All of these make other players go wow. -
Exactly, because the AE is completely dead as well, rolls eyes.
If you could gain the same AE rewards doing in game PvP with Capture the flag, escort and leagues ............
You know it doesn't matter with the slow bleed to death of this game and now free-to-play - the Fat Lady is beginning her song. -
So explain to me exactly which idiot thought that people will pay to farm?
Well, now we know this game is doomed for real and looks like this may be the last year we walk the streets of Paragon.
Yes, DOOM is a real possibility now.
So cutting us from 36 to 12 slots? -
I would have a PvP zone called Valhalla.
In Valhalla the Valkyries would rip your soul out of your corpse and return them to a new body. Your foes would see the carmage and the sight of winged beauties diving from the sky would signal more foes to defeat.
I would have an AE style of PvP design where all powers, travel and maps could be editted.
It would include options for leagues and a terminal where you could see the stats for all teams/players. -
Added to that Airhammer was the fact they openly and often mentioned they hated farming.
Hamidon was intentionally on a spawn timer so it could not be repeatedly farmed. The missions we could easily farm - were put on timers.
Then after the complete stupidity of AE and the abuse of it for 2-3 months, the Devs not only ignored farming but they made 2 of their own farms and require you to do them to get a chance at something. It is easily as badly bungled as the entire ED issue. Ed after the GDN was again not only badly handled it was unnecessary at that time dropping aggro cap and AoE cap would have held the game over until inventions.
Instead lie to people, tell then quit if you want to because players come and they go......and offer then a few costume pieces to shut them up. Now we have SILENCE from the Devs on this issue. The threads pop up DAILY and get hundreds of responses - where is the Red Name reply?
Where is the straight forward and open conversation? We are for the most part a 7 year player base many of us still log in daily and we KNOW this game. We KNOW our players and listen to each other while teaming.
Other than feel good marketing crap we aren't getting the kind of direct conversation we had grown used to. Castle and Babs would have heated and in depth discussions. At times they would say - this is where we are going - I know some may not like it but the game engine, art work, design limitations or just people we have means we can't do that ..........yet.
Sometimes they gave us far more than we asked for, coloring powers, costumes, animals and other stuff. On the whole they have done very well by us - this time they are again dropping the ball, badly. -
Quote:I was following your logic.Actually, it's going to be the opposite - they've said they're going to look at the XP curve post-30, as some people seem to get bogged down their a bit - so it seems likely that they'll smooth the curve a bit from 30 to 50.
If you are not meant to have all of your 50's incarnate why allow players to have so many 50's? That makes just as much sense as the argument you make that not all 50's can be incarnate. -
Stupid.
Game is balanced on SO's right? I never even buy IO's until 37+ and any earlier ones are based on drops. I have never had a single HO in any character - EVER in 7 years.
I have also played many 50's over the years since IO's and have gotten a grand total of 4 purple recipes.
It has never stopped me from having fun - but if I don't grind your beloved trials - it does stop me from getting costumes and even future content. You sound like you want the endgame to follow the PvP plan - let's make it so much fun no one wants to do it.
The endgame like PvP is a hot mess. Playing PvP should have dropped recipes for PvP COMMONLY. Then instead of it costing BILLIONS to get one it would be easy - then PvP would be possible for more players - but well then that would be fun, can't have that. -
I personally have given up on anything past 49.
I do not wish to grind the trials and never will and the people who say well just play and convert shards to threads?
Idiots.
It has been proven that it will take YEARS to progress and BILLIONS of Influence. So you tell me I should just be willing to ignore future content, costumes, powers for YEARS as I slowly cash my 10 a day shards/threads into whatever new currency they create.
It is downright stupid.
The game is supposed to be fun. So now people say well a solo way should penalize you because they aren't trials? Really? If they make a way to do something that the PLAYERS say is more fun the Devs should penalize that fun? Again REALLY?
So for those who say solo/small teams content should be harder to get the reward - WHY? Because if they don't have to run the stupid grind there should be a penalty? So you are saying because I had to grind the trials you should have to suffer to get a reward?
Do you see how stupid that sounds?
If I see one more person say - well the trials are HARDER - No if something can be done in less time than you have to wait for a team to build in the Queue - its not Hard. How long is the average trial? 25 minutes? That's hard? Pfffffffttttttttt!
So what is hard about a trial? Oh, I know getting someone to actually use the temp powers at the right time. The one gentleman was right I have lost my passion for it and have given up. It is a far worse thing for the game than ED was and ED was terrible. To cut the powers without a secondary path ready - IO's - was ignorant. ED if it was done along with the introduction of the Invention system at the same time would have mitigated the disaster.
It was a disaster? Yes, in my SG at the time we went from 30ish regular players to 10 in a month. Then to finally 4 after 6 months. The thing was poorly thought out implementation of new systems without explanation of why and where it is going leaves people less than impressed.
If the devs do take ideas from the forums - which to me is complete hogwash - because I never saw a post saying:
Please make a farming style end game with gated content and repetitive trials that take longer to queue for than to run and also drop items that are required to progress on a completely arbitrary system. Yes, also please stop solo/small team folks from being able to get the same rewards within a period of less than 2 years. Also I don't want ALL of my characters to be able to get it. I mean make it painful enough to complete the content enough times that it discourages me from wanting to do it more than once or twice.
Did anyone ever see a post like that?
Well heck, lets just make it far harder to reach level 50 then! I mean each time you level a character to 50 it should double the XP required to get the next one up there. Then we could cut the number of 50's down and make the grind the entire game! Down with fun, bring on the Grind! -
For those who love grinding trials:
I can unlock my Alpha doing one arc, yes repeatable for every character - like the Midnighters, Roy Cooling, etc.
Then I could run ANYTHING and get shards. I could run a weekly TF for a merit boost and a Notice.
Then I could do exactly what I wanted and progress.
Then I20 and we get not only new content we get a new game. Instead of having 7 years of content to use, I get 2 trials. Then 3 trials soon - then 4 and then 5 all instead of using the content people know and love to play for the last 7 years.
It is absolute insanity for you to believe that anyone can generate content faster than the players can finish it. So I decided to hell with it and ignore the entire thing and do exactly what I used to do - at 50 I respec keep the best IO's and either give them away, pass them on or sell them and pass the cash to an Alt and start over deleting the 50.
I am waiting for the Devs to figure it out.
The players can finish it faster than you can make it. So stop the insanity and open the existing content like you did with the Alpha. Until then I have absolutely no need for a 50. -
I was playing Mab Queen of Winter on Virtue (the name is now available) and in fact actually got a chance to play with Jim Butcher on his Harry Dresden late one night.
I was on an Ice/Storm controller and she was so effective Jim said at one point - Wow! That is freaking cool.
Ice/Storm is my recommendation. -
My point is content versus easy of play.
1. Hamidon raids provided an enhancement that if you were lucky made play easier. Once you did the raid it opened no further content.
2. iTrials are gates. They are being made to stop progression unless you farm the trials. The developers have never before supported farming. In fact Hamidon had a COOLDOWN where he did not respawn in order to NOT FARM IT.
iTrials do not even cooldown you can grind, grind, grind.
This is a major step away from past policy and if you enjoy farming - good, I don't. I fully expect someone who was on Champion server now 5 years ago (it has been that long since I played that server) to now personally attack me again saying yes, I did too farm.
No, I agreed with the Devs thoughts on farming - it sucks. Now I did love to herd and still do and personally I love to street hunt. I still always level 1-12 doing street hunting Atlas/Hollows/Perez. I leave at 12 with 24 badges for exploration, usually over a million in salvage sales and ready for Midnighters in Steel. -
How many times have I done a Hamidon raid?
ONCE, after we spent months researching how to take him down. I actually gave my reward away even though it was the first time we had done it - because I was one of the organizers and some people did not get rewards as it was the click one the item on the ground reward and some took more than one.
Hamidon did not confer anything beyond an HO and the Sewer trial was the same. It gave a lower level version of the same thing.
Here is where you are not comparing apples with apples. Making the game easier versus gating actual future content. Hamidon raid could be done once and you have seen the content - future Incarnate stuff is gated behind farming trials. You can't even get to the content unless you do other content farms. So don't jump on your tractor and farm the approved way? No costumes, content and levels for you comrade.
In Russia content does you! -
Quote:This is true and false. Its not an analogy. I'm stating the fact that people have made the claim the game has made about-face changes that undermined all of its prior existence. That statement does not require qualification: its unambiguously true. I'm also stating the fact that gates of all kinds - including teaming - have been stated to be blocking progress. That statement also doesn't require qualification: it is unambiguously true.
In every case, people found ways to state their position in a way that emphasized some detail that made that particular situation binarily different from all previous decisions. This situation is no exception. People have found a new way to state the situation in a way that makes it different. That will *always* be possible.
But is this happening in a way that makes the distinction being highlighted fundamentally more important in an objective way? Not so far as I can see. The distinction is important to the people who find it important for no reason other than personal preference, which was also true for every other case prior. If your perspective is significant, its only as significant as everyone else's has been every other time. Which means this game has fundamentally altered itself many times.
Now, if you want to make an argument that doesn't just state why this particular change is singularly important and all previous people who asserted the same thing were wrong then if you're convincing I might come to believe this really is a unique event. But if you cannot explain to me why the thing you find important now should be considered more important than all the other things other players found equally important to them, my position is still that this has happened before, and will happen again.
You say that inventions make your character "wider" instead of the incarnate system which makes it "taller." But I don't see them that way, and I doubt the devs see it that way. They certainly were not designed that way. So that's a matter of personal perspective. Just like the people who had similar personal perspectives in the past in other situations.
Its not that I think your personal perspective isn't valid. Rather, the validity I'm granting it is no more and no less than everyone else who has made this claim in similar situations, which means I don't find your perspective and the people who share it uniquely valid. Whatever else you want to say about the changes and whether they improve or degrade the game, the specific point I don't think you have a leg to stand on is that this problem is unique. To say this is a unique break from the past is to say everyone else who said there was a unique break from the past was wrong. I don't believe you can make that case convincingly, because the primary leverage you have to make your own case is perspective, and you can't deny everyone else theirs if you do.
To make the case this problem is unique, you will have to leave the comfort of personal perspective, and make the case objectively in a way that this change judged objectively is fundamentally different from all previous ones, and that therefore all those other people were wrong in a way you aren't now. Its the same playing field I place myself in when I state my opinion of whether or not a game system is correct or incorrect in the literal sense: whether I like them or not, do they function as they should to satisfy the mandates of the game design. And in that sense, I believe I can make the case unambiguously that this game has never in its past made the design promise not to gate character progression behind teamed content. The devs remove gates, and they add gates. They never specifically do anything that would lead someone to believe they opposed gates. They have always stated their intent to be solo-friendly, but not solo-specific.
The reason why you always had a solo path to leveling is due to a completely different rule: core standard content must be soloable. This means things like story arcs. Because story arcs award XP and influence, theoretically speaking so long as you can run story arcs and other core mission content, you can always level and earn influence.
However, there is a separate rule that says enhanced or higher end content does not have to be soloable. Task forces, trials, even content with archvillains within it do not promise the players they can solo them. You might, but if you can't that's working as intended.
Being able to always progress and always achieve virtually all the rewards was a consequence of the first rule in the absence of a conflict with the second rule. But the end game falls under the auspices of the latter rule not the former rule, and there's no design rule that has ever existed in the game to give the former rule preeminence over the latter rule.
There's no historical basis for claiming such a rule, so there's no historical basis for saying all progressionally-related rewards must have a standard content outlet. To the extent that was ever true, and it wasn't always true, it has been a coincidence born of simply not having very much end game rewards to gate.
There have been changes and yet NEVER have they forced us to farm the same exact missions over and over again in order to progress. The changes are twofold, gating and forced farming. Some gating is always done - you beat the big boss - you gain a level and so on.
But forced farming tied to the gates? Never before in this game. -
Another common crash to desktop or restart issue is your Power supply is failing (PSU).
As it fails it will become more and more often. -
Lisette is an older variant of the name as is Elspeth, Elise and Belita.

I let my subscription expire this week for the first time in over 5 years.
Why?
I don't like grinding and farming. I know some people do and if so please enjoy your AE, Trial or farm mission. I also live in a very rural area and the only high speed connection available is via Aircard. Verizon is very good but I still get limited bandwidth out here.
Could I move to a new location? Absolutely however the joy of waking up and looking out my back deck at 100+ acres of meadows and woodlands and out my front door at another 100+ acres of primeval oak forest is a joy that broadband can't match.
It does limit my game play. I can't do a Mothership raid or a Hamidon raid. I can't usually join in the large events like Rikti attacks or Zombies unless it is early in the morning. To do such things I do wake up at 5:30 am so I have 90 minutes of gaming before I go to work or to spend time working on a book I want to finish.
I can't do a BAF trial or since reading of the Lambda lag that one either. I have a very fast system but my connection is so variable that at times I have organized and started TF's and had to quit since I refused to door sit or leech.
This game was perfect for me until our developers decided to force us to run the trials to advance past 50. I knew where it would head but hoped they would relent and allow a path for solo/small teams to progress slower but still to achieve the shiney in a reasonable 3-6 month range.
I cancelled this week when it became obvious MORE was going to be linked to these farming trials and that we were going to be herded to have fun the way they (Devs) wanted it not how we the players choose to. The population is static or slightly negative year to year now. With forced teaming and trial based content it is hard to find a small team on the lower level stuff or TFs.
My point is most players and the Devs must certainly know (and if they don't they have learned) it is impossible to create content fast enough to keep the players happy. So you grind 2 trials. Then 3 trials once its open and after a year lets be generous and say 6. Against those 6 lets compare the vast amount created over 7 years. There is no comparison.
Positron says he want us to experience the new stuff? I will tell you for a fact some can't, some won't and some will love it, some will hate it. In the past it did not matter. I could gain experience, not gain it, Ex, Sidekick or play the game in any combination I chose to advance. Now by not allowing me to continue with 7 years of tradition - you stopped me. I have to run dozens or in fact HUNDREDS of the same trials repeatedly to progress.
End game? To me it is the end of the game if it continues like this. I can't do the stuff most of the time and therefore I solo about 50% of the time. I do run TF's but usually DC 3-6 times each one. To watch the game I have played for so long, change to a forced style of play if I seek to advance is extremely disheartening. I am planning now to go month by month for a time and see if any solo or small team way is offered.
I do have hope that 4G may make its way here in the next 18 months or 2 years, until then I wait and hope. -
Yes, they broke the game.
I have cancelled my account after 7 years due to the whole incarnate mess. I see they deleted the earlier thread on why folks are finding it harder and harder to log on.
Once you are this powerful and the game is completely trivial with no challenge - its is time to go.
I believe the Devs killed the game. I have spoken to a lot of veterans of the game lately and we are all of like idea - time to go. This Incarnate stuff was badly conceived and implemented IMHO. -
Mezmeara lets look at what your husband wants in a blaster:
Sonic/Fire - -resistance and the added fire damage makes this a very high damage blaster
Radiation/Fire - is a good High end content blaster and an AV cracker. The -defense cuts through hard targets
What would I pair with them?
Sonic/Fire I absolutely would go with a Plant/kin controller or a Plant/Psi Dom. It also really would shine under a Fire/Kin corruptor.
Radiation/Fire matches up well with a Claws/WP brute. You run lower numbers of foes but higher levels. Then the Radiation cracks the armor making claws more effective. -
Think of Synergy.
Add 2 things together that make both better this game is all about damage and so force multipliers win every time:
Fire/Dark Corruptor and a Fire/Kin Corruptor
Plant/Psi Dominator and a Fire/Kin Controller
Spines/Dark Scrapper and a Sonic/Rad defender
Fire/Fire Brute and a Cold/Traps
Your idea is to either multiply an already powerful force or to fill in a weakness on a powerful force that has a hole.
Look to my examples:
Fire/Fire brute is all damage all the time but is squishie due to fire armor - Cold shields make it very powerful and the traps debuffs make the fire damage even more powerful.
Plant/Psi dom is an extremely damaging force and has seeds of confusion that will extend the life of the imps for the controller and the kinetics for the troller will boost the damage of the Dom.
Spines/Dark is a killing machine adding Sonic shields and the -res debuff to him and the added -def of the rad attacks makes it amazing.
These are just examples you can look at what a character DOES and HOW. Do you spend time doing damage or buffing? If damage how can you make it even more damage? Just look at things and work them through! -
Look at costs:
DS3 - about $500 a month give or take each line
Monthly server costs - lets be really extravagant and say $25k a month
Staff monthly - again lets be extravagant - $400k a month
So let's say to round it off $500k a month to run the show.
$500k a month profit every single month, not too shabby. -
Penguin it is not just you.
It is not your computer - it is the game or rather perhaps the server.
I have the EXACT same issue since Issue 20 and worse now with the merger. It is nearly impossible to team and I have died 3 or 4 times each day due to lag - all while I have new mown grass on netgraph and am running a Phenom II 965 Black x4, 8 gb ram, ATI 6870, Raptor hard drive and when you stutter and glitch all while showing 170+ fps and 230 ping flatlined - IT IS NOT ME.
It is the game and if you read through some other posts others are having the exact same problem. -
Someone says - I suck at using my Corruptor and people give him builds?
He wants to know how to effectively help his team and solo some if he has too - just like all of us.
First understand what you are - a debuffing machine! Dark/Dark is not one for rolling huge Orange numbers - saying that they are very safe to solo and you should be able to roll +1 x 8 without too much trouble.
Here is what you have as tools:
Primary
Dark Blast Ranged, Moderate DMG(Negative), Foe -To-Hit
Gloom Ranged, High DoT(Negative), Foe -To-Hit
Moonbeam Sniper, Extreme DMG(Negative), Foe -To-Hit
Tenebrous Tentacles Ranged (Cone), Minor DoT(Negative), Foe Immobilize, -To-Hit
Night Fall Ranged (Cone), Moderate DoT(Negative), Foe -To-Hit
Torrent Ranged (Cone), Minor DMG(Negative), Foe -To-Hit, Knockback
Life Drain Ranged, Minor DMG(Negative), Foe -To-Hit, Self Heal
Blackstar PBAoE, Extreme DMG(Negative), Foe -To-Hit, Self -Recovery
Secondary
Twilight Grasp Ranged, Foe -Regen, -DMG, -To-Hit, Team Heal
Tar Patch Ranged (Location AoE), Foe -SPD, -Jump, -Fly, -Res(All)
Darkest Night Toggle: Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe -DMG, -To-Hit
Howling Twilight Ranged (Targeted AoE), Minor DMG(Negative), Foe Disorient, -Regen, -Recharge, -SPD, Ally Rez
Shadow Fall Toggle: PBAoE, Team Stealth, +DEF(All), +Res(Energy, Negative, Psionics, Fear)
Fearsome Stare Ranged (Cone), Foe Fear, -To-Hit
Petrifying Gaze Ranged, Foe Hold
Dark Servant Summon Dark Servant: Ranged, Debuff, Special
How?
Look at your tools and in a team you make sure people don't get hit. Drop tar patch and hit them with Fearsome stare. Next Howling twilight to stun them and then Tentacles to freeze them. I would then run FORWARD to the next group and use Darkest Night to pull the next group onto your existing tar patch. Your fear should be up again and now just cycle your cones and heal as needed. I only summon my Pet if I am solo.
Personally I don't get Super Jump I get combat jumping and Super Speed so I am invisible to most while applying darkest night.
Solo you use darkest night to pull them onto Tar Patch and then tear them up with cones and any AoE's you have. You also repeatedly fear them and liberally use Howling Twilight.
If you play like this you will not suck and your build means nothing you can rock with SO's. -
I love to create characters that with just the name it creates an association.
Heart of Glass
Molly Wallop
Gothic Decay
Many others that just with a look at the costume and the name you don't even need to read my bio to know what I am doing. I than can create the costume to match the idea. No where else can I do this and most times I feel like a Shadowrunner and that is what I want. -
What if you could build a tank with most of the resistance of a fire tank?
More -to hit than a Dark tank/scrapper/brute.
More damage than any tank?
You can and that's why I have instead built my Fire/Dark based on Resistance.
Let me explain my thinking:
I considered what effects do the Dark powers actually cause?
1. -To Hit
2. Slows
3. Disorient
4. Fear
5. Quick Heal
6. Resistance
So if as Patron powers I choose:
Dark Embrace 41 Toggle: Self +Resistance(Smash, Lethal, Negative, Toxic)
Power Boost 44 Self +Special
Summon Mistress 47 Summon Fortunata Mistress: Ranged Moderate Damage(Psionic)
Then looking through the IO sets I found numerous ways to increase my Resistance/Defense to mezzing. My idea and it has worked amazingly well was by using high Resistance, some Defense and allowing my Heal and -to hits to act as armor for me - I could become a tank.
It worked. I do get mezzed occasionally but it is extremely rare and when I do I count to 3 and heal from the mezzing offender thereby dropping his to hit so I don't get mezzed again.
In gameplay:
Approach a group using Superspeed with Shadowfall (resistance) and Dark Embrace (more resistance), "paint" a boss or mezzer with Darkest Night High (-to hit).
Turn a corner drop tarpatch and once they hit the patch Fearsome stare (-to hit), Howling Twilight (stun + -to hit + slow and terror in Lt and Boss)
Fireball, Fire Breath and Rain of Fire and let the flames roar!
You have them slowed, minions stunned, -to hit through the floor, you have a 30% -resistance on your foes and stuff feared. I personally added Provoke with a chance to stun so that I can possibly stun that boss with a word
I built as a tank and I have so much more damage and other tools that it can be amazing.
