I just had a thought, with Dark Pit's recharge being 30 seconds, it with 3 disorient duration and 2 accuracy SOs, and AM/Hasten, + Tenebrous Tentacles, wouldn't it be possible to actually have an improvised AoE hold? Cast Dark Pit, followed by tenebrous tentacles, followed by Night fall, rinse and repeat.

Very nice work. The music is synched in time with the video and everything. Really cool.

This is mega-sweet. Best video yet.

What a neat idea for a thread.
I hope you don't mind if I join in.
Character Name: The Disillusionist
Server: Freedom
Archetype: Mutation Scrapper (spines)
Inspiration: I admit it. Crappy 80's music. One of the cd's that hits my rotation most often is The Church's album 'Priest = Aura'. At the very base of it's meaning, 'The Disillusionist' is a song about a man who isn't anything at all like what he pretends to be. I would describe my scrapper as being that sort of person... disillusioned, disenchanted, and dedicated to making everyone believe he's disaffected. Yes, I tend to have a soft spot for the antihero. But beneath it all, my Disillusionist really *is* a hero. He wants to make the world a better place, he just doesn't want to open himself up to all the fear and rejection leveled at a spiny mutant who oozes neurotoxin.
I apologize if I got a bit too wordy. -
Wow. I was riveted to this. I had to run some errands during the afternoon, and as soon as I returned home, I started reading again where I'd left off. What a great origin! And so well written! (And a Nick Cave fan to boot. As soon as I read 'Eliza Daye', I broke into a grin. I've also seen a hero running around the streets of Paragon who calls himself the 'Red Right Hand'.)
Please, keep writing and posting. I'm looking forward to reading more about the Wild Rose! -
Mr E-Man, Shattersky, everybody who has given me help and positive feedback on these binds, Thanks
Knowing that they help others maneuver and have fun in the game is what kept me fixing and adding and coming to this post even after I got a version that satisfied my own needs.

Do these binds have to be put into the code of the game manually?
Thanks.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, the program I wrote creates text files. You bind a key to these text files which the game then reads. It doesn't in anyway 'reprogram' the game.
After creating the binds, however, you do have to tell the game where to find them, so you'll execute one manual bind_load_file command which does just that.
All of the instructions to do this are in the program itself, with more info found in the readme.doc file.
Hope that clears things up

Dr. Obvious -- Mutation Defender (Empathy/Radiation Blast)
Dr. Alvin Obvious was an average, everyday physician until one fateful day when he was involved in a horrible laboratory accident and was exposed to an incredible amount of radiation. After miraculously surviving this freak accident, the doc noticed that he had incredible healing powers as well as the ability to fire horrible, cancer-causing radiation from his fingertips! After realizing what incredible powers he now possessed, Dr. Obvious took a Hippocratic Oath to kick ***, and is more than willing to write a prescription for pain. (He will also gladly write a prescription to any fellow hero for any tights related chafing.)

With a sudden start Lhoss sat up in bed. Looking around with his symbiote altered sight he struggled to understand what had woken him. Sliding out of bed he cautiously made his way to the hall to hunt down the source of his discomfort.

Cool! Thanks for the guide on storm summoning. I started a summoner character recently and am glasd to see the choices I've made so far are pretty spot on with what I wanted. And this also helps me plot out which powers to get and when, and as I thoguht, skip tornado. Very much appreciated, the work in putting this together.

HOVER BASHING. ok this guy bashes hover for powerleveling, when its essential for powerleveling. at level 30 fire/fire blaster hover will allow you to RIP thru brixtown mobs and keep you out of melee range, something combat jump, hasten, ect ect cannot do (unless u use them to run).
[/ QUOTE ]
Right, I'm going to take advice from somebody who thinks that Hover will grant them tons of XP, doesn't have a clue what Hasten does, and doesn't even know how to spell Brickstown correctly. FYI a true XP blaster doesn't have to worry about "...keep you out of melee range" because all the mobs will be dead in seconds. Last I checked at Brickstown, almost every mob uses a ranged attack so they'll be turkey shooting your hovering butt. -

I have noticed that after extensive use of the bindings, they tend to get lost at points where I really would like them not to... It's almost tolerable, but if you're doing a TF and you run into a pack of enemies, no good... I just have to weigh whether or not losing control sometimes is worth the advantage other times...
[/ QUOTE ]
They're getting lost in ways that haven't been discussed already? If so, please give more details.

anyone know the syntax for the arrow keys + the mouse buttons? I've tried UP ARROW,UPARROW,UARROW
[/ QUOTE ]
it's just "up" for the up arrow, and similarly down, right and left for the others. This is at the very bottom of the read me file with all the other possible triggers.

Ah! the ever evolving novel that is this wonderous thread. What's this? A new character has revealed himself to the audience!
Lets start with the "Hover Bashing", I do not believe that Robinson meant "Hover suxxors". Though, for Robinson's power leveling build, hover would be detrimental to the experience rate since if you follow his advice all the enemy mobs will be dead in the first shot (assault rifle) or 2 shots (fire blaster) and as such melee is not an issue. This in turn means hover would have been useless since the first volley of hits is ranged anyway and would have hit a hovering hero or a ground based hero regardless. The second volley isn't important because all the mobs are already dead and you've super speeded away to the next group. However, if you're fighting mobs higher than Robinson suggests hover would be necessary. However, he didn't tell you to go hunt red/purple con mobs now did he?
In addition, he opts for devices which i can tell you from personal experience from following his guide (currently 33) smoke grenade and the defensive powers he suggests have made enemies miss me far more often than without. I have tried (by mistake) and died shortly thereafter, so if you aren't taking devices i can see why hover would be necessary but you didn't follow his guide for the optimal power leveling hero if you neglected devices. I really don't think it needs to be said but taking all the powers in a set is not necessarily a good thing. You can't fire off all your powers at once and by the time you get through half of them you most certainly will have some of them recharged. Personally, i haven't missed not getting buckshot/grenade launcher since getting flame thrower and am quite glad I did not do so.
In closing, I would like to address your closing paragraph. It is a helpful guide, you agree with most of the other postes in that regard. You also stated that Damage and defense are key, Robinsion posts the same theory in his original thread and is evidenced by his advice for 6 slotting damage and picking up cloaking device/combat jumping/hasten/manuvers. To me, that doesn't seem like a contradiction but a validation of Robinsion's guide, though admittedly Robinsion tells us how to do it while you give a vague suggestion.
Finally, is it the best guide? What is the best guide? I'm certainly in favor of Robinson's for the moment. What is the best computer this month? Will it be the best computer next month? What is the best food? Is it your room mates favorite food or does he despise it? Point being this guide is far more than just DATA MINING as you suggest.
Boy that was fun! let the story continue! -
Nice.
Better than the patch notes from beta -

Awesome. I just tried it out and it's perfect =)
It's a nice change to see a developer actually fixing bugs and such...
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't speak too soon... now that I've got the binds working as intended, extensive data mining shows that they are too efficient and can be used to give an unfair advantage over other players. I'm therefore going to Re-Balance them so that ALL archetypes have the proper levels of challenge, tedium, and aggravation while flying/running. To this end, Gnarly's binds will forthwith not work.
This is NOT a nerf, but a necessary fix to an overpowering set of binds. To make the game better for everybody, everybody must suffer. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Just Kidding! No Nerfs from me!

Am I able to use your SoD progam using the Directional Arrow Keys?
My set-up is:
rcontrol - hover/with fly on demand
rshift - ground speed on demand (prestige power dash)
directional arrows - forward/backward (with SoD)/turnright/turnleft
a & d - strafe left/right (with Sod)
numpad0 - down for flight
also I use the tilde key to target nearest enemy
Thanks for the help.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok, I just answered this in detail, but it didn't appear on the boards :/
But yes, it will work. A couple notes, though. The CoH triggers for the direction keys are up down left and right. Simple. But do NOT get these confused with what myh program asks you for... it asks for your Up Key. For you, that is NOT "up", but space (you didn't mention where that was bound, so I'm assuming the default). In this case, you don't need to type it because it's the default for my program too.
Up Key is space
Down Key is numpad0
Forward key is up
Back Key is down
left key is A (default)
right key is D (also default)
fly key is rctrl
run key is rshift
autorun - whatever
follow - NOT tilde which is default, or it'll overwrite you target_enemy_near
Reset and Mode Toggle keys - These are configurable just this latest version. You can put them anywhere, but for your setup, I would NOT use any cord keys with them, either shift or Control, as those would probably interfere with your Run and Fly keys. A previous poster had problems like that.
Your turning keys, the left and right arrows, should be fine, since my binds don't use either the keys or the functions. If they were bound there before, they still will be.
Hope this helps,
