I mean, it's a good idea for a game to have 'official' forums, but it is in no way obligatory.
    City of Heroes User Agreement

    Section 2, paragraph 1:
    Quote:
NC Interactive offers Game(s) as massively multiplayer subscription-based comic book hero and villain role-playing game(s) service and fee-based additional features including, without limitation, character slots and skill packs ("Additional Features") (the "Service") accessible through our web site, currently at http://www.cityofheroes.com and http://www.cityofvillains.com (the "Web Site"), as applicable.
The Web Site (note the capitalization) is part of the Service (capitalized again), which is what we pay for.

    Section 2, paragraph 3:
    Quote:
The Web Site is an active part of the Service and any use of the Web Site is governed by the same terms and conditions of this Agreement and the Rules of Conduct. Please note that access to Game(s) user forums, Message Board is tied to your account status.
Which shows that the Message Board (once again capitalized) is part of the Web Site, which in turn is part of the Service. And if you want to get technical, that means we PAY for access to the forums (Section 4(d)).

I'd expect that it wouldn't continue to log me out, though I don't suppose that's technically required for NCsoft to stay true to their word. It does affect access, though, which is convenient enough for this argument since I'm paying for access and not getting it reliably. It's not to the severity where I don't get something at all that I pay for, which is why I'm only bumping a thread rather than climbing the ladder through the tiers of customer support.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt, I checked the Announcements section of the boards, but found no reference to this forum bug. Are you by chance thinking of something some redname may have said in passing? That's not the same as NCsoft formally acknowledging the issue.

I guess it helps to know what you're talking about, huh? *rolleyes*

As part of the service, NCsoft is expected to keep the forums functioning properly. They haven't done so, and haven't made any formal comments on the issue, which says to me that they're ignoring it for whatever reason; hoping we'll deal with it until such a time that they get around to fixing it.

It's a problem, and one that I partake in. And I will continue to pester and be obnoxious until I am certain that it's their problem too.
  5. *Purchases a new white board to make more room for another tally on the DOOOM counter*

The devs are all working on Incarnate stuff, which they have been ever since War Witch was placed in charge of the productive talent. This has been an ongoing situation since before Going Rogue's release, and it will not let up until Issue 20 is released.

Even Issue 19's taking a back seat, truth be told. I have word from someone in I20 beta that as the weeks went by, it was patch after patch to I20 and I19 just kinda sat there to rot. What this tells me is that the big projects they started with Going Rogue aren't done yet, and won't be until Issue 20 hits, which means we won't be hearing much from the devs on the forums until then.

I expect it to return to much the way it used to be at that time.

In the mean time, I KEEP GETTING LOGGED OUT OF THE FORUM
  6. Happened again, I tell you!

  10. ...You're telling me you picked the same two characters and put them in the same spots on the same scenery without ever having seen the one I did?
  11. Looks like this one was ripping off the one I made (complete with my awesome female Villain character), which in turn was ripped off from the original.
  12. Important Information

We've had on-and-off reports about people having the tracker hang at "Retrieving character info" and getting "Operation timed out" without ever being able to send updates to City Info Tracker.

Since Titan Sentinel does not track titles or super group names at this time, it was programmed to download your characters' CIT profile pages and get that information to keep it from getting cleared when updates were sent.

Unfortunately, with the popularity of Titan Sentinel, City Info Tracker can't keep up with it!

The temporary fix was to prevent the tracker from accessing character pages. This should fix the problem of people being unable to track characters online, but the side-effect is that now all character titles and super group names will be cleared when the tracker is used.

Development on City Info Tracker's upgrades are ongoing, so this shouldn't be a problem for very long. We appreciate your patience in the mean time.
  13. Yup, still an issue. I logged in, clicked a link, logged in again...

There wasn't any thought until it was brought up! That's the beauty of feedback: you get all sorts of new ideas that way.

I'll definitely be looking into this, but of course I can't make any promises at this time.

None of the Windows API functions (at least the ones I'm using) trigger fatal errors. GetDC() in particular will return NULL if the value of its parameter is NULL, so if it's crashing there, you can point your finger squarely at WINE.

Making this work under Linux isn't a big priority (and don't get me wrong: I looove Linux), if only because of the concept of jumping through hoops to get the program to work on something that's only pretending to be the supported platform.

  17. Go trap some pirate ghosts in Port Oakes. Bet you haven't done that for a while, so it'll be like new again.

Or roll a Kheldian and do those arcs. They mention Ouroboros and Cimerora of all things, though not by name, and they date way back to, what, Issues 2 to 4?

There's plenty in this game you haven't experienced. Go do that, then ask for more.
  18. Reminds me of the promotional package they did for Mega Man 9. The CD case looked just like an NES cartridge.
  19. "Yet here we are. Alternate dimensions will begin wreaking havoc on this one, spoiling any victory we could ask for over the Coming Storm."

All of your petty squabbles amongst yourselves and your Rikti counterparts must be brought to an end before it reaches its inevitable crescendo
Of course, this was prior to the decision to make a Praetoria invasion, but I like the way they generalized it to just being a threat from alternate dimensions. (-:

At least now we know the Coming Storm originated in THIS dimension.
  20. Hey, this is completely unrelated, so I don't know why I'm posting it, but Titan Network's next project is being written in Java.

That sounds silly to ask. But really, what can I do with this? What do people normally do with this site? What utility do these tools provide?
It's a niche, to be honest. These are some of the bigger reasons people use City Info Tracker:
    • They can keep a log of all their characters for themselves and others to see.
    • They can keep track of their badges and compare with other badge-collecting users (the site features "leaderboards" and the like).
    • They can display to the forums about their online status via dynamic singature and avatar images.
Titan Sentinel specifically also allows players to document their character builds in a quick and easy way, which turns out to be WAY more well-received than I'd expected.

Maybe it's not for you, and that's fine. I'm not too big into tracking myself, to be honest, but I do like seeing how many badges I have compared to other players (I like badges).

At the end of the day, what matters most is if you have fun. There's been a lot of focus on Paragon Wiki and Mids' Hero Designer, but tracking kinda took a back seat for a few years. This is a way to help the tracking scene have more fun.

Don't grow discouraged, though! This isn't all there is, not by a long shot. Titan Network has some other projects in the works that will hopefully strike gold in other niches when they're ready, just like this one has.

  23. Important Update

If the program's working for you, you won't need this, but a problem was uncovered last night that prevented it from operating for a few people. It kept detecting their character as being logged out, which in turn prevented their character from being detected.

Major props to Starlight for poking at his computer for me to help get this solved.

Since I'm releasing a critical update anyway, I took the time to fix the TO export issue, which turns out was a problem for DOs as well. Both have been tested and verified as working.

Version 0.9.1 is available at the download page: http://cit.cohtitan.com/sentinel/
  24. I go to bed and wake up to over 200 downloads. Nice!

Titan Sentinel uses a lot of Windows-specific system calls, so I'm not surprised that it may not work on... well, not-Windows. Even if GetDC() did the trick, I'd honestly be surprised if ReadProcessMemory() works.

This is CIT's fault. When character updates are sent, there are no fields for updating power pool selections. When CIT's upgrades are put in place, however, it will definitely be supported.

Character information is known by the client at all times. That's how it knows what to show when you open the Enhancements screen. Working backwards from there eventually got the information extracted by the tracker.

The tracker defaults to Hero titles if it doesn't know your Alignment, even if it picks up the badges from the chat tabs. It always uses male titles. This is kinda funny sometimes, 'cause if it says "You earned the Ironwoman badge!" in the chat tabs, it might say "Adamant" in the tracker.

It's actually a perk that we can do this, and it's a benefit of using the Build Manifest file. In addition to resolving exact badges from the names or personal info window, this allows side-switchers to track badges on CIT's current iteration by always sending hero badge titles for hero archetypes and vice-versa for villains. CIT's being fixed in this regard, but until then, this is a lifesaver.

Alignment is first checked 30 seconds after you zone in, so if you wait for then you should get the right badge titles to show.

Among other things like minimizing to the system tray instead of the taskbar, this is one of the features on the list for version 1.0.
