It will never be it's own AT unless the devs decide to do it as a one off Epic AT like VEATs or HEATs. Your more likely to see it added to one of the pre-existing AT's

The concept isn't out of the realm of possibility for this game. The big question is what AT should it fall under. For example if you'll look at the Blaster AT the Energy secondary set is a melee powerset. I'm sure if the devs wanted they could put something together.

Why not sue the moron?

(And yes, I know the answer is money... but geez, it is really stupid.)
As far as lawsuits go, even if NCSoft were to win they still lose because fighting it is so damn expensive. Then there's the media to consider. If a group decided to start a negative press campaign could the game survive the mudslinging. Is the playerbase large enough that they can risk parents cancelling subs?

Sure it's possible that bad media could actually backfire on the protesters and spark a wave of new subscribers to the game but is it worth taking that risk?

And for the record I personally want as much customization as possible in the game. I just can't dismiss the explanation we were given as to why we won't get female minions as being silly. Sadly it makes sense.

I don't know if what I'm going to explain next applies to you or not. I'm guessing that the file you are referring to is an MA mission slot. If it is then it's possible you can't get rid of it because the GM's reviewed it and decided it broke the rules of the game. If so you can't get it back unless you file an appeal and CS decides the GM's made a mistake.

    • Players who knowingly use an exploit when creating an arc, run the risk of having access to MA suspended, or worse- depending on the severity of the action, their account banned.

    • Players who have a story arc banned for any reason, will have it continue to use up one of their publishing slots. Players will NOT be able to unpublish this slot without Customer Service’s help. This sets up a “three strikes and you’re out” policy. If an individual gets three story arcs banned, they will no longer be able to publish since their slots will all be used up with banned arcs.

•• This lock will not take place on the first level of “complaint banning”, where an arc has received a larger number of complaints. Players will still have a chance to fix the arc.

•• If Customer Service looks at an arc and determines it was banned in error, they will mark it as “unbannable”. At that point the arc can not be banned for any reason. The unbannable flag will reset if the player makes any changes to the arc at that point, and the arc can be banned again.

•• Remember, publishing slots are account wide, so players will not be able to log in another character on their account and use their slots instead.

If CS decides the GM's made the right decision to ban the mission/arc then you are out of luck. You've lost that slot forever.

LOL and yes as a JOKE I did just that shortly after they came out with the statement.. SO we can't allow female minions some people would take advantage and have the minions worshiping them. SOooo it's okay for the MALE minions to worship my female Villain but not the other way around????

Its a macho thing I guess or whatever they have to protect the helpless little female? Umm my 45 level Thugs/DM MM doesn't need anyone to protect her.. she is usually too busy kicking butt. I find it very strange since they (THE DEVS) have no issue with a villainess named Dominatrix and if you've ever done any base building the ONLY bed available has TIE DOWN STRAPS.

We asked, we begged, for the option to select either male or female minions. I'm a female and I want a female oriented GANG. But goodness we can't have that someone might take advantage of it in role play... Have these people visited Pocket D on Virtue? People take advantage of anything and everything in game so get over it and create the female version of the MM Minion!

Come on Devs it's 2010 and your about to launch Going Rogue and have Demon Summoners that use WHIPS as weapons? But we still can't allow an MM to have a group of female minions? Does the term sex discrimination ring a bell? I'm not asking you to have them dressed like the Fembots from Austin Powers... If they are Merc.. have them in Cammies. Thugs.. dressed in Street clothes like their male counterparts. Zombies.. zombies are zombies. Ninja.. the same robe and pajama pants as their male counterparts. And Bots.. Okay lets just leave bots neutral .. they are machines and have no sexual orientation at all. I have seen CHARACTERS running around in leather tops and g-string bikinis but we still have no female minions... okay done ranting.. now FIX IT! lol

While I understand your point of view, all it takes is one idiot to make his/her henchmen into preteen female sex slaves to get the self righteous zealots in America demanding legal action against NCSoft.

Now I know you've been around here long enough to know we have plenty of both in this game. Remember the big blow up on the forums a while back because the devs posted their support for an event sponsored by part of the gay community? And how about the bickering that always crops up whenever someone complains when an ERPer is making a scene somewhere public ingame.

I just wanted to make sure that it was taken into consideration.

I wonder if it would be possible to design it so that the next location wasn't fixed. Maybe clues could be randomly drawn from a list of dozens of possible locations, and when clue "A" matches location "A" they get the badge and next clue.

Personally I wouldn't mind if they designed it so that the first time you found a geocache you got a random drop of some kind. I'd limit it to applying to a persons account rather than character to minimize farming them.

It would be cool if the little explore badge marker itself has a log book or GPS info. You'd still get the badges for wandering near them, but clicking on them would give a text pop-up that gives a *useful* text hint as to where the next one might be, and maybe the GPS location (/Loc position) of the nearest neighborhood marker. Each cache (or clickable marker) would tell you a hint to the next one in the same zone, in a loop, so that you might realistically find them all. Each zone would be independent so that you'd have to find at least one per zone from trial and error. Just make sure each zone has one marker/badge in a place that "seems" like it'd be too obvious to pass up for a marker. For most zones, that is already the case (such as the Doughnut in Faultline or the Globe in Atlas).

    Wouldn't that be cool?

    Lewis
And 15 minutes after the badgehunters find them all I will be able to download their locations from Vidiotmaps and have them appear on my ingame maps.

Not saying I'm against the idea, just pointing out how people will get around it.

Tartarus is fine with me. My point was that due to the fact that certain people are touchy about the names Power suggested so alternative names should/would get used.

First, Linden Labs does get taxed on the revenue they realize- and that revenue includes its earnings from the sale of Linden Dollars. They're not taxed on the SALES TAX, just as many other "services" aren't taxed online.

There are two areas to look at here. The first is point-of-monetary-transfer (where you exchange L$ for real $)

Linden Labs DOES have to report their own L$ sales as revenue.

Individuals that buy and sell L$ ALSO have to report this as income to the IRS. Most don't, but they should- and if audited, they could face tax evasion charges for not reporting that income if they exceeded the threshold amount (it's considered self-employment).

    -------------------------
Next: the "Virtual Exchange" (exchange L$ for L$, no real money exchanging hands):

Where things get VERY wonky is when you run into the US Federal Tax's "Barter Laws." These were designed to address an emerging issue back in the 80's. Groups started printing catalogues of services they'd offer in exchange for 'points' that could be exchanged for other services. (X prepares Y's legal docs for 8 points each, then pays Z 8 points to do his accounting for him). In the mid-80's such exchanges had catalogs the size of phone books detailing services and goods available. Since no money exchanged hands, there was no "income" and therefore, the idea went, no INCOME TAX!

So, the federal government changed the law. Now ANY exchanged service or good that has real monetary value (i.e. that other people would normally and legally pay for), should be reported and taxed as if that real monetary value exchanged hands-- regardless if there was any real money involved! (there's some latitude for "favors" like mowing your elderly neighbor's lawn for free, but really not too much).

    -------------------------
If you apply that to video games, the theory goes... it's practically all there. We exchange points (influence) for goods and services. If these goods and services were legitimately available for real money too, then the law's wording suggests that we'd ALL have to track and report all our non-money in-game transactions too.

    --------------------------

Do we do that? Hell no. The law would appear to COVER that as it was written, but most doubt that it'd ever be APPLIED that way.

Instead, we treat online games more like we handle "Poker winnings." When you think of it, buyable influence or L$ is like giving cash for a poker chip. You might lose that chip before the night's out... or you might gain a hundred more... heck, you could gain a hundred more then lose it all before you're done. You're not assessed on every "transaction" when that chip (which has monetary value) exchanges hands. You're just taxed on your overall winnings.

In L$ terms: we don't report taxes on anything we (the players) earn in L$ until we exchange it out for real $. Then we report it as earnings.

The screwy part- all the laws governing reporting gambling revenue are so narrowly defined that they REALLY can't be applied to MMO's, but we tend to follow their prescribed behavior because they make more sense than the more broad -and more applicable- laws that govern barter networks that would bring online gaming to a grinding halt.
Way to go Chase! I'm making a cut&paste of this.

Ah, but the OP just recently posted a thread were he whined about how he was on a pug TF with a defender that didn't choose powers he felt she should have. So he should have no problem understanding why someone would only want to team with the people in his/her SG.

If NCSoft would release the numbers I wouldn't be surprised if they showed that the majority of players here are vets of at least a couple years. So tying this to a vet reward would still have the same effect they saw in DAoC.

    Norther Heaven (Heroes)
We must stop the CoT from stealing the Angels including gods' powers. If they gain to must power no one not even the mighty Statesman will be able to stop them.

    Southern Heaven (villains)
You must help the Circles steal the powers of the God, and of cause kill them so you can have the power to yourself ; )

    Next zone Hell
    Norther Hell (Heroes)
We heroes must stand together! We must stop the Circles from unleashing all the demons including Satan! The foolish Circles think they can control Satan, No one not even Infernal can do that! ((Well I can be wrong because he is not my hero lol))

    Southern Hell (Villain)
Help the Circles control Satan, let him rise to kill all! Sadly, you and the Circles will need to fight him to put him back... Dang traitor! Guess no one can control Satan.

    Central Hell (PVP)
This can be a level 45-50 zone. This is where the heroes guard the giant hole, or portal so Satan can't get out, the villains must kill the heroes to break Satan free from Hell!

I am sure someone, like the Dev can think of a good stroy for this... I want to have god's powers lol and kill Satan eather one works What do you think?

While I'm partial to this idea I don't see the devs working on a "Heaven" or "Hell". They already don't want us using religous names in our characters. Maybe if the names were changed to something like The Elysian Fields and Hades . . .

Last time I checked this wasn't the United States of Linded Labs. They don't get to decide what the government chooses to levy taxes on. If the government decides to tax something they'll tax it.

10$ to autolevel a 'toon to 50, w/influence and merits to match?

Have you ever been lucky enough to get into the test server when the devs are testing a new powerset and they give out a level bump?

For example when they tested Dual Pistols they gave everyone a level bump to 50. With the level bump they also gave each character about 15 million inf and 9,999 merits to buy enhancements and recipes. For obvious reasons I already stated this should never happen on the live servers.

Auto-leveling on the test server is fine as it serves a definite purpose and it is completely seperate from the live servers.
