  1. I have an 8600GT. I upgraded from a 6200. So the jump in performance was substantial. Personally, I find this card works perfectly well with anything I've thrown at it thus far. In CoX you'll be able to turn up a lot of the settings to max if not just below max. Some specific settings you may need to take it easy on, but the good stuff you'll be able to have fairly high.

I'm excited for you cause you'll get to notice all the little things that make this game look so great. Such as the reflective metal on mostly all of the Arachnos bases/buildings. When I first saw that I was like :O

  3. Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed the forums took a dramatic hit to responsiveness the last few days?

I've had database errors pop up, half pages loading and over 2 minute waits for some pages to load. If this is happening to more than a few people, maybe we can have someone look at it for us.

Post here with any issues you've been having with the forums over the last week with regards to slowness, half loading or any database errors. Hopefully we're not running into the same issue as the previous forum software.
  4. I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing this but, lately I've noticed this skin is causing the forums to respond ridiculously slow and sometimes only half loading pages.

I've run with this skin turned off and the forums respond lickety split without any errors.

    Anyone else having this issue?

Update: And of course the forums make a liar out of me yet again Doesn't look like it's an issue with this skin. Sorry Zombie. Keep up the good work!
  5. I doubt we'll hear anything tonight. I'm sure we would have by now. It's been at least a few hours since it went down.

I really wanted to test some stuff out
  6. Looks like it might be down for the night, unfortunately.

I still can't get on it.
  7. That's what I was afraid of. I didn't see any mention of down time anywhere on the forums, so I'm thinking it's either gone down because it crashed or something else is going on.

I admit that I waited a good 30 minutes before posting as I hoped it had come back up by now. Well at least now we know that it's actually down and not just toying with us

Hopefully it gets fixed soon. I was hoping to test some new toons.
  8. Although the server status list shows the test server as down, I was on it minutes prior.

I logged out to switch characters and am unable to get back on. I can log in and "Training Room" shows up in green, but I can't proceed to the character list.

I'm sure it's most likely down and there's a reason as no one else is posting about it, but I can't seem to find anywhere stating it would be down at this time.

Anyone else having issues with it?

I mean really, who the flip cares if a commercial entity is using something designed for personal use. Who are you to decide whether that's acceptable or not?

How about sticking to the topic and helping the OP?

    On that note:

I use Avast or AntiVir and highly recommend them. I steer clear of AVG. Too many issues.

  11. Just a heads up, this morning I've been getting error messages when navigating around the forums.

    One of the error messages:

Fatal error: Memcache is not installed in [path]/includes/class_datastore.php on line 186

I believe there was another I saw ending in "189"

I have to refresh 1-3 times for the page to load instead of that error message. Something is certainly borked....
  12. I have also very frequently come across these issues. There is definitely something up with the ID editor. Whether it's an issue with the client itself or our computers, there is a problem.

I'm not sure if you're just ignoring my posts or not reading them correctly. Windows 7 hit RTM July 22nd. The RTM is NOT a Release Candidate. It's the final build. Windows 7 hits shelves October 22nd of THIS year. 2009. That's not far away at all.

so i dont know what the OP is saying or doing to his system to make it run like crap.
oh wait thats right he might be boot camped on a Mac not really the system to test a PC software on when it isnt released yet.
As much as I disagree with Manga's observations about Windows 7, there's no reason to purposely mock. I was misunderstood earlier in this thread, but this is just plain rude.

Read the rest of the thread before posting like an idiot. Manga doesn't have to do something to the machine to make it have issues. Insinuating that this person deliberately caused their own issue is ridiculous. As for the comment about running it under Boot Camp, who cares? It should still work. Assuming their are drivers for a Mac's specific hardware (Windows 7 drivers) there would be no reason it wouldn't work. Educate yourself.

And if you don't believe me as a Red Name, I have been talking to a GM on the Support Pages since Win7 beta came out. Been watching these issues. CoH just hasnt upgraded to Support the Drivers because of all the changed that Microsoft keeps making. So Downgrading any driver that doesn't work on CoH to the Vista Final Driver works great.

Maybe part of the issue is you and Manga believe Windows 7 is still in Beta. This is not the case. Please do your research before making statements such as "Win7 still in Beta Phase to October". This is incorrect and you're going to confuse people.

Windows 7 has already hit RTM (Release to Manufacturing). It moved from the Release Candidate to RTM on July 22nd. Most OEM's such as HP, Dell, Sony etc have the released product. Windows 7 hits shelves in stores on October 22nd of this year. I'm not sure where you're getting March from.

That stuff aside, when one person experiences difficulties out of the box, it does not a broken product make. Just because Manga experienced difficulties (as I'm sure some others have as well), does not mean the product is not ready. It will never ever work perfectly right of the box on every single machine, to think it will is ridiculous.

Edit: I also forgot to mention the fact that a drivers issue has nothing to do with the OS itself. If it is in fact an issue with one of the drivers Manga is experiencing, it has little to do with how "ready" Windows 7 is. Microsoft has no control over how quickly or effectively a driver is written/released. Maybe that shed's some light on why using a general blanket statement like "Windows 7 Not Ready!" is incorrect.

I am currently running a 64 bit Vista machine, running AMD dual core 3.0Ghz (so about 6Ghz total), 8 gigs of memory, with a 8200 Hybrid SLI Mobo, a GT9800 (I checked and the model im using supports Hybrid tech), between the Mobo and 9800, i run 3 screens (i don't feel like using the VGA port on the Mobo, or else i could run 4).

The issue I am having is with the NVIDIA drivers.... 64 bit vista evidently wont download and/or install the hybrid drivers, so i cant set the screens to turn on or off based on whats going on, using less power. As a side affect, when I am running CoX on high settings (or any graphics intensive game) I get a Sli line where there are two slightly differant refresh rates. (By SLi line i mean all 3 screen are being read as 1, and the mobo and 9800 work together the way multiple sli cards linked run, so the 8200 processes the top 1/3 of the screen, and the 9800 the bottom 2/3). On lower settings its fine, and if I turn off the Mobo graphics drivers, the 9800 runs beautifully.

So what I am looking for is eaither the Vista hybrid 64bit app, or to find out if Win7 has 64bit setup and has the app on it.

Other than that, is there a way, without buying a splitter, to have multiple screens being read as 1, IE Coh reads the desktop's resolution, and i can't stretch the windowed mode through all three screens (at some point the client doesnt like being pulled ant further), and I am wanting to make some multi monitor screen shots.

Thanks for any help you might have.

You might want to try starting your own thread. You're more likely to get assistance with your specific issue rather than in a thread about something completely different

And any QA department would also state the same thing. Firefox is useless if it cannot, with all varibles being the same, log all into the system.

Perhaps, instead, you can "Help" the discussion. What version of firefox are you running? What add-ons do you have? What are the java/security settings your using for your browser? What about your OS? What Service pack?
Perhaps rather than making sweeping generalizations such as "Firefox is useless to us" you could have asked for the information in your original post.

I'm not currently at home so I can't answer in full detail. I know I'm running one of the 3.5.x.x Firefox builds. Extensions that could/would interfere with something like a login are NoScript, Session Manager and AdBlock+. I'm running Vista Home Premium 64-bit.

If you haven't tried deleting all cookies related to this site, that should be your first step as this resolves this the majority of the time.

Incorrect. It is useless for you maybe, but I am running Firefox and all is running just as it should. So it's not "useless for Firefox users".

    1. First, it's a pre-release right now, and when it is released, nearly all of us are going to have to go through another complete re-install, both to get a clean system and because the pre-release is "Ultimate", and most people are going to effectively downgrade to "Home Basic" or "Home Premium".
The Beta as well as the RC are what most have CoH up and running just fine on.

    2. Microsoft could still make some substantial changes before it hits release.
There were a lot of changes between the RC and RTM. It's already hit RTM so there will be no more changes. But you're using the RC, so the RTM may actually resolve some of your issues.

In summary, I probably could have got it working - maybe - if I tried reinstalling Windows 7 and everything *again*. Or it's possible I even have to get into upgrading BIOS, video card firmware, etc. But then we get into territory where a normal person who doesn't know that stuff would be unable to do an install like this successfully, and the only answer they'll get here is likely LOL BUY A NEW PC.
With the way Windows 7 has progressed and it's uncanny ability to run well on older hardware, I think it's a safer bet to assume there will be more of a willingness to help resolve an issue than to just say "LOL BUY A NEW PC".

My post wasn't to say Windows 7 sucks, just that it's not quite ready unless you're the adventurous type. The final release will probably be different, and I'll re-test it then.
It's already hit RTM and there have been changes made. It's more "ready" than you think

    Forum broken?

Yes. You'll find several other threads about this issue. A lot of them right on the very first page of this forum.

You didn't say that no. But you definitely implied it by using that statement. There are several on these boards that have been running it just fine. Sure some have had issues, but that's no different than anyone on any OS. I guess the point I'm trying to make is this, it may not work properly on your machine but that doesn't mean it's "not ready". Using a statement like that would make perfect sense had there not been so many already running it just fine.

I apologize if I came off a bit snarky. That wasn't my intention. I was just confused as to why you would consider and entire operating system as "not ready" (even if just in terms of this game) when there is evidence to the contrary.

I really do hope you're able to resolve this issue though, so you can see just how well it really does work.

The Windows 7 RC disc I got came as an extra with an OEM version of Vista Home Premium, so it was legit - not some version downloaded off the internet. I also fully patched it until there were nothing but languages left in Windows Update.

The point, though, is that if I managed to have problems with a by-the-book install (thankfully I was able to *play* CoH at least) on a computer designed to run Vista, there will be a hundred times as many at the Windows 7 launch.
I'd like to think you're intelligent enough to understand that Vista and 7 are two different operating systems, and although yes they should be very similar in terms of software compatibility, there are differences and there certainly are different drivers.

Just because it didn't work on your machine properly, does not mean a blanket statement such as "Windows 7 Not Ready!" is warranted. I'm sure if you asked for some assistance, someone here could help you find a solution.

That being said, I'd like to point out I simply installed Windows 7 (clean install), installed my video drivers and then installed City of Heroes and had 0 issues. It ran right off the bat. Your issue is with a piece of your hardware and probably the drivers you're using for said hardware. Plain and simple. It's not necessarily anything YOU'RE doing, so don't take this so personally. The manufacturer of the issue drivers may not have created a fix yet.

From the guides and videos I've seen of Windows 7 running on older hardware, there's a lot to rave about. Windows 7 is a step in a very nice direction. It's not often these days Microsoft is praised, this time it's very much worth it
  25. Windows 7 and CoH work just fine together. If it's not working for you, there is clearly an issue with your setup. Either the drivers for a piece of your hardware has not been upgraded to Windows 7 standards or a driver is just not functioning properly.
