Quote:Thanks Dusk.In before Heat or Voltium reply:
You reporting them will be laughed at. They weren't TROLLS, but more so just playing to their character's personality. You obviously got your knickers in a bunch.
I'll let you in on a little secret, Rintera. For the most part, the groups we play in are pretty closed off. Reporting us to our superiors will usually result in a laugh between friends because, hey, we all like each other, who cares what others think? I'd also like to point out that we are not indicative of our friends. Don't rush off to blacklist all of our friends just because of us.
Have fun all, and don't take this so seriously, it's bad for your health. -
Hello all! I am "frat boy" numero dos, Heatpulse!
I think Volt's already summed it up pretty nicely, but I wanted to address one thing, one of the "golden rules" of RP if you will. There are always going to be griefers and there will always be people who's RP is not up to the level of seriousness and maturity that some people require (sad that some people won't loosen up, but what are you going to do?). The thing is, these people can usually be ignored (not necessarily /ignored, mind you). Now, this takes a certain level of OOC maturity to do, but I like to think that the average player is mature enough OOC to ignore annoying people IC. I've already talked to Nalrok about this, but I thought I'd repeat it here.
Another thing I wanted to address was this:
Quote:Seriously people? I don't know whether that was cowardice, or just not wanting to get involved, but either way that's just stupid of you. Yeah, I'm calling you stupid, know why? Because rather than try to salvage the event, you just ran off to find something else to do. I do feel bad for busting up Nalrok's event, but at the same time, if you guys weren't willing to tough it out, then you're equally to blame in my eyes. I might be contradicting myself here in that I started off by saying you should ignore people like us, and now I'm saying confront us, but if people are being that annoying, a polite /tell can work wonders. If not, at least you can say you tried.I had about 9 people let me know in /tells that they were upset due to the players causing the whole mess,
This post is a little bit more antagonistic and confrontational than Volt's, but it was intended to shock you into realizing that you could have done more than tell Nalrok his event was ruined as you left. That helps nothing, people. -

Straight up, the redesign sucks.
I'm with Thirty-Seven here, use the new pieces in moderation and with more than two colors. And for God's sake give them back their robes. I could care less if we the players got robes, but for a villain group to have robes for the last 7 years and suddenly get rid of them for this? Just ugh. -
Quote:Um, I'm not requesting anything in this thread. People are saying they love the new armor, some of us are saying it doesn't look superhero-y. Shade comes in saying "Oh I guess we'll have to get rid of all this other stuff to make the game feel 'right' to all the haters" and I clarified that I was not calling for the deletion of any options, just the addition of more stuff that is not glowy armor to counteract it. It wasn't a request, it was a clarification.Thing is, you're in this thread, that's about not that, talking about that. That's a kind of "Enough about your stuff, let's talk about mine!" if you're coming in a place where everyone is going on about one thing to talk about your own personal desires, it's going to chafe. This isn't a thread to request more tights patterns, if you want to do that, no one is stopping you from doing so and if someone came in to say something against it you could debate them as we're doing you here/
And don't tell me "They'll probably be adding tights patterns for the new armor." I heard you the first time, no need to repeat yourself.
Quote:I could honestly care less about this armor, maybe the wings, maybe some of the weapons, but this armor is completely neutral for me. That said, I'm all in favor of lots more no-tights related options in-game since even when I give my characters tight clothes I generally give them tight clothes.
Quote:I do think that like most things, ADF, Defense, and probably this armor too will have a tights option and an accompanying pattern. as have most things in this game since launch. (Sport, Alpha, Omega, Overguard,)
Quote:1: This isn't the place for that
2: They generally are in some form or another
Quote:It's not, and should be done, but it should be done for everything in general and not just tights.
Quote:So far we've seen three costume sets, Celstial Armor, IDF, And Defense, Defense is amost exclusively tights, IDF is Tights and Some Armor bits, and Celestial looks to have a tight under-pattern as well. You're not really "Left out" -
Quote:No, no, no, no. You're overgeneralizing. I'm not against adding more options. I just want stuff that's reminiscent of the "classic superhero" look. If that wasn't clear then that's my fault.A hero can be anything, and the same goes for superheros. Its not a matter of how they look (so to speak), but how they use their powers / gifts / skills and for what purpose. Yes, spandex has been a prime part of superheroes, but to say that armor like the Ascencion Armor and Celestial Armor is not needed is close minded and imho, shows a lack of imagination. If you have the right concept and mind behind it, those pieces fit very well into the game.
By the logic I'm seeing of the haters, we'd have to remove 99% of the items from the Booster Packs and from the releases to be a 'right' Superhero game, something I figure that would kill the game.
You guys keep making the argument that we already have tons of Spandex stuff, but we have tons of big, bulky armor stuff as well, not all of it glows like the new stuff, but it's there.
Quote:What, exactly, would you add to tights that isn't already there? 220 subtle variations on vertical striping patterns to allow exactly the right sort of stripes for every outfit?
Quote:Since when is it "all about spandex" out in comic-book land?
I mean, sure, some of the classic hero-types do wear the stuff almost exclusively, but that's not universal. Many of the costume designs that have spandex bits in them *also* include plenty of other, non-spandex bits, too. (See Green Arrow's outfit, for instance, or Thor's-). They're not limited to skin-tight body-suits.
Some characters wouldn't look at all like themselves in a get-up like Superman or the Flash wear, either. Can you imagine, say, Warlord or The Question in something like that? Heck, I'll even throw my own favorite out there... Try to picture Doctor Strange in an all-bodysuits-all-the-time world. (It was bad enough when they tried that with Clea's costume. I'd hate to see it happen to poor Stephen. o_0)
Quote:no, actually the last time we got them(vandal perplex, arctic and the like), they were pretty nice, its more the attitude that in order to get tights, lets screw over people who enjoy anime, medieval comics, military comics, powersuits, supernatural characters, monster characters, modern superhero fans and the like, because they dont belong.
Quote:i don't mind tights, i rarely use them because for a character that is supposed to integrate into a real-ish world, they look hysterically corny, but they have their place in comics, generally in older, throw-back comics where they dont look drastically corny in context, but that is one thing i hate about longbow, non-powered people wearing tights just looks silly and would be horribly non-functional. where the heck do they even store their ammo?(yes i know some wear bandoleers, most dont) What i'd like to see is tights being treated a bit like martial arts outfits. you can use most martial arts in a comfortable set of jeans and a t-shirt, but the robes and gi's are there to visually distinguish the character right away as a martial artist. tights on enemy groups should be limited to those who are actually powered. in this respect crey gets it the most correct, gunmen and techie guys wear appropriate armor, and the powered wear tights, great progression.. we also got a lot of "tights" enemies and allies in tips missions. but for the overall game, i like the balanced approach, more tights, sure yeah, but in balance with more power armor, more martial arts garb(why the HELL dont we have a good fighting cheongsam yet?) and more beast options.
Quote:It also helps that the only meaningful things they could add to tights options in this game
1: Third color option
2: asymmetrical design options
would probably require new tech/nodes/programming and would affect those "Other" style costume pieces as well.
Quote:The point being only thing that can currently be added to tights is something that needs to be added to the game as a whole, not a "tights specific" option. -
Quote:Yeah but you know what's the same for all those heroes except for Iron Man and the Hulk? They all wear spandex! The variety is to tell them apart and illustrate their powers or background, but the basic spandex look is still there. And superheroes can be of all costume differences. Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Green Lantern, and more. A lot of them have the same style, yes, but there is still variety from each hero to the next. Even villains have variety. Dr. Doom, Galactus. Dr. Octopus, Kingpin, etc.
Villains vary a lot more so than heroes in comic books. You have just as many spandex-clad villains (so very many examples) as you do criminal kingpins in suits (Lex Luthor, Kingpin), monstrous villains (The Lizard, Gorilla Grodd), and villains in power armor (Dr. Doom, Iron Monger).
So yes you have many variations in superheroes and villains, but one of the staples of comic book heroes and villains (what this game is supposed to be based on) is spandex.
Quote:Putting the links and quoting Sam helped his point. -
And that's the kind of stuff I want to see. More patterns, how about something like large letters that take up the whole chest, more mask options (the option to use the oni guard without the half helmet is something I'd love).
Glowy is fine, but make it look superhero-y.
This was posted to disprove Xan's opinion, but it's a perfect example of the kind of stuff I wouldn't mind seeing in the costume creator:
-
If you actually read what I posted, you'd see that I noted all three of those as plausible, but not as much as spandex.

Quote:City of Heroes is a game about superheroes. As such, it should represent superheroes. When most people think "Superhero", they think Superman, or Batman, or Spider-Man. People don't usually think tailored suits, casual street clothes, anime armour (Okay, anime fans do), alien carapace, their underwear, pirate getups, ninja costumes, robot forms (Doable), animal forms, monster forms (Hulk, so that's fine I guess) and more. What I mean is I enjoy City of Heroes because in this game, really any thematic is appropriate. Comic Books aside, heroes can fight crime in tailored suits, casual street clothes, anime armour, alien carapace, their underwear, pirate getups, ninja costumes, robot forms, animal forms, monster forms and more. That no one aesthetic reigns supreme over all others is something I consider to be a huge perk of the game. For this reason, whenever I see allusions that "classic" super heroes are somehow "better" and the game suffers for not having most be like this, it just bugs me.
City of Heroes is a game about freedom of expression and variety of experiences far more so than it is about representing any one theme, topic or genre.
You are playing a game about superheroes. I'm not saying you have to dress up in spandex and a cape, but that's what should take precedent in my opinion.
As to the person who said the system can't handle asymmetry, I don't believe we need the crazy asymmetry they have over in CO (Though something like that would be great), but asymmetrical patterns seem totally doable. We already have the 50/50 mask, why can't we have more like that? -
Here is my still unnamed DP character:
He's a retired hero that lost his powers in his final battle with his nemesis. After several years of living as a normal citizen, he has been contacted by a mysterious person who says that they know how to help him regain his powers. With nothing else to go on, our hero picks up a pair of pistols and goes to find his answers and hopefully regain his powers. -
Dunno if i can still do this, but here is my revised submission:
Statesman and Back Alley Brawler:
Synapse and Positron:
Manticore and Sister Psyche:
Numina and Citadel:

BOOM:
Statesman and Back Alley Brawler
Positron and Synapse
Manticore and Sister Psyche
Numina and Citadel

Sold it for about 1.8 bil on the market. Not as much as I was hoping, but I can dig it.
-
Just a heads up. I'm in the midst of trying to raise the money to sell this thing on the Black Market, so to anyone who's interested, you better get it before I sell it.
-
Oh that's cool bro. This is my thread but feel free to use it to sell your stuff too...
-
-
Alrighty, not quite sure how this works, but here goes.
I recently got a level 50 recipe for a Gladiator's Armor: Teleportation Protection, +Def(All). I know this thing costs a lot, and I have no use for it. Rather than trying to raise the money to sell it, I thought I'd let everyone here know that I was interested in selling it.
This is villain side on the Virtue server so either hit me up with a PM here or contact me in game as @Fire Wyrm with your offer. -
Quote:Oh oh! Do I count? Do I count?Well, sometimes I occasionally bump into Eveningstar2. So yes.
But to answer you seriously, I don't know what Pocket D you go to but that kind of rp you're describing happens there all the time. And then there's certain sgs out there that exist only to be random and silly, though I can't think of any off hand.. -

Quote:Hey, that's me!I browse VV randomly sometimes when I'm eating out of my lunch pail at work.
I come across gems all the time, and I think it is nice to recognize other people's fine work:
This I thought was a great page and character, too good not to highlight:
Backtrack VV Page
One thing to note, is this a redirect, but it will take you to where you want to go.
Check out "Step" as well, a descendant, and then check out the page on time threads as well.
Virtue, you do great stuff. VV, we all owe you a debt of gratitude.
I guess it's important to note that Step is probably getting a retcon (if I decide to keep him at all). -

The Breakouts just chillin'.
TOTALLY coincidental. -
I made mine using Adobe After Effects (No, I don't have Powerpoint).
Tell me what you think!
