
A gorgeous movie that is also smart and odd is The Fall. I don't know if I already recommended it, but if so I'll do it again. Easily one of the most beautiful films of recent years, it occupies the thematic space between The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen and The Stuntman. -
Trolls and noobs posting together! Mass hysteria!

For me, the only NPCs that really cry out for redesign are Positron and Ghost Falcon. Posi because his look is just too busy and GF because it's clumsy.

You wanna know how I got on these forums? My father...was...a poster, and a fiend. And one night, he goes off craaazier than usual. Mommy logs on to the forums to defend herself. He doesn't like that. Not...one...BIT. So...me watching, he takes the keyboard from her, laughing while he does it. He turns to me...and he says..."WHY SO SERIOUS?" He comes at me with the iPad..."WHY SO SERIOUS?!" Shows me the posts he made... "LET'S PUT A SMILE ON THAT FACE!" ...aaaand... why so serious?

Quote:I always recommend Frailty to anyone, it's just that good. Frailty and Fallen, excellent Halloween double feature.Just throwing this out there before I head to bed.
Frailty: It's told in flashback mostly explaining how the narrator's father one day believes he's visited by an angel telling him that he's been chosen to hunt down demons on earth in human form. Of course the father then tries to get his two sons to help. The narrator's telling the story to explain how his brother is now a serial-killer.
It's a good thriller with some great performances, though it is sort of religious which is a sensitive issue for some. -
You expect me to flame, Minago?
No, Mr. Ravenwolf. I expect you to die. -
Dave, this thread can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.
