(Or ignore it totally, that's the joy of optional roleplaying)
[/ QUOTE ]
Kind of hard to ignore a warzone when there are bombs falling around you and Rikti trying to kill you... -

[ QUOTE ]
we actually outnumber the PvPers (at least in the EU)
[/ QUOTE ]
You do? What are the numbers?
[/ QUOTE ]
Basing that on the number of people in the PVP zones, and the number of people I know that RP -

It would be nice if we could get some kind of official stance on this sort of thing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry if I'm missing the obvious, but an official statement regarding what, exactly?
[/ QUOTE ]
With regards to how the invasion is affecting the city as a whole, from a story point of view. Obviously, for game purposes, the bombs aren't going to be causing actual damage to the zones themselves, so how is that explained? Are the bombs some sort of neutron based device that only damages organic matter and not buildings? Or is there damage actually happening (like in the first war), but we just have to metagame it? Just one of the small things that a gamer won't care about, but RPers do. The same goes for city infrastructure and so on. The invasion is great and all, but.. well.. For RPers, not seeing anything actually HAPPEN to the zone itself has a negative effect on immersion.

I know they don't really consider us roleplayers to be worth much effort or even thought, but considering we actually outnumber the PvPers (at least in the EU) who get loads of attention in-game, a little consideration for our continued enjoyment of the game would be nice.
[/ QUOTE ]
A massive upheaval in the storyline of the game doesn't give roleplayers anything to enjoy or have fun with?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, it does. It gives us LOTS to enjoy and play with. But it also massively changes the way we roleplay and for a few, may put them right off it. (Note: I'm not one, but I know of a couple who do feel this way). It's also difficult for us to be consistent with each other as beyond the 20 minute or so zone raids, we won't SEE anything of the war in the zone. No side effects, no peds talking about the attack; all the stuff you'd expect in a warzone.

I'm all for an invasion that doesn't go on for an undermined amount of time, but as it is, it will hugely impact everyone, even those who don't want to partake. In some extremes, people might even leave as they can't enjoy the game how they used to
[/ QUOTE ]
It's entirely possible that, being so busy, I may have missed complaints about the Invasion, but so far the vast majority of the player feedback I've seen about Issue #10 has been very positive.
[/ QUOTE ]
No complaints Bridger, just concerns that the open ended nature of the war in Issue 10 will have long term consequences on peoples RP; making the way we're used to RPing a thing of the past. Now for some that's perfectly OK; but would YOU happily face the prospect of the way you do something being changed by events beyond your control? -
Actually, in the latest patch notes on the US test server, they've adjusted the zone spanws a bit more; to take into account the number of heroes at a spawn site. Hopefully, that'll make things more manageable.

Well... Consider... If you Are Playing a Hero in the Game and You'll stand and Fight. Whats More important to them? Getting there Private Life Sorted in which Case Grab your Loved ones and Get under Cover, Or Saving the Lives of Everyone in the City?
Most of my Characters Will be the Later although a few would be the Former. And if you have something Private to Rp, Wouldnt it be Better to Rpit Somewhere Safe When there Is a War Declared?? Makes Ic Sense if you Ask me...
[/ QUOTE ]
But it's not just about your characters, the players wants come rather heavily into it as well, and some just won't want their regular RP interrupted.
Oh, and please Rickman; could you try not to capitalise every other word? It makes your posts rather difficult to read. -
Not to mention tools trying to RP Vanguard soldiers, complete with all the gear, turning up and harrassing the various non-humans at the statue!

And as for those that claim GG is going to be ruined because of this, it wont. the invasion isn't constant, you can still hang around GG.
Just when you hear that air raid siren, it would be best to run into the hero-corps building.
[/ QUOTE ]
But that's just it. People at GG are mostly RPing heroes of the city. If there's an air raid, the last thing they would do ICwise is run and hide. They'd fight off the attack. That's perfectly fine, ICly, but what about when the player themself wants to get on with some private plot, or just socialise with their friends. They have to either break character, or interrupt what they were doing for the duration of the raid.
Now, that's not too bad really if the raids end after a couple of weeka and the Rikti are contained in the RWZ, but that's not going to happen. There will be further raids, triggered by the completion of the RWZ TF, in random zones. That's great for in-game realism and all, but REALLY frustrating for roleplayers who DON'T want their evenings messed up.
For me, I'm going to go along with it with my characteters, but I can certainly see what those who don't like the idea of a long term war are getting at. It will, afterall, be VERY disruptive.
I have a feeling PD is going to get busier, just so that people can avoid the air raids interrupting their RP. -

Poor Pious! You know, people asking for avatars COULD help him out a bit and actually provide images for him. It's rather cheeky to be asking him to search out the images too!
-
The secondary effects won't happen in game, no. But story wise, they should as they're a logical progression of a war zone. Just look at any of the real conflicts that went on in history; each of the things described have happend to one extent or another...

[ QUOTE ]
What kind of effects will it have on the city however, that would be reflected in RP?
[/ QUOTE ]
How about... not a thing?
Sure, there's an invasion, big deal, it's not like it's the first.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seeing as the first invasion resulting in the devastation of most of the city, and the deaths of most of the cities hero population; I'm not sure this one will be ignorable... -
I imagine Longbow will take up that task, they already have patrols. Remember though, this is another worldwide attack, so UN forces are going to be stretched to the max all around the world. Relief shipments of food and medical supplies might not be as readily available as thought, as everywhere is fighting for survival.

I thought Paragon was pretty grim anyway, with the aftermath of the 1st war.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nah, that's Frosty Robot's reflection...
But anyway... Though we won't see them in game as such, there are things that tend to happen in besieged cities in a war.
Martial Law, food rationing, looting, profiteering, increased petty crime, sanitation problems and associated danger of disease, hospital and air raid shelter overcrowding, orphaned kids. Heroes will be called on to repel the invaders, defend hospitals and shelters as well as important buildings, undertake pro-active missions... All SORTS of unpleasant stuff that should allow lots of extra scope for us to experiment with... -
Oh I know that Praf, but it'll still be there.. In the RWZ and in random raids. Paragon will never return to how it was completely.. It can't. Things are much grimmer now!
-
Unfortunately, that's something we ALL have to adjust too... I can't say a constant war setting is what I was looking for either; but it's the direction Cryptic have decided to take, so I'll go along and see where it takes me.
-
Don't see it as a reason to stop RPing, Kelvin. Embrace it and see it as a chance to try different kinds of RP! In the face of war, humour becomes even MORE important! Battle weary heroes NEED to be able to relax and unwind after a hard day at the front. The Scotbot could easily serve those needs if you're so inclined...
One or two of my characters will be removed from play for the duration of the main invasion event, for IC reasons. Others will embrace it and revel in the combat. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yes, I am a nay-sayer! I've tried to avoid plots since the RHU, and the 'Heroes for People' thing when I last left just hammered that determination further...
[/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, whilst RP only plots can be ignored without too much effort; something happening in the game universe, especially something as large scale as a global invasion, can't be.
I think we're ALL going to have to make adjustments to our characters from I10's launch, as even when the initial world event is over; random zone invasions will still be triggered by people doing the TF in the RWZ.
Eventually, a new status quo will be established; but it's going to be a more war centric one I'm afraid. The Rikti aren't going away this time. -
Hmm... I've come up with an interesting plot for my main to be doing during the invasion... Look out for fiction when it starts!

Fusebox. Kinda had to place the icons above, her face was too far below center. Hope you like it Z.

No worries, that's fine where they are.It was a bit of an awkward photo I got her from (by awkward, read nude :P) and I didn't want her shoulder getting in the way.

Having seen the full shot it came from, I didn't see anything awkward in it at ALL! -

I'm around from time to time boyo.

In fact, back before the forum reshuffle when CoV was launched, the forum description for the Union forum also said "Unofficial Roleplay Server". Would be good if we could get that back...

Just about the oldest way of communicating over the internet; barring Telnet. It stands for Internet Relay Chat and is the original form of chatrooms you get on some websites today. You're pretty much unlimited in how you can express yourself on there.
I run a private IRC server for some friends and I, but there are many many global networks out there...
