Long animations really hurt a tanker... you can't react to anything for the ~3 seconds that the animation plays.
Well, I can agree with that.

The thing is though, Your a Tanker.Your not jumping around like a squirel on crack attacking things.(Blasters, im staring straight at you.)So your going to root your self most the time to hold a mob, or even a herd of baddies.

I will agree that most of the team members will have everything dead before you can trigger off you higher tier 8 and 9 attacks, mainly because everyone wants to play a Blaster, or a SD/Elec Scrapper now days.So of coarse /EM cant compete with that.Heck, almost nothing competes with that.Thats why many sets are what seems to be lack luster now days.
  2. So, whats some other combos that you dont see people playing past level 14 with the Controller AT?

Im currently leveling up a Earth/Sonic, but I want something else as well.Mainly because you can get bored with playing the same character after 35+ levels, and wanna have a change of pace when that happens. That way I can switch back and forth between the 2 of them and not feel the sting of over boredum.

I want to aviod the more used sets, mainly because I see them on the daily, so they dont appeal to me as much. Those would be mainly /Kin, /Rad, /EMP, ect.

It may be the server I play on, being Freedom, but I dont see a Illusion/ or Gravity/ Primary all that often.I do however hear about how these 2 are talked about on the boards, as if they are common place, and plentiful.

Iv been learning more and more that whats talked about on the boards here, is considered "Rare" on Freedom.A easly pointed out piece of proof for that is my rolling up a Dark/Dark Defender, simply because I never see one on Freedom.Apperantly, they are all over the place on other servers.

I litterally had no idea, and it wasnt all that commonly talked about on the Forums, but, apperantly a Dark Defender is common.Who knew? Not me.

So, from what iv heard so far, a Earth/Sonic is a rare combo in its self all over the place. If this isnt the case, it definatly seems to be on Freedom.I dont see people using either sets, at all.

You could clog the server with all the Fire/Kin Controllers people have.I know a player that has 3 diffrent Fire/Kins.WHY?!

I really enjoy my Dark/Dark Defender, but you wont see me taking it to level 50, just to make it again and take it to 50 two more times.

Anyhow, im kinda getting off key.

Whats another rare mix that I could possibly enjoy, and Synergy and Mids be damned on this one. They can take a flying leap!

Im one of those odd players that can make a so called Bad Mix work well.So help me out!

I did something similar with my Earth/Thermal, I went with thermal over sonic for the heals. But sonic provides mez protection and more -res debuffs. Animated stones attacks all taunt which helps keep the attacks off of you.
Dont forget the Disruption Aura that will be dropping the mob that surrounds the Golem by -30% resistance to all damage as well.

It is a little scary making a Character that cant heal, or doesnt heal with either of its sets, but im sure it wont matter with the attack plan i have for it.I should litterally be out of most, if not all danger. If im not, ill see about the medicine pool.

  5. Energy Melee is a bad Tanker Secondary? When did this happen?!

I recently saw a Ivln/EM Tanker, and he hit like a Mack Truck!(recently being roughly 2 weeks ago)

He charged up, and BLAM! Dead +2 Minion!Jumped up in the air with some hang time, comes down, and BLAP!Dead Lt.!Triggered his Hasten, then started spinning away!

From what I can tell, he capitalized on recharge for his Whirling Hands, and it went off rather often. He killed things moderatly quick. Then when it came to Bosses, well, I sat back and watched him obliterate them with his higher up ST attacks.

I want to roll a /EM tanker my self, but I have 2 projects im already working on.It is on my next build list though.

    Id say go for it!

From what iv seen, /EM isnt bad at all.You just have to learn how to use it.Unfortunatly, those who had it before the change give it a bad name, simply because they wont go back and re-learn and re-slot it.

    Make up your own mind.

    Since when?

While I am somewhat reluctantly forced to agree that a Dark/Sonic, can be viable, and dish out some fugly damage, I put my Dark/Dark through a stress test just last night.

Before I say anything, understand that this is not a embellisment at all.

I Tanked 5 mobs of Freakshow on a difficulty setting of +1/8 w/bosses, lived through the entire thing, and killed them all.No inspirations, no vet powers, and NO MERCY!

    (New account, no vet powers.)

    Thats what?60?70 Baddies I dropped?

How did I have the endurance for this?Simple, if you pay attention to your Vigilance buff.It gives you one for your Dark Servant, when he gets hit, your endurance raises, just like it would with any team mate in danger.during the entire fight, I noticed that my endurance bar would keep jumping up, and put 2 and 2 together.

So much for Vigilance being worthless huh?

As for how I controlled that many baddies? It was my Dark Blasts.
Those cones have a very nasty range, and AoE capacity, especially when theres that many things there is beautiful.Tar Patch, and Torrent where awesome at controlling the mob when they started to get to close, or unclumped.

I was freakin out the entire time, but I did it!

I chose Freakshow because they res, heal, and have alot of HP, as well as Tank Bosses that can almost 1 shot me.(If they hit me!LOL!)

So for my build, its the feeling like a GOD when I face a horde of baddies that would make Tanker crap his pants, and wipe a 8 man team!
  7. I just think i had a thought!

    YUP!I did!

I just came up with a theme for my controller here!Requires a re-roll though.
  8. Fire_Minded

    Since when?

Well, I will be honest, now that iv sat back, and read your reply to my reply, about another reply.(Now THATS redundant!)Ill have to say, neither one of our builds is incorrect.I can say that if you really do that much damage to walk around the need for the extra -toHit Dark Blasts does, then I suppose neither of our builds are redundant or akward for either one of us.

We both seem to have made equally compelling arguments in what we belive to be better.Nothing wrong with that factor of it.I guess we just have diffrent ways of playing.Im more of a soloist vs teamer.Sure, there are times I get tired of soloing, and I find my way onto a team, but its not often.

I tend to wait till level 50 before slapping IOs into my characters, mainly to see how they play out without them to see what I want to improve on them. For you, I will definatly agree that slotting for Defense is prolly a smart idea.On my build, I wont have to at all, leaving room for other interesting things to be added instead.

By the way, if you cut down the 60 seconds recharge on Dark Pit with just 3 SOs, and slap in 3 SOs for hold Duration, and use Hasten, that timer is rather low, down towards 18-20 seconds recharge, with overlapping hold duration. So I still stand firm thats its not that horrible to use, and because I dont have to worry about the defense % number aspect of IOing, I can focus on Endurance enhancing, so its not going to be to big of a issue.Global Recharge will make my powers fire off humorous fast as well.

Anyhow, I think we both have a advantage in our own rights. The end rewards might be diffrent, but worth the time.

I went to my Kin/Sonic Defender, and I conceed, you made a Decent Defender, that acts rather much like a Corruptor in terms of damage, I on the other hand made a Tank.I have easly been able to solo +0/8 w/bosses to +2/8 w/bosses with being only level 35.(Taking a break to work on my Earth/Sonic Controller.)I anticipate that once I get my Epic pool, ill be capable of +3/8 w/bosses.My overall goal is the max +4/8 w/bosses.Which will probably be when I get IOs.

So the end result will be diffrent for both of us.So, I retract saying your build is akward.I just perfer mine.

I can do the same thing with my dark/sonic. That's actually the point of my post. Just about any well build dark defender regardless of secondary can do the same. The dark secondary really doesn't add much. And with sonic, I can also pump out some very respectable damage numbers due to stacking -res.

    Think about this:

Dark Blast vs. Shriek. Dark blast does an exotic damage type and tohit debuff but shriek adds -res. Over time, shriek will edge out dark blast in terms of dps.

Gloom vs. Scream. No contest here as Scream does substantially more damage.

Moonbeam - nothing similar in the sonic set but it's a snipe and extremely bad from a dps perspective.

Dark Pit - a locational AoE that stuns only minions vs. Shriek - a single target ranged stun that stuns up to Lts. Both can be stacked with howling twilight. This is a matter of taste, but I think they are roughly comparable if you consider ease of use, end cost and especially considering shriek adds -res as well.

Tenebrous Tenacles vs. Howl -toss up IMO. TT has a great immobilize/tohit debuff and decent damage over time. Howl adds -res to the whole group hit and can add substantially to damage, especially in team settings. I also think tar patch makes TT somewhat redundant, since the slow from it is pretty much all the holding power a team needs to target AoEs.

Nightfall - A narrow cone AoE, difficult to use. Nothing comparable sonic side.

Torrent vs. Shockwave - roughly comparable powers.

Life drain - nothing comparable sonic side, but made redundant by twilight grasp.

Blackstar vs. Dreadful Wail - DW is better in almost every way.

Further, the secondary tohit debuff in dark blast becomes marginal because the primary has this pretty much covered. Fearsome stare + darkest night adds a ton of tohit debuffs. They both already stack with shadow fall, which is another power in your primary. Sonic also gives you aim and Siren's Song.

I'm not knocking dark blast as being bad. My point is that dark blast really doesn't add much to an already strong primary. Sonic blast on the other hand adds damage, more -res and a fair amount of useful/nonredundant utilities.
Well, im going to have to set you straight on alot of this.

Your very right about Dark blasts being a Exotic Damage set.Yours, is a highly resisted set.Negative Energy, especially later on in the game, is rarely resisted at all.Yours, gets resisted more and more as the game progresses.

I will not even dare claim that I can out damage Sonic Blasts, because in many situations, youll always out damage dark blasts. However, there are many situations that Dark blasts can Shred through enemy groups that you cant.At best, youll be on par with my damage towards end game with many of the enemy groups.Ritiki Included.

As for Trenebous Tenticals having no use because of Tar Patch?Your way off.TT keeps the mob on the Tar patch, no having to play with the Mob to keep them there.

Dark pit, its self, can be spammed if you give it enough recharge, and Hold Duration.Being HIGHLY useful, even without the aid of howling Twilight. It being a AoE makes it even more useful after all of that. Can ST Shriek do that?I didnt think so.

As for Dark Blast and Gloom, I can easly spam those back to back for very decent DPS when I face a boss. Not to mention I can Tank a boss using just these 2 powers becuase of the -toHit, and forgo any other powers during that boss if I so choose.Trust me when I tell you that reading the damage and using mids is way off when you acctually use this set.The numbers, and Mids program, do not in any way tell you about game resistances, or weakness of the things you fight.I do alot more damage then you'd think, and I dont trail behind by much.

As for Nightfall being a narrow difficult to use cone? Not at all.I can hit the entire mob with this power, and it does a good amount of damage each cast. The further away you trigger this power, the more its going to hit.Granted I cant "Always" hit the entire mob, but I still tend to nail 3/4 of the mob if it was a bad line up.

Moonbeam, ill have to agree with you on this one.I dont think other then to pull a mob, which I really never do, its kinda useless in most settings.

Life Drain, you said this one was redundant because of Twilight Grasp.I again, have to set you straight.First off, its a beautiful thing when im standing in the face of a Boss, spamming Dark Blast and Gloom in its face so it cant see me, but I am also adding Life Drain to the chain. It not only adds damage, it heals me in case i acctually do get hit by the boss in question, allowing me to heal while not breaking the DPS chain on that boss. You dont see this power useful, because you dont acctually "Tank" your enemies with your build.I however can get up close and personal with the mob if I so choose at any givin time during the fight, and be totally safe.

You also havnt mentioned Petrifying Gaze.Do you not use it?If you dont, your missing out big time.

Blackstar, I have no comment on this one, because I dont have it yet, but im sure its more useful then you say it is.I can already see how it can, and will be useful.

By the way, yes, I do have a Sonic Blast Defender, so I acctually know what im talking about.A Kin/Sonic to be exact.I got bored of it around level 38, and simply stopped playing it.Sonic Blasts, even with Kinetics, was lack luster. It was alot of work, to have to team with people, just so I could use Fulcrum Shifts full glory, so I could hit as hard as a standard Blaster. While every Blaster, Tanker, Kheldian, Scrapper, ect. on the team hit even harder then that.

So forgive me if I dont see the "Synergy" of your Dark/Sonic build. It seems exactly as someone else said, akward to use.

On a side note, I cant really see how a mainly ST power set like yours, as well as the KB of some of your AoE power, can do extreemly well, unless it was on a team setting. One of the bigger questions I have for you, is how did you deal with your Endurance problems using Darkest Night and Shadow Fall constantly?I use them for Tanking the Alpha of a mob, hit them with a couple of my AoE attacks, then turn them off because they really suck up the Endurance.I tend to control entire mobs for the duration, without the aid of those powers after the Alpha of the mob, because of my Dark Blasts ability to take away there ability to hit me with no defensive toggles on.

If you say anything along the lines of IOs, or getting your Epic Pool, im going sit back and grin really big, because I have neither of those.

    So please, Enlighten us.

You will probably discover, as I did, that Sonic Resonance may actually be a better controller powerset than when used by a Defender.
But I eventually went with a more traditional secondary (Rad), out of familiarity and solo-speed.

Good Luck, its always nice to see less played combinations in the game.
Well, from what iv been reading on all the Controller Primary sets, I can see why it did poorly with Fire Control.Fire is a more damaging set, probably the most damaging in the game for Controllers.Earth Control is a bit diffrent. It adds ALOT of midigation, and a very heavly armored pet, that will gladdly tank for you.The buffs applied to this already tough booger, will make him even more so capable of a Tanking Pet.

I cant really see my self using Sonic/ as a primary for a Defender.Mainly because why would I wanna make someone else a Damage Resistance dropping/buffed God, while I sit back and recive no credit?I dont think so.

Its not the fact that im being arrogant about playing a Controller, or even a Defender. Its the fact that I dont enjoy people telling the "Healzor" how great of a job they are doing because they are just there spamming Healing Aura, and possibly another ST heal, while im sitting there buffing everyone, and debuffing the mob so the team can survive.

So my thing with building Controllers, and Defenders, is that I make them self-reliant, because I simply dont wanna have to hear another player down my power sets.I persoanly make sure that every build I make can Solo a +1/8 w/bosses on there own, or I wont play it, and I see a Earth/Sonic doing just that.

Am I being a bit Selfish with my builds when it comes to other players and being on a team? You bet!

The only way people notice what a build can do, is when you dont let it 100% benifit them, like many players want you to do.Sure, ill still buff people, and try to keep the team attacking the mob withing my Auras of protection, but dont exspect me to go running after that Lone Ranger that decides to attack another mob.Ill let that freak die, since he will most likly blame it on someone anyhow, it will most likly be me, cause im a Sonic and not a H34lz0r!

Now that im done with that Tangent, I belive extra Midigation from -Dmg Res, -Def%, -toHit, KD,-recharge and Ect., added to Sonics abilities will definatly be a force to reckon with on this Controller.Alot of which, Fire Control doesnt have.

But then again, I tend to look at things from a min/max perspective.
Acctually, using a Dark/Dark is anything but redundant, or akward.

I can hold the Agro of a 8 man mob, with Bosses, better then many Tankers can, and for a long enough time, that I can drop a 8 man mob, and keep them in total control of my powers while doing it.

The moment I get to pick my Epic pool for my Defender, im going for the Electric Pool, adding Thunder Strike to my attack run will definatly drop mobs faster then I can now, and since Dark Blasts give me more then enough control, I can, and already herd mobs, clump them up, Tank them, and soon, Thunder Strike them!

Not to mention, Electricity will go well with my Water Magic Theme.Water + Electricity = GOOD THEME!

Since iv never had the pleasure of getting a Epic Pool on a Defender, does the one im going for have Ball of Lightning or Short Circuit?Only thing I know it has is Thunder Strike.
  13. Iv been noticing that everyone perfers Kin/, Rad/, EMP/, and the rest go down hill from there, to the least to never used pile.

I have however, been noticing some fun looking combonations in the power sets.maybe its just me being a fun seeker, but iv come upto a new Controller build, (for me anyhow) that I think would be pretty durn fun!

I am going to be starting my Stone/Sonic Controller tonight.

    I know what your thinking.

    "It wont Synergize very well."

Well, thats perfectly fine with me!

Im acctually seeing a diffrent kind of game play using this combonation, and it seems kinda cool to think about how it can be used.

Open up on a 8 man mob using Earth Quake to take the Alpha, then hit them with a hold, jump in and start a attack run of Stone Cages, ect. While your doing this, dont forget to have your pet rock beating away at things while he is lowering everything in his area by -30% resistance due to Dissruption Field! Not to mention that Stone/ on a Controller -20% defense with just the cages alone, so its not likly that your AoEs are going to miss after the first strike!

I just see this as a extreemly fun, extreemly brutal, and fantastically chuckle worthy!

    What do you guys think?
  14. Fire_Minded

    Since when?

Now I definatly want to move server!

I grabbed up a couple players to give them a run on my Dark Defender, and one of them speaks up and says mid mission, "Your theme is really cool, I think im going to steal it."

Ok, thats where I draw the line.Period.Copy my build if you want, but DO NOT steal my Theme!

I made my Dark Defender have a Atlantean look, like a fish man, or as close as one can get to that look with the costume options, gave him a shimmering glow, colored his powers to look like he is using water blasts, tenticals comming up from portals of water, and Tar patch looks kinda like a whirl pool. The heal looks like im sucking water and life from my enemy, and Dark Servant looks like a very convincing Water Elemental.I did a very nice job to make it look like I was using water magic, and not dark blasts, and someone openly tells me they will copy it?!

    Thats just not nice!

I dont even wanna hear how I should be flattered!

    Since when?

Well, every once in a while, your going to run into what i just ran into tonight, and it very much deals with Stage 1 players.

Ok, picture this, I do solo farms on my Defender.Every now and again, I invite a couple players to the team, for some quick exp for them to hop up a bit in experiance, instead of standing around looking for a team.(Defender is currently level 35.)

By no means do I PL anyone, but I do give them a small leg up if they are lower level and want exp.Anyhow, I loaded up a self made farm, of Ghosts, and invited 2 Controllers.Being the guy I am, I suggjested that if they wanted to help me fight, they needed to allow me to tank.

One controller immediatly says "Ok.", and the other, decided to come off and tell me "Defenders are healers, you cant tank.Your support.".

At this point, im already smirking due to that statement.I replied with, "Then your in for a surprise.", and summoned my Dark Servant for the comming attack on the first +1/8 (with bosses) Mob of Freakshow on this run.The moment I start the attack run, the Controller goes into Fly mode, and jets upward.Possibly beliving that I was full of it, and wanting to see me dead, he saw just the opposite.

After clearing out the mob, he lands.I say "Im just a healer that cant Tank, right? ", and he stayed silent. At this point, im thinking maybe, just maybe, he wanted to either see me do it again before he belived his own eyes, or he didnt feel like incriminating him self by saying anything further, either way, I let it drop.

The next mob, he decides to help, which is fine with me.Him being in his mid-20s in levels, and being a Plant/Storm looked like it was going to be helpful. However, he wasnt helpful. He didnt take 3 of Storms most Vitally valuable powers. No Steaming Mist, no Snow Storm, and no Freezing Rain.He did take just about every Plant power from Tier 1 down to his level allowance though. So I figured that will help either way, since its not likly we will get hit due to my -toHit debuffs.

Around the 3rd mob, he gets ballzy, and decides to start jumping into the next mob, without me or the other controller.Which didnt matter at this point, the 2nd controller lost connection, and by the middle of the 3rd mob left me and this nay saying Controller by our selves. Not really bothered by this, I continued the run.

For the next 4 mobs, I had to race behind the Controller that decided he was the Tank, and Aoe Debuff the mobs so the Alpha wouldnt kill him.I was slightly annoyed by this, but did my best to just let it go..... That is, till he said "Controllers can tank, just keep healing me and this will stay easy."

You KNOW what I did next, and it wasnt very polite.

I let him jump into the next mob, and allowed him to take the Alpha. After allowing him to face plant in a matter of seconds, I attacked the mob, and told him "Just a minute, ill help you up.".After clearing half the mob, he felt it was safe enough to use a Wakie.I figured by now he was noticing atleast a pattern, or that he might be wrong about my role as a Defender of being only heals and buffs, but that wasnt the case.

Now not only did I have a large 8 man mob half down, he drags 2 more mobs onto me.Possibly for revenge, or to be a jerk, I cant tell which. If it was for Revenge cause he was smart enough to figure out I let him die, then ok, I have no problem with that, but I wasnt about to let it slide.

I know better then to take on a triple mob on my Defender, ill drop either eventually, or all at once, depending on how long my luck and stamina hold out.So, I launched Dark Pit, and Trenebous Tenticals at the mob one more time, and ran like hell!

They chased after me and where flinging saw blades at me like I owed them child support!

Anyhow, I got away, and survived. He left team and sent me a tell telling me I suck.I just grunted to my self, and put him on Ignore.

I do belive im doing better at ignoring other people, especially when it comes to ignorance, but I still need some practice I guess.I think he caught me at a bad moment with his behavior was all.

Anyhow, I guess maybe I should buy a server Transfer.Who knows...
  17. Fire_Minded

    Since when?

Iv been starting to hear on the Boards here and there, about how a Dark/Dark Defender is common place, and arguably the most, if not highly powerful Defender there is in the game.

I made a Dark Defender because I never saw one past level 14, ever.Everyone I talked to told me that it is a weak combonation to play on a Defender, and I kinda thumbed through the boards, not finding anything suggjesting that anyone worries about making or playing one.

I run into people in the game who say things like "Whoa!I never saw a Dark Defender before!", and "Wow!How can you take out a mob like that?", or "I have over 50 characters, I was thinking of making a Defender like yours one of these days...".People literally stop to look at me, some ask questions.Others comment on how cool my Dark Servant looks.

Im also on Freedom, one of the more populated servers as well.So my questions here, are simple ones.

If a Dark Defender is the best of the best in a few fields that many other Defender builds lack, why is it iv never heard about it till now?Matter of fact, why dont I see Dark Defenders other then my self running around?

I mean, if there are as many self-proclaimed Min/Maxers out there as iv heard, and seen, why do I seem to be the only Dark people see now days?

Is there something that turns people off of these sets that I havnt heard about?I see mainly Kins, Empaths, ect, and none of them seem to be able to handle what I can handle.I also easly keep teams alive, and make missions simple for them because of my massive -toHit Debuffs, and high burst healing.Whats the gimmick im missing here?

I read one thing, and the reality is something else. Please help me out, I simply dont understand.

The min/maxer challenge is in breaking the system by finding the weak point. Often this is determined mathematically by number crunching. I'm assuming that you did not data-mine the numbers to determine this yourself, so you really didn't even learn to "mini/max" the system. If this is the case, someone else mini/maxed and you just are using the resulting information to take the easy way through the game.

You might only enjoy doing what you call playing by doing what you are calling min/max-ing. That's okay if that is the case, but the game and it's genre doesn't really make much of a difference. To put what I'm trying to say in perspective, I also do not think that players that are farming or power-leveling are playing the game. Also, when I'm working the market, I'm not playing the game.

To play a game involves the flavor - aka the genre. That is to say enjoying what you are doing because it is in that genre and is part of the spirit of the game.

This might seem harsh and confusing, but having a history playing RPG's (not to be confused with MMORPGs), which at this point seem to be called pen-and-paper or desktop RPGs, I have done quite a large amount of mini-maxing. I never went to a website to learn the tricks of how to find the best advantages in a game. I broke the games myself.

So the reason to give up on your statistically best set of powers and try another is to try to enjoy playing the actual game.

I can guarantee there are a whole lot of sets that are not the most mini-maxed, but I have great fun playing them. Yeah, even some that really numerically suck as regards to their calculated yield.
I agree, 100% on this speech, but theres only one problem.

Do you really think the OP cares?

(Its kinda hard to exsplain, but I shall try.)

Well, the reason why the Vanguard Theme, that im sure has been done before, holds some interest to me.

Specifically because its a group, not just power sets. The group does have many soldiers that are like one another, because they have the same training, and roughly the same equipment, and are effectivly a Army comprised of mainly regular Humans.

In the same way, Arachnos is a Faction just like they are, however you can make a acctual Arachnos Soldier as a Epic on the red side, and they are nothing more then Human Soldiers from a diffrent army.

I guess what im attempting to do is make a Collection of Toy Soldiers that I can pick at my leasure to play with. You cant choose the Vanguard like you can the Arachnos, so im going to be making my own Soldiers that are Themed like they are.(atleast 2 or 3 if I can make power concepts match close enough)

When it comes to the Arachnos Soldiers, im going to have some work on my hands.I want to do a Crab, Huntsman, Blood Widow, Soldier, ....you Get the Idea.(i want one of each)

I personally have always found in comic books, that my favorite kinds of heroes and villians, are human. No powers, no mutation, so X-Ray vision, or super strength, just a well trained Human.

Not to say that I find super powers dull, I acctually like them, but I perfer a Human vs a God.They struggle more, fight harder, and train harder then any super powered being out there, because they must to obtain the same goals.

On a side note, if they allowed you to get Longbow costume parts in the same way you can for the Vanguard, id be making a few Themed Characters from there group as well.As it stands, I may be able to do that anyway, because if I take a closer look at a Spec Ops from LB, that one may be doable due to the costume from what I can see, is mainly comprised of Stealth pieces, and AR/Dev would very easly sit as the sets for that character.

Anyhow, I hope in some way this answered that question. If it didnt, then I guess just saying "Cause I want it.", will have to do.
  20. I run a Dark/Dark Defender, currently level 35, and im using SOs.

I solo at a difficulty of +0/8 to +2/8 depending on what im fighting, and yes, these difficulty settings are with bosses included.

When I get my Epic Pool, ill most likly jump the difficulty upto +3/8 w/bosses.Then after I ding 50, ill IO up and max out the difficulty setting to +4/8 w/bosses.
  21. I run on a Dark/Dark Defender, and im only lvl 34 right now.I use SOs, and can tank, and solo +2/8 missions at the moment, some missions I have to go down to +1/8 or +0/8, but thats not to big of a blow to my Defender Pride.

Some missions take alot longer to solo due to mob HPs at +2, like the Freakshow, but to be able to TANK at that difficulty on a Defender makes me glad I chose the power sets that I did.

I tar patch right in front of my self, hit a boss with Darkest Night, and of coarse I have Shadow Fall running and my Dark Servant right behind me, ready to take the alpha. As soon as I drag the entire mob to my Tar Patch, I use Fearsome Stare, a Fear AoE that -ToHit of the mob, then Trenebous tenticals, which locks them down, and I begin my attack run from there. Not only when I trigger my heal do I gain massive HP to assist me in my tanking, but my Dark Servant is a virtual Heal Bot with the same massive heal!

All in all, im rather surprised at my pure Dark Defender at this point, and I would have to say that if at lvl 34 a player such as my self can Tank and Solo at +0/8 to +2/8 at level 34 on this Defender, what will later levels and IOs bring?

Im sure there are other Defender builds that can perform admirably to this effect, and im not going to down play any other suggjessted builds, but I just wanted to toss out there my experiance, and ability to answer this question presented by the OP.

    My Defender is a MONSTER!
  22. You guys are waaaaay off!

I have over 300 pirated songs from the internet that arnt on any itunes website, ect.So i cant suggjest any other songs.
  23. Iv recently come back to this game, and find that the majority of power sets arnt being used by the population of the game, due to the more Min/Max, or perfered Cookie sets that the majority of players use.

Before I continue, I would like to point out, that I am not insulting anyone for there choices in there game play, nore am I dictating what someone else will, or should find fun. This is a personal observation, as well as a subject to renew my enjoyment of the game on a personal level.

Iv been comming up with some new Character concepts, and have been attaching them to power sets that are vastly unused, or barly ever touched due to bad reputation.

I see alot of people on Fire/Kin Controllers, as well as Elec/SD Scrappers, DM/SD Brutes, EMP/ only Defenders, and the list does go on, but its rather short.

These are builds im avioding, not because I dont like the sets, but mainly because everyone and there dog uses them.I just dont find it personally fun when there are 30 Scrappers in a zone, all with the same build and power sets, when there are like 35 Scrappers in the zone total. It just doesnt seem fun to me to not stand out from another player, by bringing diffrent power sets to the table.

So far, my enjoyment has come from builds like my Dark/Dark Defender, that has not only gained compliments from some, who are simply marveling at the fact that someone leveled a pure dark defender past level 14.Then there are those that scoff at it, which im learning to ignore, but im passed up on teams alot, and Iv solo'd the last 29 levels.Theres alot of spoken, and unspoken biast over what someones power sets are, especially on a Defender. If your not a Kin/, EMP/, or Rad/ primary, they seem to over look you in favor of the already mentioned sets, and may end up taking you, simply because your a last resort.(Kinda feels like the last person to be picked for a middle school basketball team during gym, and your picked last, after the fat kid.)

Im not really complaining, its acctually making me happy now, and im taking it as a compliment.I can solo +3/6 Missions on my Dark/Dark Defender, mainly because nothing can hit me, and if I do get hurt my massive heal that gives half my HP back is on a 4 second timmer, and the fact that im being smart about the build allows me to drop 2 Tar Patches for double the Resistance/Def% DeBuff, making mobs way easier to melt with my 2 AoEs.(Recharge SOs are nice when slotted properly, and hasten, I wonder how nasty ill be with Global Recharge!)

Sure, its no Fire/Kin Controller, but does it have to be?Of coarse not.

Iv also noted with my Defender, that the numbers for the damage on its attacks, are a bit deciving.Negative energy is among the most unresisted damage types in the game, especially end game with the Carnies and Aliens. So it evens out in the long run.

As the subject does pretain to theme, its starting to become the main forcus of me playing the game, and sends me to pick some odd choices for power sets.

My next project is a Vangaurd Themed Scrapper, that will be using Claws and Invln for the themed choices, and will be a Natural Scrapper. It will be taken to the RWZ as soon as it can to gain access to the Vanguard Laser Claws, as well as the Vanguard Armor Pieces for his costume to make him be a Civilian who joined the Vanguard, due to his family being killed in a invasion, and wants revenge.I think it would be pretty cool to have my own Vanguard Soldier!

The Vanguard Armor is supposed to be made of Impervium Alloy, so I can easly pass off Invln with that concept.Ill be coloring the suit and the laser claws to match the Vanguard, for Authenticity.

I find the Arachnos, and the Vanguard to be some of the more interesting Group Concepts of most any comic books iv ever read from Marvel or DC.

I have a few more concepts in mind, but, I wanna hear if anyone else has any ideas to make themed characters, and if so, what kind?
  24. Ok, the real issue is that people belive that Defenders should be able to carry a 8 man team on there back. This is not the reality of Defender class at all.

Iv seen a Defender get booted off of a team, for not keeping someone alive, or because of a team wipe.Since he was the only Defender on a +4/8 mission team, id say they where a bit hard on him, and had to high of exspectations that he was supposed to miraculously just save the team from being destroyed. That, and the fact the 2 Blasters and 1 Scrapper decided to Tank the mission, made it even harder on the Defender.

This poor guy was even yelled at by the leader and others on the team for firing off a couple AoE attacks inbetween heal cycles.(EMP/Elec build)

I personally thought the Defender played his role very well.It was the fact that the mission was to hard for just 1 Defender to handle a entire team, especially when that team demands way more then a Defender can give.

As for soloing, I dont have any issues soloing on a Defender, and to be totally honest, I feel that Defenders are the most balanced ATs in the entire game. They arent Tilted in 1 direction or another. They do everything well, not exceedingly well or excellent, but good enough, and as i play my Dark/Dark Defender, I find it more fun then other sets. That and the fact that iv solo'd for the last 4 days, and have hit lvl 29 just last night, makes me belive that most people arnt the Defender Type.(playing only a few hours a day, not all day like the youngsters.)

My favorite AT in the game is a Defender, and most of my toons are, Defenders.
  25. Most Fun:

    Trenebous Tenticals - Hey!Stop that!DONT TOUCH ME THERE~!

Posionous Trap - Nothings more fun then seeing a full mob of baddies tossing there cookies because of this device!

Flame Thrower - Nothings more intimidating, and fun to watch then a flamming stream of ignited fuel!

Dark Servant - A big Blob of Dark Mass, with glowing eyes, that plays with your enemies.Need I say more?

Full Auto - One of the most in your face, Stylish, calm, cool, and collective, laid back, YOUR DEAD, ranged attacks in the game.Stylin Baby!

Proton Volley - Ok, this is the only Snipe in the game that hits multipul times. It just looks awesome!Pew pew pew pew pew!

All of the Warshade Attacks - Who doesnt love the PURPLE!?
