  1. Because I like punching women and hearing them scream before they hit the floor?

OK, that was just wrong, I do because I like punching clowns.
  2. When I get home I'll try to remember to post my build, it is SO's only, and there are a couple of things I would change.

From what I seem to notice if you are not using IOsets, it will be moments of pure godly awesomeness bracketed by aggro generating tissue paper, see diagram below.

That being said, it is still worth it and the most fun toon I play.

For the nit pickers... of course if you time and use your skills in a logical fashion it is not quite as bad as I portray it. this post is what I call a Gabrielism... an overstatement to make a point...

I'm going for 5 attacks. Hopefully that'll be enough.

Also, I'd be very interested to see your build.
From what I understand you need better than mag 10 KB protection to be a reliable tank. and I also have heard that -8 KB is no better than -4.

I crammed CJ Manuevers and Weave into my build for the +def and just threw an extra slot for the Karma KB prot into each one, because I spent too much time on my *** using Grounded as my only -KB.

Without CJ, Manuevers and Weave I was a tough resistance tank, but I didn't "feel" tanky enough, green insps were still necessary. With CJ, Manuevers and Weave greens are largely usless to me. If it gets too bad I can eat a small purp and be fine. If the defecation really hits the ventilation, I can pop a medium purp and laugh.

As my attacks I have charged brawl, taunt, thunderstrike, chain induction, and lightning rod.

As far as my build goes I'd be more than happy, but at work I don't have access to mids, and when I get home I don't hit the forums, so I forget. I'll try to remember to post it so everyone can point and giggle. I really am not that good at creating builds, I just do what works for me and what I enjoy.

I have an Elec/Elec tanker at level 38, and I would say there are 2 powers from your primary that you can skip, Grounded and Power Surge. Grounded only works when you are very near the ground (infact walking up stairs with CoT around has left me laying on my ***) and I think you get better -KB by dropping a karma -KB into CJ, Weave, and Manuevers.

As far as Power Surge goes, I hate crash buttons. By incorporating CJ, Manuevers, Tough and Weave into my build and using only SO's my resistance is almost capped and defense is above 15% high enough to really make a difference.

A limitation of my build is I am running 8 toggles and and only have 4 attacks besides taunt. I am an end hog and rely on Power Sink to stay in the fight. In fact when I have less than 2 enemies by me I need to hunt more or I'm gonna eat dirt. My focus was an AoE build to farm +2/8 missions hopefully with some inexpensive slotting and practice I can do even better than that.

I did the same thing, with lightning reflexes and swift both 3 slotted, my ninja run is at 67mph my last power pick will be SJ asI can't find anything to provide me with better utility, and the vertical travel will be nice once I hit 50.

It's not that I "want" to be an offtank, it is just that lacking in defense I can't take an alpha well. When I tank (and I think I'm a good tank) I try to herd small enough groups that that I can easily handle the incoming damage 10-12 on +2 missions and 6-8 on +4. My biggest problem is in groups where I cannot herd or generate enough aggro to hold the mob due to the other archetypes firing hold, blasting high knockback high damage nukes, and scrappers running willy nilly chasing every mob across the map before I have a chance to get them all balled up.

When I have those things happen, usually the group catches other spawns. Then when I do start to grab aggro, to protect the squishies, there are too many for me to handle the incoming damage. Then I fold faster than superman on laundry day.

In a good group I can generally hold 10-12 enemies on +4 missions safely due to group buffs.

of course I HATE Tox spiders... ow...

as far as the KB protection goes, is it possible to get sufficient KB protection with inexpensive frakenslotting, or do I need to shoot for the set bonuses, and prepare to drop cash?
  9. Realistically, what can I expect to get for defense %'s using basic IO's?

Right now I am thinking CJ, weave, and manuevers. At level 50 with level 50 IO's that is just over 15% defense, is it really worth it? and what should I be shooting for on defense.

I am not doing grounded, I will probably drop a -KB IO in CJ will that provide the -KB I need?

At lvl 36 my resistances are 79%

do I need to get them higher?

My idea is to have an AoE tank, with lightning field, thunder strike, chainshock and lightning rod. Obviously with elec armor there are issues with defense, the concept is an offtank with significant AoE attacks to protect the squishies and to be able to stand in for a short while if the Main Tank goes down.

I don't have access to MID's at work, this after noon I'l post what I am working with sofar.
  10. This might not be the right place for this, but as I play a scrapper I'll ask here...

Is "ninja run" affected by hurdle and swift?

I would say that if the size of the pedestrians were scaled to the cars and player characters it would look more like CoM (city of midgets). In every game I have played scale has been off. Terrain is always too large (to compensate for camera angles) and NPCs are either too large, or look tiny compared to the terrain.

That being said look at a pedestrian next to a streetsign then go stand next to one IRL... Scale it's a matter of perspective...

I do however agree that the sense of scale dose at times feel off in COH/V.

Acctually in the US average residential doors are 6'8" and average commercial doors are 7'. I'm 6'8" IRL (in sock feet) and with my shoes I duck through most residential doors. However I will say that the devs most definately don't pay that much attention to scale.

I understand why though, due to 3rd person viewing everything would feel very cramped if scale were accurate.

I thought I would post my planned build, she is 37 atm and this is what I am shooting for, please critique it, and shoot it full of holes, I have no sets, just basic IO's

I have really been enjoying it. My biggest mistake is to forget to use Singularity... especially since I can stand in it if soloing and have an end free repel.

On that line of thought, is it rude to have singy out while grouping? I have gotten some comments about the knockback, so I generally don't have it out while grouped. but I feel like I am ignoring free hold/damage when I don't have it out.

As an aside, wormhole slotted with acc rech and stun is AWESOME unless you fat-finger it and throw the enemies somewhere you didn't intend. (I usually try to get them to land at the feet of the tank.)

    Grav/Kin

I am new to controllers, and I chose Grav Kin because I liked the concept, and even named her Bia (In Greek mythology, Bia (Ancient Greek: Βία, English translation: "Force") was the personification of force, daughter of Pallas and Styx. She was the sister of Nike, Cratos, and Zelus; she and her siblings were constant companions of Zeus.)

I am loving playing her as a support crowd control and buffing character. because of this I have not taken lift or propel.

My first question is, Am I gimping here by leaving out those two powers?

I have not had a problem taking single +3 enemies (it takes a while, but I don't take a scratch) and with wormhole and GDF my crowd control seems very effective.

My second question is, Do hold/stun effects become less effective with consecutive application on the same enemy?
  16. heh shows what i know... I have been trying to educate myself, but I didn't know that MA effects could be changed... heh thanks for the input I'll look at BS and MA
  17. are there other sets that will work well for this besides KAT/ ? my dad really isn't into the whole samurai thing... he likes the idea of fistfighting or boxing... I dunno maybe any of the other sets with FX off would be better?
  18. I played CoH right after it released, and couldn't really get into it, so I set it aside. About a year ago I started a new account (lost the old account info) and have been enjoying playing my claws/regen. My dad is getting into it and built a spine/regen up to 29. However, he is struggling with death and managing the "clicky" aspect of regen and feels spines is pretty lackluster. I would like to suggest something easy and fun where he is durable and still feels like he can do damage.

Would a Kat/WP be a good suggestion? and are there other sets that could get him what he is looking for?
