  1. Blaster: @Jacob McKail
    Controller: @Prime
    Defender:
    Scrapper: @Celtic Hood
    Tanker:
    Peacebringer: Reporter
    Warshade:

Three slots still to fill. The only preference expressed so far is Thursday so that's looking to be the day.
  2. Just a thought on some possible new power pools, including alternative routes for travel powers (albeit essentially identical to those that already exist):

    Fire:
Obviously fire tends to be associated with damage in this game, so a +dmg toggle (self-only assault equivalent) or clicky (like buildup but without the +ToHit) alongside a simple melee attack (with DoT to push its damage a little ahead of the competition) for the first tier powers seems a simple way to go. For the travel power, turning into a flying ball of fire. Finally, just to make the set a little unique, a ranged attack for the final tier power - fire blast but with half the range and twice the recharge perhaps?

    6 Melee attack with DoT
    6 +dmg toggle or clicky
    14 Fly
    20 Ranged attack

    Electric:
Electric has the whole endurance modifying thing going for it, alongside a nifty animation for teleporting courtesy of the brute melee set. Taking into account the teleport second tier power, perhaps having a hover equivalent in the first tier, accompanied by a mild electrical aura (for aesthetics only) would be useful. For the second tier 1 power, as a vague hasten alternative, a ranged 'attack' that drains an enemy's endurance (~10 endurance?) and gives you a small recharge boost (~15%?) and speed boost (which would be nice for making hover faster). With a 60 recharge, 30 second duration and non-self-stacking you could easily keep it permanent without it getting too out of whack if added to regular hasten. For the final tier power, a melee endurance siphon, draining a reasonable amount from an enemy (~25?) and transferring that to you, at a non-trivial base cost to endurance (~10-15?) to make accuracy important. With a 60 second recharge it should, with appropriate slotting, make a useful alternative or supplement to stamina.

    6 Hover
    6 Ranged siphon speed
    14 Teleport
    20 Melee siphon endurance

    Earth:
I see earth being more of a defensive pool, with a toggle minor smash/lethal resistance with immobilise protection (making it something of a combat jumping alternative) and an air superiority equivalent attack for tier 1, superspeed (with an animation of rock/earth/debris rolling along the ground - I think this could look good even while jumping, with the debris arcing through the air) for travel and an acrobatics equivalent hold/knockback protection for tier 3.

    6 Auto +res(smash, lethal)
6 Melee attack (air superiority equivalent?)
    14 Superspeed
    20 Knockback/hold protection

    Ice:
Ice tends to be the most controllery, so maybe a melee attack with trivial damage and a sleep component (magnitude sufficient for minions only?) and a ranged, single-target slow/-recharge for the first tier. Superjump for travel, admittedly mostly because it's the only one left! With a trailing, transitory platform or having the character turn into a ball of ice with a trail perhaps, I'm sure it could be made to look convincing. For the final tier perhaps a PBAoE sleep like Ice Melee's final power (so that set could be given something decent in its place!)

    6 Melee sleep
    6 Ranged slow
    14 Superjump
    20 PBAoE sleep

    Dark:
Dark has a penchant for -ToHit, stealth and similar such things, so where the previous four pools acted as alternatives to the existing travel powers I'd see this as an alternative to the stealth pool. Perhaps a ranged -perception and minor -ToHit instead of stealth (dark armor and dark miasma both already have actual stealth powers so I thought something at least vaguely new would be nice) and a melee immobilise power with DoT (essentially a toned down Midnight Grasp without the upfront damage) for the first tier and invisibility for the second tier. I'm a little undecided about the final tier power though - either a PBAoE placate (effectively the same as the stalker placate, except perhaps with a shorter duration, lower magnitude so as not to affect bosses or longer recharge), PBAoE fear (same as the final tier Invoke Panic from the presence pool) or, for something a little different, a melee foe intangible power.

6 Ranged AoE -ToHit, -perception (smoke and flash arrow equivalent)
    6 Melee immobilise
    14 Invisibility
20 Melee foe intangible or PBAoE Placate or fear

So what do you think? Any tweaks or alternative powers that might work better?
  3. Well that's one

I was looking to start in 2 or 3 weeks, giving i:11 a chance to land so everyone can have spiffy new hairstyles and weapons where appropriate

As for a supergroup, after an extended absense (due to lack of interweb access) my myriad alts are all available to fill spaces for extra prestige. That should give us enough to put a starter base together - from there I thought we could alternate base editting permissions (between those that are interested at least) to pretty the place up and such. Is this something people would be interested in or not so much?
  4. Evening all,

I'm looking to put together a regular team for Tuesday or Thursday evenings, probably looking at around a 7pm kickoff.

I was thinking a team with one of each AT, including Peacebringer and Warshade, leaving one spot open for randoms as we go along, just for kicks and grins.

I'd be looking at taking the controller spot myself with an Earth/Storm, but mission-wise I rather fancy running through the Kheldian arcs and Faultline when we get that high (I've not seen the new Faultline yet and thought this would be a good opportunity). Alongside a few newspaper missions etc. we should be pretty well covered for the first 20 levels or so of crime fighting and general thwarting of ne'er-do-wells.

If you're interested, let me know which day you prefer, what AT spot you fancy et al and we'll see what we can put together.

  5. As an all Scrapper team, Spines would be quite interesting to behold - a team of 8 would effectively have an AoE damage output the equivalent of 2 (unslotted) nukes available every 16 seconds at level 2 (Spine Burst). It'd probably work rather nicely for Stalkers too - a coordinated set of Assassin Strikes to the bosses and then Spine Burst quick before the minions gank you!

Sadly Broadsword's AoE potential isn't appreciably greater than Katana's, which would probably work a little better from an endurance point of view. But for pure concept you could always wait for the Shields set to go with your sword of choice
  6. My understanding is that they will not stack from the same caster. Sadly.
  7. Just a reminder for this evening - 7pm meet at Talos train station.

Any confirmations on appearances and disappearances?
  8. I know the feeling - I got around my dodgy (read 'dead') hardware by getting a shiny new laptop which, as it happens, plays CoH better than my late desktop did. Just goes to show how much things move on in 2-3 years.

I hope to see you on Tuesday captain
  9. Good to see so many familiar names are still out and about keeping the city safe from ne'er-do-wells et al

As I say, it'd be a one off for old times sake, and with those MIA there'll certainly be spaces for the likes of the infamous Unthing and the Philosopher - I look forward to seeing you all on the 13th.

There should still be at least a couple of spaces for anyone else who would care to join us - only rule is that you're a defender of course!
  10. Good afternoon folks n folkettes,

After some 8 months or so absense young Synergi, lvl 27 kinetic constituent of the all-defender team, is alive and well.

I would imagine some of our number have moved on to other things, and my return may well not be a permanent one either, but I thought it'd be nice to have a wee reunion with any surviving members, plus perhaps a few fillers from the SNHS or the 1AT in general should any care to join us.

For old times sake I was thinking a Tuesday 7pm-9pm time slot - maybe take on a few police band missions and a safeguard mission being as I haven't seen any of that stuff yet.

So who's with me? I can make this Tuesday coming (6th) but for the sake of giving plenty of time to get folks together et al I think it'd probably be more realistic to aim for the 13th.

PS. I notice there was some kind of bug with global IDs and global friend lists in my absense - my old @Demon ID was unavailable so it's now @Prime.

    ((edit for grammar))

    Spines/DA

Befriend a kineticist for Speed Boost, Transference and Fulcrum Shift and watch the body count soar
  12. Whilst I've never been heavily involved in PvP I have watched and participated in some fun duels, with heroes and villains hanging out and cheering on their 'side', and even had some interesting random encounters, such as a stalker who just couldn't kill me, but I just couldn't get hold of the sod before he disappeared again (if I remember rightly I fell to some lowly spiderlings after his umpteenth assassin strike).

What I dislike is being set upon at random and then 2 or 3 other people noticing the fight and ganging up after an easy kill, or when people empty a full tray of inspirations during a fight they simply refuse to lose (I just don't like the use of inspirations in PvP, as it takes away from the strategic use of your own powers). There's also the inevitable bickering and foul language because one persons idea of fair play differs from anothers, or simply because they're a sore loser.

I just find PvP can bring out the worst in some people.
  13. Defenders and controllers are always good.

Sonic resonance would likely work rather nicely as the shields would give her resistance to compliment her defence, plus you'd get some nice -resistance powers so that your enemies take more damage. Sonic blast offers additional resistance debuffs as well as some nice control options including a disorient and cone sleep and knockback.

    Comic Style Site

Actually has a pretty sweet style to it

Gonna be an absolute sod if you actually have a fair amount of text you want to write on a page given the huge font, but as a nice cheap n cheerful site, the design is keen.
  15. Expeditor

    Team Synergi!

As ever we owned most heartily, and the lowly AV fell in mere seconds. We need a harder difficulty that spawns multiple AVs at the end of these things, and maybe an elite boss or 2 in regular spawns

Just occurred to me that I'll be missing the Hamidon thing next week too. Ah well, we'll have to wait until the team is up that high - he might actually pose a challenge for us
  16. Expeditor

    Team Synergi!

You know me, I'm always there.

In other news, I won't be able to make it next week! Got an odd working arrangement that is taking me away to a faraway, computer-less land for the week.

On the plus side, I should be able to make it to Transference land tonight
  17. I knew some people would remember the protections offered by leadership better than me - lousy memory!

Using Hero Builder as a reference, out of the epics, Force of nature, personal force field and hibernate are the only powers that offer any kind of status protection.

Force of Nature, alongside providing high resistance to all damage except psionic, also provides protection from holds, immobilisation, sleep and disorient (knockback isn't mentioned, but I'd have thought it would be included)

Personal force field protects you from teleport foe in PvP, as well as providing very high defence - if the mezz misses then you're not going to be affected by it of course

Hibernate simply leaves you invulnerable, hence having status protection by default.

The various shields offer no status protection, just the same as the equivalent tank shields. A shame really.
  18. Pool: Leaping
    Combat Jumping - immobilisation protection
Acrobatics - hold and knockback protection

    Pool: Fitness
    Health - sleep resistance

    Pool: Flight
Hover - knockback resistance (kind of - you flip in midair instead of being knocked to the ground, so the downtime from the knockback becomes negligible)

    Pool: Leadership
Assault - Confuse? (I know assault protects against something)
Tactics - +perception (but then you already knew that!)
Vengeance - disorient, immobilise, hold, sleep, confuse, taunt, knockback (you need a team mate to die first tho!)

    Pool: Medicine
    Aid self - disorient protection

Beyond that, your best defence is a good offence, and most blaster primaries and secondaries offer some kind of mezz so you can get them before they get you.
  19. I struggled with the late 30s, but the 40s flew by - AVs and the shard TFs can make the levels fly by, plus the introduction of fun new groups like Malta and Carnival of Shadows helps keep things interesting as well.

Good luck, you've already passed the hardest part

    My Blapper Build

Would just like to offer a handful of suggestions, just because I seem to spend more time on planning heroes than playing them these days

First, I'd suggest leaving Conserve Power until 22 so that you can get Stamina at 20 - by no means a necessary change, but Conserve Power has such a long recharge that Stamina is the more useful power. That said, I certainly wouldn't dump Conserve Power entirely because it is a great power, especially when facing AVs for instance, when you just want to be laying into him with everything you've got

I'd suggest getting Buildup and Aim as early as possible really - they're great powers and they come back quicker than you might think. With both of them you can pretty much just alternate from one fight to the next.

I've never been a big fan of snipes - I certainly haven't missed having one on my ice/energy blaster. As a blapper, you'd likely get more utility out of Stun, which should work nicely for disorienting one minion/lieutenant while you take out his buddies. With Boost Power doubling the duration as well, it can be used to great effect, removing a particularly threatening mob from the fight. Power Push can also be useful for the same reason - I gather you can quite easily keep an enemy permanently on his back, just knock him into a corner and keep him there.

Anyway, below is a build based on my thoughts above - I've omitted the whole colour thing, because it offends my eyes It's very much a single target attack oriented build. I suppose one AoE might be nice - I gather Energy Torrent is generally preferred over Explosive Blast.

Whatever you end up with, good luck and enjoy

EDIT: Given further thought, the medicine pool is well worth considering, certainly later on when you can use Aid Self while in your Personal Force Field. Of course squeezing it in is the hard part!

I confess I only found it by chance - probably the first time I ever looked at the roleplaying section when I found this. It's also the only reason I've been checking back on the roleplay section since I would have thought people looking for stories would be more likely to see it in creative.

You could of course link to the next story in this thread, and link back to this story in the new thread tho.

    Team Synergi!

It occurs to me that there is but 2 levels left before Transference. Plus I'd probably reach that by the end of this TF anyway

With the Moonfire and Citadel TFs, and the respec trial all still to do by lvl 30, I can see us having a hard time getting more than one War Wolf between the 8 of us - it's a shame everyone on the mission can't get one at once

If I recall, the Shivan pets only go up as high as lvl 25, so use them freely through the rest of the TF Plus you can always replace them. Even at lvl 50 I found it semi-useful (but more amusing) to spawn a Shivan in the middle of a big mob, especially one that includes an AV

Anyway, hope to see you all Tuesday for some more Freak Tank bashing Have fun folks

EDIT: I'd forgotten the Hess TF is 25-30 as well. We're certainly well-catered for in the immediate future

    Team Synergi!

I quite like the tribal pattern - one of the costume entries for S4 used it in quite a nice minimalist outfit: white metallic body with a different coloured tribal pattern on each team member. Was it one of the french or german entries? I know it wasn't from Union or Defiant.

The folded gloves (and boots) are classic hero chic of course - I used them on one of my concept heroes who's sitting on Defiant at about lvl 2 I'd probably say the gloves would look better in black like the boots, and then have the chest symbol (letter) in black as well - the deeper blue looks a little out of place being as it isn't used anywhere else on the costume.

I'd had a go at playing about with costumes myself while in a more creative mood than when I tried a couple of weeks back. After getting past my red, white and blue stars and stripes phase, I eventually managed to move along to this.

I confess I overuse the belt there somewhat, and I've been getting a bit carried away with the gold in designs in recent times as well Whilst I'd originally only really thought about the head as being customisable, I suppose the metallic thing could just as well be spandex subject to personal taste, and an optional but team-standard cape perhaps. I quite liked the Yin Yang thing tho - the whole working with and depending on each other.

I don't know, I'd still like to see what everyone can come up with. Plus I rather like my The Flash uh, 'inspired' look for my second costume - I'd maybe have to use my first costume slot for the team costume and recreate my original costume when we get our third slot at 30.

Great picture from the TF btw Chill - and yeah, I'm pretty sure there's 8 freak tanks in the picture. We the bomb
