The game always uses the highest value of defense you have. So if the attack is typed Smash/Ranged the game will use the highest of the your 2 values either your Smashing defense or your Ranged defense. So yes Smashing defense will apply vs both Ranged and Melee attacks (and AoE for the matter) if it is your best defense value and the attack is typed Smashing_Attack. For example, my blasters Bone Smasher power is typed Melee_Attack, Smashing_Attack and Energy_Attack. The game will check and see which of those 3 defense values is greatest on her target and apply that defense to see if the blow lands.

I only wished I could fit in Boost Range somehow, but there's no place to fit it in really without sacrificing something that would be more important. -
Hey Doomguide, awesome build!! I tweaked yours just a bit and here's what I came up with below.
I just wished that I could squeeze in Boost Range somehow... I thought about swapping it out with Power Boost, but wow, I didn't realize how awesome Power Boost could be for your Defence, I could see using that right before initiating an attack to hopefully avoid most of the alpha strike.
Question, if you have a certian type of defence, i.e. Smashing/Leathal does that defend against those types of dmg regardless of whether it's coming in from range or from melee?

Hey Thanks for the ideas Deadboy!
I took your build and tweaked it a bit giving it more +Recharge (61.25%), swapping out Fly for Concealment since I don't fly well in the game, plus with Concealment you can load up on Luck of the Gamblers +global recharge.
But can anyone confirm that Mid's is right when it adds the +Rech buff to your player when you slot it in Grant Invis?

After evaluating this build I think I wanna go with more Ranged Def but I don't think I'll have any choice but to sacrifice some of my +Recharge.
Also it looks like Mace Mastery > Scorpion Armor is a better choice for defence, but how to I get it as a hero? Do I have to go villian? If so, how do I do that and how then do I come back to blueside after I have the armor I want?

I've got a Fire/Energy/Mu Blaster that plays predominately at range (hover blaster) but can still mix it up in melee when I need to. He is softcapped to Ranged DEF and when I need to be in melee range in get in and get out.
My Electric/Electric/Mace Blaster plays predominately in melee range and as a result I built him keeping S/L Defense in mind (he abuses the Short Circuit/Power Sink combo).
It is possible to build a blaster with a high amount of s/l and ranged defense but it is typically easier to go for one or the other.
I revised my build a bit to give it 10% more global recharge and 18% more global acc. I don't see myself needing energy punch, so I switched it out for Super Speed.
With this build I was trying to maximize +Recharge and I ended up with PermaHasten with Hasten taking 116.9seconds to recharge giving ~3seconds of overlap since duration is 120seconds.
I'm thinking the DPS should be pretty great overall with Fireball coming back up ever 4.8seconds and Fire Blast recharging faster than it takes to cast it.
As far as Survival goes, I've got:
S/L Def 20.1%
Ranged Def 22.6%
S/L Res 47.6%
Should this be enough??
What is the Soft Cap for Def? for a blaster?
I figure with as much +Rech as I have, I'll have Force of Nature available to me ~45% of the time. Plus if things got really hairy I could pop PFF. So I think I should be good to go most of the time with survivability.
I guess I'd probably want more Def if I was going to try to be using this toon to farm, but that's not really my goal, I've got 3 other good farm toons. With this guy the idea is to be a good all around blaster which part-times as a scrap when he feels like it.
Also, I've got 12pts of KB protection... is that enough to not have to worry about KB in PVE? I didn't want to have to take Acrobatics if I could avoid it.
Any help is appreciated. Please let me know if you see any place that I could improve on it.

Hello all,
After a long break from the game, I'm back and I'm dusting off my favorite blaster, my Fire/Nrg.
Looking to respec him into a build that is similiar to what I used to have for him before I messed him up trying to make him into a PvP toon.
I've scrapped the idea of PvP for the most part and just want to have this character as an overall PvE fun toon to play.
I was trying to get alot of recharge as well as defense and resistance.
Also I wasn't sure which incarnates I should go after since I'm not too familiar with them. Some help there would be appreciated as well.
Can anyone help me out with any guidance/improvements to what I have here?

Does anyone have a good PB PvP build for Peacebringers?
I'm looking for Human Form only, zone PvP, no budget.
Any info on power selections, IOs, Incarnates, etc would be appreciated.
Also how you enjoy the experience of PvP with your PB.

I was wanting to go just human form. I've got a couple Billion I could spend on it *IF I thought it was worthwhile.
My idea was inspired by another couple forum posts that I've read on this and I've already got an old PB sitting at about lvl 30ish. So I was considering picking up where that left off with him.

Light Form, Dull Pain, Reconstruction, 3 fast range attacks to chain, 2 great melee attacks, and some other stuff.
Easily the most versatile toon I've ever played,

The whole build revolves around damage output and dps and survival. RV pvp. Almost gank proof. Fly is so underrated these days its stupid.
Luminous Blast: Glinting Eye, Glinting Blast, Proton Scatter, Luminous Detonation, Radiant Strike, Incandescent Strike, Inner Light, Dawn Strike, Photon Seekers, Gleaming Bolt
Luminous Aura: Incandescence, Essence Boost, Shining Shield, Reform Essence, Light Form
Speed: Hasten, Super Speed
Leaping: Combat Jumping, Super Jump
Concealment: Grant Invis, Invisibility, Phase Shift (Yes I have not respeced this toon in awhile so I still run that instead of the other luminou aura phase fly power)

So what are the best Incarnates for /regen toons? Should you focus on adding in greater resistance or more regen?

Hello all,
I've heard that PeaceBringers can do well in PVP and that they can be very versitile, with some AOEs allowing for useful PVE as well. First of all is that the case? I'm not looking necessarily for something that's going to dominate in toe-to-toe melee like a scrap or brute, nor am I looking for a ganker, but rather something that will be versitile all around and a fun toon to play.
Can anyone help me out with a good build from Mid's?
Also which Incarnates would be recommended? -
for what reason do you think Fire/Kins are hated?
I've got a lvl 21 right now, and I haven't noticed any haters, should I do a different toon?
