I'm just disappointed that she even considered dodging the laser in the first place. Real Heroes would fly INTO the laser beam, to prevent it from striking the Earth. Not only that, but they would fly up the beam, smash though the weapon itself and straight through the guy operating it. ESPECIALLY in this case, where it's a robot running the orbital base, so she wouldn't even have to worry about explosive decompression.

That's just an application of the Inverse Law of Sharpness and Accuracy. The X-wings are dodging hundreds of turrets, and thus they will successfully evade as per dramatic requirement by this inverse law. You can't evade a single laser. It doesn't happen.

I'd be way more cautious if there was an orbital laser in the area

If a whole battery of trench--protecting turbo lasers can fail to hit something the size of an X-Wing at pretty close range, then a single orbital laser will have even less chance of hititng a human-sized object

I wouldn't be making myself that much of a target if I was fighting an orbital laser
A zig-zagging flight pattern would work
