...once the Devs have given us their blessings to move forward with this thread.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That I can almost guarantee won't happen First they don't post a lot, they're on vacation, and it's purely against the EULA Doesn't really stop threads from being posted, though. We all know how fun it is to *look* but not touch these things. Sadly, lawyers don't tend to think so.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yep, making characters that are basically copies of existing characters is a bad thing.
Making homage characters, however, is different. You can make a character thats a homage to another as long as its not copying everything from that original character.

Take for example my DB/DA Scrapper. His first costume is a bit of a homage to Deadpool.
I made enough changes to the way he looks that hes not a clone, but you can kind of still see that I got the inspiration from Deadpool(at least I'm hoping you can).
  2. Meeting stones were replaced by the LFG tool.
The stones are now used to teleport people to the stone(usually near the instance portal).
Need 2 people to do the summoning. One person selects a teammate, clicks the stone, the second person clicks the portal that spawns and a "Your teammates are trying to port you, you have 2 min to respond. [Accept] [Not now]" window appears on the teammate being ported.

While its annoying that you have to have two people to summon, the person being summoned doesn't have to be anywhere near the zone the instance is in.
So, you could basically summon from like the Shadow Shard to Atlas Park.
However, like the LFG tool, the stones are also limited by level. You can't summon someone thats too high or low of a level for the instance.

Its taken about... well, I can't remember when the tool was introduced, but people are just barely getting the hang of it. Its not even that hard to understand, its just not straight forward.

You end up missing travel powers and Recall Friend when all of you are too low for mounts, but the instance is in the middle of freaking nowhere.

Didn't EQ2's exemplar come after the game came out? It is nice that other MMO's are copying some stuff from CoH finally (meant that in a nice way)

    [/ QUOTE ]

As I recall I seem to recall that WoW 'borrowed' the Team Seek feature several months after CoX was released. I've not played the game but from what I was told there are these crystal things all over the WoW world where you can search for people looking for a team and then teleport to their location or something.

    [/ QUOTE ]

WoW's LFG tool is a bit more cumbersome and restricting than CoX's.
Where in CoH you can add limits or have none at all, WoW's LFG tool has level limits built into it.
So anyone above the level to do something, can't put themselves as looking for a group to do that thing.
And you can't just put yourself up as "Looking for instance groups" like you can here. Its very specific, and as I said, limiting.

Also, the /sea(or /who in WoW) and LFG tool are seperate.

EQ2's "exemplar/Sk" system did come out a while after release. It wasn't there when I played at release and for a couple months.

my point is that at the time, I had no idea how common the problems with Everquest were in other games, I had no idea that almost every game on the market, including WoW, was busily and enthusiastically copying the worst features of Everquest. Nor did I realize, until this week, that they still are.

    [/ QUOTE ]

With WoW copying EQ, its mostly through the oldest and unmodified quests that you'll see a lot of similarities. Since a lot of the original WoW Devs came from EQ.(Whether that means players or EQ devs, was never made clear to me)
So, its not surprising that they'd borrow a lot from that game.

However, as time passed, Blizz started getting better with their quests.
Go spend some time in the newest zones for the newer races of that game. Those quests were actually interesting for the most part.
And there were no "bring me a body part the majority of the beasts in this zone don't seem to have" quests.
They did still have the "bring me 10 flanks" quests, but the drop rate for the items were about 100%, so you don't spend 2 [censored] hours killing liver-less boars.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
I gave a 2 week trial of WOW and remember one quest I was given to find something that I had to fight and I couldn't find it no matter how long I searched. Wasn't really all that impressed with WOW, but really love COX!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Generally that game will tell you where everything is in the quest text.
You can't just read the "summary" and expect to know everything.

CoX's method of just telling you what to do in an easy to see/find manner is something a lot of quest/mission designers in other games can't seem to grasp.
Though, there are a few missions that sound like you only need to do one thing (like kill X boss) when theres also a glowie you have to look for.
  8. This and this are how I ended up using enforcer.
I still haven't figured out what to make my jester character.
I've had an idea for this character for the longest time, but still can't figure out what AT to make him.
I tried using DB, but didn't like how the animations looked, so I'm still figuring it out.

I give 3rd place to Cineplex, too.

I tend to make dark characters.....if I want white for something I'll usually use a light grey rather than white becaues it's just too bright for me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I generally share your point of view on this.

Though, as a joke I made my Inv tank's costume all white. His auras alone were blinding, so I figured I'd go full tilt and make it so your eyes bleed when you looked at him.
I ended up liking his costume, though.

I really like your "cyber samurai" costume(Galvan Bane), makes me jealous that I didn't think of that.
  11. I'm trying to come up with a theme song for my newest Scrapper, and this keeps popping into my head, so I'm going to go with that.(And yes, "Tank!" is the name of the song.)

Oh, this song sounds cool, too.

I think both match the pace of a DB Scrapper.

I believe that you all are not just fans but customers. Because of that, I SHOULD listen to you. I SHOULD communicate with you. That's part of what you're paying for, after all.

It's easy to get away from doing chats, interviews, reading the boards and become absorbed with game design only. But I personally try to fight that temptation and be as open as possible.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Gosh, States, if only ALL MMO Lead Designers thought like that, i would not have left FFXI, EQ2, and WoW. The Devs being players and offering news through the boards and stuff is a great feature that i think EVERY mmo would benefit from

    States rocks.

From the moment he made his "doom song" post, that awesomeness was solidified.
  15. Dude, Jester... that costume came out damned good.

Meh, I'll put up a few.

Obsidian Hunter (Ok, this dude is deleted now 'cause AR blows, but I liked that costume, in fact, I might just make that the lvl 20 costume for the brute that replaced him.)

We have a great many fledgling (and not so fledgling) artists here, some of which I'm sure would love a wider audience than the art forums. Why not toss in an offer to publish people's actual comics as downloadable PDFs through the main website as part of an 'official' anthology? As a derivative work of COH, it should be nicely covered by the EULA's 'non-exclusive rights' clause. That way you could at least claim there'd still be a COH comic.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I will make an entire comic devoted to Statesman on the can, or "Claiming the Throne of Zeus" as he calls it.
