  1. I've poked around a bit on the wiki pages and such for binds, but didn't see any info on button down/up functions.

Basically what I'm looking to do is bind sprint and ninja run to a key so that when I depress the key it toggles one on/off, and when I release the key it toggles the other on/off. I'm not sure of the syntax needed within the bind to do so however... anyone willing to help me out or point out a page that has those functions listed?
  2. I am looking into rolling up a melee character. The idea being to level up for the fun, and have something that can farm well at 50. I was thinking that a softcapped defense character would probably be most promising for something like that.

I already have a 50 SS/WP brute, and he isn't bad at all, just not tickling my fancy at the moment. I've heard all the hoopla about fire/kin and have one in the 20s, but it's just not as fun as getting in there and bringing some SMASH into the fight.

I'm very open to suggestions of AT and power combo. Also open to suggestions of resist based builds if it turns out that's a better option for what I'm looking for. The guidelines being that it is something solo capable, that won't be a complete nightmare to level up and can reach the softcap or close to it without blowing a ridiculous amount of inf to get there. Tanker would be an obvious choice since it has the best base defense numbers I think, but that leaves me with concerns about killing power. Open to Brute/Scrapper/Tanker/SomethingIOverlooked suggestions since I can just switch faction as needed of course.

I had started up a DB/SR scrapper, but it felt a little lackluster in the damage to be honest. Maybe I just didn't give it long enough to really bloom, I mean it's still very low level. It just kinda felt like it had weak output right out of the gates. DB is very nice looking though, and rocks an AOE, 2 cones and the finishing moves. Not sure how it comes out looking in the end for damage output though, anyone have any thoughts for how it compares to others as a farming capable set?

EDIT: Had also considered a **/Nin stalker, but by nature stalkers tend to be very single target based so probably not a good match for what I'm looking for here. Nin just looks like a cool set though. Defense, self heal and utility stuff to boot.
  3. Thanks to everyone for popping into the thread, and thanks to those of you who have played the combo for chiming in. I think this will probably be my next character to work on. I also want to work on a def capped melee character, but I'm not 100% sure what I want to use yet.

One can have all the resistance in the world but the best defense is to not get hit in the first place. Here's how I prioritize the various defensive measures in terms of increasing survivability with 1 being the highest priority.

    1. Defense
    2. -Tohit
    3. Resistance
    4. -Damage
    5. Healing

Now since Dark Miasma only has one +def buff power, -tohit debuffs on enemies is the next best thing in my opinion. You can effectively stack on enough -tohit to mimic the same effect of having softcapped defense. It's the same logic behind why a lot of resistance based brutes/tankers opt to build up their positional/typed defenses as opposed to adding more resistance.

In terms of Thugs and Bots, I actually think of Traps and FF as having better synergy for those primaries. After all, those are the only MM secondaries that can actually softcap the defense of your pets as well as yourself. To me, it's always better to go softcapped defense because it is a more reliable option than -tohit. This is not to say that -tohit doesn't help or is irratic, it's just that it *could* be resisted, especially when you're fighting against AVs and such.

Anyways don't get me wrong, Thermal is a great MM secondary and works quite well with DS. I just personally rank Dark Miasma a tiny bit higher. You should go with what you're comfortable with in the end.
A good post, and I appreciate the response.

The point I was making was that -hit and defense synergize. They specifically complement each other. Soft capping defenses is powerful, but it is also very resource intensive in terms of what you need in your build to do it.

(Purely for example, these numbers are made up) Lets say to reach the soft cap you need to devote 80% of your build resources to that goal (by build resources I mean power selections, slotting and IO set bonuses). This leaves you 20% of your build to do other things for fun or utility.

Now, if you instead choose power sets which have good synergy, they can cover gaps in the other set. Reaching 30% defense is much easier than soft capping, and covering that gap with -tohit is likely much less resource intensive. For instance it might take 50% of your build resources to reach 30% defenses, then another 20% to cover the gaps with -tohit. This leaves you 30% of your build for fun or utility, more than soft capping.

Because of the way defense works (As laid out in this thread) it is exponentially more powerful as you gain more of it (Not technically exponential, but close enough). The more you have, the more valuable it becomes.

Combining resistance and defense is not a bad option per se, but it is not as powerful as a strictly defense based build because of the way defense scales.

Please note I'm not trying to say you're wrong or doing something wrong or anything of the sort, I'm not even saying that combining the two is a bad idea. Just trying to lay out my own train of thought as much for my own clarification as anything else.
  5. Thanks for the response. I'm very comfortable with Sandolphins numpad binds for pet control, so that isn't a huge issue. Ranged pets do seem to love to run into melee, just wanted to get a feel up front for what I was looking at.

Not sure I want to do dark. It has some nice control for sure, great debuffs and such but it's just not good synergy with demons I think. Demons are slightly resist focused with the T2 getting a resist buff it will toss around, while dark debuffs tend to generate -tohit which would synergize well with a +defense set like bots or maybe even thugs with stacked maneuvers or something.

Also trying to find something fun to run as a primary with a /storm MM. The -speed and -hit debuffs could just be a lot of fun I think. I just really like the /storm set thematically. I have a stormy in the teens on hero side that I play every now and again with my kiddo but we both started on red side and prefer to play on that side... so we don't end up on blue very much.
  6. So I'm coming back to the game after a break and probably going to check out demon summoning.

    I have a number of other masterminds (42 bots/traps 37 thugs/FF 32 Merc/Dark 22 Necro/Poison 20 Thugs/TA).

First off, a secondary. I was thinking thermal would be a solid choice here with both an aoe and single heal, nasty debuffs at higher levels and synergy with pet resist shield stacking with castable resist shield. My only qualm there is the tedium of constantly refreshing shields on pets. Been there done that on my thugs/FF and it gets old. If its a good solid choice though I may do it anyways, thermal looks very solid and has a nice toolbox.

Secondly, how squishy are these things? My bots have always been fairly durable but thugs and necro especially seem squishy as hell. If I don't babysit them pretty much constantly they die exceedingly fast.

Tying into that, are they ranged or melee preferred? I've looked over their list of powers and it seems that they have a basic melee and ranged attack, but upgrade powers give them a number of ranged options. Ranged seems to be much better over all for MM than the melee sets. They are just too squishy and have trouble chasing and such sometimes.

    Thanks all for any answers!

    Just exactly so.

When I decided I wanted to learn to make animated gifs I looked up a tutorial and then taught myself on whatever video clips were handy. Some robot chicken, American Dad etc. Have a great one of Stan doing his Booty Clap from the spring break episode. So very, very wrong.

Hah, thanks. It was one of the first ones I did when I was learning to make animated gifs. I've done a few since and I was thinking about switching it up, this one was just here from when I was playing before.

I believe it was my statement on the redside marketplace, in regards to nothing being readily available. As in, shopping in the red market was kinda like punching yourself in the junk Thank god for the market merge!
  9. Thanks! Just got back from a bit of a break, so little details have slipped my mind.
  10. So I have the 12 month badge listed in my characters, and the site says I get access to my choice of one of these powers. I'm just tinkering around with starting up a VEAT, but I don't see these powers listed anywhere and the vet program page doesn't offer any info on how I actually get the power.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

  12. Cleared up through the base and got to the Doppleganger.

When I cleared the longbow around it, it says:

[NPC] Doppleganger: Now you die Zen White Lotus, and I shall assume your role in Lord Nemesis' name. *tink*

Yes it says it twice, and all manner of clicking does absolutely nothing. Time to drop this sucker I guess.

hmm.... the 'Turning' option right below it may cover part of what I described. Whatever. I set these things years ago and don't recall what they do now.
Exactly so. Turning however only has an effect on the keyboard turn speed. I thought there was a command to get a mouselook turn speed higher than 200, but I may be mistaken. Like I said, I've been away from the game for quite some time. Almost a year I think, and I only played for a month or two then.

As far as clicking, for me just getting close (melee range at least) and left clicking the target mostly seems to work. It took me a moment to figure it out the first time, since if I remember correctly the mouse icon doesn't change the way it normally does to indicate an interactive target.
Blue side, level 39. Tip is Wanted Poster with your face. Mission (Vigilante) is to investigate the Longbow Base. Once inside the objectives are to Investigate the Longbow Base and defeat the Doppleganger. I'm logging back in to try it now.

I am fairly sure that I clicked on it in most ways that were possible. It's a katana scrapper so being right up close is second nature, and I was there trying to attack it. When that didn't work I tried deselecting and clicking to be sure it wasn't a tab=targeting bug or something.

Gonna give it another shot and hope it was just a one time bug, stranger things have happened. Thanks all for the responses.

Usually you just have to rescue the target, and any dialogue they've got pops up in a Wall'O Text in the Clues section, where most people simply ignore it.
Interesting... because I tried that. I clicked on it, right clicked on it, tried the "chat" option from the right click context menu even though that made no sense etc. I tried everything I could think of for clicking , attacking with a non targeted aoe etc and got nothing from it. Been playing on another character, so maybe when I go back it will just have been a bugged mission or something. Here's hoping.
  15. I just came back from a long break to check out going rogue and I just cannot set my mouselook as high as I would like it. I seem to remember there being a /command to set your mouselook higher but I can't seem to track it down. Would love to be able to set that around 250 to 275 or something.

I've just started working on taking a hero vigilante and I got a mission that asks me to go into a longbow base and destroy the doppleganger of me that is ruining my rep. I've cleared out the base found the doppleganger, but it is "friendly" and I can't attack it and it won't attack me. It just gives an "invalid target" message. I've reset the mission and gotten the same thing twice. Seems you can't abandon Tip missions either, so that kinda presents a problem. Anyone have any thoughts?

    Go to Redside.

Yeah, slip of the fingers. It was a scrapper, not a stalker.

The point being, it was impromptu. I'm not going to bother crafting a bunch of 20ish recipes for a character I'm not enjoying. If I need to plan weeks+ in advance to buy a couple of bonesnap sets, I probably won't bother.

Calling me lazy and impatient because of an example of doing something fun is a fine way to show you don't know what you're talking about. Crushing impacts, doctored wounds, etc... I place bids, I wait, I got my sets. I have more bids in just to get some more sets into my base storage for the next character I want to get functioning at a higher level.

After playing blue for something around 3 weeks, with zero marketeering (no flipping, buying recipes and reselling IOs etc), and just selling unwanted drops and ticket rolls... I am sitting on something around 220 mil cash. On top of that in my main blue toon I've got some respectable stuff with 3 crushing impact 5 piece sets, 2 doc wounds, lotg 7.5%, steadfast res/def global along with like 10 KB protection IOs on the market or in base storage and a handful of res/def globals sitting there. Pieces of other good sets tossed into base storage in case I want them for other toons.

Stating or implying that I am lazy or incompetent because I enjoy a little impulse buy for a lowbie I am having fun with is just a straw man argument which completely ignores the point being made.

I never said it was sugar and spice. I did say it had enough traffic to support a fun little low level impulse buy without breaking the bank. I was able to buy everything I wanted, ON THE SPOT at reasonable prices. It was fun. Red market can't support that due to lack of supply. That's all I was stating. If you would like to imply I was stating everything is perfect and shiny on blue market, please offer some quote that supports your stance and stop trying to misrepresent what I said.

Now, the following is anecdotal, and I'm sure people will use it as an excuse to rant about how I stole their RAM, kicked their dog and violated their sister (all undoubtedly true, if irrelevant).

I dinged 20 on a new stalker I wanted to check out last night. Using the Ae tickets from some lowbie mish's there I got some bronze rolls. I was able to get nearly 3 mil in SELL IT NAO money (I hadn't bothered to transfer any cash on there yet) and use that to completely IO every single slot in the character (barring rest, brawl etc). Bonesnap sets+frankenslotting in attacks, decimation in my cone, end red/def frankenslotted in my toggles. Everything, top to bottom, done on the spot, no standing bids left to wait, with only the cash made from my leveling ae ticket loot and over a mil leftover.

Now, I grant I did leave a couple salvage bids sit overnight to avoid the price fixing that was happening, but I could have had those pieces on the spot for another 200K or so total cost and still had plenty of pocket change. Every recipe I purchased was between 20 and 23, I didn't compromise on what I wanted level wise.

The point being, red doesn't have the supply to support that kind of fun little impulse splurge for a new toon that turns out to be fun. You're having a great time with your pretty little lowbie and want something shiny for it! No the end of the world, but certainly a weakness in the play experience for red.

Please, return to your regularly scheduled personal attacks, misinterpretations, misrepresentations and pointless flaming.
  19. A great thread with some very good responses, very much appreciated. I did post just after I woke up and was not really clear in that I was primarily looking at scrapperish AT's I guess. As for the other AT's, most of them are just a nightmare until you can get stam anyways, regardless of which side they're on, heh.

At any rate, thanks for the responses, good to see peoples thoughts on the matter... though it didn't every answer the question of dev statements on the matter (mostly stalker specific I guess, or brute lack of regen set!).

    Great responses nonetheless
  20. Not a flame war, not a statement of either side being better...

I am really curious if the devs have ever stated why blue has more end recovery tools than red does? Specifically, I was thinking about tinkering with a stalker. Yay, regeneration, double yay, quick recovery! Nope, shot down. Yay willpower, double yay, quick recovery! Shot down again. Body mastery? Nope, shot down even late in the build. Willpower on brutes not getting quick recovery until 20(I know every WP build gets it at 20, except stalkers, who don't get it at all). No regen set for brutes (I know the higher HP could be problematic, but easily possible to just tweak the numbers in the brute regen set to compensate).

Now, I'm just wondering if the devs have ever told us why this disparity? I'll freely admit I do not like the end management hassle (especially the 10 to 20) and this makes scrapper regen a HUGE draw for me. Knowing I have quick recover there whenever I feel like taking it is a very very big incentive for me to choose that set. Heck, even with quick recovery I'll probably end up taking Stamina down the road, it's just how I enjoy playing.

Not interested in rehashing anything red v blue, or the pros and cons of stamina and end management. I'm just curious if the devs have made any kind of statement why the different approach and lack of proliferation of this specific ability?

  23. So I'm working on a mission for my kids and tossed in a /kin to help them along. The ally works properly, uses the appropriate powers etc.

However, after each fight he pretty much just stands there. They have to come back and run around him a time or to then move forward again or he doesn't follow... just stands there staring into the distance.

Currently he is set to Follow and Fight Defensively. He has debuff main set and /kin secondary and is set to ranged preference. Would setting him to melee preference help? (I logged out before I thought about that possibly so didn't test it yet).

Is this common? I've seen a few other missions with allies and while they sometimes "drop off" and stop following, it doesn't seem to happen almost every fight like it does with this one. Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated.
