Quote:Wasn't trying to imply you did, just saying people quickly point out the fallacy of that argument whenever it gets brought up.Like I said, some argue it but I don't subscribe to that claim.
If it's anything like CoV I give it a year and a half or so. That was about how long it took them to release Good vs Evil, and then shortly after that they officially merged both games and grandfathered in old boxes of CoH so if a player found an original boxed set they's get the newer combined game.Quote:Merging of GR into the mainstream game may happen in due course but not for a while I suspect. It would need the GR package to have been exhausted and some other new initiative to encourage people to buy a "complete" edition. -
Quote:If I had to guess I'd say it's because most players remember these postsYou're reading the words and missing the meaning. I will rephrase:
My question there is if 200 tickets = 1 merit is so horrible why is AE farming not considered the absolute best farming method now?
Better?
Abusing Mission Architect
Follow Up: Abusing Mission Architect
And the GM's have followed thru and enforced what Positron posted back then.
Then there's the huge negative reputation that AE babies earned. Many people simply don't want to associate with that type of player so they avoid the AE or only use it when solo or with their friends.
Why go thru all that hassle when there are regular missions available that can be farmed to our hearts content without ever suffering the wrath of the GM's or AE babies. And it seems like with every new addition to the game the devs are adding more contacts with repeatable missions that can be farmed.
Newpaper/Radio missions
Mayhem/Safeguards
Ouroboros Flashback missions
Marcus Valerius - Cimerora
Borea - RWZ
There are other contacts as well but I can't remember all their names or which factions they are on.
There's also the TF's, Trials, Raids, GM's, and I think the missions in the PvP zones can be farmed.
Farmers have plenty of choices available without having to resort to farming the AE. -
Sure that's what it's for but many times I've seen people have a hard time getting help there because jacktards hijack the channel and shout down people trying to get help or when asked to take their conversations/arguments elsewhere.

Quote:I hope not, because much like the second Highlander movie Caprica never happened. My guess (assuming they weren't able to do any episodes to bring Caprica to some kind of reasonable conclusion) is that they'll try to work some bits and pieces of what Caprica tried develop into the new series to give it some overall continuity.
Sorry. I'm really struggling to not go off on a nerdrage. It was a bit of a shock to realize that I'm wanting to express myself like I've seen the Trekkies do somewhere we can't mention on these forums. -
I liked all the stuff they gave us for free, and I hope they give us some more free transfers like they did last year. I used mine previously to rearrange my characters and now that I've had a chance to appreciate what GR has brought to the table I've decided that I'd like to do a little more tweaking on who goes where.
The only thing I don't like about these events is beyond the devs control, and that's the holiday griefer's. The ones that look at ToTing and Present hunting as a chance to get other players killed. -
For me it's different with each character. Some AT's are more fun to play at different levels.

Quote:Or the people who didn't think they would use intentional deceptive language in thier advertising it wasn't a clear cut case of being able to read it was a case of being able to read lawyer talk as it was something like 'there are no incentives to prepurchase ' and then they added the prepurchase bonuses.
(posted by iPhone please excuse formatting)
As can plainly be seen there was nothing deceptive in their announcements. No lawyerspeak. They were quite open and explicit in what came with the prepurchase. The incentive to buy the prepurchase was getting to play Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning 5 months before the people that chose to wait.
Furthermore NCSoft flat out told us that when they announced the Prepruchase Program they had no intention of offering any preorder bonuses thru retailers. The decision to offer a preorder bonus was in part the result of feedback they got from us,

And even after they decided to offer both the prepurchase program and the preorder thru Gamestop they took the time to explain the differences between the two of them.

So you can rant and deny the facts all you like, but the truth is they gave us all the information they had as soon as it was available. -
Quote:Additionally, 2.5 other costume sets and 2 auras were put into a purchase-only pack off to the side, or were sold with the "complete" edition. Quite a few of us who'd pre-ordered GR to show our support were pretty gobsmacked that we had to lay out EXTRA in order to get everything.
I don't see why. They told everyone months in advance of the GR pre-purchase release that all we would get was early access to Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning and that the rest would be sold as an item pack when GR went live.
Only the people that didn't read what they were buying and made assumptions not based on the facts provided were shocked. -
-
And every time someone tries that argument another person posts proof that we've always paid for extra stuff in this game. We paid for the extra costumes all the way back to CoV's release. It was at least a year or so before they merged both games and gave everyone that hadn't bought both games access to all the goodies in one package. The same will eventually happen with the GR stuff if we don't switch over to an F2P model.

Quote:That is a key balancing act, and I'd prefer that they use caution in meeting those expectations. Sometimes this is more about perception than reality, but perceptions matter.
Take, for example, a system where a subscription gets you about the same featureset you have now, plus 1000 "free credits" per month. Every three months, a new Issue is released, but it's essentially just a bunch of new features that you can buy. Add them all up, and it comes to... say... 4000 credits.
You as a player may be very upset-- you'd normally get that stuff for FREE but even if you spent all your credits there, you'd have to buy another 1000 credits to get it all. They're shortchanging you!
Me, as a player, look at that issue, see the 2 task forces I'd never play & a costume set that would never meet my characters and realize I can buy JUST what I want from that issue for 2000 credits and have 1000 extra that I can spend on a booster that I'd otherwise have to pay for.
So, have the devs ripped off subscribers by not giving them enough to get everything they'd normally have gotten for free, or has the "buffet style" selection added enough value to make up for it?
---
Also, keep in mind that this game's what... 6 1/2 years old? The subscription's never increased. There aren't many things that can say they cost the same as they did over a half-decade ago. Sooner or later, the devs will have to face either a price increase or reduce what's given for that price (kinda like how a candy bar price may remain stable, but the candy itself shrinks in size).
As afr as new stuff is concerned I look at it the way you do. My concerns are about things we already get for free that they might decide to charge us for.
For example we currently have a inf cap of 2 billion, but it's been known to happen when a game goes F2P that they put a lower cap on a characters wealth and make subscribers pay to have it removed.
We currently have unlimited market transactions, A cap could be put on them as well that we'd have to pay to remove.
Subscribers could find out that they aren't entitled to customer support unless they buy NCCoins.
Subscribers may be told they have to pay to unlock Epic AT's.
Subscribers may be told they have to buy a Super Group Charter before they can form one.
They may tell us we have to buy a base permit.
They may put a time limit on certain base features and charge us a rental fee to keep them active. Like 200 NCCoins for teleport access for a month.
They may charge a fee for additional base storage. Get 1 of each bin for free but charge for each additional bin.
They may decide to sell IO's for cash. IO's that are bound to the character and cannot be sold or traded to other players/characters. We already have this in the game. The Gamestop Pre-Order bonus IO's are bound to the character.
And these are just a few examples of things we could lose if we went F2P. -
Quote:Silly Aussies. When will they learn to build a tunnel to civilization and run the cables thru that.I've heard that Australia's (and much of Oceania, for that matter) daily fluctuations in latency issues when connecting to other regions is largely due to the vast number of transoceanic lines that run through/near Singapore.
There's a vast armada of underused freight vessels constantly dropping anchor offshore (they anchor offshore while idle to avoid harbor fees), and they frequently damage the cables. They've got a huge but never-ending detect/find/patch operation going on there... and some of their temporary reroutes cause frequent router overload or just extra thousands of miles of transmission distance.

Quote:My only real concern is that from seeing what has happened in other F2P models (Is that vague enough Mighty Ocho?To get back onto the original topic.
If CoH goes F2P I don't imagine much at all will change. So long as players who pay their $15 a month aren't "Shorted" access to new content all the F2P changeover would mean is more players running around.
And that's hardly a bad thing.
-Rachel-
) we might be expected to pay for some features that we currently get for free. I gave a few examples previously.

Quote:People can post from cell phones, from work, internet cafes, etc. so it isn't that hard. The thing that people don't consider is did they create completely new master accounts with each coh account or are they linked thru one NC master account.Hmm. That is a distinct possibility.
It's also a bad idea. This particular forum software records the IP address of the posting computer as each post as it's made, so unless a sock-puppet goes through the trouble of posting from a completely different network access point they will still be leaving a tag of their "real" identify on each post.
Most people don't go to the trouble of creating seperate master accounts, nor do they go to the extremes of paying for each account with different payment methods. That's usually where they get caught account hopping to avoid moderation.
I recall back when people were foaming at the mouth the first time the devs fixed the AE exploits. One person in particular claimed the mods couldn't shut her up because she had 5 more accounts (she implied that 2-3 of them had been modded). After that post we never heard from her again, and there were no subsequent posts claiming to be her on another account. -

Quote:Sorry if I was misunderstood. I wasn't referring to the number of posts that have been made but the content of the majority of of the posts. I wouldn't be surprised if someone got the impression the responses were antagonistic or inflammatory.Anything is possible, but i try not to include possible ulterior motives onto posts. I just base my reply to posts based on its contents.
Hope no one judges me by my short post history
I can't justify two accounts at the moment so i let my main lapse, i kept this one because it has more free character slots hehe.
Oh and I hope things get better for you financially. It sucks when you have to let an account lapse because money's tight. -

Quote:It's called auto-completeing and as Lothic explained it's purpose is to report a bugged or broken mission without having to wait for GM assistance. It isn't supposed to be used to skip things you don't like just to get the reward.(I don't know what the technical term is for calling a contact and completing the mission without actually doing it; I just call it "auto-completing.")
A question that answers itself.Quote:Why are some missions set so that you don't get the option to auto-complete them? Montague, in particular, seems to not like auto-completion for lots of his missions. I know you used to be able to auto-complete the raptor-pack mission in KR, but that was changed; I guess they figure you should earn it. But, in general, why are they so adamant about some missions being done manually? Thanks, all.
Well done. Since you already answered your own question there's no need to repeat the answer.

The graph may be factual but unless you can provide a link to an NCSoft website that confirms it's authenticity it proves nothing. As far as I can tell that graph looks like part of a report from an import/export company listing the number of shipping accounts they have and the income they made each quarter.
Facts without context are worthless. -
Quote:A Ferry is not a Train. I was largely joking by being literal. Normal people would have realized that by the way I wrote it. None of the zones I listed have Train access. It's as simple as that. Lighten up. I really have to LOL that you would say I'm not familiar with the game. Anybody here knows that's not the case. You obviously haven't been paying attention.
On a side note, it seemed we were referring to heroside only, and I was obviously joking about using the Vilainside zones to begin with, but if we were to include them for consideration, I'll add Monster Island and The Abyss.
Even though I agree the Ferry on Villainside servers the same purpose as the Heroside Train lines, I'm going to disagree with you that PI's Ferry serves the same purpose as well. The Train lines in CoH allow you to travel to multiple destinations from multiple locations. The Ferry in PI is only accessible from a single Ferry in Talos. Mechanically, that makes it no different than the security gate leading to DA as back and forth travel. If I'm going to use your point of view on the situation, then RWZ should no longer be included on your list because the Portals can serve the same purpose as the train too (though a little clunky). You can't have it both ways.
Just because the maps were derived from an existing zone, doesn't mean the game doesn't treat them as their own zones. Again.. largely a joke. Just because you are creating your own rules for why certain zones should be excluded from the list, doesn't mean everybody needs to follow them.
I accept your apology. No harm no foul. -
Quote:It sounds like you aren't very familiar with the game. Those zones are connected by Ferry's that serve the same purpose as the monorail. So no, those don't count. You are missing other obvious ones though...
Striga and Peregrine Island!
Then Villain zones...
Mercy Island, Port Oakes, Sharkhe... oh do these not count? lol
You can add them to the list if you can explain how the OP can enter those zones without using an Oro mission, an AE mission, or the Character Creator.Quote:How about Outbreak, Breakout, and Precinct 5?
Lord Winter's Realm is a collection of 5 winter maps of Croatoa.Quote:Edit:
I just remembered another one:
Lord Winter's Realm! woo-hoo!
I chose not to list them since 95% of the player base never uses them.Quote:Then the PvP zones...
Siren's Call
Bloody Bay
Warburg
Recluse's Victory -
That's what I started doing.

but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to grab a screenshot.
