Some of you are looking at it as just a free month, well a month of play time is $15 then the other $35 went to development cost of the game. Essentially we paid the developement cost of a game they eventually gave away for free. Think about how that looks for a second? Yeah I know the game depreciated in value but that is besides the point, those who paid more than $15 for the other game did not just pay for a free month.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, I say the real test is this: if, when you bought the game, there was a big red sticker on it that said "Warning: this game will be given away for free in November of 2007!" would you have still plunked down your $35?
I would have, because I wanted to play it then, when I bought it. It's the same reason I paid $50 for The Orange Box, instead of waiting 2 or 3 years to pick it up in the bargain bin; there are some games that I don't want to wait for.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am not sure what I would have done in that situation, but either way it is the principle of the whole thing, some folks bought the game for base access, and extra character slots. Seriously this would be like them giving away all the collectors edition and good vs evil stuff that people paid for. It is the same thing no matter how you try to down play this. I am not asking for money at all on this, just some form of compensation either free time to play or an accolade power or a new prestige power that sets us apart from the people who did not buy both games. The debt wipe, free prestige for SG are not going to do much for me as I hardly ever die with my toons and the SGs I am in are already well off right now. -

Of course, Im not calling YOU a chump. Im saying I feel like a chump. None of that is an attack on you, personally or collectively. I find it interesting that you took it that way.
I believe my point stands. These bonuses are carefully targeted at three sets of players that NCSoft does not want to leave CoX just because they purchased it. This is a brilliant move, and I would normally applaud it. Except for this curious blind spot on a (for now) ignored fourth set of players.
I would hate for that blind spot to propagate from a couple of bonuses in a purchase announcement to overall direction of the game. If they announce that they are getting rid of the debt system entirely, for example, Ill know it has. And THEN would be the time to consider jumping ship.
[/ QUOTE ]
First off, Ex and LH have hinted that there are more "presents" to come; so it might be that there's something coming that you'll love.
Secondly, to everyone who feels "cheated" for paying for both halves, ask yourself this: if you had known, at the time you bought both halves, that you could have gotten half for free if you just waited until today, would you still have bought it? I can honestly say that I would; I've enjoyed playing both for the last 2 years, and I wouldn't have wanted to wait that long to experience the other half of the game.

Free Stuff you say, and I use this announcemnt as the guage. (S) Heroes and Villains available. (R) I already have that, on my personal 2 accounts and the 2 I bought for friends. (S) Debt Amnesty. (R) What is that, something that I could do myself by playing anyways which I will do anyways. (S) 20K more to prestige for SG. (R) This might be a bonus but its not an individual one. No help if your not in an SG or are not concerned with it.
And once again crybabies, gift horses, whiners and will pay me back for my losses. Do you purposfully go out of your way to insult and demean people for stating thier own opinions? Ok peachy, you love this. Fine. Enjoy. Was there any insults thrown your way?
I don't want money. Obviously if I bought as many accounts and pay monthly I don't need it. Yes they could have made these changes, not said thank you and moved on. But they did, and they obviously wanted to give back. I appreciate it, I honestly do. But the way they chose to give back does nothing for me. It gives back most to those people who gave least to this game, not the people who did. All I ask is that the people who did buy both games, have 12 slots per server on their account keep them and those that didn't buy both games stick with their 8. If in the event they get 12 slots then the people who did buy both games get maybe 2 additional. The first doesn't do anything in addition for me, it just doesn't reward those who spent least. The second gives me something tangible. Agree or disagree, just don't insult me.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now see i can see that ones that didn't buy both only getting 8 spots.Instead of the 12.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or give the people who paid for both games 16 slots instead. I think that would be the best way to go with this. Seriously part of why some folks bought both games was to get the extra slots and base additions so I think it is fair to add the extra slots to those who bought both games. If they dont give us extra slots then they need to give us a prestige power or accolade that sets us apart from the other customers to really let us know the devs care. Hell I would settle for them them making all vet reward attacks on those accounts have Two SOs worth of accuracy built in. -

But if I ever once - ONCE - smell "raid"; I quit. End of discussion.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is exactly what I'd like to see more of. We just need more stuff to do. The real prob imho with raids in other games has been the loot tables and not everyone getting something. CoX doesn't have that prob. Everyone that participates in a raid gets the payoff. So I say bring more raids please.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why? What % of the population is doing Hami raids? What about the LRSF and STF? I'm betting the % is even smaller than even I expect.
Why waste time on events that the majority don't find fun?
[/ QUOTE ]
How about making them fun?
Improving the Raid experience is only one of many things they could add to the game to increase it's overall appeal. I see no reason to torch the "Raids" idea to the ground because they aren't as popular as fairy wings, renewable temp powers or yet another alt.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well what killed hami is the fact that the time investment is no where near worth the reward. It shouldnt take 5 hours to get something that we can easily get something of similar effect thru farming a short TF. If the reward was choosable then it would be a start in making it worth it. -

Too funny...
Why exactly does anyone owe you for your own decision making process?
So if you buy something in a store and it goes on sale two years later...They owe you a refund?
By that logic you were owed money long before now as CoH and Cov dropped in price from when they were first launched..
I guess if you knew the price would go down you wouldnt have spent your hard earned money on it...
Ok if you want compensation so badly give up any of the slots you used in upgrading any prestige or base building youve done since you purchased it...because you dont get it both ways..
[/ QUOTE ]
They warned us about the cost of the server transfer because of the possibility of server-less environment, this is no different than that. Since we got no warning something like this would happen we deserve some form of compensation for buying both games. All I am asking for is 1 free month. I dont think it is that hard to ask.
Also if lighthouse is reading this, what about folks who can find just CoH or CoV after say issue 11, if they apply the code do they still get both games then? -

All players with City of Heroes retail* accounts will now have access to City of Villains, and all City of Villains retail* accounts will now have access to City of Heroes. Players that didn't previously have access to "the other side" will find that they do now. Just log in to check it out!
[/ QUOTE ]
So I just bought both versions of the game...does this mean that I wasted my money and if I had waited a week, I could have paid half as much?
Fabulous!
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. I am really pissed about this, there needs to be some form of compensation for those who did buy both games. Like maybe a free month or2 or something because this is totally unfair to those who spent their hard earned money on both games.
[/ QUOTE ]
How long ago did you do it?
I bought COH a few years ago. COV when it came out. I don't expect anything. I wouldn't *argue* if they gave me something, but IMHO the only people who should get some sort of compensation are those who bought seperately, picking up the "other half" within, oh, the last month.
Hell, I bought the COH DVD Edition and COV CE. Bought the COV CE *twice,* in fact. I'm not pissed at all. I got to play *both,* with 12 slots per server, since COV's release. I think that's been pretty cool - and now there won't be any artificial barriers to things like SG entry for *anyone.*
[/ QUOTE ]
I bought CoH at launch, CoV CE at launch, so someone owes me some money on this. -

Does this have a significant impact for us users? Will we still keep the same dev team?
-
2 minor corrections, infrigidate is does not reduce all damage by 30%, only fire damage. Heat-loss is not autohit. You have what is called a caster buff and the buffs that come off the mobs. It is just like fulcrum shift. You always will get the caster buff but the buffs from the mobs and the debuffs do not always hit.
-
The video looks good but what I want to know is what hardware do they use on the machines that are used to created these videos? The animations are always fluid and clear, and not all jerky like on live servers. I figure if I build my next rig closer to those specs I might have a better feel for the game.
-
I disagree with this, you actually work off debt fighting stuff closer to your level than you would exemplared. Mostly due to you have more powers to defeat the mobs faster. If I go down to lvl 5 from say like lvl 40 and only have like 2 attacks weak attacks that will be hella slower compared to having my full attack chain and stamina killing level 40s, and you are working on progress towards the next level as just opposed to only working off debt.
-
Might want to add that there are buffs you can get if you are in a Sg/Vg base. Now that we have ways of getting that kind of salvage easier, you can just put a bid on the market for it. The buffs maybe short but can easily be renewed between missions.
-
Question for you on the salvage part, those numbers just cant be right. What kind of salvage were you getting because the bulk of the mobs on this thing drop tech salvage and that goes for next to nothing on both sides of the game so how did you get 6 million just from that?

He was then banned. /jranger is now used in memory of his permeating dissent.

Ok let me get this straight, some guy named jranger responded to a post he disagreed with. And he got banned for this? I am still not following you. I disagree with folks all the time but I have never gotten the ban stick. Am I long overdue to be banned? -

One minor issue though. I wonder if Flashback will kill altoholism, which is a great strength of CoX..

Hardly anyone who has been here since the begining plays this game for the content, we play to try new powersets or powerset combinations we have yet to try out. -
Lighthouse can you confirm something for me? I need to know if we will get an ingame email upgrade to allow us to send items to one another. I did not see a mention of that on the page, so I am wondering if it did or did not make the cut this time.
-
Um...Ok...whatever happened to the rule where you cant be elected president more than twice? I am pretty sure they made this a rule at some point in time. Secondly I cant believe that is Manticore or Recluese. Something is up with this.

It mentions the Lost. The Lost only exist because they are created by Rikti stranded on Primal Earth after the first war.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Rikti didn't create homeless people. The mutated Lost are obviously Rikti-influenced, but the rag-tag sewer dwellers aren't mutated yet.
[/ QUOTE ]
they didn't create homeless people but they are responsible for the Lost. They aren't just mutating themselves down there.
[/ QUOTE ]
Um...they sorta of indirectly created homeless people in paragon city. All the destruction that happened during the war obviously destroyed homes and businesses so therefore it would create homeless people in that process. It is not like they public assistance programs like we have in real life to handle big disasters like this. -

I think it's very possible that a portal that connects two dimensions together could connect one at 2007 to the other at 2107 or beyond.
[/ QUOTE ]
Time could be moving relatively slower or faster on any given parallel Earth as compared to Earth Prime ('our' Paragon City Earth)
[/ QUOTE ]
A couple of things:
1) We keep talking about the "Rikti homeworld" as a parallel Earth. Why can't it be the same Earth, just different times. We're still talking seriously about time-travel, right? Maybe the Rikti believe that something done in our time will permanently unmake theirs. That would mean they are the ones messing with what has been.
2) Assuming my above statements are correct, Rikti AT's anyone?
[/ QUOTE ]
We figure it's a parallel world because of all the other parallel worlds that we've seen: Axis Amerika, Hydra Homeworld, the Praetorian worlds, etc.
There won't be Rikti ATs before Villains get their EATs.
[/ QUOTE ]
What if Rikti AT's ARE EAT's?
[/ QUOTE ]
Possible. Very possible.
But not probable.
Given what has been stated about the difficulty in making an Epic AT (powers, animations, storylines, contacts, etc), it is much more likely that Warshades and Peacebringers will be ported over as Nicti and Hatebringers since all that would have to be done is probably change a few powers, put in the contacts and write the storylines. As compared to building an entire AT from scratch.
[/ QUOTE ]
It is not like they built the Hero EATs from scratch either. EATs should have been all totally new and not a bunch of recopied recolored powers from other sets. They dont offer anything else to the team that the other 5 Hero ATs dont already do. -

Paragonwiki spoilerz about the mutations and the Rikti War.
[/ QUOTE ]
'What drove (spoilery things to happen) is unknown.'
Hmmmm....
[/ QUOTE ]
Gonna talk spoilery things.
Turn back now.
You've been warned.
Last chance.
I always thought they did it themselves, like the Lost. Which, the Lost are just proto-Rikti anyway. The same thing that drives the Lost to mutate themselves could've been what led a small group of Rikti to start the process on their world which mutated into Outbreak and then changed everyone, slowly, over a couple hundred years. They've managed to speed up the process though with regards to Honoree.
[/ QUOTE ]
I thought another group came to mutate the rikti because at that current time they were not a challenge to them with their technology and physiology so they did it to give them a chance to fight them later.
Warning Slight thread jack here:
Also I wanted to ask for the people who have done the faultline arcs and fought the AV Kurse, what was the thing that was calling him to the ruins in faultline? I think I missed this part somewhere in the arc. -
[ QUOTE ]
OK, here's an insane thought.
**spoilarz**
The Outbreak Virus contains primitive 'Rikti genes', right?
But the newspaper article doesn't mention the Rikti ONCE. It's as if the Rikti didn't even exist in that world.
So maybe, just maybe... it was the Outbreak virus, on this parallel world, that ultimately led to the mutation of all of humanity into the Rikti! And that's where the Rikti came from!
Ouroboros isn't just a symbol of infinity, it's a symbol of the eternal loop, of something creating itself.
So what if the newspaper report is actually from the distant past of the Rikti dimension? And it was not just the Rikti that created Outbreak, but Outbreak that created the Rikti?
[/ QUOTE ]
I dont think it happened this way, the Outbreak happened after the first Rikti war so there is really no need to even mention the war because it was after the fact, if anything the only thing we would have heard is about the clean up efforts post Rikti War I. -
Maybe this means that if we get to redo history villains will get real Patron Power Pools and Stalkers could get some lovin?

YES! They're not 6 feet under rotting in a Dark Astoria grave. They are dead in that they can never regain their humanity again and most people here are assuming the cemetary route. They are however still there like maniacal 28 Days Later zombies.

More like resident evil zombies. Which is a good coincidence because the film opens this weekend. Could this be what starts off issue 11, a Crey altered T-Virus outbreak?
