So.... any other ideas? This is getting really frustrating.
That is now going ot make it harder to track down. The 2 most common causes for the "sudden lag when using AoE/affecting lots of targets at same time" was either the chat log or MSE.

As you run Avast, can you just exclude the CoX process/directory from real time scanning (if you have it enabled).

CBZ is more more widely supported amongst portable comic readers though. Most will read CBR but i do know of a few that can choke on it (on a non regular occurance)

    NCsoft.com Purchase Receipt

Newer e-mails will have the subject of:

    NCsoft Serial Code Applied
I use google to pick up my mail account from 3 different providers (2 from my own domain, and one MSN pick up), as well as the standard Gmail email.

The *only* thing that I would point out...

Make sure that you check your junk mail if you do not recieve the emails.

Some people have found their "confirmation" email within their MSN junk mail. You need to ensure that MSN/Hotmail is setup to accept email from NCsoft as *not* junk.

Now, TIME CARDS, yes. You get the code for those in the e-mail from the store. I know this because I just applied a time card to a secondary account to keep it up long enough to qualify for the Vanguard goodies.

But things bought directly through the NCSoft store NEVER EVER display the item codes in their entirety.

So asking people to provide these is ludicrous.
    Correction:

They are NOT displayed on your NCsoft account page.

They ARE however displayed in one of the 2 reciept emails that you get from NCsoft whenever you buy a booster pack from them.

You get one listing the *purchase* of it...

And then you get another listing the *Code* and which account it was applied to.

These emails get sent to the registered email account on your NCSoft master account page.

I know this because of the 30+ emails I have from Ncsoft.
  8. If you allow the launcher to run in the taskbar when "closed/minimized" then it will still keep on downloading patches.

The other two, it *appears* that it might have quickly checked what it had (ie assumed nothing), then realised that something was there and carried on. Similar to how some download software with autoresume works.

First, let me answer a few of your questions. Residentx10 and Resident_EU are the same person. Some times I'm in the Uk too...it depends on the EPL play :-)
Ah ha, makes a bit more sense then

    Quote:
Second, I don't really care about the EU whether it's small or large. I can tell when I play but other than that I could care less. I joined the EU servers to get different play, it's been frustrating but I'm think I'll get over the hump in mid march.
Join some of the global channels. Which server do you play on mainly? I know for one that Union Chat and sals badgehunters are good channels to join if you are looking for people to team with (union wise). Defiant Channels, not so sure on.

    Quote:
Third, I didn't realize the EU was left alone. When I play I noticed you guys get cossie codes(which we don't get in the NA) so I thought everything was in order/balanced.
This is the big one. And i mean *REALLY* big one. Ever since they downsized the Brighton office (and as a result lost some *REALLY* good staff members) we (the EU players) have been left in the lurch.

The ONLY public facing member of staff who was kept on was Avatea, and that was because she was *able* to move over to the US at that point in time. There were also fewer jobs in total available for all the staff (some people no matter what would have been let go)

It didn't help the matters as well that they let the Creative Concepts team go as well (Stephen "Rockjaw" Reid, James "Spaff" Spafford and Chris "Aero" Siddel). Granted, Rockjaw is now head of Community for the Bioware MMO, and Spaff is head of community for Medial Molecule (Little Big Planet), so they were able to move onwards and upwards.

We also lost 2 other Community Guys in Ghostraptor and Kerensky (German CM). I keep on forgetting the French one (Palladium i *think*) but i know that he moved on to Lineage 2 Community. Avatea (the lovely multi linguist that she is) was able to cover for them... although obviously 1 person struggles to do the job of 3 (not a knock on Avatea, but its true)

Rockjaw was the main one for organising ALL the EU evnts (not that there were many, but just as the ball was starting to roll, the whole team was let go). Right after the player meet in 2008 at the Omega Sektor there was talk of holding one the following year at the same venue. It had gone that well (especially considering that they only had 6 weeks to arrange everything in).

Then the Omega Sektor closed down just a few months later.

With *few* player based exceptions, the only time we get cossie codes are when they give them away to both EU and the US players as competition prizes. There have been *NO* Paragon Studios organized "meet and greets"/presentations full stop over here in the EU (Although with a *possible* exception of GamesCom 2011 in Cologne... but, y'know that is actually an Industry event as well... so lots of "behind closed doors" stuff happens that the public cannot see).

Not to mention as well that last year 254,000 people showed up for it, so it *isnt* the ideal place for a "meet and greet". Its VERY loud there.

Infact, about the *only* cossie code that I can think that is possibly unique to the EU right now is the "ghoul" costume code (awarded for attending last years player meet). It might have been awarded to US players for some reason or another, i do not know.

    Quote:
Forth, cybercafe's have never really taken off here in the US except in the large cities. I don't mean to sound like I'm negative but I was mainly curious about the event. The EU is big place, so when I saw the notice I wondered how you could all fit in a cybercafe. Also, do most users in the EU visit a cybercafe to play CoH? This would answer another question I've wondered about since I joined. When does everyone come online? I saw a lot during double xp weekend but I have not seen many since then.
Cybercafe's havent taken off all that well over here. Again, mainly in the big cities where people who might not have net access for any reason can quickly check their emails/surf for a couple of hours.

Very few players (if any) actually visit a cybercafe over here to play online games (unless it is indeed a "player meet") at least here in the UK. I know that the Omega Sektor had this issue when it wasnt running an event, in that there werent necessarily enough people going through the doors to keep it open.

Cybercafe gaming though is more of a Chinese/South Korea thing though. There are the economic/social reasons for that though.

In terms of "when do people come online"... mainly in the early evening EU timewise (So around 18:00 UK time till 00:00 UK time). I would probably place the "peak" game time at around 20:00 GMT/BST. You might have some server variation on this, but as i dont play on Vigilence/Zukunft its hard to say.

To make it more EU'centric, we could have researched for a venue in France/Germany, but when I *KNOW* that the UK has a FAAAR larger player base, it makes sense not to make it *harder* to attend unless it is for a *very* special reason (GamesCon in Cologne is the only one I can think of).

Now, if PAX *ever does* run an event over here in the EU (rumours of it possibly happening) then i SERIOUSLY hope that Paragon Studios makes the effort to attend.

Sounds strange, but since Paragon Studios formed, they have *NOT* been over to the EU in force for ANY event. We have had War Witch show up for 1 event since Paragon Studios were formed (Omeka Sektor 2008). Since then, nothing, nada, niet.

This isn't a dig at you, but you Americans are *really* lucky with all the events that you have over in the US where Paragon Studio's show up.

We EU players get only what we can arrange ourselves now...

*Side note: The EU base did use to have player meets at Comic Cons when NCsoft Europe attended those as well... but since the downsizing/downgrading/gutting of the EU office, NCsoft haven't bothered to attend those either.

Which is a shame, because we also had good ties with the "Draw The World Together" guys, and you could get character sketches done by several comic book artists (Andrew Wildman, Andie Tong, Neil Edwards, Karl Kopinski and others) Gallery for more

The EU *used* to be very good for player meets with the US side dragging behind in terms of "official" ones (Some might say that was more due to the community staff organising them than anything else)

    Now its the flip side...

*2nd Side note: If you hadnt noticed as well, the EU side have been screwed in general for boxed versions of new releases of the game. The last one was "Good Vs Evil"... 4 years ago.

*3rd note: There have been general rumblings *since* the decimation of the EU office, that the EU players are viewed as "2nd Class Citizens" of the game. Hell, we are pushing (and have been for quite a while) of a merger of the server lists as well... (for better or for worse it would bring the communities closer together).

And yes, I know exactly whats going on with 3 of the people I know. But I don't feel me exlaining that to you will help their situation. My point is, other steps could have been put into place instead of what we have now. Support told one fo the 3 people having this issue "Tough!, if you can't provide the information we ask for, you can not gain access to your account" And that person is a 78 month vet player. Guess it doesn't matter though because either way, this person will be going to play another game because of the flaws of the security system, and her not being able to provide the information they are asking for.

I see this trend happening with many people, too bad NcSoft will be losing even more money over this.
Strangely enough, i *do* know people who managed to get access back to their account even though they didnt have the original CD key.

Instead they put down the costume pack codes that they had bought (and KEPT the reciepts of).

And it doesnt matter if you have been playing the game for 10 years or 1 months, you should all be treated the same.

30-40 people showed up, and not all just from the UK.

Now this is part of the problem of the EU side in general, our player base is small (some would say very small in comparison to the US side.. tiny in fact)

The last OFFICIAL player meet (held in 2008 at the Omega Sektor which is now closed down) only drew around 300 people tops over the (4 day) weekend, and not all of them were english... there were also regular customers of the venue as well that get included into the figure.

Hell, of course we could do just nothing and have NO events at all, full stop... especially as the Brighton office is now not game orientated, and instead marketing/sales based.

Unlike you guys in the US where you DO have several events a year where you can go and meet the dev's... even community staff... we have nothing to look forward to, even though there is an NCsoft office in the UK.

If anything, just view this as an "open" Server meet... but with an EU slant. (Although which server of Union and Defiant would it be? Hard to say as we have people from BOTH sides going)

And please dont belittle us. Yes, we *know* that the venue is small, but seeing as *most* venues as well that *I* looked at required a £500 deposit, before we could even *book* the venue for the weekend; its something that we (the organisers) just cannot afford right now, and we didnt want to force people to pay up NOW (waaaay waaay in advance) for it either.

The event is open to all. Hell, you are welcome over and join us. The more the merrier I say.

Local players? What you mean those who are travelling from Newcastle, Brighton, Cardiff (and even a couple of possible from Europe).

Is the location a problem for you?

If it is, then try to find a *central* location where many people can easily get to it (There was a larger location in Halesowen BUT not easily accessible, especially for those in wheelchairs... and with only one place within walking distance to stay).

Is it the time of month that was available?

If it is, then fair enough, but I know the organiser wanted to avoid bank holidays (due them already being booked and unable to shift UNLESS you wanted to shift the booking of 5000 other players). So *some* self interest was here... but we also wanted it to be possible for some NCSoft staffers to show up.

We *KNOW* that they cannot make most of the weekends in August due to Games Conventions.

Is it because *most* of the players who showed up seemed to be from RP side of the game?

Well... it was 1st of all notified in the RP channels to gauge interest, and those who were interested are down already...

Now, saying that THIS is on the main EU board (NOT server specific board) so anyone who is interested can put their name down and show up.

    Oh, as an idea....

Last years player meet was also held in the same location, organised by the same person.

    Thanks for being so caring.

  19. Totally possible.
    • Let the installer start (including setting up the custom directory).
    • Let it run for a minute or 2.
    • Stop it
    • Copy over your pigg files (and custom files etc).. basically contained within the folders of the game directory but NOTHING outside of it
    • Right click the game in the NCsoft launcher and Choose "Consistency check"
    • Let the game download the missing files.
I did this to just clean up both of my CoX install directory as it had 2 launcher files, and 2 CoX programs... And i hate messy directories

BUT... strangely enough, i never my security questions up for that, and infact the login page NEVER asked me for it.

I know someone who set one of their security questions as "ZOMG??"

Granted they set it up 7 years ago, but hell, they got boned on it right now.

Now, imagine if your account *had* been compromised legitimately. Yep, you would have had ALL the same problems

Note: A friend of mine lost access to his NCsoft *master* account quite a few years ago, and as a result also his CoX account. A friend has set up the account, and without notifying anyone, changed all of the login details.

So whilst my friend could still play the game (as long as the account didnt slip), he couldnt change any of the details, and obviously not knowing the security questions, couldnt login to resolve the problems. Even worse... the 2 people arent talking to each other anymore...

NCsoft (and this was about 3 years ago) wouldnt budge on letting him into the account, even though he was the one who was paying for it.

This is why NCsoft also dont like people setting accounts up in someone elses name generally speaking

I'm thinking there should be no functional difference between the listings of Oreily that I posted above.
The problem is though, is that if a system allows punctuation to be entered, then the rule should be *stuck* to (for entered data).

Your O'Reilly/OReilly/oreilly/o'reilly example is poor in this case. Because otherwise *for a computer system* you are telling it accept a lot of different answers for one (for something that respects punctuation AND case).

If on the other hand the system is to not allow ANY punctuation and to IGNORE case, then yes, they are the same... (assuming that the system just ignores punctuation and doesnt replace it with a space).

Now, for a HUMAN to confirm these details (depending on their own rules) if you say "O'reilly".

    What is the difference between

    Thomas

    Thomas

There is a difference, and a computer system will pick up on the difference, although visually there is no difference. If someone wants to make their security answers harder, they should be allowed. BUT the problem is that you are taking that option away from them.

*edit* dammit, the forum software didnt allow my example to show properly, but it *does* have several spaces after it when i edit the post....

If you launch a program *directly* from inside its directory, it wont show up via steam showing that you are playing it.

I can launch Dragon Age (which i bought on steam, and is in my steam directories) directly, without Steam tracking that I have played it.
