Cheap and seemed like a good deal for the performance/price ratio for what I need. Thanks
Good choice You should be quite happy with it I imagine.
  3. Our styles and opinions just differ is all. Preface all of my sentences with "In my opinion"

By not taking and heavily slotting World of Pain you are doing your team a disservice, provoke or no.

You will still spend the majority if your time healing your henchman, yourself, and the rest of the team with or without provoke, that is the main focus of your secondary.

Part of the problem with "Tankerminding" on a team is that you can not control your pets, as you would lose Bodyguard, and often can cause more harm than good when left to their own devices in a densely spawned map.

And yes, definitely get Resurrect along with Share Pain and Enforced Morale. I use the last two heavily when in teams and they love me for it!

I am unsure of the weight I would give to being able to pull a "Hero" off a tank in the LRSF since that hero will squish you in two or maybe 3 hits, in all likelihood one if CoX didn't have the one-shot clause :P and healing nictus hits like a pansy :>

Personally, if an MM pulled aggro from me while I was tanking by using Provoke, I would ask him/her to please not do that again, and if it continued I would kick him/her from the team. It is very disruptive to have to fight for aggro when it is not necessary, which is 95% of the time.

So, in summation, and again this is just my opinion, Provoke has limited use while in a team environment and should not be taken over World of Pain. If you fell you need to, and can take both without hurting your build elsewhere, then I see no issue with it.
  4. ...of those two, the Radeon is the far better card.

If you want to stick with nVidia, and I wouldn't blame you, in your price range I would suggest taking a look at either http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130485 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121320

The first one being the better of most previously mentioned cards with exception of the 4670 which it would still edge out, but not by much, and still within your price range after rebate. I do love Newegg!

Since it is nvidia you won't have to deal with all the tweaking and option adjustments to get CoX to run smooth and beautiful.
  5. In that price range, i would suggest a Radeon HD 4670. If you can push it to $100 then the Radeon HD 4850 512 MB would be a nice option.

I know Radeon cards are not the prefered card for CoX, but for the price range you listed, those were the picks from one of the most respected hardware review sites on their "Best Graphics Cards for the Money August '09" and I have a link for you if you wish to read the entire article.

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...card,2387.html
  6. So are you doing what I am doing? Clicking on all those emails and the links in them and actually going to each thread out of fear of "There may also be other replies, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again." notice? :P
  7. Yes, it is happening to me too. It is sending me emails that it has already sent days or even weeks ago. Must be a glitch in the notification server.
  8. Yep, I have had the same issues. I also chose to pay using Paypal and have had the exact same issue when I tried to buy 5 more slots.

I agree, the system is whacked and could really use a tweak or two.

Even with maxing out the +Resistance in Wold of Pain, Genin are going to get one-shot way before healing them will help, especially when you turn the difficulty meter up. This became much less of an issue when I took (and well slotted) Provoke and started tankerminding. I view Provoke as one of the key, game changing powers I took while leveling up. If I could hold aggro, the Genin would live and I could spend more time buffing the Ninjas (Smoke Flash, Enforced Morale, Painbringer) than healing (and resummoning) them.

I do not view Enforced Morale as optional. Not that you're going to keep the buff up full time on 6 henchmen, but there are times you're to want to be very proactive with it (Rikti and Malta to name just a couple).

So there are some tough choices to make. I don't think skipping Stamina is an option. Despite being a Leadership junkie, I chose to not take those powers.

Depending on your intentions at 50, you may want to rethink your late game powers. Although I leveled up my Ninja/Pain solo, my lvl 50 activities are mostly high level SFs (LRSF, ITF and LGTF) so I think the rez is actually useful (as is Share Pain), moreso than Night Fall.
Your advice is great for the MM that intends to solo. The build I posted was the one I used to level to 50 with and was from a Team Oriented style. I only solo'd only on rare occasion, I was in teams all the time. Everyone wants a /pain along And having a slotted out World of Pain really helps, also it's not just resist, its also +DMG and +toHit so, bonus!
  10. Here is one i have leveld with and it has worked out great. Awesome team support as well as being able to keep pets healed through most encounters. Although you will lose the Genin fairly often, but they are super squishy anyway :P

  11. Well damn, I'm sorry it didn't fix the problem. At least it made it a little better?

By defaulting it to off, then the majority of the population would have to re-enable it to see it so that would not really make sense. However, I don't see any issue with adding an option to turn the animations off.

I am unsure of what advice to give now, perhaps checking Billz extensive thread on ATI tweaks to see if anyone there has had similar situation as yours.

    Sorry Scootertwo.

I am not holding my breath, considering that I had this problem when i14 was new and the drivers were up to date and sp2 wasn't even out yet.
that could mean that maybe there is a fix for it in SP2, since it wasn't out yet, maybe it's in there now!

  13. Nearly 5 years with only a single build, then a miracle happens and we get dual builds! Now people are complaining that 15 mins is too long, and having to goto a trainer is too inconvenient?

I for one am just thrilled to have two builds I can choose from on the same toon. The number of times I had wanted to switch between the builds faster than the 15 min delay was maybe..3 or 4 out of the hundreds of times I have changed.

A 15 min wait is a tiny price to pay for not having to level 2 AT's with same powersets but with different builds for use in different team makeups.

This is the only place I experience any lag. I don't even lag out during Rikti invasions in Atlas Park on virtue.

Rule number one of finding a solution to a problem.

If you do something and it fixes the issue, undo what you did to see if issue returns. if it does that is obviously the solution.

The simplest answer is probably the right one.
The reason we are saying that is because none of us are experiencing this issue. Hence, it is not the animations themselves that is causing the problem.

More likely, the problem is something on your system that is either interfering with, or just not able to handle the animations correctly and this may be what is causing you this lag. This would be why you were asked to put up the HijackThis and CoH Helper logs.

Several suggestions have been made, including the very important one of updating to SP2 as well as updating the out of date drivers (in yellow). If you are still having issues after doing these things, it may be a hardware problem that would need a bit more investigating to find.
  15. ZombieMan beat me to it. There are several things that raise red flags in your HijakThis file.

While I may not go to the extreme he has suggested, at least not at first, I would at the very least clean up your registry and get rid of those nasty spyware/adware.

Malwarebytes would work wonders for you, and it is totally free.

Operating System: Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.090302-1506)
This is most likely contributing to, if not the direct cause of your problems. I would highly suggest you update to SP2 as well as updating your video drivers.

The animations are not causing any undue lag on myself, or any of a dozen SG mates that I have asked to test for me. They are all on varying quality of computers from 6+ year old granny boxes to high end gaming rigs.

...an antivirus like AVG free. its the best free one out.
Except, it's actually not. It does seem to stay in the top 5 however. Currently the ones that are consistently fighting for first place are Avira and Avast.

AVG is a fair program and is definitely better than nothing.

If its not stopping 99.9-100% let alone just 99.0% considering that there are 30-100 new viruses every day, its not doing a good enough job and more significant protections are needed including not running as admin, having control over scripting, changing email and browsing habits, staying patched, etc etc etc, virus writers have always had the upper hand in this battle, now they are really making use of it, sitting back and pretending that your AV will protect you will get you rooted.
The VB100 logo signifies that It detects all In the Wild viruses during both on-demand and on-access scanning, and it generates no false positives when scanning a set of clean files. So, in my opinion, using a product with this logo is the best idea.

I totally agree with you that the efficacy of these products is much lower than we would all want. I just feel that having 95% chance is much better than 0%. I follow just about the same security procedures you have listed in the past, and yes I have been pretty much virus free for over a decade. But, there have been the lucky few that have gotten through and my AV has caught it before it caused any irreparable damage.

The problem I believe may not necessarily be with the lack of ability of the AV programs, but may be the fact that the vast chunk of the computer using population doesn't have ANY av solution running, or are still using the 90 day demo that came with their computers long after the 90 days have expired and they still think they are protected.

Obviously the above category does not include anyone from these forums, but I was shocked to find out just how many computers there are without any form of protection on them. I sure hope MS gets the go ahead to put their Microsoft Security Essentials bundled with new pc's, but i feel they won't be able to thanks to Symantec and McAfee paying vendors to pu their rubbish bundled on computers instead.

Ah, so asking someone for some evidence to back up a statement is calling them a liar?

I do back up my opinions with factual data and links to respected sites backing up my claims. If this means "throwing my internet weight around" then so be it.

I never once "harangued" the OP, and in fact contributed quite a bit of information regarding various AV services and their reliability.

As for your comment on me letting this be an thread on opinions, err...my very first post backed that up saying everything in this thread was opinion, which obviously includes me but thanks.

  21. I prefer to stick with proven top tier products, and not just settle for whatever "fills my line item". There is a considerable difference between quality in AV products in both wild detection, and known detections.

If you use IE in ANY form you are at greater risk than if you used Firefox, Chrome or even Opera and Safari.

AV's, good AV's, are far from useless against zero day virii/trojans, etc. Heuristic analysis can make a good bit of difference, and is quite capable of catching previously unknown viruses. No, it's not perfect, and does give false positives but the engines are improving along with the newer viruses and detection is only getting better and more accurate.

Viruses, trojans, phishing and social engineering don't belong in the same category. The last 2 rely on human stupidity rather than exploiting any vulnerabilities in any software.

There is no program that will protect you from Social Engineering, and it only takes common sense to be protected from phishing.

Interesting, since nearly, if not all, "free" products state specifically that they are not to be used in a commercial environment.

Not sure why people are even still using AVG when it is clearly not the best product. It is consistanly behind Avira and Avast in testing, how it manages to even stay in the top 3 confuses me. Must be the power of advertising, because it sure isn't on performance.

I use Avira AntiVir Personal Free edition (and you can easily disable the popup that some people whine about) and love it. It is very fast scanning and light on resources.
