I ran this thing 3 times last night, 2 failures and then a success. The main difference on the 3rd run is that we did *not* kill everything on the terminals. If you pull the guards far enough away, you can kill the technician and activate the terminal. This is true on all the phases involving terminals. I think we actually did kill them on phase 2 since that's the easy one, but on the later phases we had a team of 3 tanks and 3 blasters...the tanks pulled the mobs, the blasters kill the technicians and clicked the glowies, repeat.

The second we killed one of them though, she seemed to stop in her tracks. By the time we realized this, we had run out of time, but it was enough for everyone to question if we were just imagining things or if the guide was wrong. I specifically saw a notice at the bottom of the trial UI where it said something along the lines of "KILL the nightmares to 'control' Shalice."
I've only run the thing once, but it was a success. We killed off the nightmares the first time she spawned, and she made it to the portal so that was a failure for us. The second time, we completely ignored them, and took her down. Third time, we had a tank pulling them to her, and we ended up killing them with AoEs as well as her, and took her down. Fourth, same as the third. All of which makes me still confused as to what we were actually supposed to be doing. Maybe we just had enough debuffs and DPS that it didn't matter.

I call that extremely successful!! Thank you all for attending, donating, and being awesome!
This was a great success. Thanks MP for organizing and hosting!
  4. The story continues with AE arc 529006, A Binding of Hate! From the arc description:

Shadow of Disgrace is a hero who has lost much of his memory, but what remains has provided clues to a great disaster which looms over the world. Can you put the clues together in time to prevent a catastrophe?

Further story updates will take into account the events of this arc.

The original post was not farm related. I'm sorry that someone jumped on it with a farm question in the second post. Just ignore that one and take a look at the first build, please. I intend to use him in task forces and incarnate trials, like any of my other toons.
  6. I've got way too many toons. I just recently got around to pulling Steady Arsonist (who I originally soloed to 50, back in the day) back out of retirement. He still has a lot of SOs and the Fitness pool, so it was definitely time for a respec. After reading a few other threads from this forum and playing around with Mids, I came up with the following build. It's not quite at the soft-cap for defense, but I had a hard time finding a way to do that...at least not without losing other important parts of the build. If anyone has any suggestions for improvements, I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance!

I'm probably going to respec again soon, and create a second build. The first build will be built around soloing, when I need damage and endurance more than high defense; the second build will be little damage but high defense, for task forces and the like.
  8. TT was a lot of fun last night. We had three teams full of tanks (at least...might have been a fourth I didn't catch on the TankHQ global channel). On my team we not only had many lowbie tanks gain many levels while running my L50 tips missions, but also took out three Paladins we found lounging around in KR. Good fun!

  11. Build: Moonfire

    Level 23 (Trainer: Luminary)

    Slots Added:
2 to Murky Cloud (Steadfast Protection: Res/End and KB)

I hit level 23 during the Dam Hero TF (Posi part 2). I haven't run Rule of Three (part 1) yet, and probably won't until I can get a small Eagle team together to do it. I've already lost one Eagle to those evil simulacrums in the last mission, and came close to losing another to CoT. For a hardcore character, Rule of Three is just too dangerous to do with a pick-up group. Dam Hero isn't nearly as bad, though, so I went ahead and joined a group off Justice United. As expected, the SOs made a huge different in my defenses, and I was never in any real danger through the whole task force. I did still get knocked around a bit, though. Doc Vahz actually knocked me off his catwalk, which was seriously annoying. So when I chose my L23 slots, I decided on two more in Murky Cloud to slot the entire Steadfast Protection set (it already had the global defense IO) for a bit more resistance and another 4 points of KB protection. The extra 1.5% recovery and 1.5% HP doesn't hurt, either.

    Level 24 (Trainer: Ravenstorm)

    Power: Hasten (SO:Recharge)

    Level 25 (Trainer: Luminary)

    Slots Added:
    1 to Murky Cloud (SO:Resistance)
    1 to Hasten (SO:Recharge)

Both level 24 and 25 came on the Moonfire TF with the Iron Eagles. I was the only melee character: the others were a Earth/Time controller, a Storm/Dark defender, and three (!) blasters. That level of damage-dealing is unheard of on an Eagle team, but it worked out very well. I was a bit concerned about the lack of defense-boosting buffers at first, but there was no need. Between the Storm and Time debuffs, plenty of soft control from Freezing Rain/Earthquake and blaster KB, and the hard Earth controls, there wasn't much hitting me anyway. All I had to do was jump into the mob and taunt the bosses to keep them occupied while the blaster corps decimated the flopping/stunned/debuffed minions. Then everyone finished off the bosses. No deaths, successful task force, and Silver Bullet/The Slayer badges all around. Afterward, I took Shadow of Disgrace around the city to collect the rest of the Atlas Medallion badges, always a useful accolade. And since I was in Old Galaxy City anyway, picked up the Tank badge, which every tank should have.

    Level 26 (Trainer: Luminary)

    Power: Boxing (SO:Accuracy)

I still needed to finish my ten hero tips for alignment confirmation, so I joined a small group doing hero tips. Turns out they were running L50 and +2/x8, which for a sidekick means facing full spawns of +3 and +4. Even when the 50s were doing most of the fighting, this was pretty dangerous, so I only stuck around for two missions. Both were Carnies, which isn't as bad as you might think when running a Dark tank, since I at least have some psionic protection. I'm not slotted for it, though, not in the mid 20s. I'm pretty sure everyone except me died at least once in those two missions, especially during the bit when the Mind Dom decided to confuse six different mobs. Of course they didn't all die before the confuse wore off, so we ended up with a dozen bosses all ganging up on us at once. Used up all my careful hoarded Lucks in that fight. Survived it all, fortunately, and got level 26 in the process. I decided to take Boxing, although chances are pretty good I'll decide to respec again in a few more levels and pick up all the Fighting powers earlier in the build.
  12. Story: Moonfire

Striga Isle teemed with Council soldiers. Dozens, hundreds, perhaps thousands. From steep volcanic slopes to the docks of Port Noble, the Council army dominated the island, though their rule was not without challengers. The Banished Pantheon held sway over certain lowlands in the center of the island. The Warriors held a base of their own on a smaller island nearby. Sky Raiders conducted frequent raids from a fortified airfield. Against all of this stood the heroes Ravenstorm and Moonfire. Despite the overwhelming odds, they made their presence felt, with the help of many other heroes from Paragon City.

A small team of Iron Eagles gathered near Moonfire. They had heard of the danger posed to the world by the Council's Nictus soldiers, and particularly their leader, Arakhn. Rainy Knight, Cristallin, Pure Boost, Rad Stacey, Cold Fusionette, and Shadow of Disgrace accepted the risk of defeat to meet this challenge. With guidance from Moonfire, they set out to track down Arakhn and defeat her.

Caves filled with the Council's Vampyr and Werewolves, squadrons of soldiers in underground bases, Galaxy troops infused with Nictus power from Arakhn's experiments...the Eagles faced them all. Shadow of Disgrace led the charge, drawing enemy fire, trusting his friends to defeat the enemies before they could overwhelm him. And he was not disappointed. One after another, the Council groups fell.

In time, Arakhn was cornered. Having come this far, the Eagles showed no hesitation. Her Council guards were defeated swiftly. Arakhn was left alone, more than a match for a single opponent, yet unable to stand against the combined might of the heroes. Dark energy flowed around her, potent and deadly, yet she grew weaker moment by moment as her powers failed to absorb all of the Eagles' force.

During this battle, Shadow of Disgrace stood closest to the Council Nictus leader. His body took the brunt of her attacks, blunted by the dark powers which protected him. Pale gray flame leapt from his hands, barely singing Arakhn, but drawing her attention away from the other Eagles as they pounded her defenses. Unable to stand the force brought to bear by the heroes, Arakhn fell.

To any outside observer, the battle was a great success. The Eagles celebrated their victory with customary restraint, quietly enjoying a job well done. But within the mind of Shadow of Disgrace, victory was not so clear. Yes, Arakhn had been defeated, and the Council threat was diminished. During that battle, though, he had not seen Arakhn before him, but rather a figure wrapped in flames, attacking with fists as black as night.

That burning figure haunted his dreams, ever since he had first seen it long ago. But this time was different. He knew that something was about to change. It involved the Council, and the magical presence detected first at GIFT. It was dangerous, perhaps even catastrophic. And alone, he stood no chance in stopping it.

    Videos!

It's come to my attention that there are lots of new players in the game lately! (I know, my powers of observation are underwhelming.) I've run across a few folks that don't know about some of the awesome player videos out there on the Interwebs. Here's a selection of my favorites. Post more!

ParagonWiki has some good pages on the incarnate system. I'd start here, with the alpha slot page:

Read there and follow the links to learn all about the various alpha slot abilities and other incarnate slots.
  15. Here's what I use. Fire Me isn't totally min-maxed by any means but the build works really well against any smash-lethal-fire enemies, and can hold its own against others as well. With a Cardiac alpha there's no real endurance issues. I've used him to run through tip missions set at +0/x6 (no bosses) and also some of the AE fire farms at +2/x8 (with bosses).

Now, if you don't have the time to get all those IOs, you can certainly still use the same build with SOs, just be aware that you'll want to run a lower difficulty. Make sure you use some End Redux in every attack and toggle if you don't have the Cardiac alpha and the recovery IOs, otherwise you'll have a lot of downtime waiting for endurance.
  16. This post inspired me to work up a build for my WP/DM tank, who hasn't seen a respec in many months. I started with New Dawn's build then modified it for my own tastes - reduced the levels of some IOs for better exemplaring, worked Hasten and Dark Consumption in, switched Super Jump to Super Speed, added a stealth IO. I lost some regen (663% vs 590%), end recovery (231% vs 206%), and HP (154.3% vs 153.6%); but gained a ton of recharge thanks to Hasten, and Dark Consumption should make up for the end recovery. I also replaced a few IOs to make the build cheaper, like removing the Eradication 4-way IOs and replacing them with the damage procs.

  17. Build: Safeguard

    Level 20 (Trainer: Valkyrie)

    Power: Build Up (DO:Recharge)

Finished up Penelope Yin's arc in the Hollows, leveled up and did some shopping in Steel, then ran a few tip missions. I'm aiming to get my hero confirmation and then perhaps run the SSA missions as I level up a bit.

    Level 21 (Trainer: Aurora Borealis)

    Slots Added:
    2 to Build Up (2x DO:Recharge)

Got to level 21 with the fine tanks of Tanker Tuesday. Had a couple close calls fighting in that PI bank mission, as it was once again made clear that a L21 sidekicked to L49 is in no way equal to an actual L49. But fortunately being on a Tanker Tuesday team means there's always someone else around to grab your aggro when you need it.

    Level 22 (Trainer: Ms. Liberty)

Power: Cloak of Darkness (SO:Endurance Reduction)

Woot, level 22! Got there via a few more tip missions. I ended up using a respec to move a few slots around, though I fully expect to need another one in a few levels once I can reasonably fit Fighting pool powers in without losing my ability to solo at a decent speed. (8+ years of veteran status means respecs are pretty much an unlimited resource.) Picked up a Miracle unique, a couple 4-IO sets of Kinetic Combat, and a Reactive Armor 4-IO set out of my stash of L25 IOs. Everything not filled with an IO now has SOs. Feeling much more survivable now. Another couple of levels and I'll probably start looking to join a few task force teams.
  18. Story: Safeguard

Traveling from King's Row to Independence Port, Shadow of Disgrace came upon a gathering of heroes. This was not uncommon in Paragon City, of course. Many would gather in Atlas Park or Pocket D to socialize, near Wentworth's Consignments to barter, or around members of the Freedom Phalanx to volunteer their services to serve the city.

This was a gathering of a different sort, however. He recognized Petroglyph, one of the mightiest of the Iron Eagles, with his great hammer of stone. There was Burning Fuery, legendary for his control of heat and flame. Vox Populi, Umbral Paladin, Last Daughter, Unstoppable Typhoon...the names seemed endless, many of Paragon City's elite. Also present were relative newcomers to the city, such as Avalanche Fighter, and Shadow of Disgrace himself.

In all this gathering, with all their powers, there was one common theme: protection. Each was armored in their own way, and every one was ready to step between others and harm. Shadow of Disgrace approached, eager to discover what occasioned this gathering of such a force. But before he framed his questions, a flurry of activity erupted.

The gathering dissolved into several small groups of heroes. He overheard one such group mention Citadel, one of the Freedom Phalanx, and a task involving the Council. Others spoke of things they had heard on the streets, tips that could lead to stopping nefarious plots by a wide range of villains. But nearest to Shadow of Disgrace, Burning Fuery's voice rang out: "Peregrine Island is under attack! Malta and the Carnival of Shadows roam the streets, and Arachnos is attacking the bank!"

Since coming to Paragon City, Shadow of Disgrace's powers had grown steadily. It often felt as if he was relearning old skills, rediscovering abilities that previously had been second nature. And much more still awaits discovery. Yet despite all of his progress, he knew that the danger of Peregrine Island, including these Malta and Carnival of Shadows, were well beyond his current abilities. Nonetheless, he was determined to do his part in this emergency. He volunteered to help. Following the example set by Burning Fuery and Petroglyph, he knew he could overcome enemies well beyond his normal abilities.

Six heroes came to the aid of Peregrine Island that day. The force was unconventional, even in a city full of superheroes. No wizards threw fireballs, no far-future rifles fired laser blasts. No subtle confusion was inflicted on the villains, no trick arrows spread glue and oil in their paths. Each of the heroes that day stood face to face with his opponents, withstanding all the damage they could do, and wearing them down to defeat.

The chaos in Peregrine Island was turned to order through the efforts of these heroes. Arachnos was driven back. The plots of the Carnival of Shadows were stopped, from firebombs to weapons deals. Malta were cleared from the streets, and the Paragon Police once again have control. All made possible by these heroes who put themselves in harm's way.

The heroes went their separate ways, once the emergency was done. Each had other tasks, other groups of heroes to assist. Shadow of Disgrace was once again alone, but he had grown from the experience. The example set by those more experienced heroes showed him a path to greater power, better ways to improve his abilities, and other ways to be of service to Paragon City.

This story written in honor of Tanker Tuesdays (see the November schedule here).

    Zomg!

Posted this over in the GUI big thread too, also here for easy reference.

This happens to me sometimes but I just reload my UI and it's all good. Can't promise it'll work for everyone but it's doing the job for me.

Setup: On a character with the UI set the way you like it, do /optionsave and /wdwsave. (You can also do /chatsave if you use multiple chat tabs, and /bindsave if you use custom binds).

Whenever you need to reset the UI, because of this bug or making a new toon or other reason: Do /optionload and /wdwload. (Optionally, /chatload and /bindload also.)

    Who Will Die?

I'm a big fan of the Who Will Die arc up to this point. I admit to being skeptical before it launched, because it sounded like just another comic book death story. But it's been very interesting up to this point.

Stop reading if you haven't played through 'em yet, some spoilers.

SSA #1 is clearly set up to be an introduction. Other than putting forward the concept of the obelisks, not a lot happens. But it sets up Jean and the mystery bad guy, and gives you an idea of why the Phalanx is in danger. I especially like the villain side where you get Synapse's abilities as temp powers - very cool mechanic.

SSA #2 seems primarily to be a vehicle to introduce the Midnighters into the story. The bit where Darrin Wade appears seems especially important in retrospect. And the new Rularuu worshiper enemies are pretty cool. We'll see if Rularuu plays a bigger role down the line or not. I like the third mission of this one where you jump through all those Shadow-Shard-style portals, I always liked those.

SSA #3 is a big move forward story-wise, with the revealing of Malaise and Darrin Wade. I'm a bit surprised that Wade has it in him to coordinate a plot, he always seemed like a bit player before. I wouldn't be surprised to find out down the line that he's just another puppet. Obviously the death of Miss Liberty is going to bring the wrath of Statesman down someplace. I wouldn't be at all surprised if along about episode seven, we suddenly discover that Statesman can bring her back to life by sacrificing himself. Mechanically, the best bit of this one is the hero side third mission where you fight Blitz. Love the flyer with AA-guns.

Very true. I make a good chunk of change from just buying recipes and selling the crafted IOs, because people are willing to pay that premium so that they don't have to spend the time doing the buying/crafting. Me, I'm a cheapskate and actually enjoy the crafting, so I'm happy to provide the service and make some profit at the same time.
  24. Any particular reason why you guys locked toons at L33? I might get a toon or two locked in to run the SSA and/or tips for A-merits, but I was thinking it should be at either L25 (to get min-level LotG or Miracles) or L30 (min level on Numina).
