You can do this part starting at level 1.

    Q/R here,

Since Lord Recluse already has a foothold in the zone does anyone think it would be possible to give red-side a slightly revamped version of Faultline?

Perhaps only allow them into the dam side first and unlock the rest piece by piece as they complete more of a story arc?

(I might of missed a few posts here and there so I apologize if this has already been sugested.)

    [/ QUOTE ]
You mean create a whole new "instance" of Faultline that is only accessible to villains, and has a villain-specific set of contacts and story arcs?

That's not a bad idea, actually.

And they could probably do the same for Striga, Croatoa, the Shards, etc...

Of course, some will say it's yet another example of Villains only getting Heroes' "hand me downs", but if it's done right with new missions and story content, I believe the majority of villain players would be pleased.

I was thinking something similar, only do it with a revamp of Boomtown for both sides. Then have several maps of Boomtown (5 different ones), loaded anew perhaps once a day or once a week, showing changes based on missions done by each side. Make it sort of an indirect conflict between each side: heroes completing more objectives in the zone vs villains doing the same means use the "heroes are winning" map (less destruction, more construction), but if villains have done more than use the "villains are taking over" map (more destruction, or perhaps the reconstructed areas on the north side are seedier looking.. like the Rogue Isles, without Arachnos influences). The five maps would be 1) heroes winning a lot, 2) heroes winning more, 3) neutral, 4) villains winning more, 5) villains winning a lot.

    Cryptic article.

Tell me, how many console gamers use keyboards to chat with their PC counterparts in an MMO? Whoops ... not many, huh? Nothing like trying to grow a community of superhero mutes. This is only ONE challenge in many to come because some propeller-head, bean counter decided to merge console gamers with PC gamers in an MMO.

*sigh* And I think CoH is too quiet as it is now (not counting AP, and even then that zone is at times). Teams are quiet, with sometimes "GJ", "over there", "<buff> plz", messages, all of which can be pointed to and clicked on.

I hate superjump, but it is, hands down, the best all around travel power there is.

Super Jump is, for all practical reasons, the best travel power there is....which is why I have it on my tank.

Yes, and yes. 9 times out of 10, no matter the zone, SJ will get you to the mission door first.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And what do you win when you get to the door first? Nothing.

You can wait for me while I take my time cruising high above the city.

    Up, up, into the sky.

Every one of my characters takes it, except one who has SJ: my only catgirl who likes to pounce on things .

My avatar shows my MA/SR scrapper, Cinnammon, after a MA attack while flying (I can never remember which one). I love that pose. Going the Fly option also showed me the power of Air Superiority, which I had never taken until then (always took Hover for all my ranged blastery types).
  6. I'm not much for CCGs. I did get into Warlord, and got out about two years later. I hate tournaments, I'm more of a casual player. I was not going to get into the CoH CCG, but hearing about its simplicity, and that you can create a legal-to-play hero card of your MMO toon made me give it a try. As someone told me, you can actually learn how to play the game by just reading the rules, unlike some CCGs . Someone mentioned that there are no deck building rules or guidelines and I checked, there aren't any or I missed them.

The normal game is one hero vs. another hero in some sort of arena matchup. You start with your hero in play, along with the hero's two starting powers for the printed named heroes, who have special abilities, or three starting powers for the generic heroes. A hero you create from the cardbuilder website can be used, and it is legal for tournament play IF you have the printed generic hero of the same AT. I got all five of those now.

Not all of the powersets, or all of the powers, are available with the first set. The expansion set should complete it. Villains may come at some later date. But, there are additional powers called signature powers, which are unique to the printed heroes and come with the hero in the battlepack.

It seems that this CCG plays well for multiplayer games instead of just the 1 on 1. I've been working on a Task Force type game, where a team of heroes takes on an AV. I've yet to test this out but will do so soon at my local FLGS (the one I own, even. ). I have a feeling that this type of game might be a special event at the big conventions, and may be special tournaments that can be played at any local FLGS. Something similar was done for Warlord (i.e., Overlord, Dragonlord, Medusanlord events).

I've been playing PnP games since about '78. Now I own a game store. Happy happy joy joy! (bit of advice: don't expect to make much money at it.. own your Corvette BEFORE getting the game store.. )

    [/ QUOTE ]

If I were mean and spiteful and trollish, I'd make some comment to the effect that if the game you were playing since '78 was D&D, then you hadn't been playing RPG's. But I'm really a nice guy so I won't.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But you did make the post. You also made a very wrong assumption, I never mentioned what games I've played over the years. And, you make another wrong assumption, and as others have said, role-playing isn't tied to the game mechanics. I've had many good role-playing times with D&D.

And no, I have not just played D&D. I've played, and sometimes GM'd Traveller, Space Opera, Cyberpunk, Champions (now Hero), Runequest, the first d6 Star Wars game, GURPS, Rolemaster, Savage Worlds, WoD at a con (fans were making this out to be the next big thing.. eh), Dragonstorm (a card-based RPG), and there might be one or two I've forgotten. Then there's the temporary role-playing one does when one is the captain of a Klingon battlecruiser in a miniature-using spaceship combat game ("Today is a good day to die, so die!" bzzzt goes the dozen disruptors into that Federation cruiser ).

Role-playing is in the play of the game, not the game's mechanics.

Now, I just would like CoX to have more RPing opportunities than just standing around chatting or having specialized keybinds with particular phrases. Activities that the toons can do besides beat on mobs, but there's a lot of other posts asking the same thing; sadly, less than the number of posts wanting more costume options.
  8. [ QUOTE ]

So, it kind of begs the question as to who's going to be the next big thing. The initial reports from D&DO seem to be pretty conflicted -- good for PnPers, bad for MMO-experienced gamers. One wonders how Warhammer Online is coming along, and if White Wolf is getting their [censored] in gear.

    [/ QUOTE ]

DDO is more for PnPers? Sign me up!

Seriously, my D&D-gaming friends are talking about getting this and forming a party for one night a week. I'm hesitant as I'm one to hate paying the subscription fee (Runescape was the first for me to pay for, but $5 a month is cheap enough... now CoH is making my wallet scream at me but I've tuned it out. ).
