Claws/Regen - Need Help (cant install mids - but not a tech question)

Well....I have made a scrapper (again).

This one is indeed a Claws/Regen (and he is already to level 8)

Does anyone have a good build they can throw my way (those of you practiced in the art of Mid Fu). I dont PvP (and have no interest in it).

Mostly Im looking for which (if any) powers to ignore and slotting suggestion.

(or if there is a thread with a good build already that you know about and can point me in the right direction).

I dont have (cant seem to get it to install) mids...so please post or send something that isnt in that giant column of random numbers format - because I wont be able to inport it and read it)

Thanks...

When I get home I'll try to remember to post my build, it is SO's only, and there are a couple of things I would change.

From what I seem to notice if you are not using IOsets, it will be moments of pure godly awesomeness bracketed by aggro generating tissue paper, see diagram below.

[takes a hit like a 9yr old girl]
DP
IH
Kicking ***!
MoG
Righteously kick ***!
Hasten
PURE GODLY AWESOMENESS!!!
MoG wears off
kicking ***!
IH wears off
DP wears off
[takes a hit like a 9yr old girl]
-waiting for recharge-

That being said, it is still worth it and the most fun toon I play.

For the nit pickers... of course if you time and use your skills in a logical fashion it is not quite as bad as I portray it. this post is what I call a Gabrielism... an overstatement to make a point...

Before I go about getting all build posty, I'm going to ask you what your budget is for the character. If you've got several billion just sitting around burning a hole in your pocket, I can set you up with a build that will blow your mind. If that's out of your price range, but you still want to get IO'd, I have builds for that too. If you're looking for a decent leveling IO build, I can post that one as well. It won't do you much good if I give you a build that's completely wrong for your budget/playstyle.

As for power suggestions, here's a breakdown: for */Regen, take everything but resilience and revive (if you really want to take resilience, do it late in your build when there is nothing else to take). FH shouldn't get much more than token attention. QR should get redzoned endmod. Integration should get redzoned heal enhancement asap. Recon and Dull Pain should both get redzoned on both recharge and heal. IH should get redzoned on recharge, and, if you have a couple spare slots lying around, give it a couple (though that's relatively low priority). MoG should get redzoned recharge and nothing else (the def and res values are so high it's completely pointless to slot them up).

For Claws/*, take either Swipe or Strike (not both and it doesn't really matter which you take) at level 1. Take FU and Focus asap. From then on, it gets a bit foggy because much of what you pick depends on what you don't want to take and how loose your build is. Optimally, you would want to take everything except for Swipe or Strike and Confront (which is only really useful in PvP), though you may have to choose. Spin and Shockwave are both excellent AoEs, but some people don't like Shockwave's knockback (which can be massively powerful if you know how to work it). Eviscerate is a decent fusion AoE/ST attack, and Slash is a nice attack to round out your ST attack string, but, if you take Eviscerate, you may not want to take Slash because Eviscerate can perform much the same ST function (you just have to wait a number of levels to get there) while still providing you with a good deal more in AoE situations. However you work it, you're going to want to slot any and all of those attacks with a decent bit of acc, redzoned damage, and as much recharge as you can pack in otherwise. Because you're Claws/Regen, you don't really need to worry about endurance much thanks to QR and Claws/*'s lower base end costs. My standard slotting for attacks is 1 acc/3 dam/2 rech (the low acc can pretty easily be made up with via FU).

For pool powers, Speed (for Hasten) and Fighting (for Tough/Weave) are a must for any */Regen. The usefulness of Fitness is debateable, because you're already packing QR, which is better than Stamina: if you do take Fitness, do it late in your build (mid-30s to 40s) when you start getting enough toggles (like FA) to drain your end quickly. Leaping (for CJ and SJ), Flight (for Hover and Fly), and Leadership (for Maneuvers and Tactics) are also excellent choices. Depending on your budget, I would recommend going with either Speed, Leaping, Fighting, and Fitness (SO build) or Speed, Leaping, Fighting and Leadership (IO build).

When picking your powers, the */Regen powers I mentioned earlier are pretty much always going to be the first thing you want to take. The Claws/* powers are going to be a close second. Prioritize your pool power picks based on how much you really need them (Hasten generally comes first, followed quickly by a trans power; Fighting generally gets taken in the mid-20s; Fitness should pretty much always wait til late when you already have plenty of powers).

You want Slash.

A) Your options are very limited at the level it opens up (level 2), and B) It is the only place your build allows you to slot an Achille's Heel -Res proc, which will help quite a bit with damage output against a single hard target like an AV or GM (and it will increase your entire team's damage, not just yours)

My opinion differs from Umbral's on Regen in one aspect: I like LOTS of passive regen on mine, so I slot certain powers more than Umbral suggests (like Fast Healing and Health, and PP to a point) My reasons are pretty simple: I don't like hitting my heals and forcing redraw when I'm only fighting minions. I prefer to keep my heals back for when I really need them. My almost 700% passive regen means I can keep Reconstruction ready to use after a big hit and not worry at all about the lots of little hits because my regeneration is more or less nullifying them by healing back right away.

Is it the best way to build a Regen? Not necessarily, but it works for me, so I stuck with it. My build manages to get similar performance to Umbral's cheaper build, and still gets close to 700% regen, so I managed to split the difference pretty good. (I think I'm around 675% or so, don't remember offhand)

There's a reason why I said you want to take all of the powers except for one of your level 1 picks and Confront. Slash is a nice attack, but, if you have to choose some fat to cut off from a really lean build, Slash can be cut. If you're running a really expensive top end build, it's even easier because, while Slash can run the AH proc for -res goodness, Eviscerate can run the Fury of the Gladiator proc for roughly the same contribution (and it can hit multiple targets, too). For reference, all of my Claws/Regen builds take both Eviscerate and Slash (they actually take everything except for Strike and Confront because, even if they're not used, they're still useful as set mules because so many good attack sets fit into the Claws/* attacks), so I'm not saying that it shouldn't be taken. I'm simply saying that sometimes choices have to be made.

To answer your questions...

I did take Strike and Slash (as he is only level 9 at the moment) and with Ninja run as a decent (at least it feels like it to me) travel power so far I cant see the build getting that tight.

As to influence to send I have roughly 30 mil or so between toons...(and I have my controller who is my main that is starting to bring in some cash).

Thanks in advance...

Umbral or ClawsandEffect - Would you mind posting your ideal 1 billion influ build? I would just like to see the best that can be done (rech, rech, def, rech) for that budget...and if it's best to aim for Melee (ToD, Oblits) or S&L (KinCombats) Defenses.

The melee defense sets are drasticaly cheaper at the moment (except for the Oblit quad) and I've been wanting to respec out of a cheaply IO'd build.

Here's something I just put together...kinda what I was aiming for.

Purely off of personal preference, I go with melee defense on */Regen Scrappers.

Here's my "moderate" IO build (i.e. no purps and no PvPs). I have no clue what the actual cost of it would be in influence, but it's probably what you're asking for.

Well, maybe a generic IO build.

You're not going to get more than 1 or 2 of the cheaper sets for 30 million.

TheXor: What you have looks pretty solid at first glance, but a couple changes I would make.

Swap the slotting of Slash and Follow Up. After you do that, replace the Bone Snap with the Achille's Heel -Res proc.

Try to find 3 more slots from somewhere to put into Char so you can slot 4 Basilisk's Gaze for an additional 7.5% recharge. (not that crucial, but if you can do it without gimping smething else you should)

Follow-Up gives ToHit & Dmg bonus. 10% and 37.5% respectively, and it's easy to double-stack.

See...

That's one of the little gems of wisdom that is not included in the little pop-up info tools.

There should be a setting ...something like "newb-buster" that you could turn on that would yell at you if you are about to do something catastrophically newbish.

Just a thought...
(Dev team ...get right on that if you would please)

My SO standard is and almost always has been 1 acc/3 dam/2 rech, largely because I do a lot of teaming and +tohit and -def debuffs seem to just be thrown about like crazy that I've just found that it's more useful to underslot acc and get more recharge. If I really need to beat something's face in, I can just pop some yellows.

Umbral, in reference to super-slotting for def....did the change to IO def bonuses hurt your build much?

Just in glancing at the build....I can answer for Umbral here.

Didn't really hurt it any.

Since the only change was to Blessing of the Zephyr, and not IOs in general, the net loss was 1.56% to ranged and AoE. Doesn't really hurt a regen scrapper much at all.

K, thanks. For some reason I'd thought I'd seen that there was more to the change.

I got a build with 35% melee, s/l defense at softcap and 67.5% recharge before hasten that I wanted to try out. But seeing as all those KC's are porbably going to my db/da, i'll probably never get to. I'll post up that build when I get home.

I am perpetually a pauper in CoH because I never transfer INF between chars (and I only have two 50s anyway, damned altitis). One thing to bear in mind is that you're often better off frankenslotting lesser sets than using "pure" IO's. If you can buy a cruddy set's recipes for 5000 when a table-bought recipe costs 20K, why not do it? You usually end up with greater total bonuses and if you're smart about sniping the recipes for cheap off the AH, you'll spend less money.

Also, if you do start assembling the good sets later in life, you don't HAVE to buy the level 50s of every recipe. The under-max recipes are often significantly cheaper, and if you're hitting the cap on your favored stats anyway, why bother with the 50s?

Well, it depends on availability too. Due to the way people tend to play, there is a glut of level 50 recipes, and damn few of any other level. I personally put a reasonable bid in for a level 39 Obliteration 4 piece, and the bid sat there for nearly a month, not because my bid wasn't high enough, but because no one put one up for sale during that timespan.

Sometimes, the level 50 is your only option. And I don't have a problem paying a few million more if it means I don't have to potentially wait a month to finish slotting my PBAoEs. Or longer, there are a couple recipes I ran across that no one has sold in several months (probably because you get more for vendoring them)
