Agreed and I do not believe it could be said any better. I am from Justice. I still PvP and run events there. I still have a bulk of my 50's Justice. I just moved my primary PvP character to Freedom because the time is right and you really can't beat free. However as far as I am concerned you have to fight the best to improve. Freedom has the best. I would be delusional if I did not see that. They have the best Justice PvPers and the best PvPers from all servers here as well.

As for lolfiteclub, anyone can fight that kind of engagement. Anyone can go toe to toe, its just like PvE. Targets are stationary, they don't jump or move around, its just power use 101 and shooting a fish in a barrel. However fighting a moving target, someone who can use all tricks and all tactics available based on their powers, experience and ability, thats challenging and thats actual PvP.
  8. After rereading my previous post, I neglected to mention a few things about pre registration. We take a certain number of pre registered contestants per category (50). Those that pre register are guaranteed spots to be judged and will go first. After that if there is time we will judge Walk-ins. The disparity is far greater this year because so few actually registered.
  9. Hi

We have allowed walkins the past 2 years. We do this specifically due to the fact that such a small percentage of players actually read the forums. The first year we ran this contest we did not allow walkins. The amount of venom that caused made us reconsider. Mind you that year we had a link on the updater so every player saw the information.

As for walkins winning. It would not be fair for us to allow walkins to compete but eliminate them in favor of pre registered individuals even if we felt that their costume was better. If you pre registered you were judged first. This year we had more walkins then pre registered competitors. 48 walkins to 16 pre registered. A 3 to 1 ratio. Last year 59 Registered and 31 walked in.

While I prefer pre registered competitors, walkins allow for everyone that wants to compete, to compete. As for screenshots, we should have them posted soon.

I don't believe this has happened, but there is the opportunity there for something like this to take place, and something you all should take a look at.

I think overall you ran a good contest, I just notice pitfalls such as the whole No Power rule which was not stated in the original post. Its all small stuff that gets blown out of proportion.

FYI, I would make a suggestion of removing that rule for next year outside of Shadowfall and Steamy mist only because of the color customizations that can be done with it, or else not allow the shields to be fair. Conceptual costumes can include anything that is changeable at ICON. Just a thought.
Understood, you are right that someone could enter the contest from another server. There is really no 100% way to eliminate bias if someone wants to work very hard at getting around the precautions we take.

As for the suggestions, there are plenty of revisions we will need to make for next year. Going Rogue will open up alot of options. Power Customization is something we have on the plate. We actually have a few ideas to allow players to showcase powers at next years contest. Basically score costumes then score powers. This is still very much in the air. We will probably go back to only Pre registration because of Heroes being villains and villains being heroes and so on.

Its not a perfect system, and I will be asking for suggestions on how to improve it after the finals.

Just to give some numbers. 41 people pre registered, 72 walked in. I am actually somewhat surprised no one that pre registered won. However pre registration is way down this year. Last year Virtue had 128 Registered and 49 Walkins. By the numbers this year, Non registered competitors have a better chance because there are more of them.

On the account of score sheets. We do not release them. Specifically to protect peoples information and reputation. What does that mean? Well, if someone scored really badly do you think they want us to publicity post about it. If we disclaimed that initially and required pre registration and they had to agree to have their score released then sure. Just a note on the process, the Judges are not from Virtue, the person who tabulated the Judged Scores is not from Virtue and she was not even at the contest that night.

While with every contest someone or many someones are left wondering why they didn't win and I will try to sum it up. Having 3 judges agree numerically on 1 costume is a matter of chance. Different tastes, different styles different people. While thats not much of an explanation, we do it this way to try and be as fair and objective as possible to every contestant.

Did I miss something. As someone who has PvPed on Justice since I-4 (Arena's) Zone from I-6 (CoV) I wont dispute there are good players on Justice, however they have almost all come to Freedom in one way or another. As for the quality of PvPers on Freedom, I have just transfered myself and I will say there are very good PvPers here. Best of luck.

A few things. I transfered my blaster "Old School Gentleman" to Freedom. Already hit RV, good times. I do have to say I haven't had that much fun in a zone in a long time. Cant wait to get in the evening.

As for overcrowding causing lag, that is a concern. With free transfers another server could be picked, however plenty of PvPers are already on Freedom and moving may not be in the interest of those parties. Personally I would move if others did.

We will announce the winners on the forums in multiple places. On each server and in the main player events post. Also we will be in contact with the winners directly. We will do everything in our power to get ahold of and notify winners. As HP said, we have local names and global handles of all entrants. Winner announcements will be comming later today
  20. I just wanted to thank everyone that came out tonight. Winners will be announced on Wednesday.

As for the concerns listed in this thread. I could address them point by point, however after reading them for the fourth time, and coming to the same conclusion, no direct explanation would do. We run the event the same way on every server. The rules are the same. We strive to make it as fair as possible. The Judges do not play on the server they are judging to avoid bias. No member of PERC can enter the contest. If some of you do not like the rules, then run a cross server contest yourself. Walk in our shoes and I will support you 100%. I think it would be great to have a Cross Server event to this scale that I might be able to enter.

The point is, we are all volunteers and running this to the best of our ability. If that isn't up to what you want or expect, then prove it can be done better on the same scale.
  21. The schedule looks good to me. I am more then willing to help in any way I can.
