Yeah I was about to count the costume pieces for this year and last year when the majority of current boosters appeared. But then again all of them should be calculated starting from first issue that introduced more costumes, I reckon. To see a trend I mean.
But I don't know what to do with the power customization options. I had this discussion before as far as I can recall. Some people say they're costumes, some don't. Then again the power customization excludes some ATs. :/ -
Quote:I haven't really seen anyone who has been critical about boosters being hyperbolic. Even in the party pack thread majority of the people who were against it had reasonable and well thought out arguments, for example Tommy Troy.More like calling a spade a spade than a Straw man. Every time someone invokes "the suits" or "Marketing" and complains about how we have to pay now when we didn't before, it's really not any different than the terms Nethergoat used. Just different codewords for the same concept.
Nethergoat isn't engaging the Hyperbolic drive, he's just pointing out when people crank it to Ludicrous Speed.
Granted I could've worded my initial post way better and that was my fault. I didn't really mean to convey a concept that everything used to be free.
However I do not agree that the rate has been the same all the time coming up until this current point. -
Quote:Fair enough, yes I understand there's been a mixture of paid and free costume options. But to me it just seems that the focus lately has been on paid costume pieces. I had forgotten the animated tails, that was my bad, but when comparing the options offered with monthly payment and separate payments, I still see a difference in amount and quality.That isn't what I said.
Here, I'll elaborate:
There has never been a time in the history of the game where we got all these awesome free costume parts, in contrast to the dark current regime where we get nothing free and have to pay for everything.
We've pretty much always gotten a mix of free and premium costume bits.
The pretense that we've ever played in some sort of Free Costume Utopia and that paying for stuff is some grotesque modern invention is patently untrue.
But why all the hyberbole? I haven't seen anyone else talk about "dark current regime" "rainbows" or "golden times." Sounds almost like a straw man. -
Quote:Ok, I just remembered it was during year 2008, without thinking about the actual date not to mention to look it up, that was my bad. I had completely forgotten animated tails, again that was my bad. I'm a little bit skeptic about issue 16, then again I play VEATs.december 3 2008 was issue 13's release date, not quite two years. and this is one of those touchy points, because costumes auras, effects, weapons and power/animation customizations are all things that have come, over time, to be part of total customization, each element could be considered an option, and in that case issue 16 carried a motherload of new options, and issue 19 is bringing more, and lets not forget that issue 17 did finally bring animated tails and issue 18 was basically the chair that a paid expansion sat on. So, it becomes a very strained argument when those things are excluded from free things that we have gotten over the years. we have gotten numerous customization options in addition to just costume pieces, but the field has expanded so much that we really cant say just "costume pieces" any more, it really is a bigger concept now.
Issue 17, had the most recent costume pieces I had, but again, paid update, not included withint monthly subscription. Of course I look forward to next issue hoping it can remedy.
But yeah, my bad for forgetting some of the costume pieces. I however still feel that majority of the costume sets and good looking pieces have been with paid expansions.
I don't want to be harsh to anybody, but "so what?" I'm not entitled to be slightly displeased without buying a booster pack? I haven't bought a booster pack, true. But that doesn't mean I have entirely canceled out the possibility of buying one. I think some of the options here and there in within the booster packs look nice, for example hoods in magic pack. -
Quote:I think this was covered in one of the Party Pack threads, or another relevant thread.I'm curious about costume addition history now, how often we've been getting them in regular issues compared to boosters, how many are locked behind specific content goals or badges or whatever, how many are tied to seasonal events, how many pieces have been removed from the game entirely or swapped out for "updated" models... hmm. But that would be a matter for another thread.
Just off the top of my head, only couple of costume pieces have been removed. The hairy shoulders and Wyvern boots. Yes there used to be Wyvern boots for a brief period, but they only appeared under "pants" option. But then again I believe the entire thing was a mishap. Office belt was removed for a brief period, again a mishap.
Only altered costume piece I can think of is the gladiator shoulder option. Also one of the Roman chest detail armors were altered in the current issue. I tend to pay attention to details in this game, like ragdolls and textures.
As for issues with costume pieces, well, going back from i13 pretty much. Of course some of the additions weren't groundbreaking, like new hairstyles.
Edit:
Quote:oh you mean never?
This imaginary golden age of a rainbow in every pot and free ponies for everyone sure would've been awesome.....if it ever existed.
To be honest, I don't even know why I'm commenting this. -
Quote:True. However i13 was approximately 3 years ago and I believe by 2005 you refer to CoV which was acceptable "costume pieces and other perks" that I was willing to pay for. Technically in year 2004 they had collectors edition which had the DVD-cape exclusive, but calling it a booster is probably stretching a little bit. Again, nothing against people who wish to purchase boosters, but I don't believe anyone had that assumption about my posts to begin with.i know i keep running into this fallacy in every thread and eventually i'll stop bothering to point it out, but i've been continuously subscribed to CoH since issue 0, and there have been paid packs that added additional costume pieces and other perks since at least 2005.
There have been occasional releases of a bunch of free costume pieces, the civilian/day job pieces being the most recent that comes to mind, but there was never some sort of golden age where all new costume sets were gratis and supplied with every issue.
However I still long to issues like "Invasion" with Stealth,Vanguard,Exoproto and 4-5 (can't remember) new contacts and a task force (but that's besides the cosmetics.) I believe there were costume pieces included in at least 2 or 3 of the issues when counting back from i12 or i13. So that's what keeps bothering me, but I guess that's the nature of my "fallacy."
Just saying.
Edit: typos.... -

To be more specific- this is not quite as useless as the Party Pack, but it's still nothing I'll be paying money for.
I see the micro transactions business model is going strong, but it's probably not the devs I should be thanking for this. Remember the times when this used to be included with the monthly payment. Never bought a booster pack before and this pack doesn't really change things.
Edit: Seriously? 10 bucks? That's the price? -
The reason why me (and possibly others in the thread) think DDR is appropriate is the defense oriented nature of Bane. That's why I think it's a little bit of an underdog when other defense sets are considered.
Banes get resistance, but even when fully slotted the armors don't offer that much resistance. -
Oh cool, this subject popped up again, been some time since I read SOA forums.
Small improvements I'd include in banes;
-DDR
-Tweak the bane/gun redraw animations
Being able to pick which weapon is drawn on BU/Surveilance, or just make the animations like darkest night and brawl (doesn't draw weapon when used, but doesn't put it away either)
Then other stuff I was thinking about once, was giving surveilance -to hit or a self heal "panic power".
Can't comment much on the mace blasts, since I've only played a melee and gun builds. I did skip majority of the blasts on the melee build though, because they weren't very good. -

Nvm, I missed the text during Comic Con where they told there was going to be alternative text for primal earth heroes and villains.
I thought these were purely primal earth-related arcs. Sorry, that was my bad. El Ou El. -
Quote:The Leviathan and Medi-port arcs, too?They are building up the Praetorian story.
The next group of missions should be 30-40 and then 40-50 (possibly 40-45 and 45-50) unless they subdivide further.
Nah I was just wondering why new story arcs don't appear on 30s, 40s or...well, 50s. I mean is there a screaming lack of things to do on 20s or what? -
-
-
I'm going to laugh out loud if the new story arcs are 15-20 or 20-25.
-
Excellent work Scooter.
Good to see that you got a hold of my char pictures, I thought that the url's had become expired or something.
I really like the picture, reminds me of Sin City or something. The TAR-21 is also a nice touch, I wish my gunbane could use a weapon like that. -
Quote:Thank you for the link.
Oh, and here is the link for the US version of the expansion
By the way, do I get access to GR and alignment missions now, even though I haven't pre-ordered or is the GR "soft launch" just for the people who pre-ordered? -
Hello,
I finally got around purchasing the GR, but I have a small problem.
When I log on to NCsoft store, it only gives me Eu version of the game.
While I live in Finland and have one Eu version of the game already, I switched to NA servers 2 years ago, so buying European version is not an option.
This is the catalogue of items I get when trying to purchase.
What am I doing wrong? -
Speaking of finnish, I had quite a fun time trying to explain my foreign colleagues the differences between some of the finnish words that sound and look similiar.
For example words such as;
muuta = other/else
muuttaa = to change
muta = mud
mutta = but
mutaa = mud (partitive form of the word, so technically not a different word) -

Quote:Agreed, even though it gets better after the lvl 24 transition, it's still a huge pain in the *** to play. Personally there are only few things more painful than that; DP corruptor and a pre-IO dominator.Leveling a solder from 1-24 was one of the worst and unfun game experiences I have ever suffered through.
As a whole, I'd say No. -
Oh so that's the guy's name.
I've done Infiltrator badge on 4 toons now in Fab and I've seen the same MM camping the doors there 90% of the time. That explains. -
Quote:Yeah that's the reason why our speed run teams tend to consist heavily of SOA. Some of them are pretty good at ghosting, too.Hmm, with that, then I guess that SoA are just plain good for any TF/SF, if they have leadership, then I bet they can make any team overpowered by far.
Also, there is no time, your sword is enough. -
I've got few screenshots of ragdoll physics gone wrong, all the way from i6.
So yeah, Ragdoll's gone wrong;
Tender moment;
Breakdancing COT (fun fact; the enemy is completely still in the picture, not falling or anything);
Burns at groin area;
Crazy deaths,
Death by parking meter
Fan accident
-
I've got a silly request; can we get the previous ragdoll physics back? I'm talking about the i16 ones. The new ones just plain suck, because the movement span is too short and ragdoll movement too stiff.
