What do you want to do with your Dom?

Mind control is one of those sets that virtually every power benefits from the effects of Domination, making perma Dom extremely potent for this primary. Mind has LOTS of AoE control. The one thing that mind lacks is immobilization powers. It has no single target or AoE immobilize.

You are pairing an AoE heavy primary with a single target focused secondary (and you have skipped the one and only AoE damage power that your secondary offers).

Energy assault is rife with Knockback effects. Having no AoE immobilize means that you will be spraying mobs around that will get stuck where they land (though mobs affected by Mass Confusion will get back up and return to attacking their friends).

With Perma Dom your powers recharge fast. With as many as you have selected some will never see use because a better power will be recharged before you can use the marginal ones.

For an IO build the secret is focusing on one or 2 particular types of set bonus (like recharge and defense) and pursing them so that you get lots of small bonuses that add up to a large total. The most potent set bonuses are usually in the 5th and 6th position of the set so the powers that you want to use a lot and the IO sets that give you the best bonuses you want to slot heavily and the powers that don't give those bonuses, or that you will use sparingly, or that don't need much slotting to perform well will get no extra slots or maybe one additional slot. A lot of players call this build style "min/maxing".

So the first question is, what is your play style?

The second question is what thing(s) do you want the toon to be able to do well and how do you want to prioritize those goals (if you have multiple goals)

The 3rd question is what powers are negotiable and what powers do you want to make sure with no question that you include in your final build?

The 4th question is what is your budget for your character? PvP IOs are expensive, purples are expensive, and several potent procs are expensive.
    1. I play a lot of TFs so I want to be able to hod mobs then destroy them and I like being strong against AVs.

    2. My first goal is to be able to hold, then damage, then have the defense to survive if those don't go as planned.

    3. I'm really fond of all the mind powers, and this is my first time with energy so I don't really have preferences. If it fits in with my playstyle and makes my toon better I'd sacrifice whatever powers are necessary.

    4. I've bought really expensive builds before, it's worth it for me. I would prefer to try and keep it on the less expensive side, but I'll pay whatever for a strong toon.
  3. So I really want to make a mind/energy dominator and I love all the powers I chose but I've never slotted myself before. So what should I change to make it better? I would change powers if it was necessary but I'd rather not. And I would love to have perma dom. This is my first attempt at making a build so go easy

Are you choosing Mind/Psi for thematic reasons? There are better secondary options if theme is not a concern.

Is theme the reason for your choice of Epic powers? I don't understand skipping a single target, melee range, Knock Back causing attack, and then picking up an Epic pool that is mass Knock Back.

Is theme the reason that you want all the powers from Mind? Levitate isn't particularly useful for a Dominator since your secondary power set is all attacks. Telekinesis isn't really needed either since you have a single target hold and an Area of Effect hold and you appear to be avoiding Knock effects.
    Mostly TFs.

For Epic, yes, that is theme. If it isn't absolutely terrible I'd prefer not to change it.

Sort of, the only other option I considered was mind/energy. Would that be better?

Not really, I just have found them all useful in the past.

That sounds awesome, I'll definitely do that.

I'll probably take hasten if it really is that important and doing the 123% global recharge sacrifices other slotting. So to make room for hasten would you remove Psionic Lance or Invisibility? The only reason I'm reluctant to remove invisibility is because I like to do TF's and I have recall friend too. If I remove invisibility I would probably get read of stealth and recall friend too...huh so confusing lol.

Okay I made this really basic outline of the powers I want. But I have no idea how many slots should go where and what level I should take each power or what enhancements give me the best totals/set bonuses (which I love )

    Mind/Psi Build

This is my first mind/psi and I have never made a build before. Mids really confuses me I have tried to make a build but I am so terrible at it. Would anyone be willing to post a really good permadom mind/psi build they know? I'm not asking anyone to make one for me but if you would that would be so incredible. I appreciate any and all responses to this.

If you are taking the time to make a build (which I extremely appreciate) I can give some outlines:
    • I want all the mind powers
    • Preferable remove TK thrust and mental blast from psi
    • Flight for travel power; friend teleport, stealth, and invisibility as a side (unless hasten is ABSOLUTELY necessary for permadom)
    • Primal forces mastery

And if the build isn't permadom but it has other outstanding stats to make up for it that's okay too.

    Thanks!

Please try and make the builds as up-to-date as possible because I would have no idea how to edit in all the new stuff like inherit fitness, travel powers, etc.

    Mind/FF Build

Thank you all, this has actually been really helpful. I'll try and make a build (not very good with Mids) and hopefully you could critique it?

    Mind/Fire Build

Can someone please make a really good build for a Mind/Fire dominator? I'm terrible at it.. NOT, a PvP build. Something for TFs.

    Thanks! (:

    Mind/FF Build

I recently made a Mind/FF Troller (for the second time) and wanted this one to turn out better than the last. So if I would mostly be using this character for TFs, what would be a really good build? (preferably with fly in it)

    Thanks! (:
  19. So I get that currently a few of the heroes/villains are played by people who work for NCsoft, but I think it would be really cool to allow selected players to play as the signature heroes and villiains. It would be a very difficult for a player to be able to do this, however. And whenever that character was logged in, they should be able to play their signature hero as they would any of there old characters. Run around, battle, earn badges, etc. There would obviously be many restrictions to these characters however, because they would be representing NCsoft. And they would still have to participate in the TFs they are associated with. And whenever these players are logged off, they character would stand around as they usually would.

I realize this is a large work in progress, but I believe it could be a large succsess. Please leave comments with any ideas or suggestions, and hopefully we can get this thing started!

    Thank you, EmmaGrace.
