Didn't really see much talking smack in that OP quote, just someone saying he has made mistakes and learned from them. And, really... first impressions making a difference is quite true.
However, Jack has talked smack in some interviews. Though I think most of those were when he was touting Champions Online, and I think he did that just to show how CO was better and different. Still, I didn't take kindly to it. I think he could have touted CO without being down on CoH. I haven't heard anyone at Paragon studios say anything close to what he did about another game in an official interview like he did, and I think that speaks a lot to why I like our current set of devs and Paragon Studios more than him.
I like that he's enthusiastic, that's great... but I don't like how he designs a lot of things or how he sells them. Some of his unpopular decisions at CoH were needed (ED and the like), but how he sold them was terrible. He's so hit or miss on everything that I find myself always distrusting him and not really liking him, either. I'm sure we could have fun chatting about a lot of things as he seems fairly nice, but on games and PR, we're in much different corners. -
Eh, just my own two cents, but I think the marketing kind of stunk for Scott Pilgrim. I had no real clue what the movie was about even after seeing the trailer a few times in commercial breaks. It was kind of a confusing mess, to be honest. I had no clue why there were random colored objects flying all over in some shots, and in others it looked like some teen romantic comedy. Didn't really see a lot about characters or story to involve me at all.
Inception, on the other hand, didn't give everything away but gave enough to intrigue people with its trailers. Plus... the storyline was a lot more universal, even if there are things about the movie that geeks like. Reading about Scott Pilgrim just doesn't intrigue me at all, and I do like "geek" stuff and comics.
Not even sure why Snakes on a Plane is in there. That one seemed more like a random weird movie that Hollywood put out than a real geek culture one (and seriously, is/was anyone that surprised it didn't do well)? I was under the impression that Serenity was a pleasant surprise for critics, etc., even if it wasn't rolling in the dough. Sounded like it did well for a smaller movie.
I dunno... I find myself agreeing with most Cracked articles I read. Am I crazy for that? Or are they just doing that on purpose so we have something to talk about and keep reading their stuff? -
Heck, you can't even be open to suggestions if you are going to run a team. If I say in a channel "anyone feel like a Synapse or a Posi," I might get a response or two, and that's it. If you pick one, however... people respond a lot more... apparently people like to be bossed around.
Anyway, I would highly recommend creating your own teams, unless you see something already going on that you want to join in. It's easy to say what you are up to in the server channels, and then copy and paste an appropriate tell to people using the search feature.
Also, learn to be okay with a non-full team. There'll be nights where you can find eight people, easy. Other times, you have a four man team, or even three. You can still have fun and get stuff done for regular missions. And you may actually have more people come in as you go. -
...
Ummmm, yeah. For that, I think that could easily get you reported for being bothersome and griefing, and even if it isn't, you're still stealing defeats from some lowbie character. Not exactly the greatest thing to be doing.
And man, if you are paying in game currency to make other people do that for you... you have too much inf. Send some my way!
I'll have to debate and see if I want to do this again. I liked helping talnar out with a Master ITF run, but I know I have limited time/weird hours that might be hard to coordinate with, too. -
Go to the Welcome to Victory Thread that is stickied at the top of our Victory forums. It'll tell you about our server's chat channels and give you tips on finding/forming teams. Lot of people playing usually, especially after Going Rogue.

Awww, and I had fun trying kill Mental or whoever it was that conned hostile to us in Praetoria that one time.
-
Ah, nevermind then. I just check the server status page for things and it notes the maintenance stuff at the top.

Well, it's kind of pointless to debate it, but I really don't see extra slots happening. Making Fitness inherent is already a boon, and the devs already have plans to make our characters more powerful (albeit at level 50). I don't see them wanting to steal any thunder from their Incarnate system by giving us more slots, or upsetting the balance of the 1-50 game any further than making Fitness an inherent already does. I'll be the first to go "sweet, I'll take more slots" if they give them, but I'm not holding my breath, either.

Quote:You should be pretty solid, though mobs with a lot of psychic damage might hurt a bit. I know they're rare, but I don't like being nervous about facing any one group. Cimerorans probably are a bit nerve-wracking solo no matter what Fiery Aura does (if you're fighting a lot at once), because of their defenses and defense debuff. Having about 20-25% defense to all makes a noticeable difference in what punishment I can take, and I always notice it when Grey Pilgrim loses his. And I do notice their defense... they dodge Burn's first hit more often and my other attacks, and I'd rather they went down first.I wanted to thank you all for your replies. You gave me plenty to think about.
I will/am working towards the middle of the road path.
I am switching from the massive regen/health and end build with 5 Dervish sets (made when IO's first came out) to obliterations (two sets done) only need one more and two multi-strike.
I keep my three ST attacks and 3 main aoes. I have consume slotted with a multi strike...for the melee defense instead of a P shift (with aoe).
I have Fiery embrace and build up.
That gives me 37% melee with ranged and aoe in the low teens. Smash/letal at 29%.
I also have a 21% damage buff.
For my last slot I took a single recharge hasten...but I'm debating leadership assault for another 11% damage.
Healing flames is currently at 18.7 secs recharge.
Even con minions just plain melt...yet to do ITF or stf to see how it holds up.
Opinions on assault single slotted? Yes its a toggle...and a bit of a end hog. 11% damage noticable?
I've never found Assault to be all that great. I'll sometimes pick it up on support toons, but not very often even then. Leadership is an end hog and there are usually other good powers out there to take. For Fire/Fire, I have to think that another power would help more. Even Rise of the Phoenix has its uses, and I'd rather that over 11% more offense. Bonuses I can get from sets and Fiery Embrace are enough for me usually (and Build up if you can fit it in: it'll be easy to get both when Fitness becomes inherent). -
They have t-shirts on the site right now. The blue City of Heroes one looks pretty cool, and I wouldn't mind having it. The star symbol on it could be a little more dynamic, and $20 is a little spendy for a t-shirt, but it's still pretty nice.

It's usually pretty accurate. I think there is a period when or after they're unknown that you can't go in still, but usually when I see it go to up, I can log in.

?
You know how it is, sometimes stuff comes up. I usually try to show up on time, but hey, life is life and stuff happens sometimes. Thought the idea was always to show up on time, but still show up if that isn't possible. I don't particularly care when people show up or leave, as long as we can run teams and have fun.
Showing up on time helps with that, but I know how things go, too.
Anyway, the 5th Column/Council were just shredding me in my first team. Second team on Striga was pretty easy, even though our first mission was at a lower level. Helped having a tank and the defenses Voodoo occasionally felt like throwing our way.
Decided to pick up Tough a couple levels earlier in the hopes that it will help out with my survivability. Getting a heal at 28 will help as well. I'm already wishing Fitness was an inherent, so I could pick up another attack, which I'm kind of needing as well. Ugh. -
Making Fitness an inherent was a pretty big gift already... I suppose the devs could still give us more slot, but I find that hard to believe. I would guess that you can make up for things with the Incarnate stuff, and they're going to leave it at that.
And really, having to deal with too few slots is old hat for me. Most of my builds get fairly tight, and I've had a tri-form Kheldian for a long time. There are ways to build around it.
I'll definitely like being able to run toggles pre-stamina, though. That's nice. Still surprised they didn't give us a 1-20 inherent end recovery boost, like they did for accuracy with Beginner's Luck. -
Not sure it's worth going for softcap on a Fire/Fire, as +recharge helps you a lot as well (and will work even when you have DDB hitting you, like on the ITF). Just focusing on S/L is pretty good, but there are more exotic types of damage that will get by it, and you will notice the difference when fighting Carnies, etc. I really don't like fighting those mobs on the build where I focused on S/L, to be honest.

Quote:I should remind my wife that I want the hero version of the City of Heroes t-shirts for Christmas. That and an XKCD hoodie. Hehe.I have all the boxes except for GR, as well as all the HeroClix. I also have a Lord recluse Propaganda poster, a Lord Recluse shirt, a Statesman star shirt, and the first CoH comic signed by Statesman, Mako, and Manticore.
You had a game time card you didn't use? Do you have too much money, or something? This reminds me of a friend of mine from high school that would regularly find $20 in his jacket pocket that he had forgotten he even had. I've never had enough cash around to be able to forget about it like that. -
Still need an SG invite, but that's hopefully doable tomorrow night. I have Odinn all slotted up with 25 IOs, so he's good to go there. Should hopefully make him a bit more tough, do more damage, etc. Good stuff!

Wow, I go out of town for the weekend and everything goes crazy!
Personally, I think giving a level 1-20 power for greater endurance recovery (like that Beginner's Luck power for accuracy in those levels) would have made a lot more sense. That way, we still have to make the adjustments we do now, but the first twenty levels aren't that bad (pretty much my only drawback in Praetoria). With this, seems like there are some shortcomings, but it's more of a bonus than anything else. Not sure what kind of adjustments they might make to the game to make it tougher or something in accordance to this.
At worst, it's a little like what Tri-Form Kheldians have always faced... a lot of powers and not enough slots. It's nice, for sure, though. I guess I can pick up Teleport Friend on more people and go for stealthing capability on more. Nice that we can still slot them as well. Just not keen on all the respecing this will require. Oy.
The upcoming issue stuff is interesting. Sounds like they want to test farther out, which is good. I'm also hoping that we get more than the alpha slot with I19, given its title. I am glad to hear that we get a story arc to introduce it as well... pretty much the only thing I didn't like about the implementation for GR was that there was no storyline reasoning for why we were getting these extra powers, and it just screams for it.
Hopefully we'll get the first few with I19 and enough to do something with them. All in all, I'm looking forward to the next year at CoX (even if there are some great new MMOs potentially coming out)! -
Huh. Mr. G wouldn't talk to my guy, saying I'm on the wrong path for him. And he's in the level range of my guy, level 14. Not sure what to do for him, now.
*added*
The Responsibility contacts would talk to him, however. Washington didn't go anywhere at that level, though. Kang started up okay, though. Just an fyi for anyone in the same boat. -
Quote:Really? I could have sworn they were not, as I was annoyed at how much my Fiery Aura Tank's resistance dropped when one of those was used. I didn't have Tough running, but I think he lost about half of his resistance... from 49% or something to 27% (it's been awhile right now and I can't recall the exact numbers). I was told then that the grenades were unresistable, as it seemed ridiculous to me (I've only been running defense characters redside, so I hadn't noticed it that much, just heard people complain about it).Not anymore they aren't. Sonic Grenades are resistable now.
Quote:You are ignoring the fact that regen is NOT the only thing Regeneration does. Regeneration also has 5 click powers that can prevent a run to the hospital. While even Instant Healing may be overwhelmed by -regen during the duration of the debuff, it will still help you recover quicker for the next fight(s) since it will be active when the debuff fades.
And mobs that do it can hurt you in other ways with slows, etc., too. Which definitely means Regen is getting hit where it hurts in all ways. Regeneration certainly does need weaknesses (and I think its main one is alpha strike damage), it's more of a question to me where having its regeneration ability completely removed by even one power seems ridiculous. -res debuffs that were irresistible were also ridiculous.
It's obviously a little difficult to argue some of this, since CoX does let you challenge so many foes at once, and Scrappers in particular are quite strong, even with their "weaker" sets. However, I would like to see a design challenge cooked up for our abilities that didn't involve something being irresistible or bypassing a set's major characteristic. When you get into that territory, it's far too easy for people to think it's unfair or lame.
I don't mind Reichsman being undefeatable until you use that one power on him, as we get a tool to deal with him. With how -regen powers work, it's just the way it is. Yes, you can use your click heals still, but it still smacks of as a lame "the computer is cheating!" trick, rather than being an actual challenging foe. -
It probably was going to be a critical, but you didn't see the numbers before the foe was defeated.
-
Quote:That's kind of unfortunate. I assumed there was some way to do this, especially since your starting contact specifically mentions being able to go undercover. Marchand or Scott should suggest doing something to get the other side's attention, or something. It's not clear as is.Yeah, as far as I can tell, it just involves going to the other side's (level appropriate) contacts. But it's not quite obvious, as they don't really set you up with anyone automatically, so you either have to look up where they are on the forums/paragon wiki, or search 'em out on your own.
-
I had particularly bad luck. I think I had two drop in as many years (and I think the two dropped earlier in that period). Then boom! I had three drop in as many weeks. I seem to get them now from time to time.
I do play a fair amount of alts, but that dry spell was making me wonder if the devs hated me for a bit, even though I knew it was randomly possible. -
Hmmm. Is it as simple as running up to the appropriate contact for that group, or is there a more "official" way of doing this?
-
Sharkhead seems to be the location of choice to pick up a tip in a short period. I usually just get one in progress from when drops while I run a regular story arc, but it does seems a good choice. Hopefully too many people will not be doing that, though, or it might get hard to find Scrapyarders!

Quote:Zombie man's guide lists the available contacts, you can just walk up to the first contact in each arc in each zone, and provided you're the right level they'll talk to you.

Try Aaron Walker, 2878 -72 -175 in Neutropolis if you haven't done him for the other resistance line (the figures after him are the /loc southings/height/westings), or IVy/Dr Hetzfeld for the loyalist ones.
I did not know that. Cool. Not super sure how to use those numbers to find people, though. I'm better off with distances from neighborhood markers, etc.
