Mind/Psi Build

This is my first mind/psi and I have never made a build before. Mids really confuses me I have tried to make a build but I am so terrible at it. Would anyone be willing to post a really good permadom mind/psi build they know? I'm not asking anyone to make one for me but if you would that would be so incredible. I appreciate any and all responses to this.

If you are taking the time to make a build (which I extremely appreciate) I can give some outlines:

  • I want all the mind powers
  • Preferable remove TK thrust and mental blast from psi
  • Flight for travel power; friend teleport, stealth, and invisibility as a side (unless hasten is ABSOLUTELY necessary for permadom)
  • Primal forces mastery

And if the build isn't permadom but it has other outstanding stats to make up for it that's okay too.

Thanks!

Please try and make the builds as up-to-date as possible because I would have no idea how to edit in all the new stuff like inherit fitness, travel powers, etc.

Okay I made this really basic outline of the powers I want. But I have no idea how many slots should go where and what level I should take each power or what enhancements give me the best totals/set bonuses (which I love )

Some suggestions:

You'll want Hasten. Even (especially) if you aren't a perma-dom Hasten will go a long way to bringing Domination back faster. Without Hasten, you need to build for 123% global recharge, which is possible but daunting. You'll generally end up sacrificing a lot of slotting option simply to avoid one power.

There are many options for full invisibility that exclude taking it from the power pool. Generally, 55 feet of stealth is need to be fully invisible to most mobs. You can get 35 feet from stealth, 35 feet from a stealth IO, and 35 feet from Super Speed. Pick and choose to your liking.

Psionic Lance, and most snipes, for Dominators are often of limited use. In most fights, you'll want to begin with a mez for any trouble mobs rather than picking them off. However, it can be useful as a set mule for a 7.5% bonus and can be canceled before launching the attack, in order to build dom without notifying the enemy. That eats a lot of endurance, however.

I'll probably take hasten if it really is that important and doing the 123% global recharge sacrifices other slotting. So to make room for hasten would you remove Psionic Lance or Invisibility? The only reason I'm reluctant to remove invisibility is because I like to do TF's and I have recall friend too. If I remove invisibility I would probably get read of stealth and recall friend too...huh so confusing lol.

You can drop Invisibility easily, but retain Stealth and Recall Friend. Just get a Celerity: +Stealth IO and slot it in Sprint. This with Stealth will give you as much stealth as Invisibility without the annoying Affect Only Self status. They are a bit expensive, but running some tip mishes or the SSAs can get you the two A-merits you need for it easily.

May I ask what your goal with this toon is or what use(s) you intend to put it to?

Are you choosing Mind/Psi for thematic reasons? There are better secondary options if theme is not a concern.

Is theme the reason for your choice of Epic powers? I don't understand skipping a single target, melee range, Knock Back causing attack, and then picking up an Epic pool that is mass Knock Back.

Is theme the reason that you want all the powers from Mind? Levitate isn't particularly useful for a Dominator since your secondary power set is all attacks. Telekinesis isn't really needed either since you have a single target hold and an Area of Effect hold and you appear to be avoiding Knock effects.

That sounds awesome, I'll definitely do that.

Mostly TFs.

For Epic, yes, that is theme. If it isn't absolutely terrible I'd prefer not to change it.

Sort of, the only other option I considered was mind/energy. Would that be better?

Not really, I just have found them all useful in the past.

The character is built to be exemplar friendly, as I love going back to do any SF/TF in the game without losing much of my character's abilities. Fly has a stealth io and combines with stealth for full invisibility. /psi lacks burst damage, but is instead well rounded. Drain psyche is not just a great survival/recovery tool, it destroys av regen, and becomes a more potent debuff when slotted for heals.

The above set doesn't NEED hasten, but it helps with recharge when exemplared and when your recharge is debuffed. And it makes your controls faster, which is always good.

Slotting considerations: I use purple sets that are very expensive. Using alignment merits you can gain the more expensive sets, but not purples directly. before you get purples, I would exchange decimation for apocolypse, malaise for coercive, sandman for fortunata hypnosis, and another basilisk's gaze for unbreakable constraint.

Mind/Energy/Primal is a thing of beauty and I'd happily post a build for you. A Power boosted Perma Dom is a real contender on TFs the only caveat is that on a TF Knock back can often be annoying to other players especially if it is uncontrolled or if you tend to run Pick up Groups (you would be the Chaos Queen of Knock Back with a Mind/Energy/Primal). If it's a regular team or a bunch of folks from your Super Group or Coalition then it should be fine once you get used to them and they to you

I would highly suggest taking 'confuse.' It is your only fast recharging non-aggro power, one of your longest-lasting controls, and has distant reach. It is one of the go-to opening powers for mind/ as it can subvert any problem targets before you fight.

Total domination could really use more basilisk gaze in it. The excess accuracy also does far less good than better hold duration/recharge.

I'm not certain why you have chosen so many kb protections. If you had domination up more often, KB is far less a concern, KB protection comes 'free,' built into domination. A far more common approach is to slot luck of the gambler: +global recharge speed into defense set powers. This speeds the recharge of all controls, giving more safety, and enemies less damage and fewer chances to knock you around. The luck of the gambler +global recharge speed io's are also one of the few enhancers that can speed up domination on their own.

I would highly suggest slotting drain psyche for healing. It with stamina with domination give three endurance recovery powers as-is. Slotting for healing in it both helps the debuff and helps you heal faster between controls.

Soul drain is your build-up, and pairs nicely with drain psyche. Taking it earlier means you can boost all your damage sooner. Telekinesis is situational, but I've found its uses late-game. I do like it for its cool factor and it is very nice on indoor maps...this said, I would put other tools ahead in priority.

I would spare power slots for other abilities rather than slotting range in recall friend. At 10000 feet range without slotting, there are few places you could go in-game that could ever be out of reach of recall friend. Dominators are notoriously slot-starved, with so many powers that want slots or sets.

If you are taking levitate and using it in your powers, consider getting a tad more damage in, perhaps with recharge as well.

Dominate works better with more recharge, and a hold enhancer would help more than a hold proc, in my humble opinion, or more damage/recharge if you plan on attacking with dominate.
