Greetings praeter,
As it is, I did not build my device blaster correctly. you see, my SG has 1 slot and that slot is "accuracy buff".
With this particular setup, I could never take out groups of +2 mobs, and would be capped rather handily by a purple. I learned early on that I didn't want to do that with this power.
But I didn't know that if you put 6 SO debuff slots in it, you were immune to damage. Excuse me for NOT taking full advantage of a bug.
My outrage is based upon my use, or rather, lack of use, of the skill.
Everything else is fine with the offense, and other skills, and yes, I place trip mines... cals, ft a group to dot, then drag them back with me to the mines. That was my tactic that was only effective against Same level mobs.
So, in my opinion, in my version of my character that I'd played, I have no defense (btw, that was with cloak on and combat jumping), especially when getting hit 100% of the time.
That is why I view this as a break.
I guess that Invincibility will be the next one that will be nerfed then. I say this because the very moment I got the skill, with absolutely no enhancments in it I solod 2 red lieutenants without getting a hurt.
The unfortunate precedent set forth by "nerfing" super power is that they're supposed to be super, they are defined as super, they aren't called "mediocre" powers. You don't create "Balanced" Man and the "Average" group.
Super implies "useful", from the get go without enhancement.
A super power should not "have to be slotted" to be super.
Does super speed crawl and require 6-slotted speed SOs to run fast? no, because it is a super power.
By default, you should never be forced to enhance a skill in order for that skill to be effective. If it is ineffective without enhancement... That is what i view as being a broken skill.
of course, this is my opinion -
I wrote this on another thread but I feel it would be well suited for this one as well:
Greetings,
The one thing I could always say about COH was (and I've been playing since beta) they have never NERF-ed skills, they always found ways to improve the game.
Nerfing is Lax and Lazy programming. If you want balance, make powers stronger to rival the ability of the stronger powers, never, under any circumstances make a power weaker, regardless of the excuse.
There is no 1 single power in the game that is so strong as to make a person immune to death (some come close, but you still have limits).
Nerfing is the Number 1 killer of games. The reason is because the programmers become Lazy... Let's reduce this power rather than making these other (20) powers stronger for balancing purposes.
You see the dilema, the problem is, now with the nerf they have actually rendered an entire power set unusable (remove the powers and the rest follow).
If we accept the nerf as good because it balances powers, we now open all of our powers to that. NO, stop the lazy programming, find ways to improve the powers, never reduce them.
You talk about tactics. That is what our powers allow us to create, a working tactic, and if you allow a working tactic to be removed, you have effectively destroyed that character.
If you condone this, then you have signed a death sentence of this game. -

Did they change the location of the Nemesis Seizes Control plaque in the sewers (plaque 3)? I'm standing at the location I've seen posted (ABANDONED SEWERS (465.2, -576.0, -1558.0) and there's nothing here. Anyone else had this problem?
[/ QUOTE ]
You are in the ABANDONED sewers, the one that requires you to be level 36+ to enter, right? -
Did I mention dying or debt? no.
Look, smoke grenade was a power that was relied on, because is "was" a power. don't you get it. it would be like the designers of the game making build-up only work on powers that do "minimal" damage, because you should be able to do extreme damage with your other powers, build up is just to improve the low level powers. What kind of outcry would there be for that. What kind of new tactics would you suggest tot he fire fire blasters? oh, go on you can use your inspirations, provided you don't have something queued or are held because the mobs that used to be dead are now 50% and ticked.
It doesn't seem to set in, this is the first time the developers actually made an entire power set worthless. And there's nothing we can do about it but "make a new character".
What kind of brainchild would say that... make a new character. I've got plenty, and I have some that are level 29+, you don't just "make a new level 29 character", especially since your charater had to have tactics to begin with, tactics meant to provide output for effort. SG didn't mean invulnerable, but it meant a blaster could survive the initial volley, and perhaps an encounter.
"Change your tactics". I love that. Yeah, aparently people didn't realize that stealth does mean that "you do not get hit". The devices blasters have no defenses (except stealth and sg). that IS the tactic, that IS the defense, and now it's gone.
Respec? we should be able to respec and choose a different power set, one with buildup, but then... there will be no devices on the server anymore. -
Please read Kingrane's post. He said everything that needed to be said.
In all honesty, I was loving the release. I had been respecing my characters that required it to be of more use, my defender and scrappers (and a blaster). So I hadn't actually gotten back to my Device blasters (i've a couple of them).
First, Devices do not enhance damage (remember that the next time you do double damage with build up). Devices are for stealth. All of the stealth is gone from devices. Smoke grenade is just one, but also cloaking. Think about the defense you should have, at range, with smoke screen and cloaking. A group of level 27 mobs didn't seem to mind, my level 29 ar/dev blaster was hit 100% of the time from them, sickening, but I'm only glad they did 50% damage before the shaman locked me in a rock cage (twice).
I had 2 sgs on them, cloaking device, and combat jumping and they still never missed me.
It sounds like complaining and it is, not only is my charater absolutely worthless to play solo, I can still out agro a tank. That makes my character useless in a group as well.
I had heard they were nerfing... that isn't a nerf, that is a tactic employed by developers to get people to stop playing certain skills. period.
It was done in other games in the name of balance, but basically boiled down to "we can drive people away from this skill if we do this, it is much easier than make than balancing many other skills and we have to get a release out fast".
This isn't 2 cents worth of ranting, I wish I could relate how sick I feel now.
THis is Knee-jerk programming at its worse. Yes, make things more difficult, make powers stronger to compensate, but you should never ever nerf a skill just because it's the easy way to get a release done faster. -

Confirmed: "Demon Slayer" badge is for defeating Baphomet
[/ QUOTE ]
So.. is Baphomet an AV or monster? And where precisely is the beasty? -
Manticore TF badge is confirmed for Conspiracy Theorist. Another guy and I both got the PP kill badge this evening, I got the accolade and he didn't. The only badges I had that he didn't have were the TF badges. And I doubt any of the task forces other than Manticore's would have anything to do with getting this accolade

People have the wrong idea...
Look, this "game" isn't really a game at all. That's not its purpose, not really.
A game is primarily what? In loose terms, an enjoyable activity that pits one player in competition with another player, or against some obstacle.
Sure, CoH does that, but that's not why we "play".
How much time have you spent designing Characters? Maybe not even thinking up backstories, but just on costume, on concept?
Sometimes I feel like I have more "fun" designing the Characters than I actually do playing the Characters.
And that's the truth of it.
The REAL revolutionary aspect of CoH isn't in its world, which is pretty mundane when you think of it. Aside from the glowie here and there, which involves virtually nil skill, you just go around and beat stuff up. No throwing cars, no picking up lamposts no doing really anything with the world itself. How many times have you slid through a car? In fact, I can walk on molten lava and not feel the burn at all. I can be an ordinary hero and plummet from a 30 story building and walk away.
What about the player on player interaction....
Well, you really don't exactly interact with other players... rely on them maybe, perhaps even talk... but interact, real interaction.... no.
There must be good and bad for there to be real interaction, and the only bad I've seen is when a player angers a healer and is left to die for their error.
So really, the interaction is nil. Relaince, yes, real interaction? No.
No, the real reason we play is because the "game" grants us the ability to make almost any kind of Character and have a running fantasy that we are them.
Other games don't do this. Sure inEQ you can be an elf or a dwarf... what are elves or dwarves? tall skinny guys with pointy ears?
Got 'em.
What are dwarves, short stocky guys with long beards? Got 'em.
I can be a black knight with a massive axe.
I can be a white knight with a magical broadsword..
or a stealthy assassin with super fast reflexes and a highly deadly katana.
This is why you hear all kinds of complaints over silly things like "Why does my magical broadsword have to look like everyone elses magical broadsword"?
When a player isn't complaining about how their toon sucks, they're complaining about lack of customization...
And you think "Well that's silly, as far as customization goes, you can't do much better than CoH"...
and that's true, I won't dispute it...but the huge pull FOR CoH is the customization....
people get thrilled about quarterstaff combat.
Why, why is that? So you're thwacking them with a stick instead of an axe... big deal?
But in their head... they think it's spectacular.
So yes, they should be working to make the game more enjoyable... more balanced so people stop complainging about sucking...but they need to focus more on customization... that's where the real strength of CoH lies. -
I didn't get Negotiator, though its entirely possible I simply never got that mission when I was a noob. Other than that, I picked up 2 - 10 of the off-mission badges

The in-game chat accepts Unicode characters as well as ansi characters. There isn't a quick and fast way to choose Unicode chars through the in-game UI, but you can copy/paste them to your chat window. This covers both Positron's unusual broadcast, Cyrillic alphabet letters, and other fun things like musical notes and math symbols.

It must be, as chances of Issue #2 going up yet this week seem to be kind of small.
Er, I mean...
I'm not sure what all this is about Statesman, but you can be sure that if its a threat to Paragon City, I'll be more than happy to pound it into the dirt!

Still looking for the Crey Watcher badge, with little success. I suspected that it was somewhere near the abandoned Crey office towers in Tangle Town, but I've been all over that place and found nothing. Anybody else have better luck?

(( My way of looking for a serious role-playing SG on the Virtue server, new character, but an experienced player capable of moving along on my own. So no baby sitting required. Send a tell or e-mail in game if you're interested in me. Elony, right now, is a level 4 scrapper, with martial arts and regeneration, of technology origins. By the way, this is kind of long, so yeah. I tried to keep it in as much of a nut shell as I could, but this is about as short of a nutshell as I could manage. Disappointing, I really wanted it to be better. Originally the character was from an fairly large, 150 paged story of mine. Just a little side project I wasn't very proud of, but liked her character. I've changed a few things about her, as in the actual story, she loses it and systematically brings the species who killed her brother to extinction. That doesnt really fit into the whole hero style, now does it?))
Elony, born to a war loving race of peoples, capable of controlling immense amounts of life energy around them as weapons. Though as powerful as they were, their galactic conquest was halted by their lack of technology. Though they all lived for hundreds, sometimes thousands of years, interplanetary travel took far too long, and most would die of old age before ever reaching their objective. Then Elony was born. Different then the rest of her race, she was incapable of controlling the life energy around her, she was weak at body, but powerful at mind. At the age of 95, still a very young child to her people, she developed engines capable of traveling across the galaxy in a matter of weeks. Along with countless advancements in medical technology. Everything she invented ushered her people into a new era of technology, always for the better.
Despite this, her lack of strength rendered her an outcast to her people. Though she gave them many great and powerful new technologies, she was shunned, ignored and hated. Even her parents abandoned her. In an act to better fit in with her people, she created her last invention that became both her curse and her gift. It was a suit of armor, greatly resilient to harm, and capable of enhancing her strength, speed and agility to unfathomable proportions. It was a bio-mechanical armor that was controlled by an even more sophisticated network of nano-bots inside of her body. Living armor, with a mind all of its own. Growing and evolving constantly. Elony's people, however, were a proud race with many ideals. To them, Elony's armor was blasphemy, punishable by death. She fled the planet, taking with her the only working spaceship capable of traveling the galaxy, along with all her inventions.
Not long after she left her planet, Elony, having no time to pack food or supplies for her trip, lay half dead on the floor of the small space craft. An odd species on a routine patrol of the sector picked up on her ships signature and abducted it with Elony inside. The species was also a war loving, power hungry race. They became very interested in the girl after a bio-matrix scan of her brain. They took her as a slave, to develop newer and better weapons for them. However, they were more interested in the suit she wore. By this time, the armor was permanently attached to her body, to remove it would kill both her and the armor, causing them to lose all the secrets it had. They kept her as a slave for 25 years, when she wouldn't work on building a clone of her armor suited for their DNA structure, they tortured her into working on new weapons. Eventually, the species kidnapped a much more valuable prize
A young man, of unknown origins, who despite his young age had managed to become a galaxy wide threat to many planets, like Elony's people, he was able to control the life energy around him, only on a much greater scale rendering him capable of great feats of strength and power. Elony's captors decided they wanted to extract his DNA and study means of splicing it with their own. Many of their top scientists died trying to get a sample from him, though incapable of escape, he was still capable of fight. So they sent Elony to get it from him, knowing her armor should be able to protect her form his attacks. They took the restrains from her armor and allowed her to use it again. Seeing the captive man, going through the same pain she had gone through for so long, she freed him. Together they managed to steal a space ship and escape the planet.
The years passed, and the two traveled from planet to planet, always being chased. They became great friends, even began considering them selves to be siblings. Loving and protecting each other as such. As it is with all good things, it came to an end. An ambush was set for them, though as powerful as the two were together, it was not enough. Elony, attempting to save her brother who had been pinned by a giant mech to the ground, managed to lift the giant machine off him, but the strain was too much for her armor to protect her from, tearing her arms off. Her armor would regrow, but her arms wouldnt. In the end, her brother, Laidin, laid an inch from death, and deemed useless. Elony had been captured again. Over the next ten years in captivity, she was allowed to develop new robotic arms for her self, in return that she would build a replica of her armor for them. Laidin, however, was able to heal self, and tracked down his sister again. Sneaking into the facility, he freed her again.
But their escape was halted when their ship was destroyed, leaving only the one person escape pod. Laidin, using all his strength, forced the protesting Elony into the escape pod and programmed it on a one way trip to a little unknown planet in an uncharted sector. Laidin then turned to face the oncoming horde, and the unbeatable odds. The last Elony saw of her brother was the fury of blue explosive light as he fought only to give the tiny escape pod enough time to escape the planetary defense network.
A week later, the escape pod, completely out of fuel, and having not been built with manual controls, crashed hard on the surface of Earth. Although the armor protected her from the crash, it suffered a great injury. Nearly killing the living armor. Two years have passed since her crash, her armor still regenerating its self, leaving her weak, but growing stronger and stronger by the day. Though as weak as her armor is now, it's still enough power to put the species of the uncharted planet to shame. She spends her time fighting for people, saving people from harm. What little she gains from this, she uses to enhance her sub-net space scanner, in the ongoing search for the fate of her brother. She was amazed to find so many people on the planet who hold great power, so she decided to find a select few to team up with, in hopes they can help her.
((Having read that, Elony's basic character and appearance is thus. She's a damaged person, with emotions as scared as her badly brutalized body. Ashamed of the ugliness under her armor, the fused flesh and metal, the bolts, the canyon like scars and the years of suffering that have taken its toll on her form. Leaving her very timid and shy. But as damaged as she is, she's still a kind spirit, more then willing to accept and relate to new friends. Looking simply for companionship in the strange new world she's been sent too.)) -
I have a question about the fan fiction and I'm entirely too lazy to read this entire thread to see if it's been asked already.
Is there somewhere we can post fan fiction instead of emailing it? Say we want to do some work without the limitations where it can be read by people no matter whether it's chosen for the comic or not. I suck enough to not get mine accepted and posted but would still like to share something. Somehow I don't think this forum would suffice since the stories would sort of interrupt the discussions going on, yes? -
Option 3: You must visit the plaques in a certain order (such as the order the events occurred)

There is a reset key that should fix it if the binds get messed up. CTRL-R by default, or hit CTRL-M to Exit SoD and then again to restart. Both of those keys are configurable though.
Why did it get messed up? I'm not sure in your particular case, but 2 known causes are zoning when moving (like a tunnel) or hitting enter in the chat window when you're still holding down a key. There could be other reasons, but the basic cause is that either the key press or release is not geting to SoD. So, it thinks you have the key pressed when you don't, and vice versa.
As for the crashes, it happens to some people, and we haven't been able to figure out why. It's something about how the game executes (or fails to execute) bind commands. The commands are correct, but fairly complex, and they seem to choke some machines.
Lastly, I'm here to say goodbye. I'm quitting the game, and don't want to continue paying just so I can come here and answer questions. In fact, I stopped playing a month ago, but kept my account to make sure my urge to play didn't come back. So, I hope you all enjoy the binds. If they don't work for you, you might find some answers in this post, or in the readme.doc, as people keep running into the same problems, but the worst of them are unsolveable (at least by us players). So thanks for the support along the way, and to my co-binders who made this a fun experience
Cheers!

I installed SoD, the Sprint seemed to work great, but the Hover/Fly button wouldn't work. I set run & fly to both 'E', but that key doesn't seem to do anything. Since azhurdan's bindings worked beautifully, I didn't think anything about it and reset my bindings to the default through the options menu. Then I loaded up azhurdan's binds, and now I crash almost immediately after I start flying, 2 minutes into the game, every single time.
BTW, as soon as I loaded the "reset.txt" file from SoD for the first time, CoH crashed and I had to reboot.
PLEASE HELP!!
EDIT: actually, when azhurdan's binds are loaded, the game crashes a couple seconds after moving at all, flying or not. -
http://www.battle.net/forums/wow/thr...amp;p=1#post74
Yes this is a link to another game discussion board, and while these ideas in that thread don't directly apply to CoH it may give ideas as well as giving some people a much clearer understanding of RGM (Roleplay Game Mechanics) and RPing in general. -
1: Unyeilding stance, practiced brawler, obsidian sheild, and integration. Theres one anti stun power for every powerset for scrappers.
2:Manuevers and assault and tactics do more when a defender is using them, and its percentile based. 5% bonus to relevent stat for most people, but its 12% when a defender is the one casting it, and 10% or a controller (or some similar numbers). But as you go up levels, average damage doesn't raise awefully much, and your overall damage maybe be going up from a 1 point increase to a 1.5 point increase and your not seeing it in the rounded-off numbers.
Invincability should add more than tactics, especially when you have 4+ guys near you.
Leadership is ment for defenders, and when a defender is using it the effect is nearly double compaired to a tank using it.
