  1. If you set rules then you should be willing to enforce them. If you don't plan to enforce them, then the rule is useless to begin with.

If people are harassing others then they should be warned/banned, simple.

    And Santa looks great!
The generic Plot mission had so much potential that it just didn't use. It started with a nice briefing that made most of us chuckle as it was very recognizable and more then a little true. The faction used couldn't have been more generic (5 guesses and remember this was pre 5th column). Then nothing, nothing, nothing, hello the joke is turning thin here, nothing, funny dialogue with generic random hostage followed immediately with the Generic boss who had quite a lot complaining to do.

Perhaps it was a bad draw of the placing of the objectives, but for a humorous meant arc I expect more effort made in between the big jokes. If you got a nice idea, exploit it to the fullest, especially when you only have one mission. use it to make us all grin like idiots.

Right now it felt more like a frustration arc to me and that spoiled my mood a bit.

    *********

The Santa Arc was a nice one. Nothing can improve a Christmas Arc better then the insertion of Zombies. The author made a real effort to create some fun and unique custom zombie faction. Each with bio's and everything. Some were so cute that we almost felt sorry to beat them up and the zombie ragdoll might lead to a scary stalker toon somewhere. This one is fun to play in a team, if alone for the jokes this arc generated in our team.
  3. 1. To avoid having me play an arc, just include Extreme EB's and AV's in it. Or more then one Extreme in bosses, LT's and or minions.

    2. I have a big hatred for a couple of arcs that feature the "no map available" thing. The ruined Atlas is a prime example. If you use it, make sure the objectives are neon lit and marked clearly. If not, I will quit the arc and unless it has been excellent (read 4 or 5 star material) up to that point, I will rate it a 1, else I don't rate at all. I hate that map that much.

    3. Another bad map idea is the find small objective (preferably chained) in a huge outdoor map. Or heaven forbid a defeat all in anything else then a small or medium map. Those things will influence the pleasure I had playing the arc.

    4. Which brings us to defeat alls. Don't, don't don't. For example, today I quit a few arcs because they had inserted defeat all's without making a big effort to explain why. Try to avoid using a defeat all. Let the enemies flee when their boss is down, or blow the thing to smithereens. Or wear as mask.

    5. Big maps with nothing interesting happening except 1 objective.

    6. The lazy mission building. When I click on a glowie, I expect to see interaction text. I expect bio's everywhere, I expect dialogue, I expect that the author tries to avoid inserting 10 mission objectives that are all the same. I expect pop-ups on entering and leaving. Yes, it is a lot of work. But it can make the difference between 4 or 5 stars.

    7. Most of what has been said above do I agree with.

    Ps. What I don't mind.
Bad English. Unless it is truly horrible I don't mind a few errors. The fact that I miss 90% of the errors only helps the authors out.
  4. I am with Eve and FSB here. The tremendous amount of dialogue in clues and text bubbles make this arc not very team friendly. I am afraid I lost sight of the story halfway. The fire imps were a surprise as I had not noticed any clue explaining them. In the end, I felt that I could not rate the arc. Being confused because you are in a team says nothing about the quality of an arc.

I think your arc is more suitable for solo play with a toon that can handle AV's.
  5. Happy Holiday, Doc. Don't worry about the lab, I promiss we clean up afterwards. In pristine condition, honest.
  6. I would like to see a change part of the damage type IO's. With the introduction of Dual Pistols in GR, I would not be surprised if things like that become available.

  8. Grats to minimalist for winning this contest! I will definitely check that arc out soon.

Thank you to Dr Aeon to organize this contest. At the very least it gives us some wonderful arcs to play plus it challenged us to ponder about how to make things work nicely.

To all who had entered an arc. Thank you for your hard work.

If I transfer to Virtue, is the tail obligatory? Or is an occasional Purr considered good enough?

You are wrong. Scarlet Shocker is from the EU side and I understand that the infamous City-Life did have an NA account.
  11. I once transferred a toon from Zukunft to Union and since then have fun whenever i play her as half the dialogue is in German. Time to check out what happens when i transfer a toon from Defiance. I guess even more fun, as my french is abysmal

Edit: Just made this transfer and indeed, everything is nice and English, except everything in the Chatbox which is French.

I really must log this one tonight and enter Pocket D, just to freak the partygoers out there. And not just because of the costume which is freaky enough

Well the Arachnos contacts differ a lot form each other. You got the stern schoolmistress, the tough sergeant, the manager who claims to be your friend, the seer with a tragic past, the you are a cockroach under my shoe and should be glad I allow you to do my bidding one, the well he ain't bad for a copper I suppose. And those are just plain Arachnos Fighting personnel. I am not even counting some of the mad scientists or nasty officials.

I find those distinct enough. And for training, does it really matter if Swan trains you or Arbiter faceless person. Ok, erm bad example.
  13. What Zamuel wrote above is good advice. Every time a map loaded I groaned because it was yet another huge map with more objectives then it is fun to collect/free or beat up. By the end of mission 3, I just wanted to end that arc. I had the same feeling you get when you realize that you are only halfway Possi's TF. As it is now, it is to long. The blue cave map itself is one that a lot of people just ragequit on.

Another problem is that every mission got the same opponent. Winter Horde,Winter Horde and guess what, more Winter Horde. Two hours of beating them up starts to get tedious very soon. You might consider to bring in other factions to add spice.

Last big problem was that you did not use bio's on your customs, objects we searched or allies, hostages and don't forget that you can give the contact a bio as well these days.

The thing I liked best was the way you let that song (which i dont know btw) sound through the whole arc. We were a bit surprised when all mr Humbug said was Ding but once I saw the debriefing it was aha, nice touch.

In short, this arc got some 'large' issues that can 'easily' be remedied to turn it into a fun experience.
  14. DO you intent to check every arc an author has written to see if he got 40- plays total? I would think that a good way to define new author is when nobody on this forum says, hey i know that guy.

    Edit: Woot 2000 posts.

Well the game is rather flexible. You can do Arachnos arcs or never bother with them and just farm heroic MA arcs in mercy town without ever doing one thing for His worshipfullness.

Plus a lot of people like to think they are free of Arachnos influence. Do you really think LR cares? If you want to feel independent that's not a problem because in the end, you will be his anyway. That fake ID could even be the real deal after all.

Anyhow, it would have made some sense if the contact wasn't just getting you a fake ID but an entire fake background and history, with some people set up to lie about you as references and maybe even some plastic surgery.
That's not a bad idea. Not a bad idea at all. I will try to include that as well.
  17. I share your frustration with these awful slopes and that bobsled thing is just a tiny bit better. The one who invented those should be voluntered to be Doctor Creed test subject.
  18. Sounds very interesting indeed. Biggest change would be that you meet inside the mission instead of outside. I would love it even more if it would also mean that you can team with NA and EU at the same team.
  19. I think that the GR thing will be upon us soon and this is your chance to clean up on your main server is the most likely reason. Shame that you can't switch between EU and NA. I would have jumped that gun immediately.

Who knows, I might make a transfer or two.

The vast majority of people playing these arcs (myself included) haven't read nearly enough backstory to just intrinsically understand that. My main complaint was that - no matter WHAT the mission goal is - the player needs to feel like what he/she is doing is commensurate to the reward. I didn't get that from Quid Pro Quo and it diminished what was an otherwise excellent arc.
And that is why I will alter my own arc to make the player appreciate the ID more You helped me improve my arc.

Btw, this isn't a backstory of the game. It is something that you can read in between the lines. I am and so is the author (who got hid ID thing form me if I recall correctly) assuming things here in answer to some of our questions.

    - Why do I not get zapped by those drones.
    - Why do I get access to those Ferries and Black helicopters
    - How come I don't have to sign up wads of papers when I enter Grandville?
    - Why can I buy from those Arbiter stores?

The answer imo could only be that I am tagged somehow with an ID that tells the drones and arbiters to leave me be. So the next question was, now what if my villain is not an Arachnos Flunky? Then you need something to give you access to the same resources, hence the Fake ID.

Oh well, keep up the work

  22. If all you want is to have a headstart with your brute in GR, then play the missions and don't read the dialogue. It's a shame, because the dialogue is rather good compared to the Blue side.

Alternatively you could go to the AE building and do heroic missions with your brute.

But if you hate doing that, to avoid serious problems, start with Kalinda where you end up beating up snakes most of the time. Followed with Mongoose where you rob a villain bank and beat up more snakes.

Then to Port Oakes. Beat up villains and rob a bank (can't be avoided but you are allowed to fail, just start the timer and get out). Then take Verandi as contact. Yes he wants revenge and bad things will happen to those he wants revenge on. But those people are council.

Of to Cap au Diablo and you should be level 10+ at that time.

Edit: Obscure Blade pointed out that even the Vendetti arc has some innocents getting hurt. Even if that man is a filthy traitor to begin, you cannot blame him much from becoming a traitor in the first place. Still betrayal, even with good reason is betrayal.
  23. Hmmm, I think that New Arc sounds like a better category like lJ and FsvB suggested. To avoid entanglement with Dr Aeons challenge and the excellent arcs to be found there, I would suggest to only take arcs published after his deadline.

That said, we could do a best Public Vote for Aeon challengers as well.

Edit: And I must check out Dragon Age you talk about.
  24. I used the ID thing myself as well. It is pretty important considering that you are supposed to come straight out of the ZIG and dumped into Mercy Town. With not much more on you then a soiled costume. A place where you can only leave once you mysteriously convince a few Drones and Guards that you are not to be zapped into oblivion. Normal people have to stand in line, show off their papers at Mercy Island Fortress, the Ferry immigration Service (ever seen that shanty town outside? That could have been you). And the fun doesn't stop there, ever been to Grandville and their immigration lines? The Fake ID helps you there. You can cut lines there and nobody tries to kill you. And every time you talk to an arbiter or a Quartermaster guess what, they want to see ID. Worse they want to see not just any Fake ID, they want to see an ID that is indistinguishable from the real thing. Your $100 Cnd won't give you that. And these police officers are more the kill first, interrogate the corpse later variety. Do you want to bet your live every time you flash your ID?

I assume that normal Destined Ones probably get those from Arachnos themselves by working for Kalinda or a fake one from Burke. Those who fail, end up rioting at Mercy Fortress trying to get home. I used my Fake ID ploy for you working for another organization who can arrange things, change records at the right places and who got the clout to assure that bribed officials stay bribed. Considering how needed those things will be, well worth a few felonies.

However, your review opened my eyes that I need to emphasize the: "You want one thing" more.

    Let us solo TFs

I am against the proposal. Would it hurt me when people on 'dead' servers could solo a tf? It would give us more hard to get recipes and that is nice I guess.

    However,
It would hurt me if people went soloing and farming TF's on any server other then a 'dead' server at the slow hours. It would be harder for me to find teams or even Taskforces. I think there are lots of arcs available that you can solo but a TF should always be a group effort.
