  1. TY, Vivace and Saga! That was very kind of you. I know it was a shot in the dark, but I didn't know how else to find the person. I'll try sending them a /tell right now.
  2. If you would be willing, I would like to discuss "buying" the name from you, in some form or another. I would REALLY like to port over my Doubt toon from another server, but the name is tied up already; and I can't really change the name, as it is part and parcel of the character concept.

    Update the Bases

How about the Rikti? They seem like the logical choice to infiltrate a base:

Using their technology, they randomly scan TP frequencies, hoping to find an unguarded TP pad (your base's) to use as a staging ground to covertly infiltrate the city and set up new strongholds. Fortunately, heroes are on hand to fight them off and send them packing back to the mothership (number/level of Rikti based on heroes currently in the base - similar to starting a mish).

This would all be predecated on the SG allowing raids, of course. Some of us just want to relax and read a book, for a change.
  4. Actually, Sig, I have gotten a few to agree with me, some have disagreed (one seems to just want to be contrary), and a few have actually boosted my rep because of this thread. Regardless, that isn't why I started it. I started it because I wanted to bring something to peoples' attention. I am sorry that doesn't meet with your approval, but as long as you hold to the ideal that you are free to say as you please, then I will abide by that convention as well.
  5. I thought "Suggestions and Ideas" was the suitable place for the topic. I had an idea that I wanted to share, suggesting that we all take an extra moment when posting and consider the person's feelings before we speak. As I said I don't post very often, so if it is misplaced blame it on simple ignorance of board customs.
  6. I would like to point out that the F-Bomb was a joke. I'm sure we all know how the phrase actually reads - nobody says it with that sort of language. I was exaggerating to make my point - that there is a polite way and an impolite way to say something, even if you are offering criticism.

Hey, and I got one "thumbs up" and one "thumbs down"! Still in the red! LOL

Just to clarify - I'm in no way trolling. I am very serious about this. I really feel that there is a lot of improvement that can be accomplished here. I know that many are going to take offense (Who is this nobody with the 14 posts telling ME how to behave?) but I hope the intent of the post isn't lost.

I would like to ask: Why would a Mod be involved? I haven't been aggressive or nasty. I have spoken my mind in an attempt to point out what I feel is a problem.
  7. That's cute. Somebody gave me negative rep. I'm sure I know who it is, but I won't mention any names here. Regardless, it's because they were upset because I didn't like the arrogant attitude they were sporting when they posted.

I've been reading thru the forums recently, looking for interesting info, and I keep encountering the same sort of unpleasantness - this forum is populated with quite a few nasty fellows. Don't get me wrong: there are MANY people who seem to be nothing but friendly and helpful and for that I say "thank you," and many more are simply conversing, but there are some real jerks out there who seem to be consistently nasty in their postings.

In the interest of improving relationships, I would like to share something my mother always said, "If you can't say something nice, then just shut the **** up." I'm not saying you shouldn't give constructive criticism, or even disagree wholeheartedly with the opinions of another, but you can do these things TACTFULLY. The use of put-downs, condescending monikers and out-and-out rudeness is unnecessary and, frankly, unimaginative. If you TRULY feel that you cannot make a comment without being nasty -THEN DON'T MAKE THE COMMENT. Is is going to sour your day because you couldn't put the newbie down for asking a ridiculously simple question that anyone should know the answer to? Is it that important to belittle others?

That being said, go ahead and give me the negative rep points. It really doesn't affect me in the slightest. As I said before, I rarely go on these boards (mostly because of the negativity), so it isn't going to change anything for me. Actually, I might even think of it as a badge of honor. I try to ask civil questions (after I have first tried to Search out the answers), I try to be positive and polite, and I expect the same of others. The only people who are going to bother to take pot-shots at me for this are the jerks, and it will brighten my day a little to know that I irritated some moron.

    Love, baby - that's where it's at...
  8. That's part of the problem. I had considered the "quit-join-place-quit-join" scenario, but 2 things make it difficult:

    1) The toon with the generator is my Leader and I don't want to give up my star.
    2) I'm pretty much the only real live person in my SG. There are technically one or two others, but they haven't played in QUITE some time. I don't 'bump' them just to avoid prestige loss.

Guess I'm just stuck lugging this generator around.
  9. Is it possible to place a crafted item inside someone else's base? I accidentally crafted 2 power plants and it seems a waste to not use it somehow. I was thinking maybe it would be possible if my base and the other person's base were in a coalition. Anyone tried this?

Aaaaaaaaannd, there it is. BBQ Pork: this is the vitriol I was talking about.

Sigium: If you don't like the idea, fine. Leave the smart-*** commentary at the door. BTW, while I may only have a few posts to this forum - mostly due to attitudes like yours - compared to your lordly number, I'm far from your junior. In fact, according to your bio I'm old enough to be your father. So, watch the condescension, sonny.

That being said, you do have a point. How about this: images would have to be uploaded and vetted before passing into the game system? A turn-around time of 48 hours would give the devs (or more likely some poor intern) a chance to scan thru the images and make sure everything was on the up-and-up. Tack on a charge of 50 cents (?) for each image to absorb costs and minimize tomfoolery. Also, adult content doesn't automatically equate with lawsuits. SecondLife is FULL of sex and nudity of the most aggressive nature and last I checked (earlier today) they were still up and running.

As to porn and bad taste - these images would be inside a base, not open to viewing by the public. If you are offended by the images that the Leader decides to use to decorate his base - quit the group. You could also consider talking to him about it like an adult. Just an idea.

For copyright and trademark violations - same rules as for character concepts: if they catch you, the whiteboard gets deleted (without any refund on the initial purchase price as a punishment?). I would assume there would be some form of general "rules acceptance" screen the Builder would have to click on, just like when you start up and log on the game itself. This would protect the company from any liability.

Anyway, we are again talking about a space that is only available to people in the same SG. Presuming they have somewhat similar tastes/outlooks: why would they be offended or rat you out?
  12. I hope this hasn't been discussed before (tho I'm sure it has) - I promise, I did Search the forums but couldn't find anything like it...

I would love to be able to create original whiteboards for my base. A blank space that can be filled with an uploadable or linkable image for any of a number of uses:

    original wall art
    Great Leader-style portrait
    Base map
    In-game screenshots (greatest victories, etc.)
Information boards (upcoming events, newest recruits, SG rules, etc.)
Even, on a grander scale, used as virtual "wallpaper" to truly customize the walls or to allow different textures/colors on different walls in the same room!

Available to purchase in a few different sizes (poster, portrait and wallsection), they could provide almost unlimited new decorating options for our bases - in much the same way the new upgrade does for our characters' powers.

If there is a way to do this (I am, admittedly, not terribly knowledgable regarding the back-end of this game) I would appreciate a heads up. If there isn't, how many people would find this useful?

*familiar with the less-than-tactful nature of this forum, he closes his eyes, awaiting the first scorching burst of scornful vitriol*
  13. I already have my system locked down as tightly as I can manage (I'm ruthless with malware, et al.) and I was hoping to get a little more performance out of the game. Thank you all for the info.
  14. I want to change the 'priority' setting in Task Manager so that CoH gets more processor time, but it won't seem to allow me. I have changed it from the default "Below Normal" setting several times, but it just goes right back to where it was before. I have used this function on many occasions to 'boost up' a program and have never seen it refuse to work. Is this somehow built into the game itself? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  15. I play infrequently, so forgive a "stupid" question:

I processed tons of salvage into base components (tech material, mystic elements, etc.) to turn into base items later. Now (and I don't know when this happened), the workshops use standard salvage to build my base items - not all these components I have. I found out about turning my components into "brainstorm" credits, which I can then turn BACK into the salvage I started out with in the first place?!?!? My question: is there any other use for these components, other than playing 'ring-around-the-salvage-rosie'?
