Quote:Oh don't get me wrong, I'd love a towel/blanket tied around the neck as a cape option. It's just not any more or less "natural" than a well-made one.Sure! "Unprofessional" is a motif for heroes all the time and as our culture moves into a fascination with being able to identify more and more with heroes, this is a totally viable path.
Quote:Huh. I thought it was canon. I'll see if I can find something to back myself up. Until then, I'll consider myself CORRECTED.
EDIT: The actual text:
Quote:You aren't 'super' at all; your amazing talents come from intense training and innate abilities. You might have been driven to physical excellence by some all-encompassing desire for perfection or revenge, or perhaps you are not human at all, and possess powers natural to your race. With your natural origin you have to rely on your cunning and skill. This origin will give you access to Throwing Knives. This attack has a very short range and deals minor Lethal damage, as well as inflicting additional Damage over Time. -
Quote:So not "natural", but "cheap/crappy".Gladly!
Cape:
I would want it to look like something that a person could make in their home with their own resources. If Kick-*** made a cape or something. It would have the shape and size of the traditional rectangular cape, but extremely subtle recurring patterns invoke recollections of the type of cloth one could buy in a store.
Quote:Aura:
Subtle. Subtlety is key. I think what I'd want to do with this one is less based off of "Reality" and more based on how people
Faint sparkles and stars. Not like the stars we have now, no. More infrequent. Hecks, remake any of the other auras but more infrequent or subtle. An Earth-born natural hero is the most understated of heroes. Like Batman and Daredevil, there's the recurring implication that they are weaker than other heroes but compensate through something extraordinary. Batman uses his brains, whereas Daredevil's just really really well trained (His super-senses were retconned into "Not super powers, he just practices a lot" during the original Frank Miller run). Any auras that emphasize that are a win with me.
Now if you want a "teeth-sparkle" (gleaming teeth) or "eye sparkle" (twinkle in the eye), we can talk...
Quote:It should also be noted that when one says Natural, they don't mean "Earth-born mortal with no powers and will never earn any ever". They mean natural for that species. Superman is a natural hero. So is Starfire. Once you keep this in mind, the possibilities open up vastly. Simply saying "Batman is natural and has no aura" limits things far too much. -
Quote:At this point, the posts replying to/mocking/arguing with far outnumber the (mostly simply stated) posts stating "no thanks/will not buy".I admit, I am enjoying the histrionics surrounding the notion that the devs are making TOO MUCH STUFF. Who would have thought gamers would complain about a consistent schedule of new options and shinies?
Which "side", exactly, are the "histrionics" occurring on? -
Honestly, I expect the capes to look batter when people like bAss_ackwards [and at the danger of sounding like I'm tooting my own horn... me] get their hands on them. No disrespect to the devs, but the very best costumes I've seen are player-created.

Quote:Price is a tad higher than I would have expected ($7.99). However, it's not so far out of line that it's a no go for me. At $.67 per "item", it's a far better value than the PP (especially because I find the type of items more useful/valuable).To answer some questions:
Price
The City of Heroes Origins Pack will retail for $9.99 /€ 8.99 /£5.99.
When
November 2nd does sound like a good day. I think November 3rd is a better date though.
The Capes
It may not be obvious in the trailer, but the Impervium Mantle cape is Ultra-moded. The art team did some miraculous things to make that happen.
Finally, as Ocho noted, these are themed. Your Technology Origin Praetorian Robot Corrupter is free to runaround with the Autumnal Cape and Bio Plasma aura, starting at Level 1.
Nov 3rd, huh?
<marks calendar>
I thought that cape looked extra-shiny.
As I would have expected, but confirmation is always appreciated. -
Quote:5 capes and 10 auras. While i love the idea of new additions to the game, be it in form of boosters or not.
I just feel like the last two been kinda "meh" all in all. 8 emotes, and now we get 5 capes and 5 auras.
Essentially twice as much "stuff" as in the PP. -
Quote:Johnny,
1) These packs feel like they coming way too often now. After the Party Pack debacle they shouldn't really have been thinking about one until the new year, and they shouldn't have done one so soon after a major expansion to begin with.
Before the PP came out, WW had already announced that there would be 2 new pack announcements by the end of the month. Well... that was August, so they missed the mark by just a weee bit, but this does not come as a surprise. I suspect that the reaction to the PP at least partially contributed to the delay, but that's strictly speculation. -

Quote:And what, exactly, would a "natural" aura be?Bah. Nature but not Natural?
That sucks!
Most of my characters are Natural. And have nothing to do with Nature.
I'm not going to debate the PP's merits here (that's been done to death), but unlike the PP I will be purchasing this (provided the price is not out of whack).
Most of the capes are quite nice, but it's the Atomic Aura and the two magic ones that seal the deal for me. I'm assuming all auras are fully tint-able? -
Quote:Agreed. These are pretty cool. I'll probably get a few of them.
It's too bad they decided to cut the ones for Desdemona off at the knees - for some reason that bothers me.
Not a bad idea overall...
Though, if there's an option to order one like this:
... with a side-order of Avatea, I suspect it will sell like hot-cakes. -
Gotcha. So the boost from SP does affect all (non-temp-power) attacks, not just KM attacks. I thought that was the case, but wasn't sure.
-
Lord_Cyclones, much of what you posted mirrors my thinking in taking this powerset combo. Thanks for the extensive feedback, it's always good to have some confirmation/validation.
Silas, thank you for the specific build advice and play-experience. Again, much of my thinking, based on my understanding of the sets (and some beta playtime), is mirrored in your post. [Also like the look of the toon]
A few thoughts/questions:
1) Normally, I like to IO for some healthy +dam for my scrappers, but I'm guessing that is less important here compared to other scrappers.
2) With /shield providing some s/l resist and +HP, does it make sense to slot for that and regen (after def, rech, and rec)?
3) What APPs or PPPs would you recommend?
4)Quote:Can you get stacked PS? In other words, can I have 2 instances of the power running with up to 5 damage stacks each?Crit-recharge PS is really, really good. There is nothing quite like hitting PS, building up a 5-stack of the buff, hitting Concentrated Strike and having PS instantly recharge. -
I believe he got some kind of prize, but I'm not sure.

I'm thinking about taking a low-level KM/Shield scrapper, getting him to 50 and making him my new main on my new server (Freedom) in preparation for the incarnate slot/content. I like the low-level play of this combo (and have fallen in love with the character's look). I'm fine if it's not "the best combo", but also don't want it to be one of the weaker ones.
I'd love to hear some thoughts: Pros/cons, "make sure you take this", "make sure you don't do this", damage output, survivability, etc. -
Quote:This kind of thing happens at least once per booster pack with me. You'd think I was paid by Paragon the way I market the things to my SG mates. One of them, who had been away from the game for a while (before I bought her GR) got 2 boosters in the last week after I showed of costumes and powers.sort of on-topic, I sold a copy of the Mutant pack to a teammate last night because he loved the Organic Armor boots my fire blaster was sporting so much he had to have them for his earth controller.

Quote:According to WW (IIRC), the Well of Furies is one way of becoming an Incarnate. During the Alpha Slot unlock arc, you will learn "what it means to be an incarnate".I have a few questions:
1) Incarnates, I think the idea of an Incarnate has changed over the years. Before it was a person drank from the Well of the Furies and was endowed with the power of a pantheon, like Donald Blake who can become Thor. I guess that has changed? So what is an Incarnate exactly?
Quote:2) What is that off line option mean? I am kinda feeling lost on how being able to take my character offline will be beneficial. -
Quote:While you can pick up some crowd response (including my "no you don't") in the videos, when he claims we "get screwed" or "lose slots", the actual response was a bit louder/more widespread than the video gives the impression.Indeed. When I viewed the panel video I almost laughed at the guy who really wanted to get into an argument that people are losing slots because of Inherent Fitness, but I didn't. I'm sure he meant well.
We were on the verge of a ful-blown back 'n forth, and someone was gonna be seriously outnumbered. -
Quote:Always a bit odd to see myself on video.I got my vids up now.

Hmmmm... I really do talk with my hands more than I realized... -
Quote:WW was very clear on this. You can run the new TFs without a slotted alpha-slot. However, she said when she did so, she died horribly and repeatedly. I suspect top-line IO builds can probably do so, but all others need not apply, so to speak. So Alpha Slot is only highly recomended for Apex's TF? Should make a few people happy.

The only time-table info given was that I19 beta starts "next week", which, given it was said Sat, might mean "this week". I'm almost 100% positive that's closed beta.

Quote:I really enjoyed that conversation with David (and you). It was really fun picking his brain and getting a feel for what he wants to do, and which of my ideas are more (or less) feasible than others. He could not have been nicer.... joined in on a great conversation with Hallowed and David...
For anyone familiar with the term "players' coach", I'd say the term "players' dev" applies to David very well.
I wish I'd had more time to chat with Avatea. Even nicer than I expected, and I only got to scratch the surface of some interesting topics with her. She's the kind of person (intelligent, nice and well-traveled) that I could spend hours talking to. I tried not to hog her attention for too long though.
I think the longest conversations I had were with Ghost Falcon (with and without Abraxxus [sp?] and his friend [I'm, so bad with names]). He and I butted heads a bit, but I got the impression that he likes a good debate, and did listen to my points, even when he disagreed. I certainly got some unique insight from him, and would love to revisit some of those items in the future, when there is more information. Hell, I'll even admit I'm wrong, if the data shows it.
I missed WW [insert short joke here] until just before she left for the night, so I didn't get much of a chance to get to know her. She seemed quite nice though.
Did not see Mishi, but pegged Phillygirl on first guess, and had fun talking to/dancing with her. Also met an assortment of other players, all of whom were very friendly, but I'm so bad with names...
Apparently, whoever was on "door duty" when I came in was not with it, as I didn't get raffle tickets, or drink tickets (so the night was probably a good bit more expensive for me that others). But I wasn't expecting either, so I can't cry foul over something I never thought I'd get in the first place.
Really enjoyed the M&G, and the panel the next day. I hope I'll have an opportunity to attend another one. -
Quote:This is ideally the general approach I'd like to see in the game for all/most issues.Agreed! In an ideal world where resources were readily available I would strive to give something new, something converted from current NPC factions and something upgraded from old costume bits. A three pronged attack. Get everyone something each Issue and chip away at the pile of awesome out there.
1) At least 1 new costume set, or 2-3 assorted parts
2) At least 1 "converted" NPC costume set, or 2-3 assorted parts
3) At least 1 updated legacy set, or 2-3 parts
4) At least 1 new story arc per side (blue, red, Praetorian)
5) At least 1 revamped story arc per side (blue, red)
6) At least 1-3 new base items
7) At least 1-3 base items adapted from in-game items
8) At least 1 new emote
9) Something unique
Now, dependent upon the scope/scale of #9, I can definitely see dropping some of the above items due to resource requirements, but I think this is a good "give everybody a little something" formula.
Please note: I have no idea how feasible the above list is from a time/resource perspective. This is an "in an ideal situation" list. -
