  1. And at the same time (maybe not a coincidence) new sound effects for fountains, the trams, the clockwork polishing the sides of buildings in Praetoria, and others.

Indeed. Of all my characters I have none for which a hover board would fit their concept. To that end, I haven't bought it. And the toggle off all powers part? Fail. I like the suppress-toggled-powers until you dismount idea though.

I've been here 7 years. And I've seen all if it; every little detail up close and personal. I'm a MMORPG fanatic, and have had my hands into playing every AAA title that has come down the pike, along with a lot of AAs. The only devs that have totally impressed me over the years are Mythic (DAoC) and the devs for CoX. They are all genuinely talented people who seem to love their jobs. And those are the two greatest qualities I look for in a Dev team.

Absolutely not! I use SO's on all my chars up to level 47, and THEN I slot level 50 IO's. And even that isn't required, really.

The Invention Origin enhancement system is completely optional. As the devs designed it. Let it stay that way.

Oh, and get off my lawn! *unscrewed the refigerator light bulb*
  5. Okay, so that's why I've stopped auditing the Help channel on all my chars recently. Yeah, I know, I'm a party pooper. So there!
  6. Our old cocker spaniel, Georgie, would become Sir George Loves-a-lot!

An Emp/Rad defender. The Radiation power would be radiating love which he uses to subdue his enemies who end up snuggling and hugging him helplessly.

But seriously. I agree completely. These new NPC factions are most excellent!
  9. When I have all day to game (weekends) I always take a 1 mile walk right after lunch, or my buttochs can't make it for a day in front of the computer. Oh, and I do plenty of walking around campus while at school during the week.
  10. I was 48 when I started playing CoH on release day. That's the same time I finally earned by BS in CIS. I had already been teaching CIS classes for a college in southern California for over 10 years by then.

I moved 3 times since I started playing CoH, but all to locations just a few miles apart. My husband's fault, not mine. I was happy where we were living when we got married amost 22 years ago.

I've left CoH to play other MMORPG's for a couple months at a time to up to 8 months (WAR) but I've never let my subscription lapse and I've always come back to CoH and appreciated it even more than before. This is truly the love of my life as far as MMORPG's go.

I have a husband who is completely uninterested in MMORPG's--heck, he loves solatair. But he understands my addiction to CoH and give me all the time I want to play (usually).

  13. Whoops, I thought this was the link to Altoholics anonymous.

Oh, and what's this "main" character people are talking about?

Veteran 3: Thank God for these Destiny powers overlapping one another!

Veteran 4: It's a far cry from what it once was!

Veteran 1: Who'da thought, back in issue 1, that we'd be blasting through level 54 content like nothing?

Veteran 2: In them days we'd have been lucky to have even survived level 54s, let alone breeze through them like we are!

    Veteran 3: Barely survive.

Veteran 4: With quite a few teamwipes.

Veteran 1: Even whilst using every inspiration in the tray!

Veteran 2: Even at softcap positional defence, too!

Veteran 3: Even at every stat hitting the cap!

    Veteran 4: Or even beyond.

Veteran 1: But we were happy in them days, even if level 54 content was too hard.

Veteran 2: Because level 54 content was too hard! Our powers used to mean something back then. I used to say the difficulty taught us things.

Veteran 3: Aye that it did.

    Veteran 4: Aye.

Veteran 1: And even them powers was harder back then. Remember defiance didn't used to buff damage?

Veteran 2: Buff damage? You were lucky it didn't decrease damage like Fury once did!

Veteran 3: Decrease it? Pah! Scrappers' critical strikes used to deal the critical strike damage to the scrapper!

Veteran 4: Is that all? Back in them days Defender's inherent Vigilance used to remove 5 endurance per second for each player on the team and increase recharge time and decrease damage for all powers.

Veteran 1: Of course, when I say it didn't increase damage, I mean beyond the -9999% damage buff that was permanently applied to blaster archtypes.

Veteran 2: -9999%? You were lucky back then. We brutes used to have -9999% and lose a power every two levels.

Veteran 3: You were lucky to lose a power! Scrappers used to have their powers replaced at random for self-destruct buttons that dealt damage to the team! Each time a new mission started it'd scramble the power so that it came when least expected!

Veteran 4: You were lucky to be left with some functional powers at all! Defenders used to lose four powers for every level, have -9999% damage, have all their powers turn into self-destruct buttons and every time they self destructed it'd delete their character.

Veteran 1:... Just one character? I'd have killed to have just one character deleted. Each time Blasters moved it deleted every character on their account.

Veteran 2: Sounds like you were one of the lucky ones. Each time a brute even logged on it'd delete their entire account details and ban their IP from ever forming a new one.

Veteran 3: Just ban their IP?! Each time a Scrapper even thought about logging into their account it'd delete all the characters, delete their account, ban their IP and continue billing their account every month.

Veteran 4: But you try telling this to these new free players and they wouldn't believe you.

    Veteran 1: Not a chance!

Veteran 2: But we had something back then.

Veteran 3: Aye, that we did. We knew about difficulty.

Veteran 4: And we worked for our rewards.
Since no one commented on this awesomeness, I just hate to quote it! Now you awe me a new keyboard, Aneurysmo.
  15. Did you know that practically every zone (Atlas Park, Kings Row, Mercy, Steel Canyon, etc.) has at least one new billboard that was player created? Keep your eyes peeled to spot them.
  16. Actually, I have a tiny fix for all the incarnate trials that would make them more fun: Remove the timer that only lets you exit the hospital for 10 seconds every 30 seconds.

You know, Bright, this is exactly my experience and situation. I have tried to like Keyes. I've easily run it over 20 times with different characters. I still don't like it. If I was ever going to like it I probably would by now.

When will people get this through their thick skulls? Practically every feature in CoX is optional. Complaining about new features (especially when they don't negate the older features) is silly. Just don't do those features if they are not fun to you.

Personally, I've never understood all the over-the-top IOing that people do to their characters. I get a regen and recovery IO or two slotted and I'm happy. I look at people that have dozens of Set Bonuses and I scoff--I perform on par with them in missions, trials and TF's so what's the big deal? Virtually all the features in CoX are optional. If there's something you don't like, don't do it.

    Beam Rifle?

I suppose it's possible that the Beam rifle has recoil because it was designed to emulate the feel of a regular projectile rifle. So that the shooter could go back and forth between weapon types without relearning how they feel to fire.

Ahem! I'm from Mars (actually called Utargort in my native tongue), and the sky is pinkish, and water looks black as oil when we pull it from the deep wells we have to drill to find it.

  22. You know Steelclaw, when I think about our great community one of the first people I think about is you. And that's all I gotta say. 4 more years!
  23. Community, definitely. But from a playability point of view, the teaming in CoX is the best of any game out there. Any combination of AT's make an awesome team. The holy trinity mentality is a moot point on our teams. And I can feel like I'm playing a vital role on any team--because I am (like everyone else is). Or I can just solo for awhile and assert that special individuality that makes all my characters feel special.
