Quote:That was because other than enhancements (TO's, DO's, and SO's) costumes, and conversions to prestige there was nothing to spend inf on. And I call shenanigans on the claim that people were giving away 20 million for CC's back in issue 1 and 2. Back then you couldn't even trade more than 50,000 at a time.I remember back in Issue 1 and 2. Everyone had more influence than we knew what to do with. There were always costume contests in Atlas. I remember recieving 20 Million Influence in a costume contest on the Triumph server as the new guy. There was almost a costume contest every few hours. Why? Because everyone has money. Getting 20 Million Influence at level 1 at the time would set that character for a while. I miss those days.
And you are wrong in that belief.Quote:With more money in the game than we can use be good. I say yes.
Vets giving new players a helping hand has nothing to do with how much currency they have. Nice players will be nice regardless of their personal wealth.Quote:People would usually just simply give it away. If you are new and someone just gave you money without asking, I see it as good. -
I wonder if part of the reason we haven't seen any increase in the number of slots we are allowed to have is because of their policy to lock slots on people found guilty of creating arcs designed to abuse AE exploits.

You see doom, and I see a game that is still profitable after 7 years.
-
Quote:Yep. If he hasn't bought and used all 8 of his slots already he has no grounds for complaining he doesn't have enough slots. I'd say the same thing to someone complaining about not having enough character slots on his favorite server if he hasn't bought and filled all 36 slots.Oh so that just solves everything. Yeah, he'd never fill up those extra five like he filled up his current three, fixed forever!
Edit: Oh and you do great work on the Vidiotmaps stuff. -
Quote:Epic failure on your part.So you've talked to tens of thousands of players about origins?
More likely, you havent even TEAMED with tens of thousands of players
1. I never claimed to have talked to nor teamed with tens of thousands of players. What I actually said is
and that 1 or 2 dozen people I did see talking about this idea is over 7 years of playing the game.Quote:At most all I have seen is one or two dozen people talking about this out of tens of thousands of players.
2. You are the one that is claiming there are a sizable number of people debating this issue when there is no evidence to support that statement.
Yeah that argument gets used a lot when someone is miffed that people don't agree their idea is the best thing since sliced bread.Quote:That doesn't make any logical sense whatsoever. -
Quote:We get 3 for free and we can buy 5 more for a total of 8. You said you are on your fourth story arc. You can buy 4 more. Don't see the problem.Alright, i just get so darn frustrated when I want to post my fourth mission in the series, and my comp says I have the max already posted. I'm not asking for much, just some more slots to build a plot. Maybe you can go to the online store and purchase more because I am so peeved that I cant build my idea without taking one down. They need to do something.

Quote:I'm sorry but I have a problem with your definition of "sizable". At most all I have seen is one or two dozen people talking about this out of tens of thousands of players. A "minute fraction" is a more accurate description of the number of people concerned about how origins work.Tech, not trying to be a jerk, but don't get so upset. This should just be a discussion.
Do you have any data that shows that the majority of the player base is against origins being given a more prominent role in the game?
Do you have evidence the devs dont?
So far a pretty sizeable group seems to exist on either side, with the vast majorty on both -agreeing- that the role shouldn't be game changing or penalize previous choices. The disagreement seems to be primarily how/if that could be achieved.
Yes we can. If origins was that important to the devs they wouldn't have scrapped it in the first place.Quote:And given that the devs -originally- did have origins playing a bigger role, can we say for sure they wouldn't LIKE to find a way to make them more prominent and still have us all happy? -
Quote:While you are probably right about why there is no hole in the gun barrel in game, I'd just like to comment that in RL gun mounts like that have plugs they put in the end of the barrel to keep things out of them while they aren't in use.Ok that's just lazy texturing. Not even a hole in the gun barrel...good luck firing that thing lol
Birds building nests for example.
The build up of crud in a gun barrel can cause the gun to burst when fired and kill the crew.
On my ship we had rubber plugs to put in the barrels of our main guns and tarps that covered the loading mechanisms. On the smaller weapon systems tarps were used to cover the entire weapon. -
I can't believe that you have trouble believing that there are people that don't slot their builds the same the way you do.

Additional Market Slot - Great idea. /signed
Discount on Market Fees - Oh hell no. I'd much rather see an increase in market fees. We need more and larger inf sinks in the game not smaller ones. /unsigned
Reduce Day Job times by 1/3 (From 21 days to 14 days) - meh. No opinion. -
LOL!
I just had to check out who that was named after (count de Forbin-Gardanne) and found this on wikipedia.

Reading it I stumbled across this line
Boy does that sound a lot like me.Quote:Sometimes hated for his harsh and strong personality

Quote:Absolutely not. Veteran rewards should not contribute to a haves vs. have-nots feeling in the game between veterans and new players. It's a line that's already been crossed a couple times in my opinion, and this would be a worse idea than any of them.
That's inevitable. Any kind of reward given to players for keeping their accounts active will be viewed by some as unfair because they don't want to wait until they earn it. There will always be people with entitlement issues that demand instant gratification.
And every single reward "crosses that line" and generates those feelings. People however have different opinions on what they deem a valuable reward. One person may only care about the temp powers, another may treasure the vetspecs, while a third may not care about any of them. -
That ship reminds me of the Arleigh Burke class destroyer. -
Quote:Interesting that you define a priori that the EU players would be the ones who would be forced to change their handles. And then label people with such colourful monikers.
Ah, you crazy NAers... (see what I did there?)
Heh. To be honest I wasn't trying to offend anyone, I was looking at it from the perspective that if the EU and NA servers were to merge into one large comprehensive list that the EU players would be gaining the most. They'd be going from 4 servers to 15, and they'd be gaining 132 character slots. So if that were to happen to me, I'd find the annoyance of possibly having to rename my global/account names a minor irritation that would go away after I chose a new name.
I'm sorry that my opinion that the group that stands to gain the most should be the one to put up with the name changing offended anyone. -
Quote:I think very few EU players would be very angry about it if they made it clear that tho they may have to choose new global/account names but in return for that minor inconvienence they'll be getting 11 new servers with 12 character slots per server, and access to thousands of new players.I believe the biggest hurdle would be account names. Let's say someone has the account name "Superhero" on the NA servers. There could be someone else with the account name "Superhero" on the EU servers. If they merged NA and EU accounts, who would get to keep the name. If they change both names like they did with the forums, how would they let the account holders know?
(Note: I could be wrong on this, I know two accounts can have the same global name on the NA and EU servers, but I'm not 100% sure if it holds true for game account names, but trying to log in without realizing that your account name has changed would be a large annoyance for many people)
Sure there will always be twits that get pissed off. If the devs gave us solid gold bricks there'd be morons complaining that the devs didn't give them a wheelbarrow to carry them in. -
Quote:I've seen it mentioned in several threads, and I've made the suggestion in quite a few threads where someone tried starting the old "the servers are dead and should be merged" rant.Really? I've never seen anyone request it before. Of course there was that one year I quit due to Real Life Stuff.
Yeah at this time they don't merge accounts.Quote:Another problem I just though of is that I have a Global Friend in the U.K. that has 2 accounts. An EU account and a North American account. If the 2 were to merge, he would need to select which account to remain active since all would merge, or he can continue to pay for 2 separate accounts. -
Quote:Merging the NA and EU server lists is a popular idea we've been asking for for several years.I remember last year practically all the servers are yellow. Now every night I see both Virtue and Freedom always constantly in the red. I see this as a good thing since the game may be getting more popular.
What I am suggesting is that we open up more servers. I am not suggesting we just create more servers from scratch. I am suggesting we open up the European servers so we can create characters there and for Europeans to create characters on the North American Servers. Let's have all servers available to all players.
I never really understood why we had to separate the servers anyway between continents. Maybe for the Language barrier maybe. You can always have a message pop up saying, "Warning, This is a French Speaking Server. All Dialogue will be in French."
Is this a good idea? Bad Idea?

Quote:The devs have told us they will never give us any sort of free level bumps. The only time and place they use level bumps is on the test server when testing new powersets/AT's and high level content. The VET rewards now are plenty, and I think they are running low on ideas. I just see the same ones being repeated. Another free respec or free costume change.
Here is an idea for, I don't know, how about a 99 month vet reward.
You press button to claim reward while in character.
Free Level - No matter what level you are, You claim this reward you automatically simply gain one level. If you are already level 50, you cannot claim. Instead you automatically collect an extra 50 Million Influence.
If you don't like 50 Mil, Why not make it 99 Mil Influence? It has been 99 months.
I know what you are thinking. This is so broken it gives people who have been around longer a greater advantage.
I hate to say to the newbie. Well, duh. If you have been paying for this game already for 99 months, I would think that said individual should have a number of Level 50 characters already with a bunch of influence already. Giving said individual an Extra 50 Mil per level 50, I can see as a good thing. It is also a very handsome reward to look foward to.
The idea of free inf isn't broken because only 7+ year vets would get it, It's broken because it can easily be abused solely for inf accumulation. Power leveling a character is already ridiculously easy for players, and it's even easier for RMT sites. This idea would let them destroy our already inf laden economy and send inflation careening to infinity.
We need more effective inf sinks not more horribly abusive inf generators. -
Quote:But that aside, if we're putting the show up to a real life test, I don't have a problem with the Cape not having much publicity. As has been said, Fleming has control of major media, and other than that, how much legit publicity would a low rent Batman actually get? People doing the real life costumed protector thing are taken as seriously as alien visitor theories. and as far as we know, Faraday isn't doing anything like making daily attempts to stop crime. He's gunning for ARK and Fleming, another factor that limits his exposure.
You mean like these real life super hero wannabees?
http://news.reallifesuperheroes.org/...articles-2011/
Note: I'm not trying to be mean to them just pointing out that they are nothing more than average local people from all over the country getting media attention. -
There's no argument that this would be a huge convenience for everyone but there have been some arguments made in the past that I can see the logic to in SG's where the leaders use certain bins for personal storage and they don't want everyone knowing what they are keeping in the bins.
In those cases they also use creative base building to make private rooms that only the leaders with access to the base architect can enter.
So I'd say if this feature was added it would be nice if they included an option that would allow them to individually select bins whose contents could be set to a private mode that wouldn't appear on a general list of items in storage. -
Quote:Thanks for making me laugh. You reminded me of a particular thread made by someone complaining how CoH was too expensive for him because he was on disability and had to live on $900 per month. Then in the same post he listed his "monthly" expenses.5. It's only $14.95 per month. I don't know why people think $14.95 is so expensive. If you divide 14.95 by 30 day.... that's how much you spend per day. How much is movie ticket these days?
CoH $14.99
another online game $9.99
X-Box $50.
PSU $9.99
another online game $14.99
Groceries/alcohol/restaurants $300.
rent $279.
maid service $40.
porn $20.
car insurance $50.
renters insurance $25.
life insurance $10.
Gas $30.
credit reports $25.
Now this right here put his monthly expenses at $878.96 but that wasn't enough, he had to go even further and say he also had other monthly expenses where he didn't list how much they cost
dental insurance
new furniture and electronics (he never explained how this was a monthly expense)
6 more games he named and admitted to buying/subscribing to more
gambling
movie theatres
video rentals
postage stamps
medical bills for surgery
$1200. for a new computer
and he was considering buying a lifetime subscription to another super hero MMO. (which ran about $200-$300)
And he got mad at everyone that pointed out that if what he said was true he was spending more money than he was earning from disability and the price of CoH was the least of his worries.
