  1. I've never built a tank before, so this may be a bit rough. I took many of the ideas from Garthalus' Ice/Fire tank guide but modified it a bit.

The basic idea is to softcap defense and then allow KM's -DMG stack with Chilling Embrace and Darkest Night to make up for the lack of resists.

    Any ideas?

  2. So I took the Cardiac alpha and Degenerative interface proc on my Ill/Rad that I want to set up as an AV/GM hunter. I was looking at Paragon Wiki and it tells me that the Degenerative proc only does -150 Max HP to AVs and above. Not really worth it I'm thinking.

Should I just go ahead and take the usual Reactive or would something like Diagmetric (-regen) be better?
  3. So I was farting around with the the Surveillance power from the Munitions Mastery APP and it gives real numbers for critters. Everything that you can see in Combat Attributes shows up for them (didn't check for XP to next level, but I'll do that next time)

I was thinking that I could compile this information, maybe put it on ParagonWiki or something.

Is this something that has been done already? Is it something that people would be interested in seeing? What level should I use? I'm thinking 50. Anyway just looking for some feedback
  4. Does anyone have any experience with it? Does it turn you into a mini rad or is it skippable?
  5. So I'm playing an Ice/KM toon and having some fun. I'm looking at Power Siphon and wondering what it does.

Does it give a base +ToHit and then for every other enemy I hit(to a max of 5) I get an additional +ToHit bonus?

Is that really all it does?
  6. This post should be added as an addendum (woo! alliteration!) to my own post of a similar vein.

    How to complain

Thanks for the well wishing all! A sticky, no less! Wow, I'm humbled.

Don't you dare tell me how to [censored] Goddamnit.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I will tell you how to [censored] and you will like it buddy!

I take issue with much of the section on patience and bug fixes. As some of the games problems approach their 2nd year anniversary without resolution, I believe many of the player's complaints in this area are fully justified (albeit that some of these complaints were inappropriately expressed). The premise that the devs would fix everything if they could in an instant is more than a bit misleading.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Your points are well taken. As you have said that wasn't the intent of the guide. There's a difference between insulting ideas and insulting individuals. Some don't get the difference and instead marry the ideas to the persons giving them. Essentially my point is that there is a right way to criticize and get things done and a wrong way. Too many don't seem to know the difference.

There's another thread where one of the developers admits that there were only 15 developers working on this game for quite some time. That's less than two squads of people. As you know the platoon is the smallest maneuver unit in the Army. Less than half a rifle platoon to run and improve something on the scope of this game. That's pretty impressive, in my opinion.

I wasn't asking anyone to coddle developers, nor to treat their words as law but instead to give the men and women working on this game the benefit of the doubt. ...sir

Many of them do not, no, and for others a few of it breaks down into a few reasons I have detailed here.

Many people will use the OMG, you have not seen the numbers excuse which is in itself erroneous because Blasters are an attack heavy AT. Psi will be increased in order to perform at the level of its brethren sets if only adequately so. Mind Manipulation is control heavy with some serious holds and a regen. It may not be Dominator impressive, but clearly, it is far from sub par. But Castle said, Castle also said the numbers were not final.

Some people honestly do not understand and/or care about the situation and see any content as beneficial to the game. These are some of the anti-whine crusade and merely serve to exacerbate the situation by telling people to [censored] as if they were the devs. These people can be from either side, so it is not just a hero thing.

In short no, you do not have the RIGHT to criticize. You MUST support the games content or else you are not being a team player. Personally, it pisses me off to see a set like this go to the Blasters when my DOM would love MM with the right tweaking, but eventually, you become so cynical you just stop carrying.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't care about your or others' complaining. I just wish you'd add some critical thought to your complaints. We have not seen the numbers. We do not know how well or poorly the Psi blaster sets will do. What we're telling you is to wait and see what the powers are all about then offer criticism.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But I wasn't complaining, and even said I no longer care. I simply envied the MM set. Lrn2 reading comprehension before addressing an adult next time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The bolded part indicates that you do care despite protestations to the contrary. Thanks for playing.

  10. I think they should stop giving us updates to new Issues before they even go on Open Beta.

There seem to be too many children on these boards that cannot wait until these things even enter beta testing to see how things work.

I'm sure that even if the VEATs are great there will be someone that complains, "ZOMG nao i haf 2 play a gimp vill to ply a VEAT?!?! teh devs hate vills!"

What some of you doomsayers are failing to note is that you are shooting the community in the foot with all of your nastiness. Do not be surprised if for Issue 13 we hear, "Due to the problems that we had with I12 and Powerset Proliferation, there will be no announcements concerning Issue 13 until it enters Open Beta."
  11. Gelu_Procellus

    How to complain

Or: How to make friends, influence Developers (and maybe get invited to a closed beta )

In light of the recent hubbub about Powerset Proliferation it made me realize that some people just simply do not know how to complain. They're either rude, insulting and conspiracy-minded or they do not offer any sort of input on how to make something better.

Full disclosure: I started playing this game in August of last year, just before or just after Issue 10. I didn't go through ED or GDN or any of the other changes that some of you went through. Maybe if I had I'd have a different view of the goings on here. Anyways, here goes:

1- You get more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Politeness costs nothing but can get you everything. Just because a Dev makes a boneheaded (to us) decision is no reason to question his/her thought processes, intelligence, gender traits, and/or recreational activities with pets.

Just the simple act of being nice when you are stating an issue gets you more likely to be looked at than some mouthbreather spluttering away with some of the "best" invective he can come up with.

It gets tough to remember that we're dealing with human beings on the other end of the internets and I myself have been guilty of making personal remarks that I shouldn't have. We should be better than that.

Don't make remarks over the internet that you wouldn't make in person. And if you would make those types of remarks in person, draw a circle around your feet and fix everything in the circle before coming back to these forums.

2- The Developers are not Supermen (despite playing one on a video game)

The Devs are human beings. They are not omniscient god-men/women that see beyond the horizon into realms unknown. They are flawed people doing the best they know how to try and please the greatest number of people. They'll mess up, make mistakes, and screw the pooch occasionally. Our responsibility is to let them know, in the most constructive way possible, when the mess up.

    3- Get some perspective.

We're playing a video game on a computer over a world-wide information net from home with people across the country and across the world. Think about that. We have it so good that we can fart around on the computer and not worry about starving to death.

We were clearing houses in Asadabad, Afghanistan (NE Afghanistan near the Paki border). We were in a house that had a hole in the floor of the kitchen. Figuring it would be a great place to hide weapons we checked it out. Do you know what was in the hole? Feces, human feces. The family went No. 2 in their kitchen because that was the fuel that they used to light their cooking fire. We didn't immediately smell it because they had all kinds of animals in the house with them. I think about that every time I get angry or frustrated with something that happens to me. Trust me it helps.

    4- ALL CAPS

Don't write in ALL CAPS. It makes you look like a moron. In novels they use ALL CAPS to show you how annoying a sound is such as alarms or crazy people screaming at the top of their lungs. Use italics or [/b]bold[/b], instead. Bold makes you look like a virile stud that can lift Volkswagens over your head. Italics makes you look like a genius thats only a few days away from curing cancer or AIDS. If you use both bold and italics, well, there are no words for how awesome you would be.

Using ALL CAPS in an ironic fashion is, of course, ok.

    5- speling, Grammer (and punkchooashun).

Now, in no way am I a grammar Nazi. Most here are not, either. Just take a couple moments to make sure that you didn't spell anything too jacked up. It makes you look as though you took the time to make sure that your point comes across rather than jabbing at your keyboard with your one good finger while picking your nose with the other hand. This leads me to my next point-

    6- Paragraphs.

Use them. Split your posts up a little. If you ever want to "win" an online debate just throw down your "Wall of Text" card (2 white, 2 generic 0/7 and makes owner immune to trample damage). You'll definitely get the last word in (and a hearty chuckle as you can watch your opponent's eyes glaze over). But your post won't get read. Kinda defeats the purpose doesn't it?

    7- Offer solutions.

In the words of an old Platoon Sergeant, "If you have a complaint, make a suggestion. Otherwise it's just complaining." He used more colorful language than that, of course, but you get the gist.

"But we have offered solutions," you say, "They devs just aren't listening to us." Funny you should that. That leads me into the next two points.

    8- Patience is a virtue.

But getting stuff right now is more fun. I'm sure if Castle, BAB and the rest could wave a magic wand and fix all of the bugs, issues, and everything else we complain about they would. Unfortunately the only place magic wands exist is inside the games we play (and some decent novels).

The fact of the matter is that I have no idea how difficult or complex making a game is. But, I do have an idea how potentially a pain in the butt some of those fixes can be. When dealing with military software, you'll occasionally get a fix for a bug in the program. Once you install it you'll find out that the patch broke two other things that worked just fine before. It makes you wonder if they do it on purpose or not. And that's for something that I don't pay for and I'm forced to use. I couldn't imagine having to deal with that for something I pay for and use for fun!

    9- Conspiracy theories

Let's drop them, ok? The devs don't want you to stop playing the game (they'll be out of a job). They don't hate villains. They don't sit around lighting cigars with hundred dollar bills laughing at what rubes we all are (they light them with 20 dollar bills and then only chuckle).

All I know is that if you were to accuse me of some or all of those things I'd add you to my ignore list too. Again, that would be self-defeating, wouldn't it?

10- This is our community! And by extention, our game.

Like it says above, this is our community. Whether its a good or bad community is the result of our actions, individually and taken as a whole. Lets start taking a more active role to ensure the game takes the direction that we the customers want it to take. There are right ways to do that and I ennumerated only a few.
  12. Gelu_Procellus

    So uhh

How do I get people to draw pictures of my characters? How much is the usual price? Sorry if this breaks some sort of faux pas but I'm really impressed by the artwork here. I'd like to get in on the action (from a philantropist standpoint as I can't draw to save my soul.)
