Quote:I dinna know he was showing up in the MMO. Was just going on the nearest precedent. And I'd forgotten about Widdle Wade, tbh.You know Deadpool is showing up in the Super Hero Squad MMO? Also, the reasons I suggested "Widdle Wade" was because he's shown up in the comics on a few occasions.
-
Quote:Until they give us some Deadpool/Widdle Waid goodness, I could care less about the show.
Hmmm...I dunno that Deadpool would be greenlight for this. Different company, I know, but they referred to Deathstroke only as Slade in Teen Titans, and that show's target demo is a few years older than SHS.
I dunno if I could get behind a similar name substitution for 'pool...just doesn't feel right to me...maybe because Wade is too normal a name. -
-
Also, the show isn't "Zombie Apocalypse Survival Guide", and the characters aren't being presented as experts. It's just a group of average people dealing with a really crappy situation. They way they're acting/reacting seems to be fairly representative of how I would expect any group of average people to behave.

Quote:Also just a chance that it was a clean arrow. *shrug*Probably didn't turn because we will never see the Vatos again, I bet. That would be a major plot point, and since the climax of that encounter was the two groups becoming friends bringing that up in the narrative would a) make Rick and his group seem like terrible people for bringing the virus into the home and b) would extend the episode.
So handwaving it away by not mentioning allows the Vatos to fade into the background and serve as an important lesson to the original group on judging by first appearance.
The More You Know and Knowing is Half the Battle!
I bet that is how tonight's episode starts. -
Hey mods, why even bother leaving this here after all that pruning?

Quote:Not at all. I try not to assume anything about people when reading what they write...I just go by what's written. And I already pointed out where your intent and what you wrote crossed purposes. So nah, your yellow writing is unneededNo, you simply choose to assume I didn't know how actors and directors work together to make movies and decided to be picky about my choice of words despite the very obvious point I was making.
But to be perfectly clear so that you don't get confused again:
"I hope Depp will give Tonto one of his more serious, non-clowny efforts because the Director involved will allow him to do so."
Was that good enough for you that time or will I have to use extra words to over-explain everything just for your benefit? -

Now... the thing with Superman and Batman is that Superman is more or less unwilling to go all the way while Batman is AND you don't know what Batman has planned while Superman you know he has a limited number of things he is going to do. It is possible that Batman has some sort of "Superman Termination" programming built into his suit where he doesn't need to actually survive, but rather just have it trigger due recognizing Superman attacking Batman. After all Batman would see it as If Superman went rogue, to the point he just killed Batman, meaning Supes gave up his morals, it is more important stop Superman at all costs than it is to worry about surviving...Obviously he'd want to survive, but he'd have something to go into effect just in case.
Also you have to realize that with Batman's training he'd be able to predict within a range of events of "if this happens what will it cause." He also has reflexive and faster muscles than normal. So lets say Superman is on the Opposite side of the planet, and New Earth is 4x as big as earth (probably about right for DCU)...and Superman is as fast as light... Batman would have 1/2 a second to react to react to an event that would make Superman go rogue. I know i can hit any where around my body in 1/16 of a second. Batman would likely be at least double as fast as me so 1/32 of second...He'd be able to activate the device 16 times in that situation. So Superman can get 16 times closer before Batman can't react based on Superman's distance alone.
This means Batman will defeat Superman if he knows Superman is going to attack him and Superman is 2500 kilometers away... which in terms of New Earth is roughly if you take the top edge of state of California... the coast to the border of Utah.
However since we know Superman is generally in Metropolis and Batman in Gotham... he has likely 1/25 of that time considering they have to be within 100 km of each other.
So Batman has 1/800 of a second to react in most situations...which is obviously a problem just considering distance and ability to move. However we also know that Batman likely always has an eye on Superman, he likely would react before Superman started to act, and there is no reason to believe that Batman doesn't incorporate some of the Speed Force technology into his suit so it could be that Batman could even the playing field within that amount of time and it really depends on how fast Superman realizes to go after Batman and how fast Batman realizes that Superman has gone rogue.
So despite on the surface it seems obvious that Superman wins the best that would likely happen is a draw
And that is more to do with the fact that Batman isn't gambling like many people think, but rather taking calculated risks and planning around it. That long with immense amount of training allows him to go toe to toe with Superman....that and practically the resources of the most advanced cultures in the Universe... and the respect of and/or hatred of the most powerful beings in the DCU, Spectre, the Entity, Superman, The New Gods.
And lets not forget that if one wanted to they could say that "worship" is something that fuels gods...and we know that Batman, particularly Bruce Wayne inspired the Bat People to worship him as the bat and if we take that to it's logical extent of him being the inspiration and worship of all Bat myths then he should be as powerful as any of the gods ^.^ And the whole "destroying" of Darkseid could elevate him in terms of conceptual powers within the universe...
You really should put down the pipe. -
you kinda did.
"I hope Depp will give Tonto one of his more serious, non-clowny efforts"
Replace "will" with "gets to" and I wouldn't have posted
As far as why they chose him...it could go either way...he's pretty much equally good at serious or oddball so I wouldn't read anything into the choice as far as what tone they're going for. -
Quote:Yes I'm actually aware that Depp is a good actor and is capable of handling a wide range of roles. I'm even willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he won't "ham" up Tonto too much.
But if you were to look over the films Depp has done there are far more well-known Jack Sparrow and Willy Wonka type characters than George Jung and Dean Corso types. I think it's reasonable to at least assume, at first glance, that plugging Depp into the role of Tonto might suggest that they wanted someone who can handle "quirky comedy" more than "stoic seriousness". Let's just say if they had picked a guy who was known only for playing non-comedic roles (like for the sake of argument someone like Daniel Day-Lewis) then the focus/expectation of this movie would be much more clear-cut to me.
I'm just hoping that Depp will give Tonto one of his more serious, non-clowny efforts.
Like I said...It's not likely going to be up to him. -
Quote:There are of course exceptions.
However, Johnny Depp I still think can play a Native American just fine. How he plays the part may or may not be to people's liking however.
I think he can pull of a serious roll, but like Lothic has said, he doesn't always go that route.
Depp's easily one of the best actors of his generation. Sounds like some people have forgotten that he does serious/drama pretty damn well because of a couple of higher profile roles. And sure, he's got a lot of pull in Hollywood, but I doubt that he'd get to override the director and camp it up if that's not the tone of the film. -
Quote:Was watching at a bar with friends and pretty much the same thought hit me. "Why are zombies so damn hungry? Do they ever get full? Would they even know they *were* full, or, given enough food, would they simply eat until the remnants of their stomachs exploded? And would they then grab up all the food that just exploded out of them and try to re-eat it?"It's been suggested that the zombies might be moving out of the cities due to lack of food...
How long does it take for a zombie to starve? How does eating keep them going, anyway? The bottomless zombie in the first episode - anything it ate would just come sliding right back out. So how was it still going?
Yes, these things still ahem plague me in regard to this zombie invasion. I have no problem with *magical/supernatural* zombies (or even sword-weilding skeletons as seen in The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad) because, well, it's magic. But these guys...
What makes them tick, so to speak?
I managed to keep my musings to commercial breaks, somehow -
Quote:When your day consists of just trying to get enough to eat, staying alive, in a fugue/shock state most likely, and probably existing on very little sleep, do you really think they are going spend time ruminating on what caused it?
I'd tend to think not, especially when your group just put down 15 of the buggers that day. You aren't going to care what caused it, you are only going to care about what you can do to stay alive another day. Look at them, they are camping out and not really secure. A herd coming in could wipe them out any day.
Horde. Cows and horses travel in herds...Zombies do hordes -
Quote:With the exception of Watchman, all they really did was use DC & Marvel. There are more comic book companys with stories that they could've used for this. *shrugs*
Don't get me wrong, it was a good list.
True, but to be *most* shocking, you kinda have to go with the big names. Otherwise you have to do a huge explanation explaining the backstory to show why the climax of it is shocking. "Superman Dies!" is something that anyone will understand the shock value of. -
I'm sure Task could pull moves/fighting styles from memory and take out most opponents...but DP is a top-tier combatant in his own right, and has the advantage of actual enhanced abilities over Task. I never saw the issue...was this their first time fighting? I'd imagine that Task would start out just fighting him, and then once DP went wacky on him, and getting the upper hand he'd default to trying to learn his style, in order to be able to predict DP....once that fails, yeah, I could see the fight going badly for Task
-
Quote:I know what your saying, I just wanted Opinions is all. I think it would be interesting if City of heroes after the next Update tried to make a reason for hitting 50, but thats just me thinking outloud, probably totally preposterous to happen.
They already did that. They're called Epic Archetypes, and tying unlocks to lvl 50 was something they've said they would never do again. -
Quote:I believe it's been established that theres two people Taskmaster "can't" mimic. Deadpool, because he's simply way too unpredictable, and Moon Knight. Though technically it's not that he CAN'T mimic Moon Knight, it's that he *WON'T*, since Moon Knight tends to be more apt to take the punch rather then try to actually, y'know, DODGE it.
Ya...he's no dummy. -
Quote:From the sentinel?
Also this picture shocked me cause of the art and how graphic it was.
Yup. Gets blasted, and his metal skeleton clatters to the floor. This was before his establishment as WOLVERINE!!! in the 90's, but he was still a bad *** unkillable murder machine...seeing him dealt with so permanently and casually shocked the hell outta pre-teen me. -
I've always dug Taskmaster.
was just going through the wiki's on the Wilsons...Taskmaster couldn't beat Wade, despite his "monkey see, monkey do" fighting abilities. Wade's toooooo crazy and unpredictable apparently....and Batman has lost to Deathstroke (badly on occasion) every time they've crossed paths. -
Quote:He was. Liefield "came up" with the look and general abilities, and Nicieza was like "dude. You just 'created' Deathstroke." Nicieza named him Wade Wilson as a goof. Hell, Wade's first appearance was fighting The New Mutants....the junior X-men. Deathstroke's made his bones antagonizing the Teen Titans.Wasn't Deadpool a supposed ripoff of DC's Deathstroke?
And having a skull for a head is a pretty common thing to do in comics.
Fortunately, Nicieza pretty quickly diverged the character from any more similarities.
As far as Red Hood being a rip of Deadpool or Mask being a rip of Skull...that's a pretty large stretch. Takes more than a similar mask to be a ripoff, imo. Hell, Wade and Slade don't look all that similar at all, (especially under the mask...ugh) and that's an acknowledged lift. -
Quote:Days of Future Past was pretty much shock after shock...the only reason I can see for it not making this list is that it was essentially a "What If". The whole point of of the story was for the current Xmen to change events so that it would never happen. I'm sure that's not why it's missing though, given the elementary school book report writing. Not to mention that the event itself was hardly the most shocking thing in Watchmen.
All in all I'm not really all too happy with the list. I mean, sure, some things are a matter of taste, but the trinity of Death of Superman, Knightfall and Emerald Fallout/Twilight was really just the same gimmick used over and over again. The Adamantium thing was just silly, especially as it barely impact the character at the end of the day, except when the story was written for it. The death of Jason Todd was voted on, so no surprises there, really. Zero Hour was one of many bigger and smaller reboots to happen in the DCU, starting with the original Crisis. As such it hardly stands out to me when seen in the context of the various Crises, Hypertime, Underworld Unleashed and whatever else they did that allowed them to retcon stuff with an in-story explanation.
I can agree on Action Comics #1 in principle and the Speedy drugs story in particular. Not sure about the Dark Phoenix Saga. It was cool and all, mind, but as someone who read those stories in sequence, there was stuff I found more impactful at the time. The first being gentle Colossus killing Proteus and the other one being Days of Future Past. That one really shocked me.
How about Trouble? Origins? Those were also truly shocking. Shocking because of how trite they were, granted, but shocking nonetheless.
And speaking of wolvie's adamantium...him getting reduced to a skeleton in one shot was way more shocking than Mags delacing him. -
Quote:Yeah...Joker shooting Barbara was much more of a shock than him killing Jason Todd....they put that up to a friggin vote.Wolverine's power has been creeping up for a while, and he's regenerated back from almost complete disintegration before.
I think the list failed. Any list of shocking comic moments must include Joker shooting Barbara Gordon. It was a seminal event for the DC universe and absolutely nobody saw it coming.
My choice for runner up would be Kid Miracleman's ****. But that was more or less a self-contained event. -
Quote:Power creep...he'd been slowly getting ramped up to way beyond just "master of magnetism" for years by that point....most applicable, these sections from the wiki :1) "He can also affect non-metallic and non-magnetic objects to a lesser extent and frequently levitates himself and others." and 2) "Although Magneto has been shown capable of manipulating matter on a subatomic level (insofar as the electromagnetic force is responsible for bonding electrons to protons within an atom), the use of his powers in this way seems to be difficult for him, and he has not been frequently depicted as doing so."You know what's more shocking than Magneto ripping out the Adamantium from Wolverine? That his powers work on non-ferrous metals!
At that point, he's pretty much "master of stuff". Ferrous, non ferrous, plastic, flubber..it's all the same
ok...just actually read that whole powers section...he can survive nukes if he has his shield up, create wormholes oh, and he might be a bit of a telepath, too? sheesh. No wonder it takes the entire roster of the X-Men to beat him most times. -
More important than all of that...did a 12 year old write this article?
