well - and 4 slot stamina builds, don't forget Performance shifter
4 slot stamina + conserve power + 4 slot physical perfection
and a cherry on top. -
Maybe if they wanted to make the game more challenging they should give the bad guys inspirations.
----Example .....
-Archon Rossi
"what this blaster is softcapped?!"
*eats 3 yellows and 3 reds*
"Muhahaa! eat bullet death, squishy!" -
and a pony!
-
what, no recovery bonus?
What kind of God Mode is this? -
Quote:I agree - this is why I asked about new power poolsWell, on a number of characters I honestly don't know what I would sub in for the three extra powers. Saying that, /sr scrappers can now easily fit in a travel power.
of course /Sr scrappers in most cases wont need a travel -- Quickness+Sprint+swift+hurdle+ninja run
---
It will be great to get rid of the *gasp* *gasp* *gasp* no endurance *gasp* you suffer from 8 to 20.
----
anyway its an interesting change -- presence pool here I come? -
Wouldn't it have just been easier to increase
- Base recovery
- Base Regeneration
- Base Run Speed
- Base Jump Speed/Height
And then if people still wanted fitness they could choose to have it.
-----
Since fitness is going to be "gone" more or less, will we get more pools to choose from for varieties sake? -
Quote:(I just picked this version of the same sentiment by several posters- because I liked it best)
In multi-billion influence min/max builds, sure. That's where a lot of the vocal forum population spends their time, and I was one of the people complaining. But it's where almost nobody on average spends their time, so borders on irrelevant to the game overall.
I wonder at this point of view in general.
The game seems set up around people taking advantage of Inventions, they are your ultimate rewards for Task Forces - for Story Arcs, etc. They have missions to teach you the system, the whole in game economy is built around inventions. Random Recipe and Salvage drops, and so on.
Obviously the idea is that eventually players will use them more. Not that players will use them less.
Yet there is this contention that a full IO build is something only a tiny group of players aspire to.
Isn't that a curious thing? Is the game so easy that people dont "need" IO's? Or the in game information isn't clear enough (Maybe because its all text in a decreasingly text based gaming culture) ?
While I can fully understand the Idea of not balancing the game, or powersets around IO's... Wouldn't ideally it be balanced around both Casual AND "Elite" builds.
By way of example - If Elude in this case had +regen instead of +recovery, with no other changes ...
Wouldn't it then benefit BOTH the SO builds AND the IO Softcap builds? -
And yet there was a recent thread in this forum subsection where posters were complaining that the ability of other sets to Softcap with IOs (most notably /Shield) steals much of /SR's thunder.
-
Quote:Interesting statement. One of the key design problems is that the developers cannot balance the entire game or a single power-set against a semi-common IO buff build.
I think it would be more accurate to say the developers in COH's case "choose not to"
Surely they "could" balance the game around the gear (IOs) available in the game. Nearly every other MMO and RPG type game does after all.
I am not necessarily arguing they should but they definitely could. -
Quote:InterestingBecause the majority of the player base has no idea what "softcap" even means.
I am not so sure I agree. The 45% defense advice gets thrown around in the game quite a bit, even in PUGs
If you are playing /SR over a certain level is a common question for people to ask you if you are "soft-capped yet"?
Maybe you all underestimate how many readers you have. -
In the previous post I was assuming "soft-capped" defense prior to the tier 9 comparison. Since that is what most /SR people would go for. And the advice was given earlier in the thread.
Taking that into account, in those cases as described above, unless you are fighting something with "+ to-hit" All of those other powers would help you more.
Why would you say most /SRs are not soft-capped? You can soft-cap /SR with a very minimal investment. -
Doesn't look very competitive against something like "One with Shield", "Overload", "Hibernate"
Any of The other defense set teir 9's would help you more than Elude. -
sounds like Elude has gotten long in the tooth and should get rebalanced.
-
If you are soft-capped will Elude help if you run into PVE baddies with "To Hit" Buffs?
And if it helps, how much? How much +To Hit would you be effectively soft-capped to if you had 90 or 115 defense. -
Maybe being softcapped is counter productive for /FA farming
ROTP is a pretty good AOE
Srsly though - if you used Soul Mastery/Shadow meld+Parry softcap to melee/lethal wouldn't be hard even with SOs
Same Dark Concept - less filling -
I like the idea of boosting slow resist. You don't feel very super-reflexy when you are moving like Captain Molasses
It would also make it easier to skip boxing-tough, which seems almost mandatory now due to the +3% defense unique.
---
Figure out some way to give Scrappers the Brute power progression order. Since the most annoying part of the set is the AOE defense coming in so late.
---
Figure out some way to make elude useful. Add resistance, or regen, +damage or +recharge, or something. A teir 9 "god mode" being the most skipable power is stupid. -
Quote:and none seem to "move" well with the other powersWhile there are already some punches in the alternate animations, the animations for them don't scream "highly trained martial artist" to me (iirc they use the same wild - and unbalanced - swings as the alternate Super Strength animations).
For example, when throwing the Crippling axe punch it seems like you stop kicking, take a break for a bit, and then almost punch only to say "haha made you flinch"
The brawl power looks better.
Why cant we get karate chops, etc? -
Some of these are similar to other ideas posted above - but here's things that might be neat.
- A flamethrower for fire blast, or firebombs.
- A freeze raygun for Ice blast
- Throwing Grenades might work for energy blast
- A big super megaphone for Sonic Blast
- Staff animations instead of kicks and punches for Martial Arts
- The entire archery set replaceable by throwing stars or knives
- Grenades that replace Trick Arrow powers
- Combat Jumping that made you do flips and fancy acrobatic moves
- More dramatic dodge animations for Super reflexes some of the time when attacked and missed.
- Torch/Blow Torch for fire melee
- more catlike claw animations
- Make the boxing Jab look more like brawl
- fix crippling axe kick .. please. (the crippling axe punch isnt so great either)
- A bag for dropping caltrops from
- Super Sprint alternates : Horses, Motor Cycles, Small Cars, Lightning Bolt, Roller Skates
- Flight Alternates: Jet Packs, Flying Horse, Griffin, Dragon, turn into a floating mist
- Super Jump alternates: Jet Pack, Giant Springs on your boots
-
Change it so that when a female character uses most weapon sets or the shield set that she doesnt run like a male character.
Compare for example how a female character runs using Katana to Broad Sword and you will see what I mean.
Or Dual Pistols (at least from Thugs) compared to Assault Rifle. -
As I mentioned I don't even need to see my costume .. a black opaque shadow would be preferable for me than to be very hard to see on my own screen.
The mostly see through is just a game effect anyway - its not what a real "invisible" person would look like.
Otherwise even an enemy with bad vision like mine could just squint and shoot you between the slightly visible lines. -
Basically in the spirit of allowing you to shut of auras and other noisy visual effects ..
I would like to be able to reduce how see through my character is when hidden. It would not necessarily have to be that way for everyone that sees that toon, just for me on my screen.
A slider would be ideal .. you could pick between 0% transparent and maybe 90% transparent (which I would claim is the default)
Or anything else they could cook up.
A /slash command would be fine with me, even if I had to enter it every time I logged in. Or some other way such as power customization or a graphics setting.
As it is my character is so see through it strains my eyes. But I also figure a lot of people might not want to be see through for game-play or thematic reasons. -
ahh .. bla
Thank you for trying to help!
I don't want to do anything that breaks any rules. So I guess it is a suggestion after all.
I guess I figured with all these travel power stealth IO's, people not wanting to be barely visible see-through would be pretty common. -
Thank you for your response,
Your forum id probably sums up the problem as well as anything
S.Quint
as in I need to squint, I would prefer not to. It is not a matter of whether I personally like/appreciate the effect or not.
I was referred here since this section has more technical fixes. I really would just need my client to stop rendering my character as transparent if that is possible. -
Hello,
I have trouble making out my character when "invisible" during play.
I would be fine with 100% visible all the time, or some other way to be less see-through for contrast's sake (and for the sake of eye strain)
I am perfectly okay with being totally see through on other people's screen, or not, whichever is fine.
I am perfectly okay with no players being invisible on my screen, if that is the byproduct. Or they can, its all good.
I would just like for my character to be rendered more visibly/ less transparently in some fashion on my screen during invisible times. -
Quote:thank you - I will try that. You *might* try posting in the Tech Issues & Bugs section - see if some of those hard-core tech-heads might be able to come up with some kinda client-side tweak for you.
Also, thanks to everyone who responded whether they got what I meant or not.
