Indeed. 6pm BST is on the schedule I have
-
*ahem* Rockjaw had 'net access because he needed it for making Leipzig updates as part of what he was there for. The rest of us ... let's just say we were far too busy (at least 9 hours per day [2x 11 hour min days] on the show floor, plus meals etc after) to be willing to spend the money for the hotel access. Not to mention that the wireless on my laptop is borked and the room didn't have a wired connection that I could find. In other words: those who absolutely had to have it, got it, but most of us went without as we simply didn't have the time to make it worthwhile.

And what time does one normally leave one's announcement-filled office?
[/ QUOTE ]
Normally? 6pm. Today? Depends on when the announcement is ready to go up.

Split out of the thread where it was posted, as it's a different topic, and closed as it appears to have been posted later here: http://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com/sh...Number=1184631

Just so you all know, we're working with NCNC to try to correct the downloaded client so that it properly installs the EU client.

Interesting discussion. Will be even more interesting seeing where all these characters end up living in the future.

Is that some sort of cruel hint!? Tell us OR be tarred and feathered!

You'll have to wait a while yet.

Original Post updated:
In the prizes section you will find some shiny new purple text.
Say 'Thank you' to Atreid! -
Update: to give more teams time to form, and the Judges an extra week to recover from Leipzig, the dates for final registration and the first matches have both been moved back a week. These changes are in red in the original post above.
-
While I hope that these are now the definitive rules and won't need to be updated, please be aware that in the interests of keeping the event as fun as possible for everyone there may be some revisions required. We'll make sure to notify of any revisions as early as possible, and incorporate those into the rules above clearly.

Please see this thread for updated rules and tournament format.

On behalf of Knight Stalker, who is the main organiser for X4: The Evolution, here are the updated announcement and rules for this PvP event:
X4: The Evolution
Miss S4? You won't soon! Yes, after many different ideas popping into Knight Stalker's head, he's finally decided that the idea he likes most is another pentad event. Having really enjoyed S4, he would like to see another similar event and hopes that others would get the same enjoyment he found from participating in it.
With X4 things will vary a little from the original S4. There will be one event, to be held on the test server. This will allow all teams from all servers to take part in the same competition.
Registration is now open and all entries must be in by 11:59pm on 31 August 2008. The event will start the following weekend at 7:30pm on 6 September 2008. Matches will be run weekly. Be assured it will not be left to linger and you will be updated as often as possible. Match dates after the first week are negotiable, depending on Judge availability, and can be arranged for any time during the week with the agreement of the judges, the organiser, and the teams involved.
[u]Judges[u]
Judging will be done by the Community team (GhostRaptor, Kerensky and Palladium), giving a truly impartial decision in the case of a dispute. Their decision will be final. This will give Knight Stalker the chance to compete in this event if he chooses to do so.
[u]Teams[u]
Each team will consist of 5 members and all Archetypes, except epics, are available (see below for further details).
Teams may be all Heroes, all Villains, or a hybrid team drawing from both sides. Hero teams must consist of the five standard Hero AT's, and Villains of the five standard Villain AT's. Hybrid teams may select either a Hero or Villain AT from each of the five rows in the below table:
Code:[/color]

Heroes <-> Villains
_________________________
Tanker <-> Mastermind
Scrapper <-> Brute
Blaster <-> Stalker
Defender <-> Corrupter
Controller <-> Dominator

For example, you could have the following team: Tanker, Brute, Stalker, Defender, Controller.
To register your team, please see this thread.
[u]Server[u]
The Event will be held on the Test Server and is open to teams from all Servers.
[u]The Rules[u]
In the event of any disputes that arise, that may be rule related or game related, the Judges decision is final.
[u]Divisions[u]
There will be two divisions for X4: Cruiserweight (level 40) and Featherweight (level 21). For division-specific rules, please see below.
[u]Tournament Structure[u]
Both Divisions will utilise the Double Elimination tournament structure, ensuring that all teams get to play at least two matches.
[u]Scheduling[u]
The Featherweight division will commence at 7:30pm on Saturday, September 6th. Cruiserweight will commence the following day, September 7th, again at 7:30 pm.
[u]Substitutions[u]
In the event that a player is unable to attend a match, substitutions will be considered after consultation with the organisers and the judges.
In the interests of avoiding forfeits and minimising problems arising from scheduling conflicts, each team will be allowed 1 substitution per match during the event.
[u]Matches[u]
Any match may be abandoned within 10 seconds of starting if both team captains agree that the map is unsuitable (eg if there is a known bug that could cause difficulty). Should only one team captain protest, the match will continue. In the interests of sportsmanship, we ask all team captains to give full consideration before denying a request.
In the event that any player crashes from a match within the first 2 minutes, the match may be restarted. If a player crashes from a match after two minutes of play have elapsed, then the match must be continued.
All Inspiration types are allowed.
All temporary powers are allowed.
All Accolades are allowed.
[u]Level 40 Cruiserweight Specific Rules[u]
All IO's, HO's and Set Bonuses are allowed.
Each Match will last for 20 minutes.
[u]Level 21 Featherweight Specific Rules[u]
No Set Bonuses allowed. Your character should have nothing displayed on the set bonus screen.
Only characters between levels 14 and 21 may take part.
Each match will last for 10 minutes.
[u]Prizes[u]
To be announced, and will be dependent on the number of teams who enter (more teams = better prizes). Possibilities include:
* Definite: In-game title (unless participation is high, this will be temporary)
* Definite: Forum title (permanent)
* Almost Definite: Guaranteed Aion Exclusive Preview Event access (details will be announced later)
* Maybe: PPD costume power codes
* Maybe: Signed CoV CE Art Books
* Maybe: CoV capes
* Maybe: CoH/V T-shirts
Prizes will be provided for a team of 5. In the event of substitutions being used by a winning team during the event, no additional prizes will be provided.
[u]New to PvP?[u]
Knight Stalker and others would welcome all and any new players to this event, and if you require any advice or guidance please feel free to PM him. This event will be maturely organised by Knight Stalker and Cherry Fusion, with support from the Community team. There will not be any put downs or I pwn u talk. It is hoped that each team leader would be a good sport and help out less experienced teams, and help motivate them to carry on with PvP in a losing situation. After all, we as PvPers only want to help to improve PvP and increase the size of our community.
[u]Need a Team?[u]
If you like the idea of this event but you dont know anyone who plays PvP or you dont know anyone in game to make a team with please PM Knight Stalker with the characters you are willing to play. He will put you in touch with teams looking for additional members.stration closes. -
For clarity:
The possible prize list could include:
* Definite: In-game title (unless participation is high, this will be temporary)
* Definite: Forum title (permanent)
* Maybe: PPD costume power codes
* Maybe: Signed CoV CE Art Books
* Maybe: CoV capes
* Maybe: CoH/V T-shirts
* If the number of teams participating is particularly good, I might be able to dig something more out.
However, to be clear on this: This is a player-run event with our support. It will not attract the same degree of prize support as a full, official, event would.
If this event goes well, then an officially supported PvP event becomes far more likely to happen sooner rather than later.

Now it would have helped alot if it said that the initial batch of ads was for UK only.
[/ QUOTE ]
At the time I posted the announcement, I wasn't not sure if the filtering was UK-specific or covered some other English language areas of the EU as well. It may well do depending on the ad campaign received. Hence ... I kept the post a little ambiguous -

[ QUOTE ]
They're still the first ads for the European servers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Fixed.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you want to be pedantic.... UK is part of Europe, and that only a subset of players can see them doesn't change the fact of these being the first real in-game ads on the EU servers. Of course, it's all a matter of subjective opinion really.
-
This can probably be rolled into the thread Standoff linked
-
They're still the first ads for Europe
.
Ads for Germany and France will arrive over time as well. The system is setup so that we only distribute ads to those who they are relevant for - so yes, in many cases if you live outside one of the core territories you may not see the ads. -
Full rules will be posted today, once I've had a chance to look through what KS has sent me.
As far as prizes are concerned: there will be prizes, however the exact details will be reliant on how many people register. I have, for example, some signed art books from the CoV collector's edition available, however I won't be able to include them in the prizes unless there's a good number of teams participating. -
[ QUOTE ]
I would opt out simply because they are all the same and it looks stupid.
Why on earth didn't they mix some of the old fake ads in there?
[/ QUOTE ]
The old CoX fake ads *are* still be used. If you're seeing an excessive number of the Babylon AD ads, please provide feedback on your experience with the new ads (eg zone and locations within zones where you feel the number of ads is excessive) and we'll pass that information along to NCNC and our advertising partner. -
This is a final warning for this thread: any further personal posts will be dealt with rapidly.
-
Actually, I have a progress update for you with regards the forums
.
Dungeon Runners has now switched over to the new software (vBulletin), which they have been testing for a while. Assuming everything goes smoothly with the DR implementation, you can expect new CoH forums running on vBulletin to appear soon. No, I can't give you an exact date.
If you have a DR account, it would be great if you could try using their forums and let us know how it goes for you! (Normally - please don't spam their forums).
