If you're merit farming on a single toon, you're doing something wrong. Play your alts more. Contrary to what the popular opinion around here is, you don't need IOs to be good. I use commons on my characters until I can find the time to IO them as I want (note I said want not need). Trying to use "these toons don't have IOs so I can't play them!" is a pretty weak excuse. I'd like to be able to slot IOs easier as well... but when everyone is super, no one is super. People that complained about the market and reward drops are part of what brought the merit system upon us, and I'm sure even you'll admit its impact has been less than positive especially redside.
[/ QUOTE ] Many of the powersets in this game are flawed, and just arent playable "To Me". IOs making playing many of those sets possible. Just because you can get by on uncommons and commons doesnt mean you should. If I am even going to bother with IOs then I am going to always have the best of the best or not even do it. There is no middle ground on this. Also how do you figure I am doing it wrong? It makes more sense to put all your merits on a few toons so you can get the end results faster. Lvl 50s can pretty much do all the content in the game provided they have certain badges. So why restrict myself to just so little content. That pretty boring on an already boring system. -
[ QUOTE ]
If everything was made more available people would quickly grow bored with their characters and move on. IOs are supposed to bring a depth to your character that the normal game doesn't - I know many, many people who shelved their 50s but dug them out again when IOs came out. It's not supposed to be easy and cheap to IO a character with all the best sets. Rare stuff is rare for a reason. If you want to get your character enhanced on the cheap, there are SOs. They've been around since the beginning and they're still perfectly viable.
[/ QUOTE ] Speak for yourself on this. I know I would like to be able to IO alot easier. It wouldnt make me bored with them either. It would mean I can play my toons the way I used to prior to inventions. Currently I have put at least 50+ alts on hold because of IOs. Because the way merits work I am stuck farming on a single toon per server just to IO out the rest of the Alts. If the system was changed then each alt could get their stuff faster and I could play them or they could earn their own IOs instead of having me to have to transfer them to the alt or leave them in the base storage. -
Just alternate between Breakin Knives and Van Guns Redemption arcs. Do both for 21 merits total. Its alot more time effective in some ways than joining a team redside for sfs. Aside from that the only other suggestion is to do the speed silver mantis sf.
-
One thing that I would like to see is for the devs to finally add the Patron Arcs to the Pilars of Ice and Flame. Content on villainside is scarce as it is. I know there is the potential for respecs to be granted but they could make it be like a 1 time thing for the respec. Or have it set to not grant the respec if you do it thru flashback. I just need something else. Its boring as hell most of the time.
Also for heroside what ever happen to them adding the Calvin Scott TF back into the game? I remember they said they were going to do this at one point. -

Um, I did say MOST people, not all people.
[/ QUOTE ]Even still I think more people use this feature than you think. -
[ QUOTE ]
I think this is pointless. Most people have a style of play that requires the powers and enh that they have chosen and through gameplay and time have respec'ed a few times to get the build just right. A second build is useless due to the fact they got their toon right with the first build. Now if you could have the second build able to choose different powersets but keep it in the archetype you chose. So you can't be a blaster and a controller. I think this would be more useful. But people spend a few billion inf on their original build and took months to get what they need. To have to do this again with another build with only maybe 1 power change...it's all a waste of time.
[/ QUOTE ]This is why you are wrong. Some players have a need for a high end content build and an exemplar friendly build. Currently I am working on this with my stalker. He will have a build with purples for the exemplar friendly build and the high end content buildd he will be speced to be at the soft cap on defense where it is needed most. For my support characters they have a build with all the support powers and few attacks but also have a build for solo with no ally powers and all the attacks. So saying its useless is just flatout wrong. You just arent thinking about it in the right way. -

Well, it is really nice layout. Too bad it doesn't recognize that I have a video card and hence cant update drivers for it.Manually or with Windows Update. Device manager doesn't even show any video in there.
The error message that I get everytime is something like "Could not find a device to match these drivers" or some such.
What I've tried: Win7 64 and 32 bit (couple times), flashed bio's, updated chipset drivers, newest nvidia drivers, older nvidia drivers, changed compatibility mode where appropriate, removed vid card and reset cmos.
Posting this from my main comp, so don't have a cohhelper log right now. But basic spec's:
AMD Athalon 3500+
1gig ram
XFX 6800XT
ASUS Barebone V2 AE-1
I had seen a few pages back that someone had it running on slightly less specs. Guess mine is just gimp or something....
Anyway, if someone has a nifty little trick for this, that would be cool. But if not, I'll just send in my report and reload XP....
[/ QUOTE ]Its possible they drop support for your card. I know that happened to me when vista first came out. I had to find haxed drivers for my video card and motherboard. They worked for a while then I started getting heat problems on th card so I upgraded.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why in the world would they drop support for a card that exceeds the requirements for running the OS? I had no problems finding drivers for my 6600GT.
[/ QUOTE ]They (Nvidia) done it with the geforce 5 series cards when they are perfectly capable of running aero and vista quite nicely. My guess is that they want folks to spend more cash to upgrade again. -
We are going to look back on this just like how it was when they said we were getting the buff pets. Everyone thought they were overpowered and the game was going to break, hella doom and all that good stuff. We all know how the buff pets turned out. When the next uber reward comes out after this the same folks are going to [censored] and moan as usual and would clearly forget about the 60 month reward. Personally for me right now the only thing that could top this would be to allow veterans to skip the first power in the secondary if they wanted.

You said it pefectly right here.

It's not silly at all, it opens up a lot of options for vets who have played for YEARS
[/ QUOTE ]
That's all that really needs to be said. After all, that is the point is it not?
[/ QUOTE ]
Way to twist my words.
No, that isn't the point. Vet rewards are supposed to be neat little perks. This is a BIG deal. Not little. More than a perk.
[/ QUOTE ]Its not a big deal like yall are making this out to be. You get 1 extra power, big whoop. If you just used the temps guess how many extra powers you get? 2, thats right 2. So if it wasnt game breaking with being about to get 2 free powers what makes you think its game breaking to get 1 free power. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
To add to this, what makes you think that these powers would be slottable? Is the Vet-Nem staff slottable? How about Sands of Mu?
E_Ryu has the right direction. For the best benefit, one would take the requisite for the foundation.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think they are talking about giving out special vet versions of said powers ... I would shut up on the issue immediately if that were the case (I may anyways, since i don't feel especially strongly on the issue). So far, indications suggest they are allowing early/accelerated access to the real deal pool powers.
Also, how does taking the prereqs matter for "maximum effect" or "setting a foundation". Not being sarcastic, I just don't know to what that refers.
[/ QUOTE ]For my stalker build to soft cap without tough and weave I had to get 4 travel powers sets. So I took the prerequisets so I could slot the universal sets. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
You still dont get it, being able to buy the powers via real money or inf in game means you dont have to pick a power period. That in itself is more game changing than this change we have coming.
[/ QUOTE ]
True, but it's something that has never been intended for serial purchase (for what that's worth ... probably not much). Regardless, temp travel powers do not allow for slotting (esp. the oh so sexy universal travel sets) nor can they achieve the speed of pool powers ... they are just neutered versions of the real thing. Also, not to be forgotten, there exists no alternative to the pool superspeed or teleport powers.
[/ QUOTE ]You only have a point with Super Speed or Teleport but the other powers are not that fast to begin with so its not that big of a difference. Now for the travel powersets most people who are slotting those are going to want to take the prerequisets anyways so they can have the maximum effect. -

Massive, epic FAIL. Something so profoundly, massively balance altering as being able to skip a travel prereq being doled out as a veteran reward?
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you trolling? Anyone can skip power pre-reqs and pick up Flight (Raptor Pack) at 6 and Super Jump (Zero G) at 10 without being a vet. CoV character have multiple ways to get flight early and replenish it without using any power picks. This is a minor perk--if it is "massively balance altering" then the balance got altered years ago when CoV was released.
The biggest factor here is that Acrobatics no longer requires pre-reqs but given the changes to mezs and the increase in anti-KB options (inventions) even that is not a huge deal.
[/ QUOTE ]
Temp powers do not compare to the real thing in any number of ways. Also, it's not about getting it earlier. I think there would be 1/10th the fuss if it was the ability to get a travel power early. The problem comes into play because a player can get a travel power without the prereq. This affects how people will make their characters all of the way up to level 50.

Will all the travel pools be this way? Like can I take Fly, Super Speed, Super Jump, Teleport all on one toon and not take the previous power or is this a one time thing for one pool?
[/ QUOTE ]not sure, but the general wording "this badge unlocks the following pools" vurses"this badge unlocks one of the following pools" seems to indicate that you can jump into each of the pools. Yeah, im kind of surprised here, this is pretty balance altering, rian just got a very kind slot free-up, so cant wait for june to get mine.
[/ QUOTE ]I dont see how its unbalancing considering we can buy fly on villainside at lvl 1 or buy fly with real money at lvl 1 both sides. I figured this would come but not as a vet reward or this soon. -

I was set up installing Win7 on a seperate HD. I installed it while in Vista, maybe I'll try booting from the DVD, and installing that way, see if that makes a difference.
I dunno what else to say. It appeared to install nicely, up till it had to re-boot, came up to the "starting windows" screen, and stayed there for 10 minutes. I hit the reset button on my puter, tried 3 more times (1 time in safe mode, 1 time in debug mode). No errors were visible to me. It simply didn't get past the "starting windows" screen.
[/ QUOTE ]This happened a couple of times on a pc at work I tested this on. It is just really slow when it first starts windows, you might need to give it more time. -
It would help to give us the error you got so we know why it didnt take.

There are two issues i have with the merit system. The first one is the outrageous cost of the Blessing of the Zephyr Knockback Protection recipe when compared to the Karma and Steadfast Protection variants. I'd like to know what justifies the difference.
[/ QUOTE ]
Blessing of the Zephyr knock back is more valuable because:
1. It is part of a Universal Travel set and therefore available to more powersets.
2. It is a rare set after all. Karma and Steadfast are uncommons and available from uncommon drops in the right level range and therefore easily farmable through Ouro or by turning off XP. Blesing is a pool C.
Hope that helps.
Master Gabriel
[/ QUOTE ]Even still I dont think it justfies the cost merit wise for this enhancement. I could see if it worked the same as the stealth enhancements where they work regardless of the level so long as you have the power but with these if you go more than 3 levels it cuts off. That in itself greatly reduces overall value to a lvl 50 who the merit system is mainly targeted for. -

Okay,
So I dual Booted win7 last night, and had no issues at all. Game loaded beutifully (after I updated my nvidia drives of course). This thing runs fast. I have never used a 64 bit OS before, so can anyone tell me: with the 64 bit OS is there always a 32 and 64 bit browser? I was a little bummed that there was, at least it appeared that way, flash support for the 64 bit IE..
edit: also, I am running it on an E6600 with 2GB of ram and an 8800 gts 640mb...
no noticeable lag at all...
Windows 7 has my money (as long as it only improves) when it goes to shelves.
I did notice something though... the .iso was named as ultimate...does that mean they are messing with us (stupid microsoft advertising campaign to get people to like vista) or are there going to be flavors like vista has?
[/ QUOTE ]Just like vista with all the editions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Last I read, they had pared it down to 3 editions only. Premium, Business, and Ultimate. No more Basic or Enterprise. That may not be valid now though. They were supposed to have announced the SKUs at CES, but I haven't had time to go check it.
[/ QUOTE ]They will have to have an enterprise version because it uses a totally different activation scheme than the other editions. As for as Basic goes they should never have made that in the first place as that is what got them in trouble to begin with. -

The table, suggested, would offer for each type of mob the percent chance to get any colored recipe:
............None.....White..Yellow..Orange..Purple
AV...........0........ 40......30.........20.........10
GM.........20........ 32......24.........16...........8
EB..........40........ 24......18.........12.......... 6
Boss.......60........ 16......12...........8.......... 4
LT..........80...........8........6...........4... ....... 2
Minion....90...........4........3...........2..... ..... 1
[/ QUOTE ]
Do you have the mathematics of the spawn code that determines how many minion/lt/boss are in each mob based on the size of the team?
I keep trying to find that and it never seems to be documented anywhere.
I ask because whatever table you make, it needs to balance the same odds regardless of team size (ie: normalized to the spawn distribution formula).
[/ QUOTE ]
As far as I can tell, all of you out there please feel free to educate me on this one, I believe that the chances of getting a recipe is calcualted individually for each player in the team, thus potentially all 8 members could get a purple drop from the very same mob. This is opposed to, the recipe is determined from the mob, and then randomly awarded to a member of the team.
As I said, I am not sure of the process the game is using. But my impression is the one all gets a chance up front.
With regards to the mix of bosses, lts, etc. I understand is based on both the level of complexity of the mission primarely and the number of players.
When solo, you have to go the third level of difficulty to see bosses, and fifth level to see EBs. The second and fourth is just an increase in numbers of spawns. Do note when you go from second to third level of difficulty, the level of monsters go up, but the numbers regress to same as you had in the first level. Also third and fifth levels of difficulties increases the level of mobs by 1 incrementally.
With numbers of players, I am not precisely certain; and varies from mission to mission. with 6 players an EB will become an Archvillain, but will remainan EB at 5. Maybe someone can publish the breakpoints for us.
But as per my suggestion, I did not take into account spawn rate of what levels, for they are not really of great consequence. All I was seeking a fixed percent chance to get a recipe regardles of what and how you fought. I was seeking the freedom to street hunt, do threads, TFs, and Trials and not be penalized by artificial limitations of what I could get.
In the words of Wallace in Braveheart.... FREEDOM!

Same problem here. And I agree, I was so eager to see if this would fix the crash nvlddmka error and I can't get it to install.
Question
1. Does it matter what folder your extracting the zip into? (perhaps the pw won't work if the directory isn't exact)
2. Does it matter what program your using to unzip the file? I'm using both windows built in program (which obviously should work) and WinRaR. Not luck with either. WinZip?
I'm tempted to shoot window's an email but I just know it will take them a week to respond.

CoX runs perfectly for me. Not a single issue. W7-64 with a 9600GT on the Windows Update drivers.
Issues I do have:
CSS FPS issues - but this seems to have worked itself out.
No X-Fi drivers for it (no surprise considering how long it took to get Vista drivers), but there is an unofficial PAX version that runs almost perfectly on W7 without some of the advanced features.
This is possibly the easiest, most stable OS beta i have ever used from MS.
As an aside, why is it always necessary to have these idiotic OS arguments in any thread like this? I'm sure the thread title says "Windows 7 and City of Heroes.".
[/ QUOTE ]Because you will always have haters who will always come into a thread and totally bash something with almost no real justification. It just ends up being a battle of why its good, why you should upgrade to it (via clean install), how well its worked out for you, then someone comes along and tries to make the OS out to be the worst thing ever.
