If you didn't like it, you could certainly quit the game. But a more logical option would be to simply not partake, and instead play other new "you can do it with just SOs" content that would most assuredly continue to be added.
[/ QUOTE ]
You either misunderstood or misread something. I said, if they start implementing content that was required to play to advance further then others like myself would find it is no longer a game they wish to play.
[/ QUOTE ]
My understanding of Posi's comments was that they do intend to implement content that will allow level 50 characters to advance beyond what's possible now. We don't know the mechanism, although we can say for certain it isn't a change of level cap, and it's certainly not just new IO sets because they wouldn't characterize them that way. As I've said previously, I'm guessing it's going to be universal enhancement slots. I don't know if that qualifies under your definition as being "content that was required to play to advance further". The content would be entirely optional but it'd certainly be required IF you wanted to undertake the as-yet-undefined progression to uber-50.
[/ QUOTE ]
It depends on how its implemented. If you have to do a specific taskforce to unlock some specific slots, and then implement content that then cannot be done without these extra slots being obtained then yes that is what I'm referring to. -
I must have read more into it, to me it read as though they removed it and gave the damage boost as part of the base. I stand corrected.

Yeah. . .in CoX if you have the best now, more than likely it will be nerfed by the end of the year, and that toon you scauffed at the other day? Yeah, he is the new god. . .whose laughing now?
[/ QUOTE ]
That is true of any MMO... However I don't understand why they are removing Dominate from Dominators. Isn't that the core of the AT? -

It's not the same, that is true. Be it gooder or worser. I pick teh latter. lol. (i know my grammer is screwed, it was porpusely done) go ahead and point it out,
[/ QUOTE ]
Your grammer is screwed even intentionally, it's still screwed... I pointed it out, where's my cookie? -

My apologies...not "all" of the players do this.
It was an over exagerration to get a point across.

I didn't take offense, I just wanted to make sure that at least one person is known to still be legit who started after the AE farm bonanza hit.
I think I'm the only person that is opposed to the AE system in this game. Anytime a game introduces player content there is cheating and ways to get around the gameplay. I've been guilty of it in other games.
I remember in Neverwinter Nights: I created a dungeon with a dragon in it. I took off the dragons armor and made him paralyzed so he couldn't attack. I would take my toons in and just kill him repeatedly. In about 30 mins I could have a max lvl char because as long as you didn't train up you continued receiving the required experience to level of a level one across 20 levels.
I quickly sold the game and never looked back. Player content has its rewards but more often than not, it is just a conduit for exploitation of game mechanics which has proven to be the case in ae. -
Free costume pieces are never worth publishing...

To be honest I see the OPs point.
I remember I could take my level 50 to PI and easily get on a team.
Now I go to PI and it's almost completely empty.
Now all the level 1 thru 49s just stand in the AE in Atlas to join farm teams.
I'll admit I took my Scrapper from level 30 to level 43 in a couple days of AE missions, but when I finally went out to get on a team for actual gameplay missions there was no one to team with.
So much so that I was forced to either solo or go back to Atlas to join another AE missions team...which mostly consist of farms.
[/ QUOTE ]
No they don't. I have only entered the AE building for the Explore badge marker and to get that infernal contact off my list. -

Yay time to see my guys badges go to 220 to 160 or soand there getting rid of my favorite badge
All the rest look good though
[/ QUOTE ]
Good thing I already got my screen caps so that I can prove I had more badges yesterday than I guess I'll have today. Oh well...
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm the proud owner of 0 AE badges and if I have my way none of my toons will ever have one. A lvl 5 asked my lvl 46 if i wanted to run AE with them the other day. When I said I don't do AE they asked me if i wanted to start.
I really don't ever want to step foot into that system. If they make it to play in for alternative content then I'm fine with it. Making it level based content is where all the problems began. -

The way the game seems to work is, if you have a life outside of the game you are going to lag behind the hardcore players and be useless in the next raid because you don't have the Thingie of Awesome that everyone else has. I just have no interest in a game that requires you to spend that much time on it to do well.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is called the timesink formula. All the prevalent EQ Clone mmos rely on it as the model for gameplay. As I said, I can't stand this style of gameplay for the exact reason you stated. If COH starts publishing content oriented in that manner as the person I replied to seems to want, then I doubt I'll be the only one who decides this is no longer the game they want to play. -
Well, just cancel your WoW account anyway, you've got a COH account...

The front page says Issue 15 is going to live servers...
http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/new..._releases.html
[/ QUOTE ]
The date on that link says June 26.
Makes me wonder if they really originally planned to fire this off on a Friday.
Didn't that really blow up in their faces like back during Issue 1?
[/ QUOTE ]
I noticed the date as well. I just figured they probably released it close of friday to give the weekend buzz a chance to catch on then push it on monday. -

In wow, when you reach the lvl cap, you have to start with 5man groups, then 5man heroics, then a 10man raid, then a 25man heroic raid, then they release a new 10/25 man raid that you have to be geared from the prevois 10/25man raid in order to be worth anything in it.
CoH seems to lack that from what you guys are telling me. Imo that makes for a huge gap in stuff to do at end game, considering 70% of my time on wow now is working on the new raids, gearing myself out to beat the last boss in the raid (raids average from 4 to 14 or so bosses), then working on getting the best items from that raid before the next one is released (typically 2-5 months later)
[/ QUOTE ]
I haven't read the entire thread, but wanted to comment on this. You note correctly that the concept of having steppingstone raids is core to WoW and missing from CoH. While most of the people on the forums will likely say they prefer it that way, there's no doubt that this very feature keeps tons of people engaged in WoW.
In a recent (and mostly uninformative) interview with the site Boomtown.net, Posi said that Going Rogue will include "difficult tasks for level 50 characters to do that make them more powerful". There's no indication of what "more powerful" means, especially when the devs have clearly said raising the level cap absolutely won't happen. My guess is that it'll be the Universal Enhancement Slots from the August marketing survey, but who knows. My point is that this will be the closest we have to WoW-style end game raids where you need to already be kitted out pretty well to succeed, and presumably they'll have harder content for you to tackle that makes the "more powerful" part desirable.
The current PvE power progression model can definitely use some tweaking, because they've made a point to make all content in such a way that an SO'd character can still tackle it. So going for big set bonuses or getting purple IOs is just a matter of personal satisfaction, not a prerequisite to conquer any content. I hope that some content is added that only the "more powerful" characters who've gotten the goodies offered by Going Rogue can tackle. That would give us something to strive for at 50, yet the rest of the game (and the MA) would still cater to the casual gamers who don't care about getting kitted out.
[/ QUOTE ]
The raid/pvp centric concept in everquest clone mmos such as WoW is the sole reason I don't play them. I don't like raid content, I don't like the 'me so ubah meesa betta dan yoosa bein' mentality that raid content brings. I like the content formula the way it is and if they start implementing the required raids to get x drops versioning then it will spell quitting time for a lot of people I'm sure. -

Its up on my end. i have already dl'd patch and in create screen. even created a new ulterior look. just can't enter.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then its not up, only the login server is up and can't connect to the world server, hence unknown on the server status page -
[ QUOTE ]
yes it is. its weird though. it let me create a new toons but not enter. says the servers have to be checke??? why show them up, if they can't be entered before mods "check" them?
[/ QUOTE ]
They don't show as 'up' on my end. The server status still has everything listed as unknown. Typically this means there is data being sent to the server page but the login servers aren't connected to the world servers at the time. -

Pretty sure the only reason there's less douchebags on D2 is that by now they've all moved on to something else.

Mostly WoW.Though, there are still plenty of jerks.

There aren't less in D2. The population in all battle.net games is pretty much the caliber of what you see in WoW. -

Question: How many licks does it truely take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop?
[/ QUOTE ]
too darn many.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wonder how many players actually know what this is in reference to...
Likewise, anytime I'm in a conversation and I mention Lorena Bobbitt or the term 'bobbitize' the majority of ppl just ask, 'who's that' or 'what's that mean'. I guess the majority of gamers these days are too young to remember these things. -

You know, it's funny, I think back to when I had first started playing. I was only playing CoV, and it was before having one game, meant having both. The second character I created(Long since deleted now) was almost a Wolverine, one I would think a bit on before petitioning if it was someone elses character. Nothing in appearance, and his name was nothing like Wolverine, but in powers. He was a stalker, with claws and regeneration.
At the time I hadn't even realized, and like most, I never(And still haven't) read through the EULA. I know the basics, and that's fine for me.As I was saying though, I hadn't even recognized the simularities, because in my mind he had a simular background, just that he leaned more to the dark side. But I'd never set up his bio in game, so I probably could still play him today if I wanted to.
Anyway... yes, I petition the violations I see, and no I don't warn the person first. I did that once, and got a ather long and curse filled rant, like some others have said they've gotten. Don't want to go through it again, esspecially when I just gave them a warning saying "Hey man, just in case you didn't know..."
Why do I "Police" like this? One main reason.. you're not supposed to make characters like that! Another reason is that it is a little insulting. This is mostly for the vets, not for the newbies who don't know better. But if someone makes a clone of.. lets say Deadpool, knowing it's a violation, to me, that's like them saying "See, I can get away with it and you can't".
As for the argument earlier in this thread about how Marvel has people who can look for copywrite infringment, but CoH/V's GM aren't in large enough numbers... well think about this.
In this thread alone, there were a few people who didn't even, or just barley recognised who The Vision is. For some people it was blatant and obvious. With the over 100,000 subscribers to this game, there is a wealth of knowledge, from the obvious, to the obscure. If a GM does see a violation, they might not recognize it as one. A GM might not know who Deadpool is, but if they get a petition in their email saying "There's a guy here who made his toon exactly like Deadpool from Marvel comics." That GM will look up Deadpool, and then view the toon in question.
I notice violations like this every once in a while. The Flash, Wolverine, Green Lantern, Captain America, and even Goku from Dragonball Z. And I report them.
You see them, and you don't report them? That's fine. No one is forcing you to, and if anyone says you're just as bad as the violator, needs to get a life. But don't call me a narc, or a tattletale, or even a jerk because I do report these violations, and I won't call you an apricot. Cause you're not an apricot.*
*Disclaimer: My most sincear applogies to any apricots out there that were offended by my previous statement. I like apricots very much, and just picked a word out of the air to prove a point. In hindsight, I probably should have said handkerchief. Screw those darn snooty little handkerchiefs, and the breast pockets they sit in!
[/ QUOTE ]
I reported my first violator the other day. Not for infringement but for utter vulgarity. The player didn't even bother masking the name, they included blatant vulgarity in the name, and the bio was nothing short of stating what they enjoy doing to noobs as if they were in a prison cell.
I mentioned to them they might want to think about changing the name before they get genericed. No badges, or anything. I suspect a trial account. I didn't get a reply to the whisper and they didn't come back to mercy to say anything. Hopefully they got genericed after the gm response but theres no way to know for sure.
I didn't warn them I would be doing it but I was proud to do so when someone has no purpose in a toon but to be vulgar for shock value. -
Maybe they just vanish, I dunno but nothing ran by me at least today. The biff one who knows.
-
The original Mission I was asking about was in a tsoo tunnel. The arachnoid one that failed a few days ago was in an arachnoid spider cave.
-
[ QUOTE ]
did you petition it in game to have a gm clear the fail and complete it for you? i had to do that 2 times on an escape mission before.
[/ QUOTE ]
No. I figured I would get an answer to why its happening here hence the posting. I didn't think it was a bug and I'm still not sure what to think.
A few days ago on an Arachnoid map, fighting Dobbs or Dibbs or Biff or whatever his name was, I got defeated. I couldn't knock his HP down faster than he could regen. I visited the fateweaver to reduce the challenge, and reset the mission. 2 mins into the retry I get failed mission. -
[ QUOTE ]
then the question is, how long were you up and away from your computer? just because you didn't see anyone running by doesn't mean they didn't.
[/ QUOTE ]
If they had ran by me while I was away the mission would have ended before I got back -
[ QUOTE ]
Of course it is. Also, Eislor mentioned this buggy behavior in one of the first few posts in the thread, but apparently the OP ignored or missed it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't ignore or miss anything. It makes sense the way ZI explained it, it didn't make sense to me in the previous post. However I still don't think it happened because nothing ran by me. I was at the entrance to the zone and knew what was around me. -
[ QUOTE ]
lol, i thought you had been on hero side. you wont loseanything really because whatever you miss you can go back through ouro to get. a good way to not out lv contacts is to run on the first difficulty lv also. and solo. not with a team. and you don't have to shelf the toon at 50. if you have unlocked contacts from 45-50 you haven't finished before hitting 50 you can still do their missions.
[/ QUOTE ]
But the first Difficulty is so unchallenging except when up against multiple EB or an AV. Otherwise I solo Challenge 3. -
I haven't played the Hero Side yet, so lets not go there and get more confusion in the mix lol. I've heard they are completely diff worlds.
This is my first toon and I spent a lot of effort unlocking the Grandville contacts so I'd have my path set I just don't want to lose any now.
