Quote:What planet are you from, primordial monkey boy? On this internet MY anecdote trumps your anecdote every day of the week and twice on Sunday.Ergo nothing, because anecdotal evidence is anecdotal.
In the past two months I've seen 2 spontaneous invasions on Pinnacle and both were well attended. I even managed to finish off the accolade on my BD scrapper. Other people on my team expressed frustration or disappointment that they still had more work to do to get their's, since they didn't catch invasions happening that often.
By your logic, does anecdote trump anecdote or do you just want to accept that the zero interest you saw may have had to do with bad timing or at least isn't a general case. -
Quote:Probably 90% of the time, I'd say.Im making another alt, going through the options, nothings really clicking. I have a name picked out already, but obviously dont have a feel for him just yet. I figure I'll fine tune it later, probably after I get a cape. Yes most if not all have capes.
Got me wondering, I rarely get the costume right on the first try, once I enter Atlas Park, its only after maybe 10 or 20 levels that I finally decide to fix their costumes to more my liking. Maybe its to see if they will actually last or end up deleted.
How many people get their characters "look" just right from the get go? -
Both Devil's Cape (4 stars) and Superheroes (I don't recall how many stars) are waiting for me to re-read so I can pop up a couple small reviews on them. Devil's Cape is quite good, very much a prose comic book story.
Also coming soon are Nobody Gets the Girl and another novel called Superheroes. -
"Hedgehogs: why can't they share the hedge?"
300 million Americans had no idea who Paul was until this morning. 290 million still don't. -
Quote:Disagreement. For its time, The Thing From Another World was scary as hell and had a lot of groundbreaking stuff. The people talking over each other in a more naturalistic way was far different from most films of the time which were more mannered. Even the most vibrant pieces from other great films of the era (such as On The Waterfront) feel stilted by comparison. They were also limited by the special effects technology of the day and did the best they could with what they had. For a low-budget exploitation flick, it really is extraordinarily good. Also, awesome last line that's resonated for decades. Two examples: The original version of "The Thing" with James Arness as the giant carrot was pretty lame. The John Carpenter remake was a pretty scary flick and generally well done.
What Carpenter's film did was to brilliantly combine the original short story, Campbell's "Who Goes There?", with the original film, updating the special effects to match the story's. The Thing is, to my mind, the perfect remake that should be the template for all other remakes to be compared against.
Quote:Most remakes, however, are either bad or, at best, unnecessary. The new version of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is a prime example of "What Were They Thinking???" I would classify the new "The War of the Worlds" as unnecessary. I'm kind of on the fence on the three versions of "King Kong."
Both King Kong remakes were absolutely atrocious. Jackson's film was so self-indulgent that it bordered on his private self-pleasure flick. I mean, the thing is a full HOUR AND A HALF longer than the original and has exactly zero added value. The special effects are stunning, but aside from that it's just a tedious affair.
Remakes should only be done of films which had good ideas but bad execution or, like Christian Nyby's movie (really Howard Hawks, but Nyby gets the credit), weren't technically able to fully express the source material. -
Quote:Part of it is that people have woken up to the fact that Glee has become a pretentious, preachy, over-exposed, no-fun waste of time and that there are only two decent singers on the show who have extraordinarily limited ranges of songs they're good at.Short and sweet. Glee's doing an episode dedicated to covers of Rocky Horror Picture show. A lot of people I know are mad that a company is doing a cover of RHPS. Wil Wheaton has tweeted both Glee for doing a cover, as well as MTV who is doing an unrelated project.
I don't understand this, but I've seen it elsewhere. Why do people get like this? No one's going through and burning old copies of RHPS. No one's calling your version less legitimate.
This bothers me, and it pervades a lot of media. Don't touch this franchise, because I liked the original.
People, this is important: No one planted a kill switch in your product that makes it stop working simply because a different version is out there.
Well, except maybe George Lucas.

Other than that, I don't know. -
This just happened again, except I wasn't disconnected but was in a Hero Alignment mission where I got the "Made A Stand" badge.
Upon exiting, the two other tip missions disappeared, as did the Halloween tip mission. Goofy. -
Quote:This is what I mean by story-driven costume items. Giving players some version of a "Vanguard trainee" outfit that fits thematically with the later, nifty-galifty pieces would be a good idea. Heck, just a couple pieces would probably do it: chest, gloves and boots.Quote:

Your character concept would make more sense as a person in training to become a Vanguard Soldier. Something along the lines of "Susan has had enough of the damn Rikti raids, so with her assault rifle, she's going to defend the integrity of the dimensional boundaries." When her "training" is complete, she'll have a full uniform and she'll have earned the Rail Rifle she so deserves.
However, that back story still works if it's a global unlock that you first get access to at level 35.
I'd support Space Ace's idea of buying global unlocks after you've unlocked the piece by doing it, except that would likely lead to even more farming. I can't even stand to go on Freedom any more with all the AE farming broadcasts. It's worse than Peregrine used to be back in the early days. -
Quote:I've seen numerous invasions over the past couple months. That's way too frequent. Only on Virtue were players even bothering with them, and then only in Talos and Atlas. The ones in Skyway and FF were completely ignored.Uhh the rikti ones are exceedingly rare. They can however be triggered by completing a tf. I'm fine with that and that shouldn't change.
On Infinity and Guardian, there was zero interest. Ergo, too frequent.
Quote:I don't think making GMs more rare will do anything since the rewards for them are stupendously low. After you get the badge what's the incentive to fight them again? -
I picked up this book on a mad dash through the bookstore so I didn't give it the once-over I usually do. I so wish I had, because it's just not good. It's at least honest about its pulp root, as you can see right on the cover. I was in the mood for some good pulp fiction but this failed to deliver on the "good" part of that.
Captain Midnight Chronicles is a collection of new short stories based on the popular classic radio character who later was translated to movies, TV and comic books. I've never seen the earlier incarnations, but surely they must be better than this if the tales of the Secret Squadron had millions of fans and spawned a multimedia franchise. Some of the stories in this book are passable while others are just downright terrible, as bad as the worst fan-fiction you'll find on the internet. The tales range form the outlandish to the downright silly, but the overall impression I've been left with so far is not a pleasant. I'm a little over halfway through the book and I doubt I'll finish it any time soon.
I get annoyed by typos in books, but worse offenders are grammar and punctuation errors. A couple of these getting through the writing, rewriting and editing process are understandable. Captain Midnight Chronicles has the most egregious amount of typos and misspelling I've ever seen in any book, ever. Internet fan-fiction is actually preferable in this regard. One story was almost literally a long string of typos and mistakes with hundreds of those weird little figures one gets when dumping a Word document into any program. That sort of thing is simply inexcusable because it doesn't take someone with any understanding of English, just someone who has eyes.
Another thing that has just been irking me immeasurably is the fact that this character is a pilot yet there has not been a single time where they've spelled "hangar" correctly. I mean, seriously guys, it's not an "airplane hanger." That just looks stupid. It makes me leery of ever wanting to pick up another book from this publisher, Moonstone.
One star. Avoid. -

Quote:That, right there, is the key.The real difference is that these activities are NOT available the rest of the year.
I think Rikti invasions and zombie attacks should be exceedingly rare. Once every 3 months, maybe even once every 4.
Monsters like Lusca, Jack in Irons, the Ghost Ship, Adamastor... all those should be once a month events at best. 6 weeks would be better. That would generate more interest when they do happen. Also, add some new badges and change the way people get the badge. Instead of your team doing the most damage in order to get the badge, just make it so that anyone who attacks the thing gets it. -

This is why I bailed after Issue 1 of Blackest Night. That story was just stupid and badly written. I honestly do not get the love for it at all.

Really looks like an interesting take on the character. I missed the start of it, so I'll catch the rerun tomorrow afternoon.
-
I was disconnected from the game a few minutes ago (which happens a lot lately but is another thread) and when I logged back in, all 4 tip missions I had queued in my Missions had disappeared.

Whip/Demons with a Storm chaser. (Heh.) I have no idea where to find out what they specialize in.

Does Leadership work on pets?
I find myself at a loss in choosing a power at 30 and once i19 comes out with inherent Fitness I'll have 3 extra power choices to make. I'm kind of torn between Leadership and Teleportation. -

Quote:I've already run into some snags. He's Combat Level 10 but you can only get the Raptor Pack and such based on your Security Level. Same thing for making an SG, so I'll have to get someone to create one, invite me, promote me to leader, then quit. Also, David Wincott refused to allow me to advance in his story arc because I was below SL 5.Okay this idea of never levelling frightens me! It just goes to show you may have hit the wall on alt-itis! LOL I would go nuts with that small handful of powers. Best of luck though!
4 inspirations, 4 pieces of salvage and 1 recipe completely change how I look at bad guys. I've decided I'm just going to have to sell everything unless I accidentally happen to get most of the right salvage to craft a temp power. Status effects kill me, literally. This is even harder already than my melee-only Blaster was back in the day. -
Quote:Apparently I wasn't clear in my OP. I meant to add separate versions of basic types of abilities: Swap Ammo Arrow, Swap Ammo Axe, Swap Ammo Broadsword, Swap Ammo Dual Blades, etc. That's why I said made it part of an EPP. Castle made it sound like the way the thing was designed was an entirely new way of looking at powers, which sort of had the implication that it would be relatively easy to add it to new powersets. We already see EPPs specifically tailored to the characters we're playing, so this would be no different. The problem is that Swap Ammo isn't something that can just be added as a power you choose if you happen to want it. It has to be worked into the set from the ground up. The way Swap Ammo works for DP is that each power has 4 different proc effects and those effects have either a 0% chance of happening or a 100% chance of happening.
It would be entirely possible for the devs to add similar powers to other sets if they wanted to (although they would need to make the swap power either inherent or replacing something else) but adding it as a power in a separate pool (like an Epic pool) that you take if you heppen to feel like it isn't practical (it's technically possible but would require major changes to every powerset for that AT).
That said, now that you mention it, it would be cool to be able to add it to anything. Maybe make that part of the Incarnate system. -
