Speaking as a tank who plays in the softcap without external buffs:
Sometimes softcapped defense just isn't enough.
With enough badguys overrunning you, the "lucky shot" factor kicks in and they whittle you down anyhow.
I had this forcibly demonstrated to me on an LGTF at L50 set to 8-man Invincible, in the mission with Glacia and Infernia. I had 3 full groups climbing over my tank while the controller duo on the team ghosted.
I took it. For a while... In the end I was smelling floor. -

Got my Shade from 31 to 38 on Friday. Finished up with an ITF that fell apart in the next to last mission.
One of our defenders had to leave and we had a couple wipes on that damn console. We wound up having a Psi blaster sniping it so he wouldn't pull the bots' aggro. The AVs? No problem. The Cimerorans themselves? No problem. Just the damn meat-grinder console...
By that time it was like 2AM and everyone was fighting to keep from faceplanting into their keyboards.
Didn't get to play during the day Saturday (stupid family reunion!).
Saturday night, I took my BS/Regen scrapper from 1 to 20 in patches during a double-shift at work.
(Had to solo. I get pestered periodically and have to just stop, sometimes for 15-20 minutes. NOT going to ask teammates to put up with that, and I refuse to leech XP that way.)
Came home Sunday afternoon, took a quick nap, and then took my EM/Inv Brute from 3 to 16 (accidentally bypassed the second bank mish because I leveled to 15 in the last paper mission).
Apart from the soloing at work, I actually soloed the entire time. Mostly because when I was in the mood to play a certain toon, everyone else was playing something that didn't mesh level-wise (like wanting to run L40-50 TFs when I'm L37).
And I didn't want to bust out my 50's. If I'm going to grind through a double XP weekend, I'd MUCH rather grind on my lowbies.
Additionally, I did have lowbies I could have played in certain level ranges. But leveling quickly for them isn't what I'm looking for. Both of them are on the "Give me Merits or give me Death" track of hitting as many contacts as possible. And playing a DXP weekend on a toon that I'd have to turn the XP earnings OFF makes about as much sense as bringing your girlfriend with you to a house of ill repute. -

He was one of my first alts. Got him up into the low 30's and fairly nicely frankenslotted during I12 and left him alone for a while. Finally went back to him in i13 and and ran to 50 so fast it felt like PL.
I tend to play him Blapper-style, so he occasionally gets to smell the floor, but the amount of firepower he puts out is just incredible.

Started her up because I kept hearing about how painful and unplayable this combo was. Let's just say that I have yet to feel the pain. -

Understand that you're reading his perspective. It's highly possible that he was the reason the tank couldn't hold aggro in the first place with gauntlet because he was pushing everything out of melee of the tank. Also understand that he is going to try and set himself up as the hero no matter what even if he was the main cause of the team's problems.
While it's POSSIBLE it's not true I think it unlikely.
If the tank had that much of a problem with FB, he'd have said something about it and kicked our OP earlier.

If you've never played the game before, you will probably figure out the train pretty quickly... but Bricks requires, at the easiest, a Wentport and a train. Second easiest is probably Pocket D to Talos to Bricks, but for that one you are in actual danger for some of the run to the train.
Ouro portal to Talos, IP or FF , then train to Bricks.
With Talos, it's a run down the hill.
With IP, you simply cross the street to the train.
With FF, you simply cross the street to the train. The worst is if a sniper has spawned on one of the roofs behind you. -

It's just that, with patrol XP, DXPW loses some of it's special "OMG XPXPXP!" factor.
And funnily enough, with all the jokes (joking or otherwise) about how overcrowded and inaccessible Freedom is during these events, it was some of the lower-pop servers that were having access issues this weekend.
When it bit Protector, I couldn't get in, so I opted to alt out on Freedom...

While Freedom and Virtue weren't maxed out, it did take me FOREVER to log anyone in, which isn't normal for the represented load. I think they took steps to keep them both up come hell or high water this time around. -
Okay, I'm not exactly a huge fan of these boards either.
Something like PHPBB or SMF might have been more flexible for the users, but the community development wonks needed something they could get adapted for their purposes.
I just wish I could get a flat board display again instead of the silly nested boards.
Devs! This feature SHOULD be available in the admin control panel! Turn it on please!
Also, going to have to fart around with the search system a bit to come up with a decent new post search that ONLY grabs the English boards.

One thing I do NOT like is the new board logon schema. A compromise of the board potentially allows someone to dump our logon data. Think about it, what could someone ELSE do with the "new" user logon data you have to provide? -

Logging in, was just on Protector not 30 minutes ago.
Now when I log in I get "can't connect to DB server" or I log in to the server list, click on Protector and get "You must fill out the account and password fields to log into your account!"
HUH!?!?!?
Going to try a reboot and try again. -
