Eh, I figured you meant redside character of some point. Not enough giving the benefit of the doubt to people going on in this thread, I guess.
-
That's my point, though, Masque. You keep pointing out the danger of exploding crystals, when the danger does not even have to be there. They have enough HP that it is easy to get everyone that should not be in range, out of range. You can be out of range of the crystals exploding and still quite close to the team, and fairly safe in that regard.
We had the ambushes spawn in repeatedly on top of Talnar's head (and he was on a Stalker), partially because he was standing out from the group. Heck, I'd be hard pressed to think of a time when someone has died from one of the crystal ambushes on the ITF. Guess you have had some bad luck? -
Quote:At the levels you mentioned earlier (or any level), you may or may not have recipes "right nao" blueside, either. I know from looking myself while frankenslotting for things. There are more 50s in game and fewer people playing through at low levels, I think, as lower level recipes seem to be around less than they used to be.For the record I think most of what I bid on was Bonesnap, Pulverizing Fisticuffs, Bruising Blow and Pounding Slugfest. I didn't double check that every recipe was indeed a common (technically uncommon I guess) drop, but they were all basic stuff, I avoided quads, procs etc.
I'm not really sure what you are trying to prove with this, anyway. I haven't really seen anyone say that the redside market is stronger or more active than blueside's, as that's pretty much a given for anyone paying attention. All most of us are saying is that you can get things on the redside market: you just have to be patient (and for some things, it's cheaper, too).
Quote:But hey, keep flaming me, it really makes you look tough and drives the point home. What point exactly that would be... I leave up to the individual reader.
I note that you have pretty much ignored everything I said to focus on the "flamers," so there would be a starting point for you right there. Unless you want your focus to be on "you vs. everyone else." Can't help you then. -
Energy Melee is ST focused, so Shields is actually a good compliment to it. AAO will boost your ST damage, and Shield Charge will help with your weaker AOE damage.
If you want to be an AOE monster, you shouldn't go for Energy Melee, but it's a perfectly fine set, and you chose a good compliment to it. Ah, and just realized that the many stuns in Energy Melee will work nicely with all your defense, too. -
Masque... the STF is far more challenging than the ITF for the Master's badge. The ambushes don't come in right when you defeat the crystals, and there is plenty of time to clump up or react to them (heck, sometimes the ambushes don't even find you: you just have to be careful if you have to backtrack to them). If you're really worried about it, have two tanks like I did and aggro management is a breeze in that one. The only two people close to the cysts were our two tanks: we had everyone else back up.
STF has many more opportunities to get you if you're not careful, I would say. And no matter what, that last mission is more tricky than anything in the ITF. -
Yup, I go with pretty much the same approach, Clouded. I up the number of mobs for AOE heavy ATs, up the level for ST focused ones. So my Nin Stalker does well with higher level mobs, whereas my blasters like to have more targets (usually go +1 or +0, and up the number of mobs as I increase their defense levels).
-
You could probably go +2 before Footstomp. Sure, you have no AOE, but that setting doesn't add much. Generally you'd be fighting more bosses and lieutenants with that, and SS has good ST damage that can beat those up fast.
After that, you could easily up it a notch or two more. Sure, you could probably handle +5 to +8 mobs alone, but it would take awhile to clear them all with just your STs and Footstomp. Longer than I like to take on missions, anyway (I like working on story arcs for the merits, so I balance out between that and the xp gain of adding to how many players I equal). -
I dunno, I would think it's at least on par with Dr. Kahn, if not a bit more difficult. There are a fair amount of ambushes and AVs, and some of those rooms are extremely crowded, so you would have to be careful with aggro there. The Riders can be a little more tricky as well: especially with their debuffs (as Hammy said many times this weekend "damn end drain!").
I'm not saying it is the most challenging thing ever, but it's above the challenge of the Phalanx TFs and seems worthy of adding a "Master" badge to it. -
I thought that was the way it worked as well. There are options for levels of Hami-Os and recipes that cannot even exist in the game (like level 53), as long as you have your settings right.
-
Weird. I was always under the impression that they all had the setting. Guess I've never really bothered to check. I don't think they're really needed for the original TFs, but I'd like to see it for the LGTF: that'd be a decent challenge.
-
That's the funny thing... powers that don't require slotting are actually pretty nice, especially in an IO set world. Used to be I could one-slot Taunt and I'd be good, but the Taunt sets have good enough bonuses that I usually want to slot it up a bit.
So I actually like having a few one slot powers, it helps out. RoTP is good enough at one slot (though I wishing for more recharge on it on that unlucky STF run the other night), as is Temp. Protection.
Calash, I didn't think of all the elemental damage the Outcasts do at those levels, other than their slows. I can see how that would help out. I should run GP through those via Orobouros to get a feel for them: I think he's mostly just done Posi and the Cavern of Transcendence at that level. -
Quote:VEATs aren't so good there, but yup, that's what it was supposed to be.Epic == tied to a story. Epic =/= awesomeness incarnate.
For the poster you were replying to, VEATs aren't that epic to play. They're just a solid AT and can be quite powerful in teams, but the same can be said of a lot of our ATs. The greatness of CoX is derived from how many combinations can work, really.
For the OP, I'm a little leery of requirements to unlock anything. Costume sets are both good and annoying for this, and unlocking ATs does put a gate around some significant work from the devs. -
I never would have guessed, Masque.
Maybe you can join me for a Master run next week to help out, eh?
What are all the TFs with Master badges, again? All I could find on Paragonwiki were for the STF, Dr. Kahn, and ITF, but I thought there were more blueside. Can you not get them for most of the TFs blueside? -
Quote:You can bid on items that haven't been posted before, or aren't posted currently. How are you setting up your view in the market? If you set it to view all (rather than for sale or bidding), you should be able to see all level ranges for the recipe you are looking for, whether they are sale at the moment or have a bid in.My only major complaint about the market is you cant bid on something thats never been posted for auction before. For example, I need 3 explosive strikes for a toon. the level range is 10-20. As far as rareity goes, I dont believe they have low drop rates, pretty sure they are common as far as uncommons go. However, most toons will never need the set, so no one has ever sold level 20 peices of it. This bites for me because now I have to try for even lower level peices of a crappy set that I really really need. I would buy it with merits but the vendors dont offer that set. So instead, Im stuck trying to get it on my lowbies or something.
I do rather wonder if the lower level recipes will improve with GR and things like that, as more people will want to start new ATs. I know I'm kind of holding off on any new ATs right now, as the concepts I have are set up more for GR.
Level 10-20 recipes are weird. Used to be some of the sets there (like the Achilles -resist) was quite cheap. I stocked up on about five of those for toons that were going to need them, and the total price for those was cheaper than you can get one for now. -
-
Good overview of all the sets, abnormal. Should be helpful to anyone looking at tanks and wondering what feels right for them.
-
Thanks! I started writing it way back in May, but it has gotten backburnered a LOT. Teaching is very time-consuming, and my main focus is creative writing, so I couldn't find a lot of time to do it. Finally made the final push after seeing so many Fiery Aura questions put up in the past couple weeks.
I updated the builds again. Since only one build at a time in a post will download, I expanded the detail on the two IO builds I have (kept the non-IO set offensive build the same, as that is easy enough as it is). -
I'd rather see def caps lowered for some ATs than have more -def in the game. -def is around plenty, but having everyone cap out at 45% doesn't seem balanced to me.
Keep in mind that I play pretty much every AT blueside, and quite a few redside, and I still think this- I'm not trying to see one AT come out on top of the defense race. I just think it would make for more parity among ATs, and get the game a bit more challenging, too. -
Quote:What recipes did you bid on? Depending on what they are and their type, they might be relatively rare. I didn't think the Gaussian Rech/End recipe was very rare, but it actually is a rare drop. Also, level 17, 23, 27, and 29 are not common drop levels. If you look at recent purchase dates, they do seem to hit the five digit categories fairly often, whereas the other ones can be slower.Several days ago when this thread kind of exploded into the mess that it is now, I decided to actually test the assertions of the marketeers posting here.
I placed bids on a number of odd level (17, 23, 27, 29 etc) recipes. I chose recipes that would be useful for frankenslotting, but avoided the high demand quads and such. All bids were placed at reasonable prices, in that if it had a consistent history I matched it. If there were large price spikes, I placed bids reflecting the median price.
Every bid is still sitting unfilled.
You have to explain what your experience was more in depth for people to say, "yup, those should have gone in," or "nope, those are rare, no surprise there."
I have all of two villains that I play often, but I have gotten two other Masterminds to 50. Some sets move fairly quick, other ones are quite slow. Slower than blueside. So it just requires being more patient. However, I like salvage prices a lot more redside... blueside is generally more expensive, for whatever reason.
No matter what, just play the side you like to play. You may have to wait longer for some sets on the market, but that should not decide your enjoyment of the game. I saved enough merits about a month back to make a bit of cash on my Stalker, and was finally able to slot him with most of the sets I wanted. He was a blast before that, and while he has higher performance now, he's just as fun. -
4-shotted, actually. Through 75% def to all and pretty high resists (if they weren't capped, they were close... I had fired off a Robust inspiration, so I had to be at 90% for Smash/Lethal, if not Energy). That's just... wow. Bad luck.
Learning point is that I need more than a rad healing me, I guess.
Not that it mattered at that point, of course, since our Blaster got unlucky as well and had some vines drop him in the Thorn Tree room. Kind of went loosey-goosey with the rest. I should have picked up more of my tier 3 inspirations for Recluse, but I haven't had that much of an issue with him before, so I didn't think I needed them. Lesson learned with that, I guess.
I need to run more STFs no matter what, though. Got 110 million after market fees for the Ribosome Hami-O I picked up.
I'll try another Master run next week if I'm up for it. Either Statesman again or Dr. Kahn. -
Gratz, wish the MoSTF had worked out for us as well.
-
Might be running a little late with this. Despite my best efforts, I may not have other RL things done by 7 PM Central. So don't go anywhere if I'm not there right at 7 PM Central/8 PM Eastern.
Nericus will hopefully be joining us for another spot, but it looks like we'll have some room to find more. Hopefully we can find them quick. -
Yes, if a Brute is trying to tank for their team, the Four Rules of Tanking definitely apply to them, too. People seem to think of tanking as just a "run in there and hit some things" approach, but there really is more to it than that. The only AT I play that can really run in there and not think much are my Scrappers. Sure, I have to make use of my self heals on my MA/Regen, but the team is somewhat incidental to the picture with them. Heh.
I'm glad your teammates were more friendly. I haven't run into too many grumpy types that take suggestions or advice badly, but they do exist. With the two tanks in question, I really did ask first off "Could you guys spread out and make sure you're getting the attention of the mobs? You're clumped up and a lot of them are going after us." When I was told to basically shut up after that, I was a hair's breadth from quitting. I don't mind being defeated, but when it's from bad tactics and people that are rude, I don't really care to do it anymore. -
Set up a new guide to the Fire/Fire sets for Tanks, as well as some general tanking advice.
My four rules of tanking are a part of that guide, but could be used a general guide to tanking as well. -
Quote:Probably would be a good idea to pair your archer with a Secondary you don't need to switch to very much. Devices works well for this, as you use most of those powers before combat. Someone mentioned that it worked well with Energy Melee earlier, as you can just use the buffs before fighting. That works pretty nice for me... when you pull out your bow after that you can hear yourself saying, "let's do this." Heh.My highest level Archery character is 23 or so. I absolutely love him until I have to use a power in my secondary. I don't know why, but I absolutely hate redraw on powersets. It isn't about the very minute damage difference, it is just the concept of it all.
For example, If I play a scrapper, I always stick with Willpower if I use a weapon. I just feel like the theme/"coolfactor" of my character drops every time he has to put his bow away to energy punch someone.
To make a long story short, if they could allow the bow to never be redrawn mid combat, I would absolutely love this set!
