What do you like about the Current CoH PvP Experience (2-28-11)
What was your favorite thing about pre-I13 PvP? (3-11-11)

In contrast, the last post by a redname addressing base development was in October of 2009 by Sunstorm.

And the once upon a time mentioned Base Art thread (in July, last year) never appeared.

    Monster Tuesday

No offense, LSK, but Hami is also often run on Wednesdays... it was just a suggestion.

For a once a month event, it seems like one would want a less conflicting time slot.

    Monster Tuesday

    Welcome to the forums!
    And specifically, welcome to Justice.

Just a thought, I know there are several Justice folks who run their tanks for a regular event on Tuesdays (even on other servers).

I also know that "Brutal Mondays" are the first Monday of each month; but if you are just running your event once a month as well, why not take the second Monday & call it "Monster Monday"?

    Just a thought.

Oh, and before I forget.... required reading (be sure to take note of the start date on that)

Going by what they've done with the CoP (using the raid 'porter for it), I have serious doubts on the future of base raids.

The CoP was their "test" for the new "raid" (incarnate) content that they were working on. Personally, I think they should have paid closer attention to the data on the CoP. It was run quite a bit in the beginning, but quickly fell off in popularity. IMO, that should have been a BIG CLUE.

Nevertheless, it is obvious that the Devs have charted a course, and intend to stick to it. They are focused on incarnate content for the foreseeable future.

As for me, I am refusing to participate in it. I'll just chill out here in my little dinghy, thanks.

Wow.... 11 hours later and no input whatsoever?

Did I do something horrendous enough to end up on everyone's ignore list?

    I showered... honest!

    Crash on log out

This is a problem that's been going on intermitantly for the last month-ish.

When I quit to character select or login screen, the timer will count down, then the game will freeze. I'm sitting there looking at the timer that says "0", and nothing happens.

Since I play in windowed mode, I've been able to close the window and reboot the game. When I do, the login screen invariably tells me that my account is still logged on.

    Last night was extra special.
I was not able to get back into the game at all. I literally had to reboot my computer.
Then, when I finally got to rebooting the game, my account was still marked as "logged on".

I was not the only one to have this issue last night.
My Hubby and another friend who we were meeting in the game both had the same issue. We all ended up rebooting our systems just to get back into the game, when all we wanted to do was switch characters.

Any idea what's going on here?

Which I actually appreciate, having just moved a few more alts to Champ.
I was invited to BMT some time ago, and though I don't often "speak up" in it, I do keep an eye on it. However, "variety is the spice of life", so having access to another channel would not be a bad thing.

This was actually somethin' I was tryin' to have run down with the Ocho before he moved on to different pastures. Unfortunately, it didn't pan out.
There is already a /command for doing that, and it is broken. Go figure.
The work around that I've seen on other severs is klunky, but it does do the trick... Create a new channel (Champ2011, or some such), and give the current and active players a month or so to switch over, leaving the inactives behind (the MOTD for the old channel can re-direct to the new channel).

    Yes, it's klunky
    Yes, it's a PITA
    But sometimes, change is good.

  8. My grandfather served in WWII, as did several of my grand-uncles.
My father, though he did not serve, lost several childhood friends in Vietnam.
I am named after the sister of one of those friends.

In their memory, we celebrate our freedoms.

  9. It seems to me that you are looking for the balance between concept and gameplay.

They don't always necessarily go hand in hand.

I started a homage character from one of my favorite book series as a concept. I ended up rebuilding her 3 times before I even got her to lvl 50. It was a challenge to learn how to play the power combo I'd chosen for her, but I pushed through my frustrations and she ended up being my main toon.

I've also started other characters for their powersets, and created stories as flavor after the fact. Oddly, I have two characters with exact same powersets, but very different stories.. and I find myself gravitating toward one over the other. *shrug* Honestly can't explain that one.

It seems to me that you enjoy the visuals (costumes, stories), but you get hung up with the gameplay... especially 'round lvl 20.

In terms of gameplay, the mid levels are always the toughest. But honestly, I find that true for most games, not just CoH. You need to find the perseverance to push through those mid-levels. The awesome thing about CoH is, they give you some extra tools to help ya out:
    You can respec
You can have 3 separate builds for your characters
You can customize your difficulty levels to suit your goals or moods
You now get FREE FITNESS (health/stamina) at level... err... 4? 6?... real early.
If you want that OMG I AM KICKIN' SERIOUS BUTT feeling, you gotta work through the mid-levels, get those higher tier powers, shoot for the moon (oh, wait... no moon zone)... ya get the picture.

You say you keep coming back... There must be a reason for it.
    Don't give up.

I'd like to add that, although there is nothing specifically against asking for personal financial assistance in the Forum Rules, it seems rather inappropriate.

  11. Ahh... I did not realize folks have been seeing this since i20 release. Very interesting.

As I said, I've never seen it before today during the event.

HOWEVER, since crashing has been mentioned, I have crashed upon exiting the game several times since i20. I figured that had to be something they are aware of by now.

    .
  12. While, technically, you probably could have gone to a less populated zone and experienced no problems, most folks were naturally draw to wherever they could find the action. For the most part, the lag was most prominent where there was a high concentration of players - which is to be expected...

What DID catch me by surprise, was the pigg file crash that I experienced.

    .
  13. In Atlas, 'round 6:20 PST

    Got this crash notice:

    ./piggs/fonts.pigg: Corrupt pig file detected
    Read failed for file: fonts/gulim.ttc
    -1

Your data might be corrupt, please run the patcher and try again

I have never seen it before... just thought I'd mention it.

    .
  14. Put me down as yet another vote to do something with HASTEN (or the entire speed pool).

The "firey" fists just look horrendous, and completely ruins the look of a character (unless the character is built around it).

I would rather see something like a blur-type aura... a blurred shadow or ghost image that blurs with the character's movements. Isn't there something similar for one of the powersets?

Anyway... something needs to be done with that atrocity.

    .
  15. Customization is huge for me.
Not only with character creation, but with base editing.
OMG, when I discovered base editing, you could not pry me away with anything... no, not even chocolate.

The second reason I'm still hangin' 'round is the Community.
CoH has THE BEST community, hands down. Yes, we have our spats, but in comparison to other forum communities I've seen... well, there is just NO comparison.

Speaking of Community, this is the only MMO where I have seen the Devs and CR's so involved. And, while I don't always agree with everything they say or do, their involvement does show that they care. I appreciate that.

The game itself is gravy on top of it all.
I love how *generally* kind to the soloist this game is. I don't mind teaming, but I do like to solo as well, and I don't feel penalized for it (mostly).
I love the fact that I don't have to grind for gear. I love crafting, and I even have a soft spot for the market.
I love that I don't feel like I have to create alts just to be mules. I can actually PLAY the alts I create when I'm so inclined.

So, even when I find myself bored, or time restricted, there are still plenty reasons for me to keep hangin' round.

  16. I can't recall when they increased the global channel limit to 12, but I do remember discussion on it. Looking quickly through various patch notes, I found a little hint here

That was one of the i18 notes, so it's been at least that long (if not longer).

With myself and at most three other people, I can consistently remember everyone's name, everyone's conduct and personality and everyone's appearance and power. And four people don't quite give enough of an audience for people to start feeling like they can act stupid in front of a crowd.
I agree with everything you said!
A smaller team also often means that very minimal "leadership" is required, if any. Unless you run into an exceptionally difficult situation, the most "leading" a small team needs might be, "Let's go this way..."

It would have to be set up where these buttons do not exist in the Editor for the New Permission based Room. But for the Editor with permission to edit the entire Base, these Buttons can be quite useful, so removing them completely from the Editor would be a bad move.

    No, not quite...

It's been put forward before, but the hang-up has been that people were saying that (room) edit permissions should be based on globals, which, as I understand it, would be tricky to implement. You have, however, introduced the comparison to the way salvage permissions are now done, which is by SG rank. That is a slightly new spin.

Setting edit permissions for every type of room that currently exists might be a little ambitious, but if there was a new room type specifically set up with editable permission settings.... that way, the permission settings need only be attached to one type of room... That could be a precursor to "private apartments".

I consider Sucker Punch to be more of an aesthetic piece than emotional. Not to say there weren't emotional moments, but they were definitely overwhelmed by the "ooooo shiney".

The difference for me is that the more I mull it over, the more I actually think there is more to the plot of Sucker Punch than what might be readily apparent. I plan to see it again.

To be honest, my SG is the only reason I still play this game. It's inactive, but as the founder, I work on the base all the time, trying new things whenever I get inspired.

...None of the promising features and content is enough to keep my interest. ...In fact, the only time I usually play a toon is when a friend happens to log on. Otherwise I either base build or log off.

Already, I have been trying new games out, looking for one I like...on I enjoy. Before, if I didn't have the money to renew on time, I would scramble to get it. Not I have 2-3 games installed that give me the chance to play online for free.

My love of this game has been slowly dying, and the reason for that is the lack of attention the devs give to the part I enjoy most. Base Building.
While I don't necessarily agree with your entire post, I think these are some fair points.
Without turning this into a whinefest (not convincing!), I'd like to know who else feels similarly.
Is base building truly your primary interest in this game?
