First off, special thanks to BBQ Pork for having the patience to break down the OP's wall'o'text into readable paragraphs.
When the OP says the following, I'm assuming he means basic IO's because they are the only ones you can buy from a crafting table.
Quote:Or you could replace them all with level 30 Invention Origin enhancements for the price it would cost you to purchase the recipes at the university + the cost of all needed salvage+ the crafting cost without having to run around spending several hours/days trying to do it manually.
So imagine the responses that will occur from players that make use of IO sets when they click to upgrade all of their enhancements and that level 15 Celerity IO they bought for 20, 50, 60, 200 million. is replaced with a basic Run IO that costs maybe 73,875 or a Jump that costs roughly 49,150.
-
Quote:Ok Forbin_Project. Let me tell you that I have been playing City since June of 2004 so I know how the enhancements work. What I am suggesting is that as you run around doing missions and you level up at your milestone levels 12,17,22,27,32,37,42, and 47 you can purchase the next level of enhancements all at once so if you hit level 12 for example and you are already decked out with all training enhancements with a single click you can upgrade all enhancements to Dual Origin for the price it would cost you to purchase all of them without having to sit there at the store for several minutes purchasing them and placing them. I personally would not need to do this because I generally do not mess with enhancements until at least level 12 anyway however it is just an example. The next example is that you hit level 27 when you can start using level 30 enhancements. You run to a store or the Wentworths and with a click you can either purchase an replace all enhancements with level 30 Single Origin for the price it would cost to purchase them or you could replace them all with level 30 Invention Origin enhancements for the price it would cost you to purchase the recipes at the university + the cost of all needed salvage+ the crafting cost without having to run around spending several hours/days trying to do it manually. Some people do not care about getting the "best price" and since the amount of subscribed players that are actually playing is down right now it is sometimes hard to find enhancements so this would be a way to do it in a fast and easy matter if you did not want to deal with the hassle of haggling and crafting and influence/infamy was no object to you. And I am sure that the system I am proposing would show you the price to upgrade before charging you so you could see if it was an amount you are willing to pay. If you want to sit at the Wentworths for a week waiting to see if you can get that one level 35 standard invention origin recipe for fly speed for only 10000 then go right ahead however some of us like to just upgrade and then return to doing missions, task forces, etc. and we gain enough influence that it is no big deal to drop a few million to upgrade to all level 35 or level 40 standard IOs. I do not know why there are so many people on the boards that decide to just /unsign everything they see without considering an alternative to the way things are. I have been subscribed to this game since June of 2004 and never had a lapse in my account. I have seen every single issue be announced and unvieled. This game has improved greatly since then through suggestions just like this one. I for one do not enjoy the crafting part of the game. It is boring and frustrating and I know I am not the only person that feels that way. It would be nice to be able to upgrade your entire loadout of enhancements in a more quick and easy fashion than we have today. Most other MMOs you may upgrade by getting a new shield or weapon and then you are on your way but you do not have to spend hours purchasing if you can find them upgrades for accuracy/damage/range/endurance Reducers/etc. It is great that we have such a grandular system however it is also very time consuming to upgrade. I am just throwing out a suggestion to make that process more streamlined for those of us who dislike crafting so much.
Wall of text, didn't read.
I see however that other posters are mentioning some of the same points I brought up, so I must not be that far off base. -

1. If you've been playing the game long enough to get a character to level 27 you already know regular enhancements are sold in increments of 5 levels. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, etc and if left uncombined will turn red at levels 7, 12, 17, 22, 27, etc.
2. If you are buying TO's, DO's, and SO's why would you be running between the market and the university? They don't need to be crafted.
3. If you are using IO's You don't need to run around replacing them because they never turn red.
4. IO's don't have a set price. They are driven solely by what players want to sell them for, thus their prices can fluctuate depending upon the supply and demand.
Players buying will inevitably find themselves paying far more than they wanted because they they didn't take the time to place bids and see if something was just too damn expensive.
5. If the player doesn't can't afford everything the player will end up getting screwed again when he finds that the ones he did buy weren't for powers he considers the important ones. Everyone has different ideas as to what his best powers are, and what he considers a priority to slot first. -
Quote:Uhm no. This would defeat the purpose of the expanded /hide feature.sometimes i won't even notice when my friends or people in my SG are on, and i don't remember to check.
i think it would be nice to have a little noise everytime someone logs on. A little like the sound when you send a message, just not identical or it will be confusing

Quote:Being able to login onto your game is the least of your problems. They are still getting access to vital personal information that they need to steal your identity. All kinds of crimes can be committed with stolen identities. At this point, you wouldn't be "potentially doomed". Your master account password can no longer be changed without the old password, so your whole account can't be hijacked the way they were doing it. They may be able to temporarily change your game account passwords, but as long as your master account is still intact that can be fixed. They seem to be leaving CoH game accounts alone, and the recent changes to GW will keep a password change there from doing them any good.
-
Quote:All I can say for certain that I my GW and main CoH account are both on my PlayNC Master account, and anyone getting into my master account will have access to both my games.Good points. Forbin's screenie didn't really answer anything in regards to PlayNC.com specifically, and although I don't see any proof so far that anything is happening, that doesn't mean there might not be a problem... just one that's very hard to replicate. Still, there's no doubt that NCSoft is probably looking into any potential exploit on PlayNC.com, especially now that Massively.com is reporting on the rumor.
I'm assuming that people with just CoH accounts may be safe from the bug, because it seems to be affecting people with Aion and GW accounts. Which may be why we haven't heard much on this topic. -
Quote:Rumor my ***. Guild Wars just added a new "security" feature requiring everyone to enter the name of a character on the account after they enter their password when logging on.Has anyone been able to replicate this yet? I haven't. All that has happened to me is that I either see my account page, or I get an error message (probably because tons of people are hammering the F5 key).
Until I see pics or whatnot, this is just F.U.D. Even Massively.com admits it's still a rumor.
Of course as is typical they aren't going to say the problem lies on their end because people would cancel their accounts if they knew there was such a huge security risk, and what they did say is just vague enough that they can claim they meant by other games and websites that they meant CoH or Lineage, etc.
-
Quote:What I just got when I changed my passwords was an email the gave me the IP address of the computer the password change came from and the account name. It also said to notify CS if I didn't change the password.I thought the first thing they would do is change out the email addy so you can't use recover password to get back in.
But my point is if someone is getting in the backdoor it doesn't matter what I change my password to, he can get all my personal info right then and there. He has no reason to come back unless he wants log into the game itself and mess with my characters. -
Quote:It seems to me that if a person or group of people are trying to take advantage of this bug, the first thing they are going to do once they get access to some random customers account is change the password so only they have access.I read it.
The first point was to raise awareness of the issue. The second was that, out of all the things you can do, changing your password is probably as good at it gets. If someone has gotten into your account through whatever way, changing your password provides just a bit more protection than leaving everything the same.
That's going to prevent the real account owner from getting access and give them the time they need to steal whatever info they can. Then there's also the question as to how much time do they need to take a screenshot of your account info? One or two minutes at the most? Once they have it they don't need to come back. -
Quote:On the other hand, if my account got compromised and all my characters deleted or something, even though I have done *nothing* wrong, I'd have to consider that might also cost NCsoft a customer.
How would you feel if you found out this bug gave someone else access to your account and when you complained you get told by Customer Support that they are banning your account because they assumed you used an RMT site rather than admit there is something wrong on their end. -
Quote:No. There's still a lot of other problems. For example. There is no comparing Vehicles with walking. Walking is a movement animation that TURNS OFF and disable all powers. That way they dodged all the problems with animating every power to work with the movement.
I guess they could do a very simple vehicle, but only if you have to turn off all your powers too. Would that be enough for everyone?
If attacked while in a vehicle does the player take damage or the vehicle?
Vehicles are larger than players so will they have a bigger chance of aggroing passing enemies?
Will vehicles have weapons?
Vehicles are notoriously slow in this game. A character using Sprint can outrun them. So just how fast will travel power vehickes go?
How will vehicles work inside buildings and caves?
Currently multiple travel powers can be used at the same time. How will other travel powers affect a vehicle?
Can vehicles be customized?
If vehicles provide armor/weapons, will players be able to slot them with enhancements.
The list goes on and on. -

RUMBLE . . .
is your basic street punk. Small, but always acting tough as a cover. Not exactly the most subtle of Soundwave's spies, but what he lacks in discretion, he makes up for by being the brawler of the group. He talks tough because he is tough. Quick-tempered and of a generally mean disposition, he follows Megatron eagerly, as the Decepticon leader lets him indulge in destruction. Rumble has a tendency to toss out a taunting rhyme at his enemies and is, according to Brawn, a "jerk" (or at other times, a "sawed-off nerd").
As the Decepticon demolitions expert, Rumble loves nothing more than to break things apart. His arms can transform into powerful piledrivers that, when pounded against the ground, cause vibrations that cause earthquakes and fissures.
And then there's your character description.
Quote:My character Rumble's
Name both describes his Vibration-related powers and his use of them in a fisticuffs style combat and tendency to always get in brawls.
Yeah there's no similarities between the two. -
Yes actually they can, because they aren't using the word as a verb or generic noun. They are using it as a proper noun also called a proper name. which are used to identify persons, places, or certain special things.
Making strawman arguments isn't debating it's trolling. -
Quote:Oh I know about some of the changes. I had an unpleasant experience just before Christmas with Guild Wars. It seems they decided to add a new security feature but didn't notify anyone they were doing it.Changing your password won't solve that part of the problem, no, but that wasn't the only vulnerability that was was being exploited, and it looks like NC made some changes this weekend that will make all of the issues harder to exploit while they look into fixing it (having just changed my own password, I can confirm that there's a new popup that looks to be put in place for that reason). That said, changing your password is still a good idea, and isn't going to hurt. If you look through the posts that the article links to, there is mention that some of the hackers are working off a list of account names and passwords.
Now GW players need to type in one of their character names in order to log on. Not being a frequent player I don't have my character names memorized. So I ended up having to find a CoH player that plays Guild Wars contact a friend in my GW guild and have them pass along the name of the character that joined their guild.
GW customer support was insisting I only had a demo/trial account that had no characters on it. -
Yes you are whining. You are throwing a hissy-fit when we were just trying to help you find legitimate ways to get a name you wanted.

Each and every time you log into the game you agree not to use any names that violate a third party's copyright/trademarks. -
Quote:So, a common verb is a copyright violation?
I mean, if he was a robot named Rumble, sure, but he's a human kid named after what things do when you shake them, and Transformers have lots of crazy-*** names that I'm sure people are using because once they run out of basic verbs, adjectives, and fancy greek-sounding names, they put two nouns together like Laser and beak.
Yes it is.
And guess who holds the Copyright/Trademark. Marvel. The same company that sued CoH over copyright violations before. And guess who owns Marvel today. DISNEY THE COPYRIGHT/TRADEMARK SUE-HAPPY COMPANY.
Suck it up and deal with it. You can't have the name. -
Quote:Eh, those sound kind of silly, if you ask me, and WHile he's a silly character, personality wise, That's a bit much.
And the name Is Rumble, nor Rumbles, I'm saying the name that belongs to Rumble (Rumble's name) was taken.
And honestly, That just sounds like adding junk letters or symbols again.
Oh his name is RUMBLE.
You can't have Rumble because it would be a copyright/trademark violation.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumble_(Transformers)
Rumble is one of the Decepticons. He is partnered with Soundwave, Ravage, and Laserbeak.
If you did manage to get it you would find yourself getting genericed by the GM's as soon as one of the Transformer fans petitioned you for using the name. -
It seems to me there must be some sort of flag on our characters because many many months ago I remember dying while on a co-op team and getting the option to res in the other factions base. (My character wasn't in an SG) Lo and behold I found my villain running around the hero base. I couldn't resist the urge and I tried to use their teleporters to get into the hero zones. I tried every teleporter they had to no avail. I kept getting told I didn't have access to those zones.
So after having that happen I don't see why they can't let base builders have access to items from both factions. There would just be porters heros can use and others Villains can use.
What I think their biggest concern is people abusing SG storage bins to move items easily between factions in bulk. -
Quote:For those who have played Guild Wars, there might be some pretty concerning security issues around NCsoft master accounts.
Might be a good time to change your master account password even if you didn't play GW, just in case.
Uhm . . . Unsub . . . Did you read what they are saying the actual problem is?
Changing your password will not solve the problem. The bug is randomly bypassing your login and password and giving another person access to your account when they enter their login and password.Quote:LOGGING INTO YOUR OWN PLAYNC MASTER ACCOUNT CAN RANDOMLY LOG YOU INTO ANOTHER PLAYER'S ACCOUNT. YOU HAVE FULL CONTROL OVER THEIR ACCOUNT FROM THIS POINT. YOU CAN CHANGE THEIR PASSWORDS, AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT ONE CAN EDIT FROM THE PLAYNC MASTER ACCOUNT CONTROLS. -
Quote:I just checked and Rrumble's, Rrumbles, and Rruummblless, is available on every server. And in my opinion adding an additional letter or two to the name gives the reader a hint that the characters powers are vibration and/or earth related as well as a brawler. It also reminds me of the visual sound effects I know and love from comic books.I just find it a bit unfair that everyone is calling people who want names that are taken
"uncreative" or "unimaginative"
Sometimes the name is just taken.
Which leaves you with your awesome idea screwed
My character Rumble's
Name both describes his Vibration-related powers and his use of them in a fisticuffs style combat and tendency to always get in brawls.
I could go a-searching for synonyms for "Vibrate" or "shake" but it'd lose the fighting connotations I could go looking for synonyms for "Fight" or "brawl" but it would probably lose the Vibrational connotations. So I'm stuck with putting Junk (I used a period) at the end of my name to use it, or I could scrap the character altogether.
It's not a crazily overused name,(as far as I know) and it's not intended as a copy of an existing character. It's just a name I want to use, and I can't use it unscarred because it's taken by someone else, who might also be using it creatively.
Just a little creativity and imagination and the name you wanted is available. -
Quote:No. Walk was a minor QoL issue that could be worked on when the devs had nothing better to do or when they decided they needed filler to give us.But don't you see that most of this is the same sort of made-up/convenient arguments that Walk got hit with.
Vehicles are a complicated feature that would require the reanimating of every single power in the game, special coding to deal with movement limitations, and who knows what else.
The two features are nothing alike. -
Quote:hehe, I have 1 level 40 : D I like that game. But I want CoH to get the 3 good parts about it so CoH will be way bettter.
All the outfits, arm, legs, back, the thrid and fourth, color on each the patterens.
The nemeisis and travle powers
To have any name
Then the team thing would be nice heheh. The team idea is mine hehehe.
I think this alll will happen someday, my ideas are coming around the corner hehe. The ability to change power's color is already here, and the ability to turn evil/good is on it way : D So, soon... maybe in a year the other 4 will come.
1. The costume thing I'll agree to.
2. Nemesis thing I'll agree to as well.
3. Travel Powers
Flight - They have nothing we couldn't duplicate with recipes or that we already have with auras. Oh and our jetpacks actually work. We win there.
Superspeed both games have it
Acrobatics - we have Ninja Run.
Super Jump both games have it.
Swinging looks good in a city zone but looks stupid when there's nothing for the ropes to swing from.
Tunneling I admit it's different but I recall reading theres a problem with how our zones are made that would make it difficult at best to implement.
Teleport they win hands down.
4. The name thing. We shall fight you on the seas and oceans, we shall fight to keep our names unique in the air, we shall defend our names, whatever the cost may be,we shall fight you on the beaches, we shall fight you on the landing grounds, we shall fight you in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight you in the hills, we shall never surrender. You can have our unique names when you pry them from our cold dead fingers.
5. The team thing. While I have no doubt we will be getting more temp power pets, and I do look forward to that day, the extent that you want it is wishful thinking.
