  1. So does every blaster thread have to turn into Knockback hate?

I LOVE Knockback and truely believe if you can't bother to learn how to adapt you are a lazy player. I tell every player to use their powers how they like. You know I recall it being rather cool watching the Hulk smash someone 100 yards or Thor laying the hammer down and the person zooming out of sight.

I see these threads and all it has become is the I win button over and over again.

Gather them - aoe to obliteration and NEXT. God forbid that some one pause in the middle of that and do something COOL.
  2. I posted a few months ago about this and saw the same Golden Girl drivel then.

We get it you are in love with everything CoH and it can do no wrong.

Spending over 2 hours running an Arc and getting only 2 merits felt like an insult. I can do a Synapse TF in less time and get 32 merits. I can SOLO the old Positron TF in a little more than an hour and get 40 merits.

So you make me fight harder foes and give me less reward? A really winning combination there. You also don't give teammates any merits? Yeah that makes it hard to team.

What would I do to fix it? Make each arc worth either 4 or 6 merits.
Let my teamates get merits as well.

Also hello, everyone. Feel free to ask me anything about about why I said what I said. You seem way more civil than the Facebook page has been.
I thought your review was great as a new player experiencing the content the first time. The game has weaknesses and great strengths. It is a game with a hook as you play you begin to see things through your characters eyes.

Please stay and play the game more and see why it is so loved even with all the warts and blemishes.
  4. How I handle the - May I join your team? Request.

If I am actively soloing or have a team - sure.

If I am building a bunch of IO's or marketing - I explain IO'ing may be a while.

If they persist - I invite them and make them leader explaining I may be a while because I am building IO's. If others join the team, I say Hi! and say will join in a bit IO'ing.

I try not to be stupid about it. They want your company for good or ill. Sometimes I have met very good people and have them on my friends list now.

And when there's a choice between hanging around chatting on the RWZ or Pocket D between Trials, or spending that time street sweeping in DA and/or running the repeatable Incarnate contact missions, with the added bonus of being able to use the LFG while you're on a mission, then there's really no reason why anyone wouldn't go to DA to form a Trial.
You obviously have no idea how people play this game. If I am on a team rolling along having fun I don't suddenly in mid-flow say hey lets join those guys we don't know and run an ITF.

    No.

But then they'd be advancing on content that they were too powerful for.
Why would you not like all of your characters to advance to the end game? So the Devs are making this so you can run it once get ticked off and quit running it?

Please enlighten me. I slowly level alts up and sometimes when the character really grabs me I zip them all the way up. I took my Fire/Dark corr all the way through tier 4 alpha. You really need to think your replies through GG - you are saying the devs made content they don't want us to run?

How many Incarnates should we expect to have just one? 3? 42? Just curious as to how the end game is supposed to work if we are not supposed to play it.

No MMO developer can produce content fatser than their players can play it - so making anything that's non-repeatable is just crazy.
Hence the reason I said that the Alpha slot was wonderfully well done and the rest of the Incarnate stuff was poorly designed.

The Devs left the players with Baf and Lam or nothing for a while - then complained when the trials that the players have perfected are what they choose to run the 100 times they need to in order to get tier 4 on all abilities.

But allowing players to advance doing normal content would be the best idea. Just like the Alpha slot.
  8. I get an inspiration and a Hero is on its way.

Mowing my grass and Lawnslaught is born.
Listening to TSO play Oh Fortuna and Carmina Burana flickers to life.

(and yes Sam, please dont point out how I am now talking of the wait times, I already said they happen) Right now we have..solo, small teams, big teams (8 man tfs) and Leagues. 4 quite different and varied options. Giving us 8 man trials will damage leagues and be too similar to single team TFs.
If the trials over 8 are not fun people won't do them given an option.

That is NOT the players fault. Why do people run the ITF over and over? Because it is still fun and I have done it over a hundred times. I also love the Hero Side respec trial. I love the Wheel of Destruction arc, Joe's garage, the new Positron TF, Sewer Trial and Abandoned Sewer trial, Eden trial and I like to solo as well at times.

Last night we were running Hero tips for over 2 hours after an SG mate bullied me into starting and leading a team. We ran 27-32 tips and had players from 17-48 on the team. It was FUN. I have a high pressure job and so at times the solitude of soloing along and just drifting through the city is relaxing.

Sometimes I fire up Oh Fortuna, login Carmina Burana and fill up a team and burn the city down! It is my personal opinion that if the Raid content can't stand on its own it is pooorly designed. It is my opinion also that it is poorly designed and so players will run from it if a reasonable solo/small team path opens up.

Look, I'm not saying there's no room for a solo path, but you have ALWAYS gotten better rewards from team-only content. Don't expect that to change.
Rather limited personal attack attempt 3/10.

The game has met for the most part my ridiculously high expectations. The Incarnate stuff is Not Scottish and if its not Scottish...........

I play in teams, I play solo, I play TF's and all other trials except Incarnates because it is a poor attempt at a farming raid grind. I even at times have played a few CEBR ticket farms. When your final "content" is a perpetual drag and not fun - we all lose.

If you haven't read Silverlock, do so and perhaps you would have a different reply.

I've probably got 25 or more characters to T3 in all five slots (and most to T4 with Alpha). I play a lot, but I've never run more than three trials a night, and usually did just one or two (in part because I just got frustrated with all the crashing from the memory leaks when that was a problem).

The difference between a character with no Incarnate powers and one with five T3 powers is much greater than the difference between a character with five T3 powers and one with five T4 powers, even if you ignore the extra +2 levels that you get inside trials.

You just don't need the extra oomph a T4 power gives you in regular content, and in most trials you don't need that extra oomph if everyone else has T3 powers.
So you are telling to only drink twice from the spring at Hippocrene, in other words intentionally lessen your expectations?

Can you read that again to me? So you say only do 12-16 trials for EACH character? Ignore making them more powerful to the highest ability? So do a few trials just until you need glasses not until you go blind.
  12. I am an altoholic and as such - I have determined I have zero interest in trials or Incarnate abilities after the Alpha slot.

Why? Do you realize how many characters I could make in the time it took to run 30+ trials for each ability?

In my opinion the devs have made an incredibly stupid mistake. This game is about alts, fun and progression. They added a huge time sink right at the end. Instead of Valhalla where hero can fight and be drunk on battle and mead - we have an anchor slowing us down.

You want to be a super hero above all other heroes? Great just do 120 trials. ON EACH CHARACTER. The most incredible silliness that I can think of is that someone approved of it. Do it once and then each character has to do each trial ONCE to unlock it - now that makes good sense.

I will suspend judgement for myself on the solo/small team content and see if it makes sense. The Alpha slot was very well done, i do the arc get the slot and then play as I always did and progress. This is PUNISHMENT to progress and it reminds me of the Pit in the book Silverlocke - where in this case those who seek to better themselves take on a task where the goalposts are moved just as they reach it.

Faustopheles himself could not have devised a better punishment.

I will instead take the Delian way and head to Hippocrene to drink and enjoy the fun the game has and leave the Pit to those who need to wallow in it.
  13. By your time joined if you don't remember the jokes that Regen gets nerfed everytime.............
  14. This is amusing.

The arguably most over-powered AT in the game gets less of a boost than other AT's - Big Deal. I am not a nerf herder and don't want brutes lowered - but my god man they are getting boosted even though they are at the top edge of balanced. In some ways they are unbalanced.

Stalkers and Tankers just are at the far other end of balance and they get a better boost.

This is called FAIR - balancing AT's in an MMO you would think it never happened before - in a related note Regen is due to be nerfed again.............
  15. I have zero interest in these trials. I am not trolling but thanks for the personal attack.

I keep hearing that things are HARD when you add an insta-kill aspect. That doesn't equate with hard. Look I worked with teams to develop the first Hamidon raids that succeeded without a bunch of Rads.

That was Hard. It took months to design the strategy and learn what Hamidon did - what the Mito's were and how to defeat them. Now it is a given but back then no one knew. We made monster teams to stop the giants that stumbled in, made healing shields, had designated rezzors, sniping pools and so on all organized and orchestrated.

So your idea of hard and mine aren't the same. Cleverly designed foes like the Captain in the 3rd Who Will Die - where you destroy his buffing and then activate the guns for yourself - are fun.

Pools of death on the ground whether blue, pink or chartreuse not so much.

Alpha was good, you got to pick how you got it done and at what rate and people didn't really care if you just opened the slot or were plussed up to MAX_INT. It was like the rest of the game, there wasn't one path to 50.

Enter the next batch. You have iTrials. Period. Full Stop. Not a plus infinity? Not getting an invite. Don't bother using the queue. There are no roses so don't bother to stop to smell any, you're just wasting our time.

DA is my B5 (last, best hope) of the entire Incarnate system beyond Alpha and it's been made crystal clear DA cannot be comparable to the iTrials (since the iTrials are so much fun that people *want* to run them and would never abandon them in droves if given any other alternative...).
Ogi - dead on - the Dark Astoria make over will make the trials dry up and blow away.
  17. I am blaster hear me roar with debt too large to ignore
Fire, Ice or a Bullet just in Time
The Valkrie cry in exhaustion as I sow the seeds of death
I am blaster and the first one to Valhalla buys the beer.

Dance on my ice, sleep in permanent frost
Burn as I sing Oh Fortuna and fire rains from the sky
Fly as my soul's Energy send you sprawling
    Run and you die tired.

A Glass cannon with a short fuse
My powder is dry and my match is lit
Keep the eulogy short as the Phoenix rises soon
The bringer of death and pain.
  18. The fixes for the level shift is easy to do, have the leaders +shift apply to every player the same as it does in normal content. So yes level shift Super Side Kick.

Why do people not listen to instructions in trials? Some players play with the chat window closed, yes they really do.

Here is the other part - if the content isn't fun people won't play it. They are not finding the trials fun and if you have to run it 30 times PER character - you will take a small bite out of the turd sandwich that is BAF or LAM instead of a 4 course meal of turds.

Farms in the AE and almost all farmable missions people use are short and sweet - some 5 minutes or less. So a 10-15 minute Baf/Lam is ideal.

1.) Tanks (or other melee AT is useless) - Sure, you die more often because there is some unresistable damage. That in no way makes you useless or relegates you to having Blaster level survivability. The unresistable damage devastates other ATs more than you for a number of reasons: you have more HP, you are mitigating all the other incoming damage more effectively, and you have more tools to recover from that damage in general. The trials, if they change the need for Tanks at all, make them more desirable. At least with a TF a non-conventional tank could handle the aggro. That's not really true with the trials.

2.) I die too much. - Why do you care how much you are dying? Debt, if it can even be considered to have meaning in CoH anymore, certainly has none once you have hit the level cap. If anything, you should be happy that you can finally get those debt badges you probably don't have.

3.) Too much to do with Well of the Furies and Praetoria - I can understand, to an extent, being a little upset that you have to be tied by game lore into having a connection to the Well. But here's the thing: you don't. If you care enough about your backstory to be upset that you are suddenly tied to the well, you are probably more than capable of thinking up an alternate explanation for your improved powers. Praetoria happens to be the center of the currently unfolding story for the game. Remember how there was the Rikti War? Well, this is the new that. It's a pretty big deal. If you have been paying attention at all to the story, you'd know it won't be focused on Praetoria much longer anyway.

Bottom line: we finally have an end-game system that is more complex and entertaining than any other MMO. We actually have to take everything we learned in levels 1-50 and apply it, mixing in effective teamwork, to succeed. Our characters are no longer second fiddle to the Freedom Phalanx and Arachnos. We are now the center of the story. And with all of that, we are getting powers above and beyond anything we could have hoped to have before. Please stop complaining about it.

If you are wondering why I'm posting this here, it's because most of the more common complaints I see revolve around "my <insert AT here> is screwed over in iTrials" and I would like to put a stop to that notion in this thread.

    1. the trials aren't hard. Baf and Lam 20 minutes?
    2. Insta-death gimmicks that may get you killed due to lag spikes or a slower computer - isn't HARD.
    3. Farming the same trials repeatedly to get powers you can only use to farm MORE trials = fail. That is the intention I would imagine at some point because the Incarnate powers and level shift where you are fighting -1's in TFs is silly.

You obviously LIKE running those very hard 20 minute farms. Rolls eyes.
  20. I am sorry but people again need to think outside of the box.

You have trials that ALL award a random prize at the end. This means to get you what 16 or so slots you will need probably 30 runs of a trial to fill it all? So people run the fastest and easiest to get those 30 random awards.

    My Solution is simple:
    1. You must run the new trial ONCE to unlock the content for a new slot.
    2. After unlocking if you continue the run the trial for THAT ASPECT you get an automatic exactly matching slot filled.

Players want the easy way to do things and they have proven this every single time. 16 runs gets a proven completion versus 30+ times for a maybe? I would also say no cooldown if you run the automatic trial. Yes that means some may get the power filled in an all day session - however they will be playing the content.
  21. Infernus_Hades

    C'mon Newb!

Logging in on my Fire tank back in Issue 3 - having an SG mate brag about how I could herd hundreds (I could - herded the entire shard room in the Eden trial once). Then I join the team jump in hit taunt and die instantly, I forgot to toggle up.

Yeah that took several years to live down.
  22. As for IO's I start around 37ish to round them up. Some I build if I get drops or as someone said the Chance of Procs and other bonuses are best at lower levels for when you EX down.
  23. I was in a TF yesterday with my Sonic/Ice blaster and a Illusion/Time controller. It worked out the two of us would split off and go duo on the groups. With 2 overlapping sleeps we would have even the bosses asleep before they could twitch.

Then when the attacks started we had the mobs:

    On Ice patch
    Shivered
    Bosses slowed and debuffed
All the overlapping cones of Sonics -res and a group would last a few seconds.

I would completely love to run a duo with that combo again:
    Sonic/Ice blaster
    Illusion/Time controller

We had a ball destroying a +2 x 8 TF spawns without being slightly threatened.

The farming of PvP IO's by AFK is a bigger joke. Istated MANY times that PvP and these IO's should be COMMKON. When I can buy the top level IO for 2 Hero merits and a single PvP IO is 32 - it shows you that someone does not understand marketing 101.
