Despite no announcements on the boards, this page confirms NCSoft will be exhibiting at San Diego Comicon next month.

"Well, of course they are, why wouldn't they be?" you may be asking.

That's a legitimate question, but if you take a look at this page, two names that seem to be missing are Atari, and Cryptic, which is just odd, unless they exhibit under some other name and I don't know it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If Cryptic is set on releasing CO at the start of September, then I'm not surprised that they'd skip Comic-Con. They're getting into crunch time, and it'd be better to have everyone at the studio working away than have guys take at least a week off to get things planned, set up, actually run at the Con, and then back home. Paragon Studios isn't under the same sort of pressure that Cryptic is right now, having a large expansion and a free update to worry about as opposed to launching a brand new game.

That said, I'm now looking forward to what goodies we'll get leaked to us via folks visiting the Paragon Studios exhibit during the event.

For some reason, I found this to be incredibly amusing. I laughed probably more than I should have.
  3. (QR)

Since we have some European players watching this thread, please allow me to dispel the notion I've seen stated on your board that "only high post counts matter" here. That's a load of bull. As always, it's what you post, not how much you post, that matters. And while it's true that many of the people around here with incredibly high post counts are often held in high regard by the community, it's because these individuals have usually earned such high post counts by posting helpful, insightful things.

There are exceptions, of course. Some people just like to talk a lot without actually saying that much. I won't name names, but once y'all are over here with us and have had a little time to get acclimated to our tribe of yahoos, it shouldn't be that hard to tell. Likewise, I'm sure you folks have some people who'll also make a post just to say that they had a thought about posting something, but then forgot what it was they were gonna post.

But please, don't come into this thinking that we're some stuck-up elitists who spend our days looking down our noses at those who don't have X number of posts and insult everyone. That would make you seem like stuck-up elitists who spend their days looking down their noses at those who don't post on their boards, or because they are American or Canadian. Which I know none of you do. The only people who make those sort of claims about post count around here are stupid n00bs who think that any game that isn't exactly like WoW sucks, and trolls who rant and rabble over the most idiotic things and are thus rightly mocked for their inability to come off as anything other than children throwing tantrums.

We're not just pleased to have great new software--the best part of this change is that City of Heroes® forum dwellers are about to become one big happy family! That's right; we're integrating our North American and European communities into one board so everyone can be together!

    Brute or Tank?

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Once they add the next expantion...why would anyone want to play a Scrapper Blue side??

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes. I prefer Scrappers with their high sustained damage without having to work with another factor (fury) to deal good damage. I also like having survival on an AT that also doesn't draw all the aggro onto themselves to the point that I feel like I have to play the most durable sets exclusively (like WP) or pick up Tough/Weave or go crazy with IOs.

The problem I always see is that people who play a specific class (Brute) always assume everyone else wants to play that class too. Contrary to your belief of how impossibly cool Brutes are, not everyone is going to stop playing other ATs to be a Brute.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This.

As someone with many Brutes in his character list, I can honestly say that Scrappers are much more efficient fighters. And sometimes, having to generate Fury is a bit of a pain. For example, if you're on a good team that's more or less steamrolling through things, in most cases, you simply won't be able to keep enemies alive long enough to build a significant amount and will therefore be dealing subpar damage until you come across a spawn (be it an EB/AV or a really tough spawn of mobs in general) that can't be dropped in a few seconds. Yeah, you're a freight train once you've got a bit of Fury built up, but it's not always a cakewalk building and maintaining said Fury. Even if you've got a lot of Brutes in your character list.

Scrappers, by comparison, are built around more of a "set it and forget it" playstyle where damage is consistently good, and sometimes great due to the occurrence of critical hits.

    Now, as for the OP:

The safe choice is an Inv/SS Tanker. Until you get Rage and SOs/IOs, your damage is gonna be low. You're a Tanker; it's your lot in life. Now, the SS/Inv Brute is - by far - more capable of generating incredibly high damage, but the cost is even lower survivability than normal due to the Defense penalty associated with Rage crashing. Yes, the Tanker will also experience this, but the impact upon survivability is offset by the Tanker's higher base Res and Def numbers. But by no means are you gimped as an SS/Inv Brute. Until I kinda retired him, my main was an SS/Inv and he did well in most situations.

And as for Scrappers getting Super Strength: don't hold your breath. A big reason that SS exists in its current form is the low base damage modifiers for Tankers and Brutes. Put the Super Strength powerset - including Rage - in the hands of a Scrapper with much higher damage mods AND critical hits, and you've got a possible recipe for overpoweredness.

Honestly, so much has changed in 4 years, it'd probably be best to forget most of what you used to know, make a new character, and learn the game all over again from level 1.

    [/ QUOTE ]

In addition to this, if you're on triumph @inokis. I'll help you out any way I can.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That reminds me ... you need to find out what the major global chat channels are for the server you're on. Being able to ask questions while in-game is invaluable, and I'm sure you'll be able to find some folks to actually walk you through some of the new/changed stuff.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
So I have been gone from the game for four years and decided to come back. A lot seems to have changed since then (of course), and i was wondering if anyone had the time to go over some of the major changes. For example, back when I was playing people were six slotting hasten with recharge, and when i look at builds i am only seeing 3 slots now. Did they change how slots work, is there a cap? Thanks in advance!

    hi guys,

now i tried city of heroes and i must say i'm not excited about it. the gameplay is not what i expected and the combat system is slow and not really impressive.

When i compare the gameplay to world of warcraft it's not even close. I didn't come further then a few levels, then i got bored by the game.

sorry to say this to the people that love the game

    [/ QUOTE ]

    'Kay, bye!

The first few levels of WoW didn't convince me that I'd want to stick around to play the rest of them, either. Please remember to delete your characters so people can use the names, and turn the lights off as you leave.

I'd ask for your stuff, but having only played the first few levels, you obviously don't have any.

I've been playing this game quite a while and have yet to discover what renews health and which renews endurance. In the recipes for sets, it talks about them both but I am not sure which is which. They sound so similar - Regeneration and Recovery. I feel like I should just know it but wanted someone more intelligent than I (which in this case could be most of the players) to define it. Does Regeneration = Hit Points and Recovery = Endurance? OR is it vice versa?

    [/ QUOTE ]

You got it. Regeneration is the measure of how fast you recover HP, and Recovery is the measure of how fast you recover End.
  12. It's likely a bug. The same sort of thing is happening with portals, travel FX, "patches" like Shadow Fall, and other things.

    [ QUOTE ]
Get rid of the F-ing backpack when I dual-build into a Bane-spec! I can't -have- 'Off Duty' clothes with the giant spider legs sticking out of my lower spine. So please grant me the concession of dual-building into plain-clothes! >_<

    -Rachel-

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not only is there a technical reason why the backpack can't be removed (y'know, because it took freaking forever to get it to work properly AT ALL), but in-story, the backpack is surgically grafted to a Crab Spider's spine and connected to his nervous system.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Soon, my main will be 50. (Sig is a bit iout of date). And I'd like to use him to raise inf for a SoA.

While farming funds and such for my SoA, I'd like to kill 2-birds with one stone by also having a decent chance for a purple drop here and there.

Are there any ideal reccomendations for a soloer to maximize chance to get purple drops?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Given the drop rate for purples, and the fact that they drop off of any minion-class enemy capable of giving level 50 loot, "farming" for them is neither really productive nor necessary. Just play the game, and things will play out as they will.

    Just my opinion.

Added: If you're kinda desperate for inf, you could always try PvP. The PvP-unique recipes and enhancements are going for hundreds of millions red-side. I've seen some selling for as much as 600 to 800 million.
  15. Respecs and travel powers at level 6 (which I'm supposed to be getting sometime today).

Oh, hello there! I didn't see you come in. If you've made it this far past Liquid's post, I guess I should let you know that NCSoft is not at E3 this year. What? Yes, I'm afraid that trickster Liquidx has pulled the wool over your eyes once again, that lovable rogue.
  17. [ QUOTE ]

I wonder if we'll ever get those "stance" emotes BABs was talking about back in the day, where we wouldn't necessarily change our actual animations, but could assume them when standing around for whatever reason. If ever we did, this would be one I would ask for.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Forgot about this part.

Actually, there are a few poses you can strike while standing around. They've been in-game for a long time, too. Unfortunately, they're just the individual poses that normally loop as part of our characters' regular "standing around" actions.:

/e akimbo: hands on hips, feet shoulder-distance apart

/e crossarms: take a wild guess.

And once you're in them, your pose does not change until you move, use another emote, or use a power.

On an interesting little sidenote, one night last week in the Training Room, BABs was chatting with us and decided to let us see the new costume change emotes a little bit early. Before he left, he tried typing in something like "heroicpose1" (probably not right; my memory's a bit dodgy at times). On what I assume is a second attempt, his character crossed his arms like normal, but his legs at least appeared to be close together instead of shoulder-distance apart like when you use the "crossarms" emote. Take this as you will. May be something for PCs in the future, may be a dev-only NPC command.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
I wonder what happened to those animations. They obviously had an almost full set from what I've seen, including running, standing and even hovering. So why scrap them? The once they replaced them with are just clones of the male animations, anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

In all fairness, Sam, they likely didn't have a full set. Remember that at that point, the game was still in bits and pieces. Most of the powersets listed didn't yet exist, and in fact, if I remember correctly, I think the only powers that did exist were the ones that were shown being used in the video. Y'know, "Claws" literally consisted of that one attack that was shown, same with "Fire Blast".

Now, as for why they scrapped the intended female pose? Who knows. When you start to look back through the earliest pictures and videos, you'll notice a lot of things that were radically changed by the time the game finally went live. Heck, the entire layout of Atlas Park changed (not to mention that Atlas' globe went from being hollow metal to solid stone).

    Yes.

Also, the chest pattern "Tanker" is now it's very own top layer.

    Twitter...

    [ QUOTE ]
I honestly don't know why anyone would post to twitter as an individual.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, like I said, I primarily use it as a sort of real-time update generator for my Myspace page so that I don't have to either waste blog entries on really unimportant minutia or save all those little bits up and post them in a blog entry later on, at which point they may be dated if I'm commenting on current events. Others also use it as a kind of universal text-messaging service, sending messages back and forth with multiple other users.

The whole "cult of personality" aspect of it gets played up by some folks, although it does exist. Frankly, I really don't care if I have followers or not.

    Twitter...

I typically use Twitter for two purposes:

    1) Putting little thoughts out there that are really too small for blog entries (I have a widget that shows my Twitter feed on my Myspace profile [yes, I still use Myspce; so what?]), leaving me free to save my blog for more lengthy or rambling posts.

    2) Following people/organizations/products I find interesting. Among my current followings are Adam Savage, Penn Jillette, Sabian cymbals, and Leandro's Architect Editor program.

It's certainly not for everyone, and there definitely is a subset of users who utilize it simply for narcissism fulfillment. But the ability to post essentially real-time updates of whatever you want, whenever you want, and have it sent simultaneously to theoretically the entire internet (I know that people have to navigate to your profile to see your entries, but anyone on the internet can do that) is very much awesome.

That said, I know Positron has a Twitter account. Much like his blog, though, I'm sure updates are sporadic at best. And as much as an official CoH Twitter would be cool, the nature of game development doesn't really lend itself well to that particular format. More than anything, I'd love to see the web department get us some official RSS feeds going for the developer and community digests. Right now, we don't even have a working RSS feed for the News section of the CoH website.

A surprising number of my contacts redside, I would rather kill than work for. And the game won't let me. I can't even double-cross them.

Thankfully, you can double-cross all of your villainous contacts once Going Rogue comes out!

    i15 this week?

    [ QUOTE ]
    Maybe tomorrow or Thursday.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I also mentioned that post in the "Preparation for I15 beta" thread. Note that at the time of said post, the devs hadn't made a decision one way or another about the internal I15 build being ready to push to the Training Room. So until a redname says otherwise, it still ain't set in stone. Oh, and the appearance of that short feature over at ten ton hammer isn't necessarily indicative of anything, either.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What makes you think that's a MM?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not an MM. That's Holo Man, member of the "Paragon Heroes" enemy group that gets used for Mayhem Missions. He's an Illusion/Force Field, if I remember correctly.
