    Freedom? Hardly

    Slightly more on topic...

    1) I do believe we are past the point of such feedback having any impact.

    2) I am fine with what they are planning and I will wait and see and pay and play... I'm not putting energy into figuring out what may or may not happen. Not that there's anything wrong with anyone doing, that if they so like, but I'm simply not doing it over this stuff.

    3) At first, I was a little wary of this new business model. Mainly due to being somewhat of a completionist combined with me being someone who is not planning to spend more money on this game than I have been over the past few years. That was a bad combination (looking ahead), so I dropped my concerns about it. Some friends and some posters voiced some thoughts that helped me see it a little more positively and I'm not worried about it at all now.

    4) I am a bit upset about the awesome Tier 9 rewards and the fact that I'll be over a year away from them, while a new player would be there within the time I have already paid and played this game. The conversion of the old vet system to the new rewards system was set up to prevent longtime vets from having an enormous overabundance of tokens to not be able to spend... The flip side of that is that the mid-tier of current vet status are set back (only compared to the time it would take under the new system... they are indeed coming out ahead if compared to the old system). This is not a huge complaint... it is just a personal bit of disappointment... what can ya do... **** happens!

    5) I can agree with some people's concerns with returning/premium players logging in and having no enhancements, having to respec, rebuild, make a purchase just to get started.
I am in-no-way saying that I think it is wrong to deny them of the IO enhancements... My only feedback is that it might be clever to have some sort of process to allow such users a more seamless reintroduction into the game.
How to do that, though... I really don't know. Perhaps the best idea is a free 10 days of VIP status upon "reactivation". Give them a taste of the old game... And provide a pop-up that the IOs' bonuses will shut off without that Tier Reward accomplished or paid for.
Short of that... just supplying some sort of automatic clean-slate alternate build for that character... so, at least, all they'd need to do is fill up the enhancement slots... but that doesn't really prevent the stalling problem.
I'd just like to see them be able to jump in and get their feet wet in the great fun that this game offers in its action.

Regardless... none of that is a deal-breaker, in my eyes.
I just would agree that making some moves to counter a slow, respec-filled, "What?? They're holding my IOs as hostage for TWO stinkin' DOLLARS?? CHEAPSKATES!!!" initial experience/reaction.

As far as... "If that's the returning player's attitude and stance... so be it and good riddance..." response to any of that... Hey, I'm not going to shed any tears nor argue about it either. I just figure, if it is at all possible to prevent and/or cushion that particular scenario... it could be worth doing so.

    Freedom? Hardly

So, this is the thread we discuss this stuff in now?

Okay, after pouring through all of the posts, empirical data, opinions, feedback, theories, debates, other options...

I have one important bit of personal feedback to offer:

(I'm not really harping on you Lost Ninja, haha... I can understand how this happens, but I just find it so odd to think of the Lord Of The Rings saga as films first, haha... it makes my heart shed tears!)

Gotta love those bursts of inspiration that come pretty much complete like that. I have (roughly) 82 thousand projects that I slowly whittle away at and a handful that came prefab'd and pretty much finished like a packaged delivery from my subconscious.
Maybe i have to treat my subconscious better... I never do call any more...

Also... Re:Imitation... still one of my most favorite backgrounds/characters!

Hehe, yeah, I always think that as well!
As we tout on about our own methods...

Speaking of which, there's really no set sequence/method that always takes place for me.
However, most often it is very much like Commander mentions for myself.

Still, sometimes the concept comes first, sometimes the look comes first, sometimes the powersets come first...
I think only once has the name come first.
The name is almost always last for me... and often times a struggle. Not usually a struggle to find a name that is available, but more-so a struggle for me to come up with the right name before I even check if it is available.
The only time the name came first was Captain Excitement. I had written some words to a song and that was the name of this fictional comicbook character that the main character of the song was obsessed with.
I checked if it was available... couldn't believe that it was... and went with it and formed a complete backstory, personna and such.

One thing of note is that a lot of my character concepts come to me far away from City Of Heroes or game mechanics or lore or costume creators.
I generally come up with ideas and then see how I can create them within all of the game's workings.

Again though... there are definitely no absolutes for me... Any rule I may seem to follow about this process has been broken at least once.

I don't agree that there is zero threat nor zero reason...
However, I do agree that some players are truly only participating in that form of PvP, as you put it.
Even some that believe they may be serving the company... are really just a bit taken with this aspect of "power".
It happens... It's pretty common, really.
I have never been involved with any name genericizing or anything... so, there's no inherent bitterness with this subject for me.

There are a lot of cases of names and such that are fine, but if they're reported... BZZZZT... tough luck for that player.
Too many common words have been used as names over the course of comicbook history.

    Anyway... I'm just rambling.

And I'm sure the parents of the children whose lives you callously ignored will appreciate your attitude. Hell the kid was only 3 years old. Their car is probably older than that. How attached could they be? And it's not like they can't have more kids. They could even adopt, right? Besides a child's coffin is much cheaper than a full size adult coffin or college tuition for that matter so your death will be saving them a lot of money, mom and dad will be grateful.
Their remains are also great for compost material for your home garden!

Being friend and/or family with me already has its hazards. I'm not worried about this aspect.
Hiding myself as some young guy with a super secret special suit could actually put all of that at greater risk.

And let the legal issues and officials come at me if it comes to that.
I'd prefer to fight the real crime like that anyway!
  8. Am I the only one considering making a character based around this (or a full super team of random strangers who all received such a package?)?

I believe that I would take a while to look into it, test it out, see if anyone was coming for it, check it out slowly and as carefully as I could and, if all goes well thus far, train myself and get accustomed to it.

Then, I would shoot not so much for crime fighting as just heading out to serve, protect and help people. Hazardous and dangerous situations where people need to be brought to safety and the like... which, absolutely could include fighting crime, of course... but, more often may be other types of situations. Certainly big fires and the like.

Contrary to my main CoH character... I may actually go for a public identity. The more public I go, the more public any nefarious plots against me and/or my suit may become. Plus, perhaps I could make some funds through that public persona and be less tempted to grab cash with these abilities.

    I might head to Washington D.C. ...
  9. While I don't feel the same way about the original topic as the O.P. (yes, even the modified stance and request/suggestion), I do really like this idea:

Giving us the option to at least theorize and thematically say we gave our own personal "flavor" to a mission and got some recognition for it would be nice though.
    ...
That'd be some nice flavour and I think would make for some good fun to go with the alignments. It is always more fun to have mixed groups and the clashes they cause, than to run around with only people of the same mind!
    (All thematically, role-played, game dialog/action flavour-wise).
I'm not saying there IS any problem, but it's not like things couldn't be better!
    I like that.

    4) Certain NPCs will be neutral (yellow reticle) to certain alignments (ex: Vahzilok won't automatically attack Villains, Goldbrickers won't automatically attack Rogues, and so on...)
    5) Incredibly Potent NPCs will 'remove' you from certain locals, say if you're a Villain entering Atlas City Hall (think Drones zapping Baddies that get too close to the Market)
    6) All Alignments get the same kind of 'Merit' for their Tip Missions

Alignment powers are fine as is.

Probably many other interesting things that could work: such as Alignment 'Events', something like Arachnos doing a 'Sweep' in a RI zone to take out dissidents (ie. Heroes/Vigilantes). These could be similiar to Rikti/Zombie raids (spawning, periodic), but they only go after certain Alignments.

The currents systems works, but wow it could have been so much better.
I also like this stuff and agree that it could be cooler if everyone could go everywhere.
I understand why the system is the way it is and I am okay with it and all that.
However, I'm not convinced that something like the above wouldn't be more fun.
Although, some of examples of NPCs attacking or not attacking may be a bit off... the general idea is one I'd get behind, for sure.
I'd love to see the yellow target NPC stuff we have in Praetoria and I do believe it could be fit into Paragon and the Isles.

I think villain NPCs could still attack villain players and that Longbow shouldn't outright attack vigilantes... But, other than that, I like those ideas.

    I will say this Soul_System...
If you make the choice for thematic reasons and stick with it for thematic reasons (great reasons, in my opinion, so don't read this the wrong way!), then you shouldn't really take issue with the thematic consequences.
Also... maybe you shouldn't be doing so much stuff that goes against your thematic decisions. I only say that to possibly give you a happier outlook on it. Not to try and show you up or prove you wrong.
Really, if you don't like the result of being a vigilante (you don't seem to find the zone access to be a benefit and you seem to be running hero tips regularly), you should probably keep the hero alignment. It's only there to make you happier about things, so pick that end of it and work around the unimportant symbol next to your health bar.

    Thems some of my thoughts!

Not that I wouldn't want to see a Sonic one as well.

A pass of additional Judgment Powers would be great.

Hey... who else here likes chocolate?

Oh, right... I don't care about post history, reputations (hey, what does everyone think of me, huh? Huh?) or any of that... But GG's replies to people's disappointment with the Haunted House thing's team requirement are less than friendly, intentional or not.

Hey, you don't like something? Well, let me tell you how it's part of the big plan... and that plan is to add more and more of what you don't like and more and more is going to be that way because that is the plan and the plan is the plan and it is what you don't like so, don't be disappointed because it is the plan and the plan is planned and there you go.

    Thanks.

By the way... who here doesn't like vanilla?
Who here hates it when people use "vanilla" as a synonym of "plain".
    Vanilla is delicious!

    Also...

Anyone here enjoy City Of Heroes?
    I do too!

    Also, also, as well...

I really want jetpack costume parts... Short of jetpack costume parts... I do want to see sleek tech metal back packs... and even non-sleek junky ones too...

And a big red ball and a mountable unicorn and onion rings!
I like onion rings as well. Never had chocolate covered onion rings though... Have you?

Also, as well, also, and... Thanks again, again, again, again, again, again Von Krieger!!
  24. Haha...
I just had to come back and read this again...
And I ended up reading it aloud to my lovely wife!

She was very appreciative and laughed throughout.

    I mean...
We read aloud the holy scriptures and feel enlightened and fulfilled.

  25. You know... I really hope that we can have that pack without the...

    JUST KIDDING!

    Yay!
More... we want to see MORE!

It looks like DarkRanger may finally have a back detail of some sort! I'm glad I have one character that never had a cape or wings or anything back there. He's definitely one that's been waiting for such options!
Probably not that backpack... Although, definitely for extended hikes!
